Summer Camp Cabin of the Basilisk Closed

Interacts with the group discussing the games

With a mild look of awe on her face, Dinah listened to the description Skye gave of what a Basilisk actually was. While the idea of a giant snake was impressive by itself, she was also impressed by the girls ability to recall the information. She sounded a little like a textbook but oddly, it wasn't a bad thing. It gave her the distinct impression of being of a great intellect and Dinah respected that.
Dinah felt herself blushing furiously as she realised that in her impressed state she had been daydreaming, most probably also caused by the mysterious atmosphere of the cabin, and she had completely ignored a fellow student who had asked her a question. (Marcia) She watched her disappear up the stairs and told herself that when the girl returned she would make sure to apologise. If there was one thing she hated, it was unnecessary rudeness.

Skye suggested a game to get the group comfortable with each other which Dinah agreed would be a good idea. Not used to making an effort to make friends, Dinah surveyed the room of strangers and considered what she could do to try and befriend them. Summer camp itself was not something she was ultimately very comfortable with so the best thing she could do to make it easier, was to make some friends.

"I'm happy to do whatever. All the games sound fun to me." Dinah smiled at the group weakly, hoping she sounded somewhat enthusiastic. In all honesty, the bean bags were looking mightily comfy right about now. After the bonfire, she was ready to chill a little.

She noticed the girl from earlier, whom she had ignored, within the group and made to touch her arm lightly and get her attention. "Oh hi, sorry for ignoring you earlier. I didn't mean to, I was just in a bit of a daze. All this is kind of a lot to take in when you've never been to a summer camp before...never mind a magic one!" Dinah let her voice trail off, feeling a little lost. "So what shall we do?"

Interacting with everyone discussing games to play.

Evelyn winced as the Ravenclaw girl seemed to be disappointed in her lack of games they all could play. It's not like she didn't have any game ideas they could play at all, but they were all Muggle games. Not that there was anything wrong with that, there were Muggle sports and games that she loved. Evelyn loved football, or even a silly game like would you rather, but lots of the other students here weren't Muggle-Born like her, as she'd discovered. It's not that the young Gryffindor was socially inept, she'd like to think she handled herself perfectly fine. But, well, this was her first impression to a lot of these people, she didn't want to just spout an idea they'd immediately see as boring.

She chuckled as the Slytherin began to explain the rules of Giants, Wizards, and Elves. It seemed silly, but in a very good way. "Oh, that sounds really fun!" Evie nodded in approval, but also realized that the Ravenclaw girl had a point in wanting to play a less physical game. It was late after all. "Maybe save that one for later though, she's got a point."

After a few more moments of deliberation, the young redhead who'd told Evie that they should have already handed in their Muggle Devices spoke up and suggested... Would You Rather.

... Huh.

So, wizards and witches actually played that too, huh? Evie... supposed it made sense. Not everything had to be centered around magic. She felt a little embarrassed that she sort of assumed otherwise though. That doesn't matter though, she could definitely rebound after this. It's not like anyone knew she thought that.

"Oh, that's a good one too," the young girl said with a smile, plopping down into one of the beanbags. "I can go first, I've got a good one! Would you rather... have the ability to stop time for an hour once a day..." She paused for a moment. "Or have the ability to go back and repeat something that happened within the last twenty four hours, also once a day?"

She felt like that was a fun question. Not her best, but not her worst. She was going to ask something about wanting to fly but only directly north or turn into the Incredible Hulk but only while you slept, but she realized just before she said it that witches and wizards had brooms to let them fly already. So... kind of a pointless question, she guessed.

She looked over to Dinah, a fellow Gryffindor. Evie was only going to ask her the question at first, since she already sort of knew her from the Common Room, but she remembered that you could also ask entire groups questions in this game too.

She scratched her head awkwardly as she scanned the room. She really hoped they didn't think that question was a bad one. She already felt she'd embarrassed herself a tad after she ran down late.

Personally, Evie felt like she'd rather have the ability to stop time.

Marcia felt herself blush, when the Ravenclaw girl asked for her name. "Oh", she said with a faint smile, "I'm sorry, I sometimes speak before I think, you all must know each other by now. I'm Marcia, I fell asleep during the bonfire. Sorry that I'm late. I choose a room near the stairs, it was free so I hope noone has wanted it." She pointed with her finger towards the stairs, at which end her room for the next weeks would be.

The Ravenclaw girl seemed tired, which is why Marcia understand that she wasn't eager to play a game of tag. On the other had she saw her point; the cabin was not the best place to run and play gestures. Further embarrassed she fell silent, after she had thanked the Ravenclaw for telling her the professor's name.

She repeated the name in her thoughts and tried to remember if she had heard the name Professor Galim before, but she was sure her neither her brother nor someone in her dorm or class had ever mentioned her. She doesn't teach Runes, Killian would have mentioned her. Magical Creatures? Mh, no she doesn't look like the type that would care for some beasts.

Her train of inner thoughts was interrupted, when the Gryffindor, the girl she had spoken to first, approached her. Marcia listened to what she said smirked at her. "It's alright, no worries. I feel the same, to be honest. I'm still not sure why I'm here or what I should expect from ... this." She made a wide hand gesture, covering most of the insides of their cabin. This was her first summer camp as well. She never had been to a common Summer Camp, or a magical one.

A redhead Ravenclaw suggested another game: Would you Rather. Marcia wasn't hurt that they wouldn't play what she had suggested. She could see their reasoning and wouldn't be adamant that they should play her rock, paper, scissors variant.

She had played that game of words before at a birthday, shortly before they had switched to spin the bottle. Marcia hoped the girls wouldn't have the same idea, she had no desire of playing this.

The last girl piped up and let herself flung into one of the beanbags. Marcia chuckled when she saw the girl sink in one of those bags. She immediately wanted to do the same, as she listened to the question about would what she would rather do.

It's been some time since she had played it, but is she remembered correctly, everyone could answer, so she chose a beanbag for herself and thought about the question. The bean bag gave in underneath her and she felt herself vanish in it. "Time Travel, that's hard." She combed through her short hair with her fingers and thought about the conversation she once had with her Nana. "I think I would rather stop time. Nana says that I should cherish the time that I have, and that I should learn from my mistakes. So I guess, if I would be able to go back in time, I wouldn't value every moment; or I would just undo every mistake, but then I wouldn't learn anything, would I?" With a frown she looked at her peers and questioned her answer. Now that it was out, she wasn't sure if it made any sense. A few seconds ago it had made perfectly sense in her head.

Furthermore she didn't know if she should wait for the others to answer, or if she was supposed to ask another question. The beanbag underneath her scrunched with ever movement, filling the awkward silence with the sound of gravel being pressed together.

Drip, drip, drip.

The faucet in the attached bathroom was dripping every other rhythmic beat. To others, it was perhaps insanity, but for Maya, it was pure bliss to have some sort of white noise behind the silence of the cabin. But that was just it: silence. It was the summer and the cabin should be filled with lots of laughter and giggles. Instead, it was filled with mild chatter and well, one child that was disgruntled.

Something needs to be done, she thought to herself. She never did any sort of ice breaker and perhaps there was a way to make up for the mistake that she had done without letting them know she made a mistake. Laying across her bed, Maya stared at the ceiling and tried to think of something that would get their attention to really start talking. A few moments later, it hit her.

Maya slowly got up from the bed and grabbed her wand that was sitting on the nightstand near her. She went to the amoire that was in the corner of the room and found a bunch of pillows of all shapes and sizes bunched together. She grabbed one pillow and the entirety of the bunch fell to the ground. Shrugging, she pointed her wand at the pillows while walking closer to the door.

"Wingardium Leviosa," she said, and with a swish and a flick, the pillows of all shapes and sizes made their way above the ground, floating in midair. Pointing her wand at the pillows, she slowly began to point the wand towards the door she was near. Opening the door ever so slightly and quietly, she had the pillows leave her room one-by-one and into the den where the girls were playing. Perhaps this would give them something to talk about. She remembered when she was little and had a bunch of pillows to play with. She often made forts and fought with them with her siblings. Who knew what kids today were like, but she at least felt comfortable to give them something to talk and be creative about.

Once the last pillow left the room, she lowered her wand and closed the door. She made her way back to her bed, placed the wand back on the nightstand and laid down. She closed her eyes, not yet sleeping, but just taking in the drippy noise from across the room, and perhaps, the laughter of the girls outside her door.

"You guys-" sniffle "-better be quiet or you'll wake the professor, and I'd rather avoid her please." Verla sniffled again. She knew she would have no fun for the rest of the time in the cabin, maybe with the girls yes, but definitely not with adults. In fact, she hated them. Especially the one in the cabin. She was so heart broken.

When she said she'd never forgive the professor, she meant it. It wasn't a fact, it was a promise. She wanted nothing to do with the world any more. She wanted to argue, for Oliver's sake. But then she'd get in trouble. She didn't care. She stood up and knocked on the professors door. She waited for a response.

Verla had to handle this in a mature manner. So she was going to if she wanted to keep Oliver. Verla smiled (if) when the door opened, even though she was sobbing mess, she could still look beautiful when she wanted to. This time she had to handle this differently, a way she didn't know how. This could be a new experience for both of them. "Professor, we really need to talk, please, it's important." And it was, it was about her best friend!

"What cannot be seen, felt, or carried?" Person who gets this right I will donate some money to them.

Skye watched as the rest of the girls discussed. Her brain was whirring now, but she stayed observant. Dinah watched her with an expression that Skye couldn't quite place - awe? She blushed slightly. She had never been acknowledged for how much she knew. Mostly, she was called a nerd for her ability to sound like a textbook. And Dinah was a second year! Skye smiled to herself. Maybe Dinah hadn't said anything out loud, but it made her feel bubbly to know that someone actually thought that she was not just a nerd.

Skye shook herself back into reality. She watched Evelyn as she spoke, and perched quietly on a beanbag. Her brain had not stopped whirring, and she weighed the pros and cons of each situation, subconsciously humming 'You Stole My Cauldron but You Can't Have My Heart' by Celestina Warbeck. Her mother was a fan of the Singing Sorceress, and her songs had been playing non-stop on their radio at home.

"Well..." she began. Her choice was different from the others', and she hoped they wouldn't judge her for that. "I would choose to have the ability to go back and repeat something that happened within the last twenty four hours once a day. Stopping time, for me I feel, does not help. Once you stop time, you will not be changing anything but will only be giving yourself extra time to think. If you could repeat something, wouldn't that be righting your wrongs? When you learn from a mistake, I feel like you shouldn't just learn. You should apply what you learnt. This ability could also help you replay something you really loved which happened during the day. Hence my choice," she finished, just before a flash of white caught her eye.

Pillows? Then she noticed where they were coming from. Professor Galim's room. No one seemed to have noticed them yet. She silently pointed to the pillows, and a mischievous smile crept onto her face. She did not know if the girls would approve of her idea. Leaping nimbly to the fluffiest pillow she could find, Skye grabbed it and raised it up. "Anyone up for fort building? Pillow fight?" she asked. Her green eyes were sparkling, adrenaline rushing through her. Secretly, she was hoping for a pillow fight.
