Hexwizard Task 1: Hogwarts v Koldovstoretz

Opeila moved back, away, put of reach. What was going on? When had it gone wrong? Where it started off as a game, a new challenge, Opeila now felt her heart hammering against her chest.
Being hit by spells, casting spells was one thing, another was literally being struck in a game of chess. Her body hurt. Was anything broken? Definitely bleeding at least.
This didn't feel like a game anymore, it felt like Fight Club all over again and the young Slytherin was fighting an urge to run away, just like she had then.

Irina was failing her team. Sure, she finally knocked out the first Hogwarts member, but her teammates were lying unconscious on the floor, and she was next. Irina had spent too much time defending her honor and talking to the awful journalist that she periodically forgot the rest of her team. Noting the two comments from those awful Hogwartians (Dealla and Pericles) Irina rolled her eyes before sending the final blow to another member. Irina was there for war, but as she moved backwards and received another hit, her vision started to fade. Her legs were completely numb and her head was pounding. One small tap would send her out of this task. Irina needed to help her team, so focusing on that she regathered her strength and set out to not fail them.

Kings

Regal Aura: Scaling from Wisdom, for every 5 points in wisdom, the King exudes a regal aura on command. Any piece adjacent (the King is not adjacent to themselves) to the King gains a +1 (per 5 of wisdom) to all of their stats except stamina. This does not differentiate between friend and foe. Serves as their action for the round. This remains 'active' until the King decides to 'turn it off' which is a free action. Only turning on the Regal Aura costs an action.

Hide Away: The King must save himself, he hides behind an adjacent allied piece and takes half damage (the piece they are hiding behind also takes half damage). Damage is not healing or buffs, it is just damage. Evasion here would be a separate roll for both the King (for their half) and the piece that they are hiding behind. This action occurs during the action phase which is before the movement phase, but has priority (meaning it happens before attacks, so an attack may not be possible or may be redirected towards another piece that is now "in the way.") The space is chosen by the King and must be adjacent to an allied piece. If the space is occupied, there would be a contested strength check to determine who will remain in this space unless the adjacent piece is an ally in which case a contested check is not needed. This is action can be done in addition to the movement phase.

Rodion (@Aurora Ranvier) had suffered innumerable losses which had likely effected his morale as they took on the insurmountable force that appeared to be Hogwarts. He needed to survive and wait for them to make a mistake. He would duck behind Maksim.

@Dealla Prince did not need to hide in the same way, she was not a vulnerable champion that was likely be to targeted. She would rather recast Regal Aura and an insidious fog would start to roll off of her. This strange, eerie fog would bolster her allies, making them stronger and more dangerous.

Rapid Defense: They defend another allied piece as their primary action. This action takes place before the movement phase and takes priority in the action phase over attacks made against a specified piece. Similar to defending in Quidditch where a user blocks an oncoming attack made by a specific target, attacks made against this piece would be relegated to this piece (regardless of the direction of attack). If another piece attempts to land in the space that the defender chose (a specific, declared space adjacent to the chosen target), a strength check is rolled. This piece has advantage on this roll. This action does not consume the pieces movement for the round, they can still move, but their movement is considered to be the last movement in the round according to the action stack.

@Howard White, one of the most mobile pieces on the board was staying out of the melee in contrast with his likely inclinations. He was watching his friends fight the 'good' fight and he had to hope for the best and regret their losses. They were fighting for him and here he was standing in the back away from all of the action.

Meanwhile, Maksim (@Monica Evans) would rush over to Irina's defense. The choice risky considering if either he, Irina or Rodion is targeted, Rodion was imperiled. It was also very unexpected, perhaps their unique choices would play to their advantage.

Benediction: Using their Stamina they are able to bestow healing upon an allied target. Stamina x 20. The target must be adjacent and on a diagonal.

Invocation: Capable of blasting a target at a distance. This can move through allied (but not enemy) spaces on a diagonal. Arcane Power x 25.

@Alan Vanes needed to heal Opeila, she was barely standing. If she was targeted again, there was a good chance that she would go down. Hopefully, taking this moment to heal would not be a mistake and they would have the chance to fortify their forces.

Like Pericles, he would never claim to be into her brother while making moves on her crush. Right? Well... probably, Howard was cute in a dangerous way but he was also a muggleborn.

Koldovstoretz had to act aggressively or they were going to lose everything. they did not bother to heal, they were out for blood. Kamila (@Marina Oriel) would look to Opeila and make her attack. The girl was almost down and if she could finish her off, then they could get their nubers a bit more even again.

Fyodor (@Maggie Hawkins) would look over to Bloom, the girl had been more a menace to herself than to their team, however if they were not careful if she were to land a blow on any of them, she would probably take them out. This was their best chance to end her. they needed to take it.

She would try and she would miss. It was a struggle to land a blow on the much older teen but she was the most vulnerable target in range. Her accursed luck aside, she was still holding her own.

Eagle Eye: Capable of targeting someone either on the diagonal or in a straight line up to 3 squares. Cannot target through enemy or allied squares. 50 x Stamina.

Koldovstortz had only one knight remaining, Irina (@Lavinia cloven). She would have tried to take out anyone that made the mistake of ambling in range. However none of their enemies did. they were too busy trying to heal back up. none of them took any risks

@Opeila Winters would also look around and attempt to see if there was anyone within range of her eagle eye. If they had made the likely fatal error, she would have struck but none did. They were on the offense, and while they attempted to heal, she would need to survive a little longer.

It would hit the Bishop squarely and might even send him reeling, but it would not be enough to take the boy out. He would need to gain his wind yet again and prepare himself to take her down before she took him out.

Queens

Mistress' (or Master's) Wrath: A ranged attack that can go in any direction the Queen can move. It cannot move through allied/enemy squares. A blast of arcane energy can be felt across the board. Arcane Power x 50. However, this attack is done at disadvantage and can only target 1 target.

@Pericles Dralt was targeting Irina, the white knight. A hard hit on the girl and she would be taken down, better yet... Maksim was nearby, if he was able to spell spread his attack into Maksim, their final Rook, they would have destroyed their defensive line.

Peri would miss his mark, the dangerous girl would live on much to his dismay. The school was holding its own better against Hogwarts better than anyone could have anticipated. he would not expect but he would also not forfeit an opportunity to take on their champion, even if for meager damages. It was something in this war of attrition.

Fydor would be hit hard in the assault, the overwhelming discharge of dark magic would overwhelm them. He would try to keep stranding, even it it was just for a little longer but he would find himself incapable as his legs wobbled and finally gave out beneath him and he came crashing down onto the tiles. Howard regained his composure from his blunder the round before. Stay calm, stay focused and carry on. He would command his Bishops the unleash their healing powers on their injuries comrades and then turned his eye towards the remaining Koldovtoretz combatants. As much as he wanted to diss them, he had to admit that the younger students had put up one hell of a fight. Hogwarts had the upper hand, but it was in no way gained easily. Howard's teammates had taken a beating of their own and they had even had to sacrifice Percival to stay in the fight. With focus they could see this thing through to the end, but it would take all they had to do so.

"Peri! Now!" Howard commanded his dark queen and an unholy blast of dark energy would soon rocket across the board. It's intended target, Irina, would dodge. This girl was beaten to a pulp, but would not go down without one hell of a fight. However, where that failed, Peri's superior casting would not as the spell bounced to Fyodor and even grazed their king, Rodion. A warning of what was to come. "Bloom! Take him out!" Their bishop was weakened as as Bloom caught them with another blast it would prove too much. Another Koldov down. Only four more to go.

"Regroup!" Howard called back his team and they prepared for the next go.

XXXThe easiest target seemed to be Bloom Silverton, who, up until now, had proven to be a danger to herself. Fyodor turned his attention to her; while he was quite against violence, he believed in the beating of Hogwarts to the ground more than anything. Unfortunate for morality police everywhere, awfully fortunate for his school.

Or so he thought. What was supposed to be a hit on Bloom turned into an attack, really, as Howard cried out for his teammate to finish the job. In one fell swoop, Fedya was down, winded, and of no use to his team anymore.

Goddamnit.

The opportunity to play the part of a Queen piece in chess wasn't lost on Pericles. The Ravenclaw was determined to do his team, school, and House proud by playing the part accordingly, pouring the whole of his willpower into each offensive maneuver. On their Champion's mark, he split yet another attack. The narrow leer towards Irina turned into a sour squint as she narrowly evaded unconsciousness. She was a tenacious opponent. But it wasn't a waste, for the spell spread to an unsuspecting fresh target, the enemy bishop. Fyodor couldn't have anticipated two from the Black team turning on him. He was down and out, Pericles affirming as much with a satisfied look that bordered on contemptuousness. "Solid strike, Bloom," he complimented. As he looked towards the king he had clipped, the Ravenclaw readjusted his hold on the gleaming scepter.

Can someone be double exiled? Rodion would know that it’d be possible if he lost the match which had the higher possibility than Mount everest. Another one bit the dust, again, from his own team. Now there were only four people left. Irina, who was on the brink of death, Maksim, Kamila, and him. If searching for a needle in the middle of the ocean is hard, this was harder.

And another one goes down. Maksim perhaps was going to be the only one keeping his team alive. Why did he have any faith in them! They were all terrible!
His only option to 'stay afloat' was keeping his king alive. Using his quick vision, he had noticed a possible attack aiming at Irina. There was no other option, her flew to her side, and defended her. "If our team wasn't this shit... we might have stood a chance of knocking out these brits!" his Russain was harsh, he mostly spoke under his breath, but there was no doubt Irina heard every word.

Dang, they had managed to take another person from the Koldovstoretz team out. This was progress. They were inevitably getting closer to ending. An ending that will hopefully result in Hogwarts' win. Serena turned her focus back onto the game, glad that she was able to get a moment's respite from helping 'the girlfriend' that she had been helping thus far. Her orders were to heal their Queen. The same Queen that had been sending his wrath left, right and centre. A wrath that did not look like fun to be the recipient for. They'd passed the summit and were now leaning towards the end, gaining speed. Dee could feel it, and so could the others, likely; with four of the Koldovstoretz students down and their own team at almost full strength, the outcome seemed clear. Irina appeared to be clinging onto consciousness by pure force of will, and Dee sneered at the girl. In someone else, she might have appreciated the tenacity, but not in this one. Dealla would happily take her down.

Clapping her hands around her staff, Dee slammed the end of it onto the board with a dull, ringing sound, reactivating her regal aura. It rose around her like a mass of swirling, sinister smoke, covering the floor around her and creeping up around anything that came close; hungrily, almost. She couldn't feel its effects, wondered what it felt like for the others, those in her circle.
