Have you been well? You wrote that you were tired, and I just want to make sure everything is okay. If you're feeling under the weather, I'm sure Uncle Harris can brew something for you!

I am perfectly fine. I was merely tired because of a trying week. And the news didn't make it much better. All over Britain, there have been reports of "protests", more like riots. Some people just don't know how to appreciate what they have. Are you not grateful, Isadora, for what you've been given? You have an education, a status, and so many prospects because of your grandfather and I. The state of this world...

Do not trouble yourself with my health.

I'm sorry to hear about the news. I've been so busy with schoolwork I haven't spent much time reading the Daily Prophet. I hope the Ministry puts an end to the violence soon.

It's refreshing to be appreciated for once. Don't trouble yourself with politics, child. It will likely go over your head. I highly anticipate your next report to see the progress you've made. How is that History essay you mentioned? Have you turned it in yet? Be careful not to fall behind on assignments with the coming of winter. You're likely to receive some end-of-semester work before break, and you must schedule your time effectively. And since you seem to have so much time to frolic with those Hufflepuff classmates of yours, you shouldn't have trouble making time for your studies.

Dearest Grandmother,

I've attached a report of my marks. I managed to pull up my average to an O, but I still received an E in Defense Against the Dark Arts and History of Magic. The former is due to a stupid mistake, I overlooked an important detail in my homework and lost points. It won't happen again. The latter, I admit, is troubling me. I studied very hard for that essay and I'm not sure what else I can do. Please believe me when I say I've tried my hardest. I know how important this is to you, and I'm sorry.

Did I not warn you about this? You send messages to me of your distracting classmates and act as if you don't know what went wrong. Simply spend more time on your studies and this won't be a problem. Two E's in a row in History, do you understand how difficult that will be to bring up? I've half a mind to leave you at Hogwarts for the holidays so you can better use the break studying! Do not bother contacting me for the rest of the month unless you can come up with a better excuse.

Thank you so much. I know it will be a challenge but I will bring up my average in History of Magic by the end of the year.

The castle is becoming very festive, though I'm sure it pales in comparison to the decorations at the manor. Are we hosting any parties this year? I wasn't certain since you haven't mentioned it. If not, I'm sure we'll have a wonderful time attending others' Christmas parties. Also, you neglected to mention Grandfather's attendance. Is he not well enough to go?

I remember the festivities of winter of Hogwarts from when I was a girl. It was truly second to none. My Head of House had especially good taste, and I took that with me into adulthood. I still have the glass ornament he gifted me at graduation.

No, we will not be receiving guests this year, save perhaps for Cassiopeia. She wrote to me last month from Vienna and mentioned dropping in after New Year's. Typical of her to come without an official invitation, but I will not turn away family. I must be feeling particularly giving this season.

The physician recommended your Grandfather not travel these weeks. He never much liked these gatherings anyhow, stubborn like our son. I hope I can coax Harrison away from work a few nights to mingle with some eligible ladies. Or perhaps Bradley will make a match, he is growing to be quite the charmer.

Be sure to finish your schoolwork so you may remain focused at these events.
