Hexwizard Task 1: Hogwarts v Koldovstoretz

The rounds would go on and Alan would allow himself to be just a little bit nervous about this game and its outcome. However looking at his team, of which many were his friends, he couldn't help but feel pride and looked over to the other side of the game field with renewed determination. He would just hope that his actions were helping his own team enough.

Koldovstoretz’s chance at winning just seemed to be getting smaller. Most of Kamila’s team was dead, while almost the entire Hogwarts team was still standing. Kamila was losing hope that Koldovstoretz was going to win, but there was still always a chance. Kamila concentrated on her next move. She wouldn’t let herself fail. She couldn’t.

The longer Opeila stayed out of reach of the other players, the more she calmed down, the stronger she felt again. Maybe it had something to do with one of her own teammates too, she wasn't quite sure what skills came with their roles again.

But slowly the anxiety vanished and... well, if she got in reach again, she wouldn't mind attacking again either.

The outsides of Irina’s vision were completely black, her head was pounding, and her legs were shaking. She was so close to being knocked out, so close, yet she was hanging on by a thread. There wasn’t much else she could do for her team at this point except take up a piece of the game board. Irina moved closer to all the Hogwartians and couldn’t even find it in herself to say anything, she knew her time on the chess board was coming to an end. Attempting to turn to her team captain Rodion, she whispered “I’m sorry” to his direction in Russian. Irina wanted to go out swinging, but her time was reaching an unfortunate end and she was well out of energy.

Bloom was given another chance to try and hit another person. She really wanted to do right by the team because lately, she was either missing the opponent or the blast backfired and hit her back-- which was the worst feeling in the world. Bloom knew she had to try again. She took a deep breath and attacked, feeling extremely confident. Unfortunately, however, her opponent had moved and she missed by means of their placement on the chess board. This was definitely a tricky game.

Kings

Rodion (@Aurora Ranvier) was never going to give up, well not of their free will and volition. With Fyodor, Oksana, Rosella and Nikolai all down and in a worrisome state there was little that could be done that would allow him to end this with his dignity intact unless he fought to the very end.

@Dealla Prince was bolstering the violent potential of her allies. There was little else to do at this very moment unless she wanted to take an audacious risk that might cost the girl her health and pride in front of thousands of spectators.

Rooks

Toss Aside: exchanges places with an adjacent piece. Cannot be done on the diagonal. This involves a contested strength check and on success the Castle exchanges places with another piece. No contested strength is necessary of the piece is allies/wiling. This is done on the action phase which is before the movement phase which means that a statement movement action by an opponent might be impossible (and therefore lost), however the piece will attempt to move the same spaces in the same direction as previously declared.

Rooks were rare at this point, chariot driven defenders Percival and Oksana were both unconscious. Maksim Levin (@Monica Evans) was waning in strength, his defense of the champion Rodion would likely be his last. and that was not the last move he wanted to make as he, like the King did nothing.

@Howard White, he Hogwarts champion was standing in the backlines as the rest of his team stood on the forefront. Their line of defense was still intact and from the relative safety of the backlines he would watch the scenario play out.

No, he was not going to be able to just stand there and do nothing. This was boring! This was embarrassing! Moving quickly, Howard would clasp his hands around the littlest member of the Hexwizard Team, Serena and lift her up. The part-goblin was very lightweight and he would swap places with her. This change in the board state gave Serena a direct line of fire for Irina, their most powerful remaining opponent piece.

Howard performed Toss Aside on Serena

Bishop

Invocation: Capable of blasting a target at a distance. This can move through allied (but not enemy) spaces on a diagonal. Arcane Power x 25.

Intercession: Using their Wisdom, they are able to shield a single target against an attack. The shielded target must be adjacent. They would protect the target for Wisdom x 10. This would take priority over any other attacks done. Remains on a target until it is exhausted. Can be maintained on more than one target. Does not stack.

@Alan Vanes was still standing, for the most part unmolested by the melee. A 'holy man' still, he did not see the need to heal or shield an ally as he saw opportunity in Irina. Irina was nearest him and it was very possible that she was going to try to take a chunk out of him (and that was the case). However, escape was not the plan, destruction was. if they ended Irina where she stood, then Koldovstoretz would not have a front line to threaten Hogwarts with any longer.

Alan would miss the mark. It was a frustration truly, as well as a potentially regrettable vent for Alan as they were in a prime location to be slain by the white knight.

Serena Towers would find herself temporarily lifted by strong manly hands (sorry Howie). She was now standing on the other side of Howard and she was in the direct line of sight for Irina. Irina was dangerously close to Alan and Alan had just whiffed his shot. She had a few choices, most of them non-violent but she chose in this moment violence.

The girl was hardly standing, and Serena's opportunistic attack would be all that it took to take the failing girl down, but not before she tried to take Alan Vanes with her.

Irina is KO

Kamila Yavlinsky (@Marina Oriel) was doing to support Rodion to the end. They would try to bolster the champion, help him last a little bit longer. Seeing as Bloom and Alan both were more a danger to themselves than others, she could perhaps hope that their misfortune was contagious and the rest of the team would be afflicted.

Slayer: The Knight attacks a target adjacent to themselves. Strength x 50, plus 10% of the total damage done for three rounds (considered bleeding). This cannot critically hit.

Irina Afanasyeva (@Lavinia cloven) was barely standing, she was hanging on by barely a thread. She was rather certain that this would be the end for her, if anything hit she would not make it but she needed to hold on a little longer not just for her sake but for her school and her friends. They had lost so much these past years and it was for the most part brushed off as a tragic event that would be forgotten or barely brought up. Yet these 'unfortunate' events were remarkable in her existence and she needed to show her determination.

She would fall, slain by a Bishop that came out of seemingly nowhere (Toss Aside). She would try to take Alan Vanes, the nearest Bishop with her after she avoided his attack and it blew up in his literal face.

It would have been hard on her best day to hit Alan, he was a nimble guy in spite of his goofy appearance. She would go down fighting.

@Bloom Silverton prepared herself to cast Eagle Eye in front of her if one of the Koldovstoretz students moved into range. None did, so she would remain where she was with Serena to her back amazingly not stabbing it, Percival unconscious at her feet and Howard almost at her side.

Opeila Winters also prepared herself to cast Eagle Eye if anyone came into range of her. None did. So she would remain there unmoving, basking in King Dee's powerful regal aura.

Queen

Rebuke: An aura effect based on the queen's Arcane Power. 10 x Arcane Power damage done to all adjacent enemy (does not effect allies) pieces. This lasts for 3 rounds as a passive effect, meaning it costs an action to initiate and then this effect endures for the next 3 rounds, so if it was cast on round one, it would turn OFF at the end of round 4. You can cast other actions while Rebuke is in effect.

Queen @Pericles Dralt, a phrase nobody ever expected to say, would likely be the apple of their father's eye for the prestige their role in the Hexwizard Tournament has brought their distinguished family. He just needed to end strong.

A terrible darkness would start to roll off the Ravenclaw youth as he made it dangerous for the opposition to invade their safe cluster.

One more down, Alan was hurt but not crippled. While the odds were stacked against Koldovstoretz they were holding their own. That is until the queen went on the move and the movement phase shifted the board state dangerously. Pericles' aura if it came into contact with an enemy space might spell doom for any unfortunate enough as to be in the wrong place at the worst time. Pericles would move on the diagonal one space and it would bring him adjacent to Maksim. Maksim would breathe in the terrible fumes and feel weakened by Peri's presence. It was semi normal, ask Xailah... but this was different, it hurt a lot more.

Right, who was next? Was she going to shield Bloom again? Somehow revive Percival? Throw a heal towards a random stranger in the audience this time? Her healer internship was clearly paying off in this game. What she did not expect, however, was being lifted when Howard asked her to switch positions. She sort of just figured she would move with her feet.

"Wh-" Serena started, blinking as she was lifted and moved as though she was a feather. She blinked, noticing Howard now on the other side of her. Was she that light? Was he that strong? Right. Tossing people was his whole thing. As a rook, not because he was strong. Not that he wasn't strong. Maybe she was just too light. At least he had warned her though! Some people seemed to just randomly lift her up. Plus, he only threw her one unit away - unlike the frickin' part-giant in the crowd who chose to yeet her randomly one day as far as he could with zero warning.

The Hufflepuff twitched her nose, moving it right and left quickly. Right, why were they switching? Oh, maybe he wanted her to be closer to Percival, who was on the ground? Could she even revive him? She had no idea.

Looking around, she spotted Alan missing their knight. Dang it. The knight stood in dangerous proximity to the rest of them, readying her attack. They had to stop her from destroying the front line. Wait- It then dawned on her that she was diagonal to the same knight. She looked at Howard, who gave her the order she had suspected. Right. She could do this. This was what she had trained for. The sooner they succeeded, the sooner it was over. She took a deep breath as she steadied herself, turning her attention to Irina.

"My turn," She stated as she turned the book to a new page - one that she had not yet had the chance to try out. Without hesitation, she cast Invocation on her, with a muttering of "I'm sorry," as she watched it hit her, a pang of guilt hitting her that she tried to dismiss. The White Knight might not have even heard her, she had no idea. It did not stop her from feeling bad. Unfortunately, the knight was an obstacle in the way of their success and they needed to end this as soon as possible.

Howard surveyed the battlefield before him and thats when the inspiration would hit. Irina had moved in next to Alan and although Howard's bestie had done his best to take the White Knight down, he had failed. No one else was in position to help! Fortunately his Bishop would be able to avoid the retaliation from Irina, but something more had to be done. "Serena!" The dhampir called out to his favorite Huffle half-y. "We need to switch...like now!" Howard didn't hesitate. He wrapped both hand around Serena and swung her around so that they could trade places on the board. Finally! He had performed an action and one that would have devastating effects! "Blast her! Now!" Of course Serena would apologize in the middle of a battle, but her spell landed nonetheless. With a sizzle and crack the White Knight would finally fall!

Players would begin to shift and that left Howard with one final idea. It was time for his mighty Queen to let it all loose! "Peri! Go for it, mate!" The ravenclaw would cast the spell and soon a damaging aura would begin to fill the space around him. A little fly by the name of Maksim would be caught in the spiders web. Koldov only had three players left and another almost out. Could it be that Howard and the Hogwarts gang may just be able to pull this off. It was tie to find out.

The universe was not on his side, ever. How could someone be this unlucky in everything. He failed to beat Hogwarts twice, not only in duels but also in swimming for merlin sake. Everything went wrong in just a blink of an eye, as expected, Irina was the next to go down and now there were three left. Him, Maksim, and Kamila. He was awfully quiet. His blood was boiling, he could cook eggs in one second.
