Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 10
Upon getting absolutely drenched, the young man coughed and sputtered as he had accidentally inhaled some of the water in drawing breath to engage in more banter. “Blegh- ew!” In all honesty, it might have been for the best that Thomas was silenced, for he did have a habit of being a bit annoying after all. Still, after wiping himself off a bit, his cheery smile returned, and the Ravenclaw bounced a bit from foot to foot in anticipation of the next spell headed his way, even if his wand hand struggled a bit with the grip now that he was wet. “Yeah, cast some fire my way! Dry me off, I’m getting cold,” he complained.

Thomas and Pierre were facing a similar problem: dwindling energy as they took more and more hits. Uninterested in sitting around and leaving an opening for an opponent to knock them out, they both took measures to keep themselves in the game, only in different ways.
Thomas went for healing. It was simple, it got some energy back into his system and eased the bruises already forming. Evelynn very nearly immediately undid his efforts, but Thomas just barely managed to twist out of the way. His hair and clothes would rustle as the spell passed, that was how close it was.
Pierre went a little fancier, throwing up a shield. It didn't fix his pain, but it protected him from further damage and carried the possibility of the spell rebounding and dealing some damage in the meantime. Or, it should have. But Aida's spell was fast and accurate and struck the transparent shield just right to tear through it. Despite the fact he couldn't have been expecting that--the shield was supposed to keep him safe--Pierre almost managed to dodge. Almost.
But almost didn't count for much when you were up against the sheer force of a Flipendo and already on your last legs. Pierre fell, knocked out, and the moderator quickly called for a pause. He was carried off the stage, and that meant Evelynn was alone. Two on ones didn't tend to go well for the lone person, but if she could stay quick on her feet, avoid being hit, and take out Thomas, perhaps she still stood a chance.

Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 10

Recovering from the wave of claustrophobia had its advantage this round: flooding Aida with adrenaline and the focused need to end this match as quickly as possible. The wix wanted to be outside again, watching Scheherazade flap around. It wouldn’t be so bad to bring the cat, Figaro, too, and maybe that funny elf boy, to go walk amongst the trees... However, Aida was certain Figgy would accompany Piérre towards that horrid hospital wing full of conniving house elves, and Aida wouldn’t want Piérre to have to go into that alone. Wasn’t the hospital wing the worst part of being a duelist for everybody?
Interest still piqued by what kind of creature Evelynn was, Aida decided to make it so that they could focus observing her by knocking Piérre out of the duel. The knockback jinx sailed reliably out of Aida’s beloved wand and sliced right through the jester’s protego – it was not for nothing that Aida spent most of their life chained to the piste by obsessive and potentially insane quantities of practice.
“Elfy, do you want to go play after this?” Aida asked Piérre as he slid into unconsciousness. Not knowing if the words word reach him in time before he passed out, the white wix figured it was worth a try. Scheherazade, sensing her human was feeling better, returned to trying to clasp Figaro’s tail in her beak.

Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 10
@Evelynn Decipio & @Aida Mórsgor-Ama EllwoodHouse Colours: Ravenclaw
"To know your Enemy, you must become your Enemy."~ Sun TzuThe longer the poor Jester continued to dance within the confines of their dueling platform, the more he realized that his movements were becoming more and more erratic, inefficient, and shaking. Panic was rising as he felt his body giving out more and more, as if his heart was going to beat out of his chest. As the duel continued, as he watched the boy that he and Evelynn had worked so hard to take out as their primary goal heal himself and completely negate every foothold that they had obtained over them so far… the Britalian couldn’t help but feel a blister of righteous rage bubble to the surface; the knowledge that as much as they had tried their best to make the best of the fight, to put out as much damage as they could while trying to lessen as much of their own… there was an obvious, evident, and painfully clear rift between the arcane prowess of the teams. There had never been a fair chance of winning because…
They had no way to close the gap. No way to even out the fight and play the field on fair terms. Despite their impressive juggling, the early advantage they had had at the start because of clever misdirections and improvisation of cheeky jab damage, they were hemorrhaging too much too quickly and had no way to match the other team’s damage and healing outputs…
Simply put; they had been disadvantaged from the start… and had essentially been sent into a massacre. And the price of this was the swiftly dashed dreams of a young Greenhorn duelist and the hope that perhaps this could be a symbol of a new start with his old Quidditch captain.
…
Was he… was he really cut out for this sport to begin with?
If all duelists were this level… perhaps the poor boy really was far weaker than he had already known himself to be. Maybe… Dueling wasn’t really for him…
And perhaps this lack of bravado at the last moment, the knot of shame in the back of his throat as he threw up a desperate silvery shield with a shaking cry of; “PROTEGO!” was where Piérre’s fatal error had lain. Perhaps the spell cast too late, perhaps Aida’s spell at the perfect angle, but the boy watched with numb yet measured shock as wind continued to buffet him back and forth as the silver shield– his only sanctuary and advantage over these terrible casters– shattered his feeble energy and clipped him right at his left shoulder.
Were it not for the damnable winds… the boy would have had a chance.
Yet, as it were, the force of the spell caused the mere 51kg boy to not only lose his footing but to go so far as to somersault head over teakettle as his yew and snallygaster wand was flung from his fingers into the crowd. Not that Piérre could feel his fingers anymore as the back of his skull cracked against the floor of the dueling room and light exploded behind his eyes as the world went dark for a moment. A deep exhale left him as his back hit the ground hard enough to knock the living breath out of him. Weakly trying to draw his knees up so that he could flip himself onto his stomach and thereby regain his footing, a loud ringing in both ears rumbled with the sound of a voice… two voices… both of them crossing and melting into one another so that they formed an incoherent mess of pitch that created an almost grounding tritone when combined with the high, earsplitting E9 (10,760htz to be precise) that rang like an incessant shriek through it all.
The boy felt hands on him (likely taking him by his shoulders or under his arms as any good medic should move a patient) so that whoever was moving him would be able to manipulate his lightweight body either for a single person to carry or to be supported between two people. A streak of lightning raced from his awkwardly twisted shoulder down to the tips of his left hand and back to the source like some sort of cruel relay race, which evoked a yelp as Piérre’s subconscious pain response confirmed that while he was close to senselessness, he could still register bodily injury just fine. As such… when they tried to pick him up at first, he flailed about like a petulant child as he tried to force his eyes open as much as possible and muster as much strength into his voice as possible as his face twisted into a disgusted grimace.
“Leggovme.” He complained, trying to wave them off with both hands (of which only his right one moved, his left arm continued to remain twisted and… slightly longer than the other as his shoulder appeared much smaller in diameter than it should be). “Gedoffame… Mmstllinnit…” Came the incessant, stubborn claim. Something that could be said of the boy… he didn’t stay down unless put down… even if it would have been in his better interest to stay down.
But perhaps it wasn’t for the sake of stubbornness that he wanted to stay in the dueling stage’s vicinity, and rather for the fear of where it was likely that he was going if he didn’t stick around to the end. Fading in and out of awareness now, Piérre’s legs felt like jelly as he was hoisted and maneuvered to the side with firm hands. He felt a small rivulet of blood where the back of his head had unceremoniously hit the ground.
Not again. Not again…
Notagainnotagainnotagain…
“IDONWANNAGO!” He wailed, likely deliriously as rubbery ankles rolled in attempts to grind heels into the ground. His only functioning arm would savagely attempt to scratch hard and dig deeply into whatever exposed skin his handlers dared to leave in his reach. A duelist though he was… Piérre wasn’t afraid to draw blood with what few natural weapons he had at his disposal. “DONMAKEME! DONNNNNMAKEME!”
A splash of red spattering to the ground, seeping between the first person view of fingers; a person hidden underneath one of the Hospital Wing’s cots. Thick black smoke, a flashbang of light, and then darkness.
‘He’s still there… He’s still there!’
But these troubling thoughts would quickly peter off just as quickly as his maddened cries as the pain in his brain finally managed to override his will to stay standing. Almost simultaneously he both tapped out and was (likely) subdued by the handlers so he could be better assessed by more knowledgeable healing sages. In such a troubled state of being, the conscious mind of Piérre Marchonné finally spiraled inwards to torment its owner there, leaving the external shell quiet and deceptively peaceful as the duel continued without his usually calming presence.Hasta la Vista, Plebs!

Tom was elated at the state of things; watching Aida’s spell pierce clean through the opponent’s shield and knock him out filled him with a sense of true satisfaction. As the duel came to a brief halt due to safety concerns, the boy pumped his fist in triumph. “WOOOOOOOO! One down, one to go!” He naturally had to give credit where credit was due—Thomas had merely spent the better part of the duel healing himself and dancing around spells. “Absolutely phenomenal work,” he earnestly praised his dueling partner.

The tides had turned in an instant. She thought they'd had more time. The Ravenclaw team had been fairly consistently attempting to take Piérre out first, and with his cast of the shield charm, they would be able to collect themselves and regroup for another forward assault. That was not to be the case. Piérre hit the ground. And suddenly Evelynn was alone against her opponents. Fingers tightened about her wand, jaw setting. There was no possible way she would come out of this victorious. Not when both of them had experience in duelling and the odds were stacked against her. But she wasn't about to give up. Life didn't hand out balanced circumstances.

Piérre was dragged off to the hospital wing, and the duel continued, but Jake could barely focus, shaken by what he had seen. Piérre's horrific landing after the wind broke through his shield jinx, the blood, and the cries and struggles as he had been carted off echoed in his head. But somehow, even more than how he had wailed it was WHAT he'd been saying that made Jake's blood run cold the most. What had he been yelling about? Or WHO? He was still there? Who was he? (There was a new nurse at the school this year....) All Jake knew was whoever it was, it made Piérre terrified. Maybe it was just a concussion or something...Jake had heard that when you hit your head hard all sorts of things could happen. Maybe Piérre was just imagining things, cause of how hard he hit his head. But it had sounded real, and the haunting screams stuck with him nevertheless.
Jake shook his head. He had a job to do...even if his stomach was twisting. He had to TRY....Some people thought dueling was a fun sport, but if you weren't careful something like that could happen to you. The rest of the combatants were still fighting on though. Evelynn was going to be alone against two Ravenclaws who were both strong forces, and while she still looked like she had a lot of strength how long would that last in a 2-on-1?
A cloud of smoke began to obscure the platform again (aw man, not again) as Aida began to cloak the battlefield. Thomas turned his wand at the sky. He'd been burned, he'd been soaked, and he wasn't gonna add a THIRD element to that list - he sent the storm cloud back towards the Gryffindors. But Evelynn must have known how desperate her situation was - she aimed her wand at the Ravenclaw boy and sent a fire spell right in his direction! Thomas may have tried to dodge, but it was too late, the spell connected with his arm before he could avoid it, and now his newly dried robes would once again begin to light.
The echoes of Piérre's exit could still be heard as the battle raged on, coming closer and closer to the end. Thomas had taken a lot of hits this duel - how long could he keep fighting? Now that nobody could see (little did Jake know how well Aida could see in the smoke) it was really anybody's game. Could Evelynn make it a one-on-one showdown? Would the Ravenclaws be able to whittle her down?
And for merlin's sake...was Piérre gonna be ok?

“What happened to your partner? Is he okay? What was he talking about?” Aida asked Evelyn right before sending a smokescreen spell her way. Now, after the jester's meltdown, Aida felt extra bad about letting themselves get paired against what could have turned out to be a friend. Now he would surely just remember Aida as cruel and pain-inflicting. Then again, Aida never did have a way with humans.

With the lead established, Thomas wasn't particularly keen on taking any risks. The young Ravenclaw had once been something of a foolhardy, glory-seeking duelist early on in his dueling career, but a bit of experience had tempered his impulsive nature. Moving the storm cloud back over was a no-brainer; now with only one Gryffindor remaining, they could only cast half the spells, and it may not have been worth it to waste such precious time taking a defensive precaution. Then again, it wasn't as if Thomas was psychic, for all he knew that might have been Evelynn's next grand stratagem.
