breaking the ice (cream)
Ice cream in early September is like going to the beach on a rainy day. No one does it, since most would be shopping for school supplies, except that one clever misfit and that's why Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour was practically empty that foggy day. There were about four people, including herself when she walked in. The ice cream lady seemed bored with the lack of customers, but looked up when Lexie entered. She went to the counter and looked over the menu, craving something fruity. She was tired from all the shopping she had done for her wand, books, clothes and she even looked over the pet shop. After all, when did she get to go to Diagon Alley, a street filled with magical shops and people? Lexie finally decided on a berry delight, a waffle dish filled with a berry ice cream of choice (she chose raspberry) and a few tasty toppings.
Awaiting her dessert, she thought about her muggle father, probably at the book store. The magical history textbooks fascinated him, being a professor. He had told her to go get something to eat, since textbooks of any kind bored her to death. Back in reality, Lexie looked around the mostly empty shop, till her eyes stopped at a girl about her age. She had blonde hair, blue eyes and fair skin, and Lexie felt an urge to talk to her. She was most likely a witch, and probably going to be a first year this school year. Lexie told the ice cream lady she was going to change her seat, took a deep breath, and walked over to the girl. "Hi, do you mind if I sit here?"

Daphne had to be at the train station in about 2-3 hours, having came to Diagon Alley with her mother and brother, Ryuu. She had already gotten all of her supplies which her mother was holding for her while her brother was off somewhere with his friends. Using the extra money that her mother had given her, she went to the ice cream parlor, looking around curiously. She couldn't even pronounce the name of it! Maybe she should've tried to buy a pet instead.. Daphne looked over the choices and decided on The Candy Connoisseur. Her mother would never approve of such a large ice cream order: cotton candy flavored ice cream with candied nuts, hunks of caramel, rods of chocolate biscuit, drizzles of fruity syrup, bits of sugar crystal and a couple of sugared berries. As she went to sit down at a table, she wondered if she would be able to eat the entire thing.. It was then that a rather tall girl approached her, Daphne looking up curiously. "Oh! I'm sorry, not at all." She said while gesturing to the seat, "My name is Daphne! And I'm sorry if that sounds rude but you sure are tall. In a good way! You live in England too, right? I'm from Windsor."

Lexie sat down, glad that the girl who introduced herself as Daphne let her sit with her. It would've been majorly awkward if she said no, and Lexie's already small ego would've taken a hit. Daphne said she was from England, Windsor in specific and Lexie smiled as feelings of nostalgia settled in. "Oh, I've visited Windsor, it's really pretty! I live in Oxford, it's kind of close." Lexie had only visited once, but she was infatuated with the beautiful city, especially the view of the River Thames.
The ice cream lady came up to the table and placed her ice cream down, and Lexie joyfully put a scoop in her mouth. It was delicious, with just the right amount of sweetness to tart. She looked at what Daphne had ordered, it was a huge dessert with loads of toppings. Though it looked good, she wondered Daphne would be able to finish it, but focused back on her own dessert, before asking, "So, do you go to Hogwarts? I'm starting there as a first year this fall."
Daphne didn't have any school supplies with her, but neither did Lexie, since her father was carrying it for her. She filled her mouth with another scoop of ice cream and waited for Daphne's answer.

"Oh my goodness I've always wanted to go to Oxford!" Daphne leaned forward on the table, excitement in her eyes. She was trying to stop the nerves of going to Hogwarts for the first time, she didn't want to stress the entire day considering by the time everyone would arrive at Hogwarts, it'd be nighttime. She may as well keep herself busy with making friends and eating treats! "Specifically the museums and like-the castles. Well I guess there's castles everywhere in England." Daphne laughed, the ice cream lady putting both of their orders down after a moment. She licked her lips in delight, having never saw something like this before. Daphne took a bite, most of the spoon getting more toppings than ice cream. "Mmm! Yes, I'm a first year too! It's my older brother's, Ryuu's last year at Hogwarts though. He's a Hufflepuff, I hope that I'm one too." She really didn't want to be anything else, of course she wouldn't say that in case it sounded offense. "Any house that you wanna be in? People always say Slytherin is bad but I think that's a pretty mean thing to say. All houses have their good and bad, right?"

Lexie beamed with pride when Daphne complimented her home town, and told her, "If you ever visit, you should check out the museums! All the sights are great though!"
"Hufflepuff? Cool! I thought Slytherin was pretty cool, but I'm not sure what house I'll be sorted into. I'm a bit new to the whole magical wold thing." Lexie wished she had siblings that were magical too, since it would've made the whole Hogwarts process easier. She had no idea what Hogwarts would be like, but Lexie wasn't one to stress about the future.
She got lost in her dessert for a bit, digging into the sweet thing, until she realized she had company. "So, are you into Duelling or Quidditch or something?" Lexie smiled as she said the word "Quidditch". Earlier in the day, she had browsed the brooms but nearly fainted at the price. Most of the shops were very cool though, especially the prank shop. She had begged her father to let her buy a pet from the Menagerie, but he had refused. If she ever came back, she promised herself she would buy herself an owl or even a toad.
Glancing down at her plate, Lexie sighed. "Ugh. I regret eating that so fast. How's your dessert?"

"I definitely will! I love learning about new things and seeing it too. One day I plan to explore all the world and become a famous Magizoologist-just like Luna Lovegood did! I'm sure there's more magical creatures out there to be discovered." Daphne said proudly while continuing to eat her large bowl of ice cream. It took a little longer to eat considering how big it was but she finished it a bit after Lexie was done with hers. "I do think I like Quidditch! I'm not a very athletic person but Quidditch really sounds fun! You're on a broom which I'm sure already feels like you're flying! Sounds pretty intense, but fun too don't you agree?" She grinned and then pushed her empty bowl to the side, one hand on her stomach. "Me too! My mom says that the Hogwarts Express leaves the station at 11am on the dot.." Only about an hour had passed, making it about 9am now. "If you're not busy, there still is a lot of time to spare. We can walk around Diagon Alley, if you want. I mean, if your parents let you at least!" Daphne offered with a big smile on her face.
