Letters to family solo

Dear Jonny,
I'm not a badger! I really really wanted to be a badger like you. You said you made the greatest friends in your house. I know that you are still friends with some of them at your work. I just really wanted to be a badger. I ended up a Ravenclaw like Ma and Maggy. I didn't want you to be the only Hufflepuff. I know that you said that the hat would put me in the house I belong (Why didn't you warn me about the hat talking?!). It told me that I'd be a great Hufflepuff, but that I'd go farther if I was in Ravenclaw. How does the hat know that? What if I'd be happier in Hufflepuff? Is there any way to get it changed? Please??? I think you knew, didn't you? Please don't tell Ma or Maggy, but I don't know if I'll fit in with the Ravenclaws. I remember Maggy complaining about some of her classmates being sneaky about homework and sabotaging her work. I don't want to deal with mean classmates, I want to do well, but I don't want to be cruel about it. I did promise you that I would try my best, and I will! The other kids I've met in my house have seemed really nice so far. I'm hoping that the mean ones that Maggy had were just with her. We got together yesterday for a study session. It was nice being able to talk about the work as well as what we have seen in the school.

Dear Jonny,

First, I'll tell the Fat Friar hi from you. He really is as jolly as you described. He smiled and greeted every one of his Badgers from the sevenths on down to the firsts. He also took time to ask about each of them and how they were doing. Since I owled you a few things have changed. Classes have started and Ravenclaw has study sessions available for those who want to. The older students are very helpful when the first years are stuck on some work. More than once has the Common Room turned into a massive study session as research is done and questions are answered. My dormmates are really nice and the older students are too. I think that I'm going to be happy as a Ravenclaw. You were right, you always are. I just needed time to get to know them.

Enough about school, how is work going? You said in your letter you found a new bookshop near you. Hopefully, we can go there the next time we visit. I can't wait to see you.

Dear Maggy,

I'm sorry that it's taken so long to write. I have been settling down into my schedule and dorm. I was sorted into Ravenclaw, just like you and Ma. I reside in the Booted Eagle dorm. I remember that you were in the Crowned Eagle. I don't know if you ever visited the Booted Eagle dorm, but it is very lovely. The room is cozy and warm. The maps on the walls are fascinating to look at. Sometimes I like to look at them and plan out different routes to travel.

I am enjoying my classes so far. There is so much to learn and my classmates seem very nice. I can't wait to see what we are going to learn next. I remember you saying that Potions is especially interesting. I am really enjoying Transfiguration myself, but I'll make sure to focus extra hard in Potions.

Dear Ma and Da,
I can't wait to see you both again. I loved seeing you during the Easter holiday. I'm sorry that I had to study so much but it was great to see you both. I'm sorry that Jonny and Maggy couldn't come down from London. Thank you again, Ma, for helping me study my Potions material. I'm surprised at how well I'm doing in Herbology! All that time helping you Da when you tend the garden was right helpful. I enjoyed learning about Mandrakes and Gillyweed. Can Gillyweed be used in marshes? I know my prof told me we could use it in water, but marshes have an awful lot of plant matter so sometimes its more really soggy ground and less water. Would it be okay if we try it over the summer? I think it would be interesting to see what all is actually in the marsh.

I'll see you both in a few weeks. I don't remember what time we head out but I promise to look it up after I get back from the Owlery. I promise to fill you in on how my exams went when I see you in London.

Dear Jonny,
The view from the dorms is beautiful. The bright colors of the leaves gently blowing in the breeze is almost hypnotizing. I'm still enjoying Potions class, although scrubbing my cauldron is annoying. Why can't we use magic to clean them? I've seen Ma use scrubbing spells, surely we can use them on our cauldrons. I'm thinking about getting a pet, but I'm not sure what kind. I think I would like a ferret. They seem playful and cuddly, but I've heard that they can cause a bit of a stink. I also thought about a lizard. Less stink, but also less cuddly. Let me know what you think in your next owl. I don't want to get a pet and then regret it.

How is London? You mentioned over the summer that you moved. What is your new flat like? Where is it?

One of my classmates just ran in, so I think its time for Herbology. I'll send this out after class.
