The Serpent and the Avian PV Finished

The sun could be seen setting behind the forest outside the window on the way to the Great Hall. It had been a long day of classes and Luna was more than ready for supper. She was not only physically exhausted but mentally as well. This put her in a 'hair-trigger' situation where the smallest slight could set off her anger. She knew this, but hunger demanded that she satisfy it. So she found herself trying not to trip over her own robes in the great hall.

As she arrived, she could see that dinner was already in session and loud conversations and exclamations reverberated throughout the massive walls that made up the great hall. It was a natural echo chamber in essence. Luna wondered how anyone ever focused on eating here. There were far too many distractions. The roar was mostly mild at the moment though so it wasn't so bad. She made herself to the Ravenclaw table carefully dodging the many boisterous students. There were some particularly rowdy first years who nearly knocked her over and caused her to hit the corner of their table, stabbing her in the torso. Luna let out a cry of pain. They bore the emerald of Slytherin. of course this was exactly enough to set her off.

"This is just fantastic." She said, with venom in her voice and sarcasm heavily implied. "Can't you watch where you are going? You have eyes and common sense. That really hurt."

The pair shrunk back, as her voice came out more forcefully than she had intended. The voice combined with her physical appearance created an intimidating combination. The anger coursing through her had her pupils narrowed. Everything about her conveyed her pain and anger. More than likely she was being far too harsh, but at the moment her reasoning was lost in the ocean of fury.

Today had been a good day for Isabella. The professors in her classes had given her easy and quick homework - which lightened her mood. She was smiling as she entered the Great Hall, humming the tune of the song 'Hotel California' by the some muggle band called the 'Eagles'. She had grown up listening to old muggle songs that her mother was obsessed with. She didn't understand how her mother had gotten into the songs. or why she liked them, but she had to admit the tunes were catchy. And the song she was humming was one of the ones she liked more than others.

Looking around the hall, her eyes fell on a Ravenclaw - saying something to two students from her own house. She couldn't hear them, but from the look on the Ravenclaws face and the way the pair of Slytherins shrunk back, she could tell the Ravenclaw was obviously being mean - or even bullying - the two first years. Narrowing her eyes, she made her way over to the trio - all happiness gone from her body.

She stood in front of the Ravenclaw girl, hands on her hips. Glaring at the Ravenclaw, she spoke in a voice that cold chill even the toughest of people. "Excuse me? Hi I'm Isabella Hills, Slytherin. Do you honestly think that you can just bully these two? Do you think you're doing the school some sort of favour because they're in Slytherin? If you want to pick on someone, pick on someone your own size - like me. Merlin forbid it if I just sit here and let you be mean."

Hate and anger flooded through her body. She always got riled up when it came to stuff like this. She couldn't stand people that thought it was alright to bully people. In her eyes, bullies were vile repulsive monsters. Bullying was one of the things she could just not stand. So, of course, whenever she saw anyone being bullied she stood up for them.

Perhaps if the day had gone well she might've reacted better. But today was not that day. Luna perfectionist nature was already on edge due to receiving an 'E' on her Herbology homework. That'd be more than acceptable for most, but not her. Then there was the hunger and pain. That certainly contributed to the growing mess. This likely wouldn't end well.

Luna's eyes narrowed back and locked with the slitted blue eyes of the Slytherin girl. Luna came off the streets, she wasn't easily intimidated. This was hardly the first person to confront her boldly or aggressively, and certainly wouldn't be the last. To add to the matter, this girl didn't even know what was actually happening. She had simply assumed Luna was the perpetrator. That she was a bully! Luna was deeply insulted by this. This girl, Isabella, hadn't even asked what was going on! This simply fueled the anger flaring inside her.

"I don't care what house anyone belongs to, manners and awareness of surroundings are common sense. Or is it suddenly ok to knock people into tables? Am I supposed to just take it?" Luna had shifted herself to face her accuser. Her hand was held over her left side, putting pressure on the wound. She hadn't checked it yet, but she was fairly sure the sharp corner had at least broke skin. The intense pain she had felt was slowly drowning under the effects of the adrenaline coursing through her at the moment  "You don't even know what happened, do you?" Luna braced herself with her other hand against the nearby table. She wouldn't show weakness so she kept herself from grimacing. Deep inside she hoped this resolved quickly. She didn't know how long anger could sustain her.

"I don't care what house anyone belongs to, manners and awareness of surroundings are common sense. Or is it suddenly ok to knock people into tables? Am I supposed to just take it? You don't even know what happened, do you?" She couldn't believe this girl had the audacity to lie to her. She had clearly seen with her own eyes the bullyish tendencies that were present in this unknown girl.

"I know enough to say that you, my dear, are just being plain mean and rude to a couple of students. Surely no person could just start shouting at a pair of strangers, even if what you say is true." She kept her voice in an inside tone, clearly trying to prove her point.

Surely this girl wouldn't have the courage to argue with her. As her previous debaters had discovered, she was not one to mess with. She could seem as happy and kind as she wanted to, when she wanted to. But if you got on her bad side, you were in for one hell of a roller coaster ride.

Rolling her eyes, she spoke again in a voice that could chill anyone to the bone - even if they were wrapped up in as many coats and extra layers as they possibly could be. "Say that they did knock you into a table, don't you think the logical thing to of done would of been to talk to them nicely - instead of blowing your top off at them." Her voice stayed cold throughout the entire sentence - never once breaking or wavering. Her blue eyes never moved from the amber ones. Her body stance made it clear she was not going to back down from this disagreement until she got her way. After all, she was not one to back down from a fight at the first sign of trouble.

Pain was radiating throughout her side, causing Luna to realize that she probably needed to visit the nurse. Exhaustion, hunger, pain... all of these were working to override her logic. Not to mention the hypocritical nature of the Slytherin girl's words. She was clearly attacking Luna, and while not shouting, the cold intent in her voice was quite clear.

Luna grew up with any number of people assuming her intent. Those who believed they knew better than her and could demand anything from her. She wasn't afraid of a fellow student. She wasn't backing down because of a cold voice. She had taken literal beatings in her life. She was a survivor. The only issue right now was her fading strength. The color in her eyes would slowly be dulling, losing their light as her energy faded from lack of food and pain.

"It already sounds like you've made up your mind. I don't have time to convince you of anything. I don't care to if you're going to just make wild assumptions. Maybe I'm unduly angry, but pain will do that." The tension and pain carried through her voice, as she struggled to keep it from wavering.

She wasn't going to back down. She'd willingly pass out first. The only thing that might take her away from here was a need to attend to her injury. Luna hoped it was superficial.

"It already sounds like you've made up your mind. I don't have time to convince you of anything. I don't care to if you're going to just make wild assumptions. Maybe I'm unduly angry, but pain will do that." Man, this girl really knew how to get on her nerves.

Maybe it was the way she so calmly lied about verbally bullying the two first years of her house, or the way the tone of her voice sounded like she was accusing her of doing something wrong, but this girl made her seriously angry. She hadn't done anything wrong had she? She simply stood up for a pair from her house when they were very obviously afraid of this girl.

Their argument was beginning to attract looks from students seated at tables by now, some whispering behind their hands, others just blatantly pointing at them. Did they not know she could see them being so outright? She didn't need attention to be drawn to her about something like this by this girl.

She could hear the pain in the voice of the Ravenclaws voice as she spoke by now, it was obvious she was hurt. Was this... pity she was feeling for the girl who had hurt two of her own? Surely not, she wasn't sire how she could feel something like that for such a person.

Fully aware of the stares and whispers, she decided now would probably be a good time to make herself scarpish and get out of here. "Look, I really don't have the time to deal with a person like you right here, right now in front of a Great Hall full of nosy students. If I ever see you bully one of my own again, you will regret it. And that's a promise."

And with that final sentence, she turned and strood out of the Great Hall - fully aware of all the whispers and rumours being spread about the little scene that horrible girl had created, wrapping her up in it as she did.

Luna was laughing on the inside, in between the pain that is. She was holding her side watching the Slytherin girl depart. It seemed she was uncomfortable with the judgment of others. Luna held no such reservations. Having dealt with the disdain and rejection, in addition to generally attracting attention with her general appearance, she shook it all off like water off a duck’s back.
Luna would have to take note of that, as she was sure that this wouldn’t be the final encounter with the angry girl hailing from the emerald and silver house.

Yet, she also thought she saw a tinge of pity briefly flash in her new adversary. But it was so brief, Luna discounted it as just her mind looking for things that weren’t there. She didn’t have too much time to ponder on it though. The pain in her torso was radiating outward now. It was likely nothing but better safe than sorry. Luna resolved herself to abandon food despite her edacity.

Using the table as a lean, she slowly began moving back toward the entrance to the Great Hall, leaving the two Slytherins boys staring at the end of the whole situation. As she moved, Luna wondered if she had indeed been too cruel. Then again, she also wondered, if the girl who had accosted her had been in her shoes, how would’ve she reacted? Maybe Luna should be intimidated by the fierce Slytherin girl, Isabella, yet she felt no fear. Perhaps there had been benefits to her dismal childhood.

And so Luna wandered out into the dimly lit halls, and a short journey to relieve her pain.
