Plant Some Seeds
"Clarisse Mosse, you'll be partnered with... Falentra Black."
Clarisse snapped back to the lesson, hearing her name mentioned. When the Professor had announced they would be working with partners, she hadn't been elated, considering there were many bad students she could be partnered with, but she tried her best to hope for someone capable. After all, last time she had been with someone who had tried to eat the plant they had been dealing with - surely she could be paired with someone better than that? Who had the Professor just called out?
Falentra Black... That was some Slytherin in her lesson, but that was about all she knew about the girl. Up to this point in the year, they hadn't had much chance to talk, so the Ravenclaw really hadn't formed any sort of opinion, choosing to reserve judgement before she met the girl. At the very least, Falentra's name didn't stand out as someone who exceptional in the wrong sort of way, which had to be a good sign. She gave a smile to the girl approaching and shifted over so there was space for both of them to gather around the planter, awaiting their next instructions.
"Hello," she smiled, speaking softly as the professor explained they would be planting something - she had given the Latin name for the plant so Clarisse wasn't certain what it was, "I'm Clarisse. It's nice to be your partner." She smiled awkwardly, focusing her attention on the planter in front of her. A fairly large square tub that sat neatly on the workbench, everything they would possibly need was piled into it. Small spades joined forks, shears and watering cans, while packs of fertiliser and soil were dotted about throughout the greenhouse. There was more than they would need, Clarisse realised, after she had read the labels on several packets of animal dung. Time to see if they had been paying attention.
The word go was given and to avoid having to make more small talk, Clarisse began to clear out the planter, forming a rising pile on the side so they would have space to fill it up with soil.
Her attention wasn't really on this. Although she liked Herbology, mainly due to the fact that her mother was a magical botanist at home and she had spent enough time tending to plants that it had become fun and easy to her, her interest waned in these more practical sessions. Now, if they had a lesson explaining the nature of magic plants - in terms of the very magic - and all those little complicated questions were answered... Clarisse wasn't certain she would understand the answers, but the magic was what interested her. Planting was just something vaguely enjoyable to do and let her brain run wild.
Clarisse let herself be silent in working beside her partner, waiting for her to say something first. Other than the usual "What are we even planting, anyway?"
After all, that seemed like a glaring fact that she needed to know before she could get anything done. Flipping her braid over her shoulder and back down her back, she pulled on those thick gloves that made it impossible to get anything done. She'd get the soil out - if only she knew what sort they would need for whatever it was they were meant to planting.
