There was an unusual rift in the air- not the telltale chill of winters touch, or heavy wind that whispered of something foreboding- it was an exciting crackle, a whip of electricity; a familiar feeling that only came with the promise of something new. Brisk. Warm. Tantalizing. Word had been going around the school; some chatter about a club. The club.
Which one? Can't say. That would be violation of the organization's first rule.
Still, it was a rousing thing, and with time it drew attention. Quite a bit of it. Through word of mouth, the club formed into a melting pot of different students, years, ideals; all people who wanted to know one thing: how to defend themselves.
Honing in on the present, today would mark the first activity meeting of the Self-Defense Club (which totally wasn't a fight club of any sort, no sirs). It was the first small step towards much bigger beginnings; the first etching that would mark the formation of the club's legacy. Not only was it important for the organization itself, but it would be salient for those involved. For ease of access, the Ballroom had been chosen to hold the event- cruelly ironic for some perhaps, considering the series of unfortunate events that consistently befell the room. In some way, one could even say it was a bit symbolic to start things off there. But, the space was big enough to hold the group that would be occupying it, and that was really all that mattered.
Beyond the large double doors, focused at the center of the room, was a large rug, stretching over the surface of the slick floor tiles; providing a bit of grip underfoot for anyone who might cross it. It wasn't a usual fixture in the ballroom; and where it came from was something only the club leaders knew (or Xailah, at the very least). One of the many rooms in the school would be missing its floorcloth, though. To one side of the carpeting, was a small station with a teensy table; atop of which sat what looked to be some healing supplies: bandages, salves, plasters (and Hello Kitty ones at that, who knew what muggleborn they had been taken off of)- what else have you. On the mirroring side of the rug, were a few punching bags and homemade dummies- perfect tools for anyone who may need to get their anger out, or that desired a temporary friend.
Not far from the centerpoint, were three (hopefully) familiar faces- belonging to the figureheads of the club. Nearby them, the chatter of some small creatures could be heard- the leaders critter companions. They were waiting it would seem; presumably, for the rest of the club members to arrive. Surely everyone had gotten the memo? Passive glances slid to the doors every now and then, anticipating that telling creak of someone entering. The wait was dreadful, but exciting all the same. It begged the question: who would be the first to arrive?
Right now, this post is purely for arrival and a little bit of talking. Once all interested members have arrived, the activity will begin (details will come later!). Remember, IC-wise there has been brief meetings before this, but canonically, this is our first meeting with an activity!
Before me, you rightly tremble. But, fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe....

Welcome to Fight Club
Howard could barely remember when he had first heard of the club with no name. Well, it had a name, but you weren't supposed to talk about it. Which lead him to believe that most people were a little loose with rule number one. Surely he had heard it from a friend or overheard it whispered among existing members. In fact, maybe it was encouraged to be a little loose lipped about it all. He surely had, but a clever way to advertise something without open doing so. Not to mention it felt cool as hell to be apart of a secret club. Well, kinda secret. Whatever. Howard didn't care either way. It was a chance to hone his skills and maybe even learn a thing or two about self defense. After what they had all been through over the years, no one should be unprepared. The darkness may be gone for now, but surely not forever.
The dhampir's long legs carried him towards the ballroom. Excitement quickened his steps as he made his way. The club had met a few times before, but today was to be their first official event. He daydreamed of what the club organizers had in store for them. Images of a bloody battle royale flittered through his imagination. Probably not, but it would be fun. At least he knew that wands would most likely not come into play. Howard was a subpar caster and a chance to use his hands was always welcome. As he approached the large double doors of the room he shrugged off his wonder. What comes will come.
Howard entered the room and his crimson eyes would quickly take in the scene. "Hey!" He greeted the club leaders that were present before he eyed the large rug that took up the center of the room. Next to it were some trainman dummies and on the other side a table full of first aid supplies. Yes! A chance for some action! "Need help setting anything up? Or should I just wait around till we start?" Howard asked and had already started stretching.

It was time for the first real meeting of the fight club. They had had one with discussion before, but today they would actually get to do things.
To be honest, bailey was curious to see how similar this was to her Martial Artists Club. She was sure that this would be different, and she was curious where the crossover between the clubs would be, and which of her MAC members would also be here.
Changing into an outfit more suitable for working out, Bailey removed all of her jewelry except her initial "b" necklace. Tying up her shoes, Bailey slipped her wand into the cardigan she was wearing, and holding her gear bag over her shoulder and her water bottle in one hand, Bailey left for the meeting.
She was waking down the corridors, max starting to shiver. Bailey tried to hide the shivers when she bumped into her best friend, Kim.
“Heading to the meeting?” He asked. Seeing her shiver, he asked “why aren't you wearing warmer clothes or a coat?”
Bailey blushed scarlet. She had forgotten one, plain and simple.
“I forgot one-I meant to grab one on the way out and I forgot.” Bailey said, shivering.
Kim, being the gentleman he was, removed his coat and handed it to Bailey, saying "Here. You can use my coat until we have to part ways on the way back."
Bailey blushed a deeper red and said “Thanks Kim, you really didn’t have to.”
Walking a little faster, Bailey grabbed Kim’s hand to pull him behind her. She didn’t even think for a moment that he might not be part of this club.
Arriving in the ballroom, Bailey saw two people had already arrived. Both she knew of but had never met personally and gotten to talk to. First up was @Xailah Alptraum, a sixth year Griffindor prefect, and someone bailey greatly respected. The other person in the room was @Howard White, another sixth year and prefect, but this time belonging to the noble and kind house of Hufflepuff.
Bailey smiled as she entered the room, and immediately offered to help. "Hello?! My name is Bailey, Bailey Glade. Is there any way i can help you? Or would you rather me stay out of the way?"permission to write Kim’s dialog was given.
Approval to post was asked for, and given
Permission to god mode Kim was given.
Permission is god mode bailey is given to Kim.

Welcome to Fight Club

Flash had been considering this idea ever since the ordeal in the basements of Hogwarts years ago, when the failure of his spell casting had led him to slowly wonder how useful spells really were. They were a tool like any other, a unique one with nearly endless possibilities, but not a substitute for instinct and survival. As a curious and brave young boy, Flash had already tangled with his fair share of danger, much to his detriment. What started as attempts at heroism would culminate in senseless acts of violence. He could blame it on Falentra, who taught him to fend for himself by any means, but the truth was more personal. Made so often to feel helpless, he craved a sense of safety and strength. Was this the best way to do it? Time would tell, though it had to be better than the outbursts he'd experienced in prior years.
He didn't know what to expect from the rest of the group, whether they would show up regularly or take the subject seriously, but neither did he care. The cream would naturally rise to the top, with or without his help. He was here as a realist, and a talent scout, to a degree. It would be useful to know who among the student body were reliable in a fight. It was this that drew him to collaborate with Xailah and Alan as well, since they had both proven to be reliable in their own ways. He would indeed have his rat Nicodemus in his cage on the table. He often tried to bring the beast on his trips outside the Slytherin basements, when it was possible. This was one of the only things still motivating him to get out in the sun. Nicodemus was himself a bold explorer type, and if left alone, he had a penchant for escaping and needing to be found again. Flash couldn't keep a close eye on him while instructing other students, but at least he could check in on him occasionally.
While waiting for people to arrive, Flash would wave at anyone who would call out to him, and smile if it were a friend. The first three were neither, being Howard White and a previously unknown pair who turned out to be the owners of the Martial Arts Club. They had not acknowledged him, but they seemed antsy to be active. "We're all set up. You can do some stretches if you like. I might even join you."
Flash would suggest so casually, knowing that as more people arrived, they would likely want to talk to their friends. Each new person would get a scan from the Seeker's blue eyes, and their name would be tracked as an attendant on a clipboard he carried.

The half-giant came to a stop within the door frame. His hands locked behind his back, he felt like he was back to drilling new recruits for the broom racing team. Only this was him showing up to present himself instead. Though, if they wanted a show, they could bugger off and watch Healy do a dance at the next ball or something. Being a giant left you with a lot of wandering eyes, all the time, no matter where you went. He wasn't here to be their little mascot in case they needed more support, he trusted at least Xailah to know this of him. They had been on the Gryffindor broom racing team from the beginning, after all.
Hugh's eyes instantly spotted Howard White and his infamous fangs, the bloody bachelor himself. He recalled Serena's crush on him and seemed to recall some recent development in his relationship status. Serena could ramble on and on about these things, but at the very least she looked as if she had got over most of it by now. The other two he wasn't particularly familiar with outside the club meetings, but he made sure to give each of them a nod of recognition as he entered.
A furrowed brow arched upwards as Flash suggested stretching. Instead, the giant took position in the back of the room, crossed both arms and pushed his back against the wall. His hand rose up to pinch his lip as he silently judged those present. The walls were starting to look interesting again, Hogwarts did have such an interesting variety of walls. It occurred to Hugh that he mostly found himself staring at the ballroom's walls. Given the multitude of awkward experiences that happened in here, it wasn't hard to figure out why that was the case. There didn't seem to be any poisoned cupcakes or obvious threats this time, though, but the day could still get interesting. He was here to learn, after all.

Rushing through the corridor, Monica treaded with little care to those around her, there wasn't time to be curious. A slight bump here, a shout of 'sorry' there... surely if people knew why she was in a hurry, they would clear a path for her, unfortunately though the did not, and Monica had to cost by looking like some disrespectful bloat.
She was furious with herself, she had lost track of time playing 'hockey', if you could even call it that, with bubba. She just couldn't be shown up by him! But in her charge for victory, time slipped away, and now she was undressed and running late for the club meeting!
Practically soaring down the staircase as she made her way to her room to change, grateful that no one happened to be going up or down the flight of stairs, Monica burst into her door, and changed the fasted she ever had in her life. Due to the lack of time, she didn't get the change to really think through her outfit, so she just put on her plain gym clothes... perhaps next meeting she would be more prepared, but for now this would have to do. She grabbed her robe on her way back out, and did it up as she dashed back up the staircase.
As she got close to the ballroom, she let her run fall into a brisk walk, no sense looking like she had just ran a marathon, as her paced slowed, she began to breath deeply and heavily. Her breath was staggered from all the running she had just done.
Finally standing right at the doorway, she took a moment, took a big breath in, and let it out... she opened the door to walk into the room. It became quite clear that so far, she was the youngest student to attend, but it didn't phase Monica much, she was sure she could hold her own against anyone of any size, and this club was the perfect place to show that. As heads turned as Monica entered she quickly saw Bailey, the girl from the train. Monica waved at her, before joining the cluster of those that have arrived already.
"Sorry I'm a bit late guys... I lost track of time whilst outside..." Monica took note of those there and it would seem she wasn't the only one behind a bit. "Ah...I'm Monica for those who don't know..." Her lungs felt like bursting, she had been trying to keep her deep breaths shallow, to not appear like she was out of breath, but it was beginning to catch up with her.

ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | Puffie wasn't with him. Mostly because this time Kim was going to attend a club called the Self-Defense Club, also known by a nickname. Fight Club. He was fairly certain they'd be using some kind of physical abilities over spells, because otherwise it would have been more like an unofficial dueling club. How this club would differ from Bailey's Martial Artist Club was going to be interesting and Kim was curious as to how they would do things in a different manner. He was currently dressed in a sleeveless white shirt, black pants and a black with white stripes zip-up windbreaker. Earlier, he'd thrown a long, tan coat over the outfit as it was pretty cold outside and he'd intended on going outside for a bit. But he'd run into Bailey who had been shivering upon meeting him and had given her his coat to wear. As Bailey hurried ahead, grabbing his hand to pull him along behind her, Kim allowed her to do so. Even though he normally didn't allow anyone to touch him, Bailey was different. He couldn't really put his finger on the reason, it just was something he'd gotten used to. When they reached their destination, Bailey let go of his hand and went over to introduce herself to those already inside. Kim took the time to look around the room. It was the ballroom area again. Quite a popular place. A large rug could be seen near the middle of the room, probably to give those gathering some traction. Traction they otherwise wouldn't have had on such a slippery smooth floor. Off to the side was a small table with what looked like healing supplies. Most likely to take care of any injuries that might occur during the meetings. Off to the left were some punching bags and dummies set up to be used, which looked great to him. They certainly had gone all out to set things up, making sure everything was covered that could possibly go wrong or that they might need during activities. The club had potential and promise. Kim let his eyes flicker over the three students in charge. Flash Holmwood, Xailah Alptraum and Alan Vanes. Kim knew Alan from the first week he'd been at Hogwarts. Alan and him had run into eachother literally. Xailah he'd come to know earlier that year during early April and remembered with trepidation that she had a cat, which had made his trauma kick in at the time she'd come close back then. As for Flash, he had never really interacted with him before and hadn't even seen him up close. The closest he'd come had been at summer camp but Flash seemed like a very nice person to him. Probably someone to form some kind of connection with at some point in time. Howard White was also present, Hogwarts's own special champion for the famous Hexwizard Tournament. A newcomer arrived, the name escaping Kim's mind at the moment, along with Monica Evans. He and Monica had gotten to know eachother earlier regarding a rather unexpected meeting between them. One that had started off in the abandoned toilets area. Kim nodded to each one of the people mentioned before. There was no need to greet them all, other than with a nod, because no one had said anything as of right now. That was when Flash took it upon himself to tell them they could do some stretches if they wanted to and Kim nodded, deciding to go about doing so. He was fine allergy-wise. Yes, Kim had come prepared this time, that was for sure. After all, having found out Xailah was in possession of a cat before, and knowing that she was one of the people in charge here, Kim had prepared ahead of time to down an allergy potion. But even though his allergies wouldn't kick in during the meeting, that still didn't get rid of his feline trauma. And he hoped that Xailah's cat wouldn't be like most of the other cats he'd interacted with before. Kim had a tendency to make quite a few cats go after him. Not because they hated him but because they liked him for some unknown reason. It was kind of an ironic thing for him. Those who loved cats, tended to have cats run from them. And those who hated cats, tended to have cats run to them. As long as Xailah's cat stayed far away from him, Kim would be fine. He moved over to a section of the room that was as close to the edge of the room as possible. Then, lowered himself down and started to stretch out his legs, after giving a nod of greeting to the three leaders again. Just in case they hadn't seen him the first time. He glanced over at Bailey to see if she was going to join him. Easing his muscles into stretching, Kim continued to prep himself. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

Welcome to Fight Club
Ethan wrapped his fingers around the metal zipper of his jacket, tugging it up to his chin. The gray t-shirt he had worn earlier would have been insufficient in this weather; the temperature was well below freezing and the wind was howling.
Better to be safe than sorry, he thought.
The material of the jacket was thick and warm, and he was soon feeling better.
He stepped out onto the Gryffindor common room and was immediately enveloped in the noise and bustle of the students greeting him. It was always a bit overwhelming, the sheer number of people in the castle, but he was used to it by now. He made his way through the throngs of students, greeting those he knew and exchanging pleasantries with others before making his way towards the ballroom.
Ethan had been picking out a club to join for a while now. He had considered many options, but nothing really stood out to him. That is, until he heard about the self-defense club.
The idea of learning how to properly defend himself appealed to Ethan. He had been traumatized by an incident where someone had elbowed him in the eye. He figured that if he learned how to properly defend himself, he could avoid getting hurt like that again.
The massive black doors stood before him, ominous and foreboding. He slowly reached out and wrapped his fingers around the cold metal handles, hesitating for a moment before he finally summoned the courage to push them open.
He was welcomed by people preparing for the activity they would do. They stretched their muscles, getting ready to exert themselves. “I hope I'm not late..” he muttered, apologizing for his tardiness. He scanned the room and saw the star chaser from his recent Quidditch match. He was glad to have at least one familiar face in the sea of unfamiliar faces.
Ethan felt a little out of place as he joined the others in stretching. He wasn't quite sure what to do, but he figured he would start by reaching his arms up over his head and stretching at the top. Then he bent down and touched his toes, feeling the stretch through his whole body. Next, he did some side bends and twists to loosen up his muscles even more. Finally, he took a deep breath and jumped up.
He can't wait to see what they will do next.@Xailah Alptraum @Howard White @Bailey Glade @Flash Holmwood @Hugh Lowe @Monica Evans @Kim Sato

Welcome to Fight Club
He wasn’t one for clubs. Outside of his perennial training for broom racing, Nicholas didn’t see much need to socialise with many of his other students when it came to exercise. He knew how to push himself well enough, how to fling himself at ungodly speeds at obstacles and pull out from crashes at the last minute. Besides, most of the clubs that the students organised held absolutely zero interest for the once-upon-a-time racing captain. Muggle interests and performing arts, he could not think of anything more dull.
This proved the sole exception.
Violence was an outlet. Not that he had been involved in anything in the way of brawls, excepting the occasional punch thrown, no, he’d contented himself with structured displays of violence and competition. Namely the airborne gladiatorial arena, wherein blatching had become a key component of his arsenal. Still, there was something more he craved, some greater outlet.
Anger and frustration seemed to constantly boil away at his core, and short of the few times where Aurora managed to quell it via awkward confessions of adoration and hand-holding, he found himself almost unable to focus. Why was he so angry all the time? He did not know, nor could he comprehend the depth of adolescent rage and hormones. Only while he was pitting himself against others did he seem to feel at least somewhat free of the burden of the fire within. Violence was the exhaust through which such emotions could be safely dispelled, and sport provided the perfect excuse for such.
So a sport that did away with all preconceptions and merely pit bodies against bodies was perfect. A true competition, that’s what fighting was.
Nicholas entered the ballroom in his trademarked way, slouched and dishevelled. His long hair threatened to fall over his face, held back only by a ratty headband. Dark eyes flickered over those assembled, many a familiar face, almost all of whom were older than he. Not to mention over half of his racing team had arrived. It seemed the way, they were bruisers after all.
He waved lazily at the organisers, nodding toward Xailah, before he made his way to, surprisingly, the one person in the room he was most comfortable with. Hugh Lowe.
The part-giant was about as friendly as an elderly mastiff. But shared roars and discussions as to racing uniforms has bridged the gap somewhat.
“Lowe,” Nicholas grunted as he took up his place by the giant at the wall.
Whereas his alleged companion seemed content to stare at the walls, Nicholas took his time examine those around him.

Welcome to Fight Club

@Nicholas McCowan
And another familiar face joined the group. Hugh would have been surprised at McCowan's choice to come stand with him, but in truth the two of them had their own bit of history by now. A former captain and co-captain who had managed a team together. And one of their teammates was now looking to teach them stuff. Things were coming full circle.
"Cap'n." Hugh replied without adverting his eyes on a particular flaky spot in the back corner of the room. "I figured you would be someone that had some background in self-defence sports. Or are you just here to show you're top of the class already?" The giant's eyes slowly slid sideways to give Nicholas a look that offered him a great deal of silent judgement. Praying that the next thing coming wasn't a long-winded retelling of his 'glory years' of collecting belts and running around in white pyjamas.
"I'm tall" Hugh began, stating the obvious for the real thickheads standing around. "So most people run off after taking an extra look or two. But I don't really know what to do when it comes to a fight, to be entirely honest." Hugh folded both his arms and straightened his back, one hand pinched his lower lip as he seemed to ponder on something. "Got my ass handed to me in an alley not too long ago. On a trip to Hogsmeade, no less."
The giant shrugged and sighed. "Like I said, most people run off. Others see me as a walking red flag, and they're the bull that's gonna charge no matter what."
