“You know that little gray line between being a pessimist and an optimist? Yeah, that’s me: a realist.”
Adina is known for her pessimistic attitude towards life and in general day-to-day situations, though she swears she’s only being realistic in comparison to her overly positive family. She has a wicked sense of humor, often seen as too dark for someone her age, but Adina can’t help what she finds funny. She has an interest in the dark side of things, something that has mostly worried her mother. In comparison to the rest of her family, Adina seems to be the odd one out, but according to her mother, it only made sense Adina was like this because her grandmother was very much the same way. Despite Adina’s tendency to be quite dark-minded, she does have a ‘bright’ side to her. Times when she is gardening and crocheting tends to bring out the best in Adina, and only the friends she’s managed to make can see her better side: a sarcastic and curious girl who just so happened to have a little too much free time for her mind to wander.

Adina is a very creative and imaginative person, who struggles with social anxiety. She’s always been considered shy because of this, but due to an over-imaginative mind, Adina tends to overthink and fear the worst. She was always taught to be cautious of her surroundings and of the people around her, because no one ever truly knew a person unless they were that person. Adina, of course, has friends, but not very many, and that’s how she likes it. Adina prefers the one or two friends that she can count on, rather than a whole population of friends that she didn’t know and could hardly trust. Despite her gloomy personality, Adina tends to go for friends who are bright and optimistic. She sticks by the ‘Opposites attract’ motto of hers. Afterall, if her mother and brother were optimists and she got along with them so well, then surely that meant she was better off making friends with people who were nothing like her.

| Mother: Marianna Leslie Rosewood; Age: 34 Marianna Rosewood grew up with only one parent as well, her mother, Cecelia. Her father passed away when she was five years old, so she hardly remembered him, but her mother could always tell great stories about him. Like how he had built a small plane all on his own, only to have crashed it in a nearby field. That wasn’t how he died, but he did come out with a few broken bones. Marianna was placed in the Ravenclaw house at Hogwarts, which she felt fit her quite well, seeing as she was all about her books and had excellent photographic memory that could help her remember anything she might have needed for her quizzes and tests. She met Isaac Hawthorne at Hogwarts, and the two had become a couple when Marianna had graduated from Hogwarts. |

| Father: Isaac Alexander Hawthorne; Age: 36 Isaac Hawthorne is a man of many interests. He was known at Hogwarts for being a bit of a player and a flirt, but everyone had thought that had changed when he and Marianna Rosewood had got together. Isaac was placed in the Gryffindor house at Hogwarts, always taking the life away from his parents as a chance to be whoever he wanted to be and do whatever he wanted to do. He never had many rules growing up, allowing him to get away with nearly anything. He supposed that had he had some rules to help him grow in life, then maybe he would have been a better husband and father. Isaac left Marianna Rosewood shortly after their second child was born. He had decided he wasn’t fit for the role of a father after an intense argument between him and Marianna. He had realized that his partying days were long over if he were to stick around as a parent and a husband, and left with the mindset that he wanted more time to “be young.” Why it took him until Adina was born to figure this out, no one knows, though Marianna figured it was because of their argument that pushed him to such a conclusion. |

| Brother: Thomas William Rosewood; Age: 16 Thomas was only five years old when his father left the family, but he could remember the man as clear as day. Thomas was placed in the Gryffindor house at Hogwarts, and while he likes the idea of throwing parties and being everyone’s favorite prankster, Thomas is actually very good at his classes and has never (minus one test) had a bad grade.He likes to poke and prod at Adina, his little sister, but he really is protective of her. He had been the one to help her find her first instance of magical powers, something he worried she would never get . He wanted to see his sister attending Hogwarts with him, see what house she would be in, see her succeed and actually make friends that might help her out of her gloom and doom attitude. |

| Grandmother: Cecelia Adina Rosewood; Age: 66 Cecelia is Marianna’s mother, and very much a part of Thomas and Adina’s life. She helped raise them when Isaac left the family, so Marianna could work as much as she needed to to help keep the house and the children well fed. She is always willing to help her daughter and grandchildren, though she thinks they could do without so many pets. It’s clear that the amount of pets they have is only a way to fill the void in Marianna’s heart. Despite the amount of times Cecelia has tried to get Marianna to go out on dates, Marianna seems content with just the four of them (Adina, Thomas, herself, and Cecelia)...and her seemingly never-ending pets. Cecelia was a Ravenclaw herself when she had attended Hogwarts, her husband a Ravenclaw as well. It only made sense that their only child had become a Ravenclaw, and so Cecelia always hoped her grandchildren would become Ravenclaw’s as well. Thomas was a bit like his father at times, so it made sense that he was a Gryffindor, but Cecelia had one thought when it came to the houses: So long as you’re not a Slytherin, everything will be okay. Clearly, she had some problems with the Slytherins in her time, but nothing she was willing to share with everyone. |

Background (Extended)
Adina Rosewood, also known as Addie or Dina, was the second and last born child in the Rosewood family. Her last name was once Hawthorne, but after her father left, her mother had all their last names changed to her maiden name: Rosewood. Adina grew up going back and forth from her mother’s small home in Luton, to her grandmother’s home in Hitchin, England. Both homes were often surrounded by some kind of wildlife and nature, giving Adina the chance to learn all she wanted when it came to plants and nature. Of course, it helps that she always had a backyard and garden to work with. Adina grew up quite opposite from her brother. She was quiet, so much so that it often scared her mother, and Adina always had a knack for sneaking up on people. Her grandmother would always laugh, claiming Adina reminded her so much of herself.
“Why do I bother reading horror books? I’m learning how to survive in case I ever find myself to be in a hauntingly dangerous situation.”
As Adina grew older, it became clear that she was going to be nowhere near like her brother Thomas. She preferred to stay inside when she wasn’t managing her garden, and she was not a fan of sports, though she does enjoy supporting her brother who plays Quidditch. Adina loves reading books, especially the dark and suspenseful ones that keep her up at night, something her mother wished she would have put a stop to a long time ago. Adina had always enjoyed sitting by the fire pit on cold nights, while her grandmother brushed her (at that time) long copper hair and told her a story about her grandfather. Stories…Adina loved stories. The darker the better, but she does enjoy the occasional heart-warming story, only if it’s by her grandmother though. Adina often says that the quickest way to her heart is by telling her a really good story, one that compels her to learn more, or keeps her on the edge of her seat.
Adina and her brother have a great relationship. They bicker and fuss like every other sibling does, but they rely on each other well enough to trust the other with everything, despite the age gap. Adina does wish that she could spend more time with her brother, but he’s older than her, and has his own set of friends to hang out with and his own hobbies to indulge in. Which is why Adina made her own friends around the neighborhood she lived in, each one bright and bubbly. A complete opposite to what Adina is like, but she had always preferred this. Adina always said it meant that she could keep her hobbies and interests to herself rather than sharing them, though she would openly admit that it gets a bit lonely at times. However, Adina likes making friends that are the complete opposite of her. She says out of every scary book she had read, making friends with outgoing and optimistic people is by far the scariest thing she has had to endure. They push her outside her comfort zone. They urge her to do what she would never do within the safety of her room. They dare her to be bold. That, in itself, is exhilarating and thrilling to Adina, like a real life thriller story, stepping outside of her comfort zone. This occurs rarely though, as Adina is not a fan of meeting new people, but the few she has met, she really enjoys hanging out with.
“Thomas, I appreciate your help, really...but if you ever ruin my plants again, I'll come after your broom.”
All of Adina’s life, her family had been keeping a close eye on her. Not because they didn’t trust her, or feared for her safety, but because they were hoping to catch the moment where her magic was revealed. Problem was, Adina was too comfortable in her home. Nothing bothered her, nothing fazed her, nothing odd ever really happened to make her react. Until her brother decided to change that. Because Adina enjoyed horror so much, Thomas had decided to scare Adina as much as possible in high hopes of getting her to reveal her magic. It was getting to the point where her family were beginning to think she had no magic, that she would be the first muggle family member since many generations (at least from her mother’s side). Adina was ten years old, swallowing the hard pill of acceptance that she very well just might have no magic within her. Until one day, when she was tending to the strawberry bushes in her garden, when her brother and a group of his friends decided to pull a terrifying prank. They all dressed up in cult-like robes with terrifying masks, hopped over the fence, and stood near enough for Adina to see them and begin to run inside. Except, Adina never got far, and her brother popped out of nowhere with the most terrifying mask of them all, hands gripping her shoulders as Adina screamed. That was when Adina had heard a series of laughter before a collective gasp took place. Adina turned to see fire ignite upon the bushes. Even when she was clearly upset with her brother for scaring her, as well as ruining her plants (yes, Adina blamed Thomas for her burnt plants), Adina was still happy to have discovered that she was, in fact, a witch. Those gasps turned into panic mutters as everyone tried putting the fires out, but after that, Thomas took Adina out to celebrate, and also bought her new plants to make up for the ones she lost.
