I had made a New Year's Resolution to actually try to study instead of just pretending, and I decided, why not start early? So I went to an empty classroom and stared at my book of spells for what felt like hours, but I'm pretty sure that's not studying. I felt like knocking my head against a wall. I took out a different book, A History of Magic, and stared at the words until they blurred in front of my eyes. I was more or less reading the words than staring at them. And then I heard the sound of a door opening and slamming. I jumped and looked up to see a very familiar figure standing there, speaking in a foreign language that I didn't really understand, which I was sure was most definitely French, I could tell by the way the words were said and I recognized some of the sounds. Lily knew French? That was really cool, in my opinion. I'd always wanted to learn French! It seemed that Lily hadn't noticed I was here at first until she stopped. The only sound in the room was my breathing. Even though she was turned away from me, I thought I could sense her turning red. "Sorry," Lily mumbled. Giving a little smile, I said, "Oh no, don't be sorry Lily, it's only me," I said. "I think it's great that you know French. I've always wanted to learn it." I patiently awaited Lily's response.
