In Summerrrrr pv Simon Kincaid Closed

Clair felt like the silence was lasting forever, had she offended him? She did not want to do that.
And then she realized that this might be slippery ground for the hufflepuff, he had never had a father figure as far as she knew, he might not want to talk about it. At least she had has a father, and had been loved and cared for by him, Simon had never gotten that. Oops, she felt bad now.
"Are you going to take him to Ho- School with you again this year? Or will he be your Aunt's pet?"
She paused, "have you told your Muggle friends about School? Or do you do like I do and claim to attend a Muggle school?" Clair did not have a huge group of friends, at Hogwarts she had friends, but at Home in Carlisle she had only had Fern as a human friend. Animals had been all she had needed.
It was only really the adults that she had to lie to about what school she attended.
"Skateboarding? If sitting one one and going down hills at a super fast speed counts then yes, but otherwise, no. It seems cool though." At home when Clair had gone into town she and a group of boys would play on a old skateboard and ride down a hill, it was not exactly safe but who said it had to be?

Simon looked over to Clair curiously. Now maybe Rascal seemed to favor Aunt Maggie but that didn't mean he was going to have him stay at home with her. Although, the thought had never crossed his mind before the Ravenclaw brought it up and it really wasn't that crazy of a thought. Rascal would probably like it. Aunt Maggie would probably like it. "Rascal might be the type to want to stay at home," he said as he now considered it briefly. "I think I'll take him and see how it goes. You know, he's not getting younger. Maybe see if I can figure out which he seemed happier with, this Summer or School, and then by Holiday break I can decide whether he returns back with me or not." That seemed pretty logical.

"I don't tell them anything about school and even Aunt Maggie - it's hard. I'm not sure how much she needs to know about the hag invasion or the murders in Hogsmeade or any of that. I worry that she'll take me out of there," he said in a low voice. "They think I'm going to some boarding school off in Scotland and I tell them things I can tell them - like about the girlfriend and all."

They weren't too far from his house and that's where he was heading, so he could pick up his skateboard. He wasn't going to expect Clair here to be some pro by the end of the evening, but maybe she could attempt to get on it without losing her balance. "So how are you doing? Dealing with all this?" he half wanted to distract his friends from her problems and help get her mind off it but he also wanted to know her take on it all. Simon understood why Clair (at least in his mind) couldn't be there to help him figure out the father stuff which was the most stressful thing he had to figure out in his life, but he wanted to be there for his friends whenever they should need him, and this was certainly a stressful time in Clair's life.

"I'm still surprised they even allow pets, I mean is it not hard enough to keep track of like 1500 kids? Let alone their pets running around?" She thought for a moment "Unless it keeps the kids more tame, taking care of their lets instead of fighting." Personally Clair felt like it made more sense to have a let, but if she could she would have all her pets at Hogwarts.
"I said Hi to Cinnamon before being loaded into the car, just for you." She said, "you remember her right? I also took a picture." Clair pulled out her phone, and opened up the App with her photos in it.
She tapped on the picture

"She just Kidded, in early June, so she is milking now!" Clair pointed at the goat's udder in the photo, "She has a nice build too, should do well in the shows. She had to little ladies, not yet named either."
Clair snorted, "yeah, I mean Izzy and Belle never told Mum about any of the things that happened, Could you imagine? Just walk in the house 'hey honey how was this year of school?' 'oh it was good, a bunch of people died, and Hags attacked, ya know the normal' My mum at least would loose it!"
"Thats smart, I claim I go to a Girls' Private school, keeps everyone happy and that way no one finds out about my real school."
She thought for a moment, "I'm sure there is a reason I don't understand as to why I'm here, and even if I do hate Ffion, I don't think I should hate her, it's not her fault that my father told us she was dead. I'd much rather be at Home enjoying my farm life, but it's a good learning curve is it not?" Clair shrugged, "even if I do hate it."

"Such a Ravenclaw way of looking at it," he said with a smirk. He liked it though, it was a wise choice. Even if she didn't agree with it or want to stay there with the grandmother, it was going to build character for Clair and he already liked that she wasn't being super rebellious with it. It seemed she was going to do what she needed to do to get back to that farm.

"I think it would be cool to have a grandparent," he said. He knew different elders at the church and he knew the Crawfords well, which were the couple that Aunt Maggie had purchased her bakery/bookstore from. Still though, he never knew his father's parents obviously, and his mother and Aunt Maggie's parents had passed away years before he was born.

"Any ideas on why you think your father felt the need to do as he had done?" About saying her grandmother had died. He knew Clair thought quite fondly of her father and if he was a great guy, then surely he had his reasoning. Sometimes it was good reasons, sometimes it was bad reasons, sometimes it was nothing but a misunderstanding. Building and maintaining relationships was difficult.

Clair thought for a moment, "I'm not sure, I mean I have always had a grandparent, but I rarely see them. I thought Ffion was dead, and I Know that her husband is out of the picture, so I've got no idea if he is alive for dead, and my Grandparents on my Mum's side are in Canada and one is dead, and the other is alive and doing well. I just don't talk to her much because well, She is so far away and sending a Owl to her window might mess her up a little!" Clair had talked to her Grandmother on her mother's side only a few times, and all the times had been pleasant, the old lady was humorous and kind and liked to spoil her grand daughters as much as most grandmothers do, but she had been unable to due to the cost of shipping things across the sea.
"And the grandparent I now have is a witch to the fullest extent, can't deny it."
She paused, it had been something she had thought about a lot, "I'm not sure, I plan on asking Ffion sometime, I feel like something must have happened. To sever their relationship and for my father to forged a story that not only takes him mother and there fore my Grandmother out of the story but also his brother and therefore my Uncle out of it too. And what surprises me most is the fact that Mum did not know either, so my guess would be that when Dad was in Canada for 'work' he was really getting away from family back here. And so he told Mum that he was a single chile with no parents. That's my guess at least."

"It's quite crazy the secrets that families can hold, huh?" he said as he thought on it. He thought about his own experience and how he thought he could conclude that his mother didn't know about his father being a vampire or there would have never been the incorrect diagnosis of xeroderum pigmentosum for him as a young child.

"I don't know how some can do it, to be honest. - To hold it in like that. I'm not sure I ever could. I mean, your father seemed to be a great man from what you told me so I'm sure he had valid reasons but that's still a lot to hold in. I don't want to do that to my family." He hoped that when he got older, got married, started growing his family of at least twelve kids, that he could always be open and transparent with them.

"What can make this any better?" he asked, wanting to help his friend through this situation of hers. "We could go sightseeing? Get ice cream? I could let you shove me into the River Thames." Sure, he was reaching, but truly he'd do whatever he could to help brighten her spirits. She was his best friend.

The young girl gave a weak smile. "Tis. Our lives are like stories, don't you think? Everyone holds secrets, and I feel like sometimes we forget our own. Hmm, that really would be a great idea for a story." Her face was thoughtful for a moment, Before her brain moved on.

The Ravenclaw nodded, "I know, I've tossed and turned at night wondering how he did. And then I also wonder; what other secrets did he hold?" She paused, "And then I start to think that maybe my father was not so great, what if the stories I was fed were all lies? Spun into the truth by two people now dead. And how can I fact check? My sisters are most likely fed these lies as well." She sighed, "It opens up a pool of doubt, which is something I don't like."

Clair laughed "I think it might be a little cold! Hmm, have you had lunch yet? We could go somewhere and eat" Clair offered, trying to think of something that would be enjoyed by both of them, "And maybe not somewhere that is Vegan, if i may be that picky. I've had enough vegan for my life!" She smiled at her friend.

Her comment about stories made him smile, not because everyone had their secrets, but that she said it would make a great story. It seemed her Ravenclaw mind was at work, thinking of a potential book or wishing it was a plot in a book to read. Ravenclaws were so Ravenclawish.

Simon never did eat very much. He attributed that to his half vampire part and the daily ration of blood that he was required to take. Maybe it satisfied his need for nourishment. Food just seemed like a lot of work - one had to cook it, wait for it, cut it, chew it; and then honestly, he was left still quite unsatisfied. It was why at Hogwarts he often skipped many meal times.

Still, he had to smile when she suggested they go somewhere not vegan. It made him think of his own vegetarian girlfriend. There were some fancy steakhouses in London, and many decent ones nearby, but what came to mind for a nice lunch was The Ivy Kensington Brasserie. "I know a place. Follow me," he said and linked his arm with hers to lead the way.

This wasn't how he pictured his day going but it seemed like it could be a pretty great thing to have Clair so close for the Summer. He just wished it was on better terms for her.

Clair's mind moved away from her father, away from why she was in London and not at home, away from everything other than that moment. As Simon led them down the street Clair thought about how lucky she was to have such a good friend, how lucky she was she had met Simon that night.

As she followed she wondered how Simon was doing, he had mentioned his father had stood him up, and had mention AF visiting, but he had not said anything else really.
"I've met a few people from school, a nice little girl who is going for her first year, very polite and rather sweet as well. I did not know London was so full of ... Y'know, Magic." She lowered her voice slightly for the effect, she was not really worried about anyone over hearing, more likely than not the muggle people would just assume they were joking, out of their minds, or talking about muggle magic.
Which she was fine with. "I mean I know Diagon Ally, but still!" The thought of how many people who attended Hogwarts could be in London amazed Clair, she hoped to meet more by the end of the summer.

It was then that a thought crossed her mind, Simon had mentioned that he had been stood up by his father, "What does Aunt Maggie think of your father standing you up? I think its terribly rude of him, but what does she think?"
She could not see Simon's Aunt getting mad, she seemed far to sweet to be even able to get upset, but maybe something like that could set her off?
