Seeking out trouble
The owlery gave a magnificent veiw. It surveyed most of the grounds of Hogwarts. It was also the best spot to keep an eye on any suspicious behaviour happening on the quiditch pitch, and yes being in one of the stands would make an even better spot to watch over the arena but that wasn't always an option.
A tall girl with medium length waves that lay neatly on her back stood resting against the rail, a pair of bright blue binoculars pressed against her eyes. She was currently wearing some dark wash jeans and a maroon knitted jumper with her school robe loosely on her shoulders.
"Just you wait Hufflepuffs, one potentially dangerous move and I'll...."
Without another word the girl lost her footing on the icy ground and slipped landing right on her bottom. Her binoculars sawing over the edge landing with a thump onto the ground. The girl groaned in frustration. Clumsy git She struggled to her feet, her converse not having much grip.
She soon found herself standing again. As she looked down over the edge her stomach plummeted. There on the sodden grass were her binoculars, utterly smashed. No way of spying on that group of Hufflepuffs now. Sighing in defeat the girl turned around and buried her face in her hands.

Bella pushed open the door to the owlery just in time to see a girl leaning over the window and sighing. The backs of her robes were damp and she seemed a bit dishevelled, as if she had just fallen. Before Bella could approach the girl, one of her family owls flew through the window above the girls head, landing in front of Bella with a letter in it's mouth.
"Thanks Merlin" She muttered to the owl. She took the letter from it's mouth and replaced it with one of her own, rubbing his head affectionately before he darted back out of the window.
Turning her attention back to the girl, Bella walked over to were she was stood, following where she had been looking before, seeing a pair of shattered binoculars on the grass below. This confirmed what Bella had thought before as she concluded that the girl must have slipped on the icy floor of the owlery. Bella turned to the girl. She was a little nervous, not having particularly great people skills, but decided that it could never hurt to make a friend.
"I would help you to fix those but ..." Bella gave a small chuckle "I haven't quite got that one down yet. I'm Bella by the way,"

Katrina heard footsteps behind her and slowly raised her head from her hands. A girl with bright blonde hair and sparkling eyes took a letter from an owl before replacing it with another piece of parchment. Katrina watched the owl fly off.
The girl shyly walked over to her. Kat smiled at her as she spoke.
"Oh, it's okay. I'm sure I can buy another pair."
The Ravenclaw sighed and lent her arm on the railing.
"Hopefully..."
She looked at the ground for a moment before speaking again with slightly more confidence.
"I'm Katrina, or Kat, I do prefer Kat." She grinned. Wiping a bit of ice from her shoulder she looked around the owlery for a moment before leaning in clsoer to the girl. Having to bend over a bit because of the obvious height difference.
"Did you hear about what the Hufflepuff Quidditch team have been up to?" Kat whispered. Cold air coming from her mouth in a mist.
She hadn't really spoken about it to anyone in fear they might think she was just fibbing and trying to spread rumors. She had heard from her friend who had heard from her friend who had been told by her brother who been given a note from their friends cousin that had said that they'd apparently heard that a group of Hufflepuffs had been talking about a potion that could speed their brooms up. Now obviously this wasn't hard grounded facts but just to be on the safe side Kat decided to a little investigating.

Bella leaned slightly against the railings as the girl, Kat as she had introduced herself, had spoken. Bella had been, however, taken aback by the sudden change in demeanor and drop in her voice as she asked if Bella had heard about what the Hufflepuff quidditch team had been up to. She had heard a few whispers around the school and in the classrooms indicating to her that the Hufflepuffs were almost suspiciously confident about today's match but she hadn't heard the exact reasonings.
"I heard some things around the school but nothing specifically. Why what have they been up to?" Bella was still a little nervous talking to this new girl, but Kat seemed not to be particularly shy and had immediately started a conversation, albeit a rather whispered one. Bella turned to look towards the pitch that could be seen in the distance but had to squint to make out anything significant. The people flying around on their brooms looked tiny from here and she certainly couldn't tell which team was which.
"I see why you would be needing the binoculars, you really can't see much from up here. Why didn't you just go down and watch the match in the stands?"

"They're apparently planning on cheating!" The girl spoke dramatically.
"I heard the horrific news from a friend." She crossed her arms and frowned.
"But don't take it from me, only time will tell I suppose." She rolled her eyes and huffed.
Kat was quite a strong willed girl and always tried her best to do the right thing, but in this situation she wasn't sure what the right thing was. She felt that telling the professors would be stupid as most of them would think she was lying considering one of the Hufflepuff mottos was loyalty.
"Huh, loyalty, yeah right." She muttered. She looked at the girl a little worriedly. She didn't want her to rat her out and definitely didn't want her to think that Kat was just jealous. She looked at the pitch quickly before turning back. breathing hot air into her hands for a second or two before she raised her head to speak again.
"And, if i try to watch from the stands they'll think i'm stealing their moves and tactics to go and tell the Ravenclaw team." She rolled her eyes. Not directing the roll at the blonde haired girl in front of her but at the Hufflepuffs. Realizing she might've looked rude she quickly threw in a half smile.

Bella was confused at first at what appeared to be rudeness and jealousy coming from the girl, but she realized that it was simply annoyance at another team that would attempt to cheat. Bella returned the half smile, shyly looking back out of the window. The girl she was speaking to seemed very confident, the opposite of how Bella felt. Still she put on the confident persona and turned back to the girl.
"Loyalty doesn't always mean to others I suppose. I guess in a way they're being loyal to themselves?" She phrased it as a question and wanted to appear that she was trying to make a joke as she wasn't very good with conversation starters. She didn't want to appear rude, she was simply trying to make a new friend.
"Do you like Quidditch then? I really love it, I can't wait to be able to try out for the team!" Bella also hoped that she wasn't being intrusive and that the girl wouldn't think she was weird or clingy. She looked back out of the window in an attempt to seem like it is not too big of a deal.
The ice that clung to the top of the window ledge had begun to melt around her arms and the sleeves of her robes were getting a little damp.

"Hmm, i suppose you're right. Pretty clever of you to think of that really." Kat laughed and beamed at the girl. She seemed a little shy but friendly enough. She stood up straight and crossed her arms and furrowed her brows. She still just didn't know what to do. Deciding to brush it off for the time being she listened to the shorter girl chat.
"Oh, i do like it! It's brilliant really, but i'm not too bothered to try out. I prefer watching anyway." She nodded her head and shook it slightly.
"Not just that but to be completely honest balance just isn't my forte... clearly.."
She signaled with her head at her damp shoulders and shoes. She snaked her hand around to her back pocket and pulled out a piece of parchment. The paper had writing messily scrawn across it and ink splodges blacking out some of the words.
"It's a bit messy, my hand writings not the best."
Katrina squinted at the page trying her best to read her own horrible writing.
"It's sort of readable."
"I've been writing about strange things i've headd since i've come to Hogwarts, most of them just rumours but you never know I suppose." The girl spoke.
"I've got a list i've written, it's coming alone quite well, the supposedly dodgy Hufflepuff team are on it. There's been many more mysterious things i've noticed and heard too, and i don't mean funny looking ghosts or walking cuttlery, do you think there's a spell to do that?" The girl thought for a moment before shaking her head. Getting off topic..
"Anyway, would you like me to tell you some? And if you've noticed anything strange? I'm planning on investigating any explainable or curious things..."
It was clear Kat wanted to be a journalist when she grew up. She'd always been told to keep her nose out of things that didn't have to do with herself. But she never listened anyway.

Bella listened as the girl spoke about Quidditch and gave a little laugh when she mentioned her poor balance. It was strange talking to an almost complete stranger for so long. Bella would normally have found an excuse to run away by now, but she had decided a few days back that she was going to start making friends around this place.
She was intrigued when Kat started talking about strange things around Hogwarts. If Bella was being completely honest everything around Hogwarts could be considered strange, but that was magic afterall.
"I suppose somethings around here are a bit strange, but then again I'm sure if you plonked me into the muggle world I'd be a little bamboozled. It'll be a shame if Hufflepuff are cheating, there's nothing worse than people that disgrace the good name of Quidditch,"
"Anyway, would you like me to tell you some?" Kat had asked and Bella had nodded her head enthusiastically. If there was something she could find out about then she was extremely excited to do so. And from the way the girl spoke about her list, there could be magical and non magical things on there that not even Bella had seen before!

Katrina nodded and flicked her head so her hair flew out of her face. She coughed then looked down at the list.
"First being obviously the fact that the Hufflepuffs are apparently suspicious."Kat nodded and 'mm'ed to herself as if stating something as obvious as the sky's blue.
"Two, I heard a kid mention he saw grey scaley things pulling the carriages in which the older kids use to go to the castle, I can prove that with my own eyes there's nothing pulling them but magic."
"Three being that the 4th year Divination professor's suitcase groans and growls, I'm pretty sure that is not suppose to happen, they also seem very nervous when their case makes noises."
Kat finally looked up to see the blondes reaction. There were still more things she had written but Miss Kohl was not planning on exposing all of her findings to a girl she hardly knew. Something fishy was going on at the school and Katrina guess that trusting few was the way to go.
As she tucked the list into her pocket a loud thud errupted the owlery and a bleeding owl landed by the girls feet. It's wing bent and a sad hooting faintly coming from the injured birds beak.
