Emma escorted herself down to the Great Lake, her wand bouncing absentmindedly inside of her blue-outlined robes. She loved the sense of protection it gave her, she would have never felt the same at home, though why was eleven the special age? Ten seemed much more rational, after all, you had just hit double digits, it was substantially just as great as a sweet sixteen.
It felt delightful to go to the Lake by herself just to think, not to swim, nor to study the humongous textbooks, just to think. She remembered coming across the lake just previous months ago reluctantly. As she looked she didn't regret making the choice, maybe her father did know what he had spoken about, Hogwarts was magnificent.
The wind was subtle and fine, though once in a while it picked up its speed. The water ruffled itself consistently as she looked up to the school that was more of a castle in her opinion. It was amazing to see the elements of the earth interact so peacefully with each other.
As the brunette drew her wand, it was not to attack, it was to practice to herself. There had been no one to hit, nor to watch her fail. It was astounding, yet unusual. Which one, she pondered with herself, twirling the white wand in between her fingers. Or, what's a spell that won't get me into trouble?
"Bullarum Immortalem," the Ravenclaw said recalling the newest spell she had learned. She watched as multiple bubbles spurred from her wand. An almost perfect spell if she hadn't been distracted by the upcoming footsteps in her direction. She shook her wand to stop the flow and spun her head in the direction of the noise.
"Can I help you?" She asked, her voice kind and airy.

Jo had been spending a lot of time in the library. It was a little overwhelming. The sheer amount of knowledge available to her, that is. So many spells, famous duels, potions, and even the names of famous witches and wizards throughout history. She felt a deep hunger to absorb as much of it as possible. Maybe something buried in those tomes would give her an edge up on the people in her year. But all of the reading was starting to make her eyes hurt. It was so hard to properly coordinate an outfit with glasses, so she decided to not risk needing them and take a little break.
The lake was beautiful. Jo always felt called to water, and the great lake was called that for a reason. A perfect place to enjoy all the majesty Hogwarts had to offer. But as she approached she noticed that somebody had beat her to her chosen refuge. Most people she had met in this castle had been exhausting. Hopefully this person would change that pattern.
She had to admit, the bubbles coming from the girl's wand were oddly satisfying to watch. The way they just floated around in the air. And the light bouncing from them was kind of pretty. But then the other girl spoke and ruined her enjoyment. "Can I help you?"
Jo scoffed without really realizing it. "I doubt it," she said with a slight smirk. What good would some random girl playing with bubbles be to her? She was a Bryan. She had everything she could ever need already. Besides the spot she wanted to sit down in. "You are in my spot"

Emma placed a palm on the ground and pushed herself up. There goes my evening, she thought to herself, though she should have spoken. She placed her wand inside of her robes just in case her anger had increased, and it was currently at her peak. With the loss of her house and the making of enemies, she didn't need another one, but she was asking for it.
"Get one thing straight, I'm not happy right now, so you can leave. This is Hogwarts, not a fantasy of your own." She pushed the Ravenclaw hardly with a finger right in the chest and returned her gaze back to the Lake. "Your 'daddy' can't help you here."
Not only had she not been in the mood, she had lost her home, and possibly some of her family if she had been thinking negatively. She had a habit of holding in all of her anger and releasing it on to innocent students at Hogwarts. One thing was for sure inside of her mind. Josephine Bryan was not as innocent as she thought she had been.
The red hair, the same colored eyes, it was all too familiar. "I'm going to guess you're Josephine." She crossed her arms, narrowing eyes. Her father had told her too much about the Bryan family. The uprise and downfall of Bartholomew Bryan, the obsessing over his gambling. How on Earth was she sorted into Ravenclaw? Another thought passed her that should have been spoken out loud."You are in my spot"

"I'm going to guess you're Josephine." Jo titled her head. Almost like a confused dog. Sure, every once in a while somebody knew who she was once she told them her name, but never just out right recognized her like that before. She wasn't sure she liked it. But what made it worse was the tone she said it in. It was indignant, angry. Jo knew she wasn't the best at making friends, but she never remembered running afoul of this particular person. Something fishy was going on here. "That's Jo to you" she corrected as if answering a question in class.
But then it got worse. This girl poked her very smartly. Jo frowned. She then realized she very much disliked strangers touching her. "Your 'daddy' can't help you here." What exactly was she implying? She was very much capable of handling herself, thank you very much. "There is no need to be rude, you know" she chided. "So you know who my father is? Are you a fan of his? He's not normally very keen on autographs. But if you apologize and ask nicely I may be able to convince him to do it just this once." She had once seen a group of fans get very excited. They swarmed her father at a Quidditch game, begging for their brooms to be signed. It was very annoying. "But more importantly, how do you know who I am?"

Emma couldn't endure the girl for a mere five minutes. Why won't she just leave? She thought to herself as she spun in her position to face the Ravenclaw's fiery red hair, irritated to see that she hadn't yet gotten the message yet. "Mkay, Jo," She said flicking her all ten of her fingers, though avoiding eye contact. She dropped her arms to her side, mentally rolling her eyes.
"Autograph?" She scoffed as if she were more superior than him. "Why would I want an autograph from him? He's done illegal things, surely you'd know. You're following right in his footsteps, have you started making bets with students yet?" She crossed her arms instinctively. Easing up her tension, she decided to say something good, well she hoped it was good.
"Look, I've been to a few Quidditch games, I've seen the mobs of idiotic people -" Stay positive, she warned herself. "Your dad isn't a bad Quidditch player, nor a bad guy." Liar, she told herself. "Well, besides the gambling issue." Though before she could continue she had been interrupted, though she was pretty thankful.

"Josephine Bryan, daughter of the man who rose so high, but let the fame get to his head. Did he ever tell you how we lost so much it nearly got him kicked off the Quidditch team? Or how about he quit reluctantly so that the news wouldn't leak out. Believe me, princess. I know." She clicked the front of her toe on to the ground, impatiently."But more importantly, how do you know who I am?"

"Why would I want an autograph from him? He's done illegal things, surely you'd know. You're following right in his footsteps, have you started making bets with students yet?" Jo's confusion was obvious on her face. Illegal? What on earth could she mean? Father always said the Ministry was overly nosy, but he never said anything about breaking the law. What kind of accusation was she trying to make? Jo was certain she was supposed to say something now, but words were getting very hard. "Illegal? What in Merlin's...Footsteps? What do you...making bets? Of course not, gambling is against school rules..." she wasn't aware of how quietly her words were coming out.
But this girl continued. She knew a lot about her family. Well, apparently heard some rather daft rumors. "My father was injured! He was heartbroken over it! He still walks with a cane to this very day! Why are you telling lies about my family?" her mind was reeling. Nobody had ever said such negative things about her father so blatantly to her face. The expression on her face was clearly reflecting the complicated emotions going through her mind. All of which were quickly fading to anger.
"My father is a respected businessman! He would never do anything illegal! What you are saying is a very serious insult to our family!" Jo screamed. Anger felt like a good way to express whatever it was that was going on in her head. Maybe if she yelled enough, all of the confusing thoughts would go away. It made more sense that this rude girl was saying at least. "Do you have any clue what my father would do if such things go back to him?" Truth be told, she didn't exactly know how he handled problems. Only that he frequently said that he had "ways of solving problems permanently" whatever that meant. But her curiosity was starting to compete with her anger. She at least had to know what the other girl was talking about.

Heartbroken, Emma thought to herself. That's what she calls it. After all, she had gotten all her juicy information from her father, himself. Well, that and the stories involving the family inside of the Daily Prophet who's pages were filled with mostly false stories.
"Believe me," she said, her voice tighter than ever. "I know what I'm talking about. He'd been playing with that injury for a while, don't you think he would have stepped down at the diagnosis of the injury? It could have gotten worse, wouldn't he have known that?" She asked cunningly, her arms still extremely stiff, tightening her back as she increased her grip around her waist as she played with her mind.
She had been asking a lot of questions, but it was all worth it to make others crack, and in this case, perhaps spill family secrets. "He must be been dedicated." She scoffed putting a tremendous emphasis on her very last word.
Bartholomew Bryan was a sinner. He would go to such extreme measures to hypnotize his own daughter, hypnotizing her moderating innocent mind. Was a cane necessary, or even worse, about his very own family? He was cunning no doubt, and dangerously secretive.
"Sorry if you can't handle the truth, I know it's a lot to bare, but if your father's lying straight to your face, who can you really trust?" Emma said calmly, despite the Ravenclaw's yells. She released herself from her position and stuffed her hands into her robe's pockets. Using her right hand, she drew a white tinted wand from her robes and hiding it behind her back. Just in case. She thought to herself, examining Josephine's previous tone.

Jo's breathing grew heavy. Her shaking fists were clinched at her side. Her mouth was trembling and clinched shut. A lot of powerful emotions ran through the small girl's body. Not all of which she new how to handle properly. As her face grew red, so too did her temper. The confusion just made everything worse. This was all lies and slander. But yet, something was eating at her, deep in her mind.
"Sorry if you can't handle the truth, I know it's a lot to bare, but if your father's lying straight to your face, who can you really trust?" Why would she still be saying these things? What did talking ill of the Bryan family accomplish? Father had mentioned that there were a lot of people who were jealous of his money and success. Was this what he meant? She was mentally aware of her wand in her pocket, but she couldn't think of any spell that would properly show her frustration. That too frustrated her. She needed to know more. Her current knowledge wasn't enough.
"Stop it!" She screamed. "I don't know where you heard of this, but it is wrong! These are lies!" The explosion was feeling good. It released a lot of pressure building up inside. Nobody had ever had the guts to make such accusations about the Bryan family to the heir's face. She wanted to make sure it wouldn't happen again. "I will trust Daddy, not some lying...troll!" she said and without thinking, firmly pushed the older girl with both hands. Logic and reason had flown the coop like a hungry owl.

As Emma drew her wand, she didn't attend on using it. She ran a mental scan of all the spells she could inflict on to her without causing any noticeable damage. She kept a straight face as the Ravenclaw screamed directly into her face. Looking down at her hands, breaking eye contact, surely she didn't have the guts to punch her.
"Avoiding questions are you?" She asked slyly after the demanding of her silence, twirling the wand between her fingers. She looked into the eyes of the girl, whose face was almost as red as her hair. The human body was capable of magnificent things. Was her blood boiling, or perhaps blood had been rising to her face, whatever it was, she had no clue.
For Merlin's sake, she's in public. I'd never called my dad 'daddy'. She shrugged merely after taking a step back and sighing. "It's easy to tell a false story from a true story, Josephine, have you ever tried reading the prophet -" or perhaps reading in general "- it is filled with pleasant stor-"
The brunette had been interrupted with both hands, knocking her to the ground. Standing up with an inpatient or either angry face, she exhaled loudly. "You prefer tickling or dancing?" She asked randomly looking at the girl, her grip around her wand tightening dangerously. She deserves it.

Jo felt powerful watching the older girl fall to the ground. She felt triumphant. She had just conquered her enemy. Pushing the lying prat down to where she belongs. Impressing her will on her foe. It was pleasing in a very deep, primal way. Maybe the liar had learned her lesson. Jo smirked like a cat playing with its food.
But then Emma stood up. Her smirk quickly faded. It seemed as if this confrontation was not over. That was bad. Jo didn't have any follow through. She hadn't planned past that step. She took a couple steps back. Out of retaliation range she hoped. She had assumed that shove would have sent the message. It now seemed like she only escalated it.
"You prefer tickling or dancing?" Jo blinked. What did she mean by that? What an odd question to ask at such a time. But it seemed like an obvious question to her. She HATED being tickled. Hated most people touching her to be honest. But she remembered once when she was little, her cousins held her down and tickled her until she screamed. It was terrible. Mum always said dancing could be very fun. Jo chose not to answer the question. Whatever game was being played she wanted no part of it. "What, tired of lying to me? Trying to change the subject to earn some mercy?"
