First Ride
September 1st – 11:00am
Georgiana had turned away from the door of the train just seconds before the Hogwarts Express set off for the castle. Something made her shiver, and it wasn't the weather. She was anxious, too much, and it was just that- God, how long had she been dreaming of going to Hogwarts? A long, long time; every day since she had flown her father's broom that time in their house back in Canada. She watched through one of the small windows as the station slowly fell behind her as the express picked up speed.
Now she was on her way. It was strange, it felt both unreal and certain, even though the waiting time seemed to have passed too quickly for it to be happening, she couldn't help but she had no doubt that she would get there. In a couple of hours she would be at the castle, and it was getting shorter and shorter. Why didn't she feel reassured then, if her dream was about to come true?
Maybe it was because of Mike. Ever since they had met, she and Michael had always planned to attend Hogwarts together, and the memory gave her a sense of loneliness. At least a little. Now he was going to Ilvermorny and she was staying on her own. And all the pranks they were supposed to play? And all the rules they were supposed to break? And all the places they were supposed to explore, the adventures? Now all that was about to go up in smoke. And they hadn't even been able to go to Diagon Alley together because her stupid friend was too angry to spend what little time they had left with her before they'd be separated for a whole half of the year until Christmas break.
Until recently the thought had filled her with anger, now it made her a little sad. She tried her best to clear her mind, but a worry soon came to her as she looked around. The few remaining students in the carriage aisles were disappearing one by one into the compartments. She had to find a place before they ran out. She set off, dragging her boot.
She was not slow, and she was strong enough to carry it with considerable speed, but getting on the train at such short notice had its consequences. The first three carriages George walked through were completely full. And in the next carriage the first two compartments had seats set aside. The girl began to grow impatient. Geez, would she end up opening every door on the train?
She wished she had asked Aura to save her a seat. Her boot was getting heavier. A feeling of uncertainty and abandonment came over her. What would she do if there was no room for her?
«Don't be idiotic, you silly, of course there's room for you. They're wizards, they know you need a place, it's not like it's a Muggle train,» she told herself to reassure herself.
Sometimes her own anxiety exasperated her, as her mind rushed to conclusions, without considering logic. She had to remind herself of the probabilities and all the influencing factors in the equation. Her palms were sweating again. If there was room for her then where?
Gia moved on to the next compartment, rather bored with dragging her boot back and forth, but also already a little nervous. Even if she tried to keep her typical expressionless face, her innate skills weren't helping her much, the anger and annoyance showing in the way she was biting the inside of her lower lip. George opened the door to the next compartment and, had she not been so irritated, she would have let out a sigh. It wasn't full at all. Its sole occupant was a girl with wavy dark brown hair.
She didn't even bother to ask if any of the seats were set aside or if she could sit there, she simply entered the compartment, dragging the boot behind her. She tried to lift it up to put it on the luggage rack, but her height didn't help and after struggling for a few seconds she decided to put it down before she lost what little dignity she still had left.
She sat down on the seat by the window and put her feet up on her boot, looking at the girl for just a second. Soon she turned her eyes away from the window, watching the trees move away, not even opening her mouth or nodding at her. A few seconds of calm were enough for her to begin to question her attitude. Maybe it was beyond rude; at least that's what her mother would say. But she was sure Jacob would consider it rude too. She decided to interact a little with her compartment mate, after all it wouldn't hurt to have an ally, or at least know the lay of the land; she needed to know if at least the girl would be of any use. She turned her gaze back to her.
"Hm- hey..." she mumbled "I am George. George Rees." she muttered with a polite but distant half smile.

First Ride
Guinevere was quite honestly enjoying the ride to Hogwarts, the place that she had waited to go to for a year. Who knew a year could be so long when you acually looked forward for something? 365 days could past so fast if you weren't paying attention to the time.
For the millionth time, she wished that Runa and Clarrisa hadn't gone to Ilvermorny. They were such good friends! And they weren't even Muggle-borns! They could have had so much fun together at Hogwarts, but alas, Guinevere was destined to smash down the walls of her comfort zone, grow up and make some wizarding friends. She sighed. Making new friends wasn't really in her system recently, and scooching into one of the half-full compartments seemed like a horribly daunting task to Guinevere.
She leaned on the window of her compartment and stared out into the open plains. They seemed so... plain. Plains were like that, she guessed. Imagining the Hogwarts Express in third person reminded Guinevere of one of her favorite songs: Spring Day by BTS. The train speeding past in the music video had a slight similarity with the train she was riding on currently, and to experience the Kpop Music Video Y/N Vibes, as she had dubbed it, she sang the first few lyrics to herself quietly and once the tune was in her head, she aggressively mouthed the lyrics like what people did in those music videos.
She was so caught up in being in a music video that she almost didn't notice when a curly-haired person walked in, dragging his trunk behind him. Guinevere quickly closed her mouth, straighened her back, and pretended to be staring out the window dramatically. Which, to be fair, she was doing before too. Careful not to seem like she was staring, she twisted her head a little bit to observe the newcomer. He seemed to be having trouble placing his trunk onto the rack, and trying to maintain his dignity whilst doing so. And quite obviously failing.
Evidently noticing this, he stopped trying and placed his trunk on the floor instead. Indeed a smart decision, remarked Guinevere in her head, still overly stressing her neck and eyes by giving a slightly concerning side-eye. The boy sat down across from her, and as his gaze flickered across Guinevere, she quickly diverted her eyes back to the unimpressive scenery outside the window.
Guinevere heard an irritated sigh and then: "Hm- hey...I am George. George Rees." She turned her head to the speaker. She bowed her head once as a sign of respect, and said, "Greetings, I am Guinevere, Guinevere Russetwood," in her best 'I am a sophisticated being that was definitely not mouthing Spring Day like a crazy person' voice.
"How are you on this wonderful spring day...?"
Guinevere could see the surprise in George's eyes. Was she not supposed greet people so stiffly? Was the small bow unnecessary? Or was she assumed to be someone who was rude and didn’t talk to people? She continued.
"May I assist you in placing your trunk on the racks?" Guinevere tried to sound as pleasant as possible, noticing George’s quite irritated aura.

George's eyes widened slightly in surprise at her greeting, completely speechless. Jeez, would she have got into a compartment with a madwoman? She knew that being late for the train had its negative consequences, but she hoped that at least she'd get a normal companion. Who greeted so pompously these days? And with a bow? For a moment she felt quite disturbed. She seemed to expect Guinevere to announce that she was the Duchess of Russetwood, thirteenth in line to assume the throne of England, to justify her greeting. Didn't happen.
"The day's– I mean I'm fine." she said, trying to go back to normal. She blinked three times in order to get back to her senses. For some reason (not precisely mysterious) she was kind of afraid to ask the girl how was she doing.
Had she been the type to blush easily, Gianna's face would have looked like a tomato at Guinevere's words. Fortunately, that was not the case, and now that she had grown accustomed to her pompous accent and irritating posture, her words caused her more anger than embarrassment. So the countess wanted to mock her.
"I appreciate your obliging offer, my esteemed, however I would be more pleased to leave it where it is. I do not mind having things within easy reach, and I fear it will prove difficult to lower the trunk once we put it in place. But thank you for your consideration," she murmured with a grimace that exuded falsehood. Of course, this was Georgiana's intention.
Yes, she had definitely sent politeness down the drain. But whether or not she was royalty, whether or not she had serious insanity issues, whether or not she deserved to be in an asylum, whether or not she was pretty, if the countess dared to humiliate her she would personally see to it that she needed implants for those perfect teeth.

Guinevere reached up to rub her temples at George’s mockery of her offering. And she was just being polite! Did people not teach their children that..? Her mother had basically scolded Guinevere until her eardrums were basically exploding when she greeted one of her friends’ parents with with ‘Hey, how’r you?’.
“Look, I didn’t mean it like that,” said Guinevere exasperatedly. “Forgive me, for I ‘twas not trying to be offending or rude. I simply thought that it would slide around because of a thing called inertia. And if it pleases your ears, I’ll stop talking,” she changed her voice a bit, “politely. And since I definitely saw your unhappiness on being forced to sit with the me, so I’ma just continue with whatever I was doing!” She grabbed a notepad and a quill from her book bag and started writing her first journal entry. It went:
Dear journal.
I have just boarded the Hogwarts Express, and just after I though to have found a nice, quiet, compartment, this other person called George Rees barged in. While I was having one of those music video trances. And so, I tried to maintain my sophisticated-ness, but instead, this George person probably sees me as, what, the fifteenth Heiress of Russetwood House? Dear Fates, why couldn’t they have made a person who didn’t take anything so seriously sit with me?! Anyways, he’s giving me a weird stare now, so bye.
G. L. Russetwood
George was indeed giving her a weird stare, so she felt the need to say, “For your information, I am not flame grilling you in my notepad, don’t worry. And writing can only take up so much time, so do you wanna… chat…? Or something?” She motioned around with her hands a bit. “I know I kinda made a bad first impression, but I would like to make a few friendships and alliances.”.

Well, to be honest Gianna's education had had more to do with three memotechnical tricks to memorize the family tree of the Shafiq family and less to do with how to treat people like human beings. However, you couldn't blame Everly, after all, she herself was extremely polite, and would trust her kids would act faithful to the example they saw at home. But George's temper... well, her fear to humiliation would probably not let her answer otherwise, of course, the minute after she said it, she noticed that had being slightly rude. She thanked God Jacob wasn't there to hear her mock.
Guinevere's next words did calm the storm, and actually made Gia even more conscious about the exaggeration of her words. But height was a sensitive topic.
«Who cares? You didn't think in your own convenience when you answered, you were impulsive. How do you pretend me to get you far with that?» A little voice muttered in her head. Yes, she was right. However, Guinevere's writing get her out of her head soon.
In deed, Gianna was giving a weird stare. Motives? The list could be a little longer than expected. First of all it came the fact that she was writing. Gianna was a writer herself and seeing anyone writing made her automatically curious. Second thing was the big question, is it a journal or a book? No options should be discard, although, if it was a dairy, then for sure the countess was writing about her. Third point, who writes about a person that is sitting in front of themselves? Fourth point, she ended too quick. It was a journal. From there the weird stare.
"For your information, I am not flame grilling you in my notepad."
«Allow me to disagree.» thought Gia, but she kept the feeling to herlself. Either way, it didn't matter much. She listened as the countess spoke.
"I'm fine with the alliance, I guess." she muttered, yet kind of stoic. She noticed that if she actually pretended to have an ally, she should act different too. Time to put the excuse factory back to produce. "And I wasn't planning to be rude... that fast. It's just... height, okay? But I can limit mockery, if you accept we starting over."

Guinevere snapped her notepad shut and looked up at George. "Alright. I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to insult you, I just thought that your trunk could have moved around a lot if it stayed on the floor." Guinevere usually didn't apologize that much. Maybe it wasn't that much of a torture. "And I'll be sure to not comment on your height. I do admit it was a bit careless on my part. Truce?" She gave a little side grin.
"So, what house do you expect to be in? I've always thought I'd be in Ravenclaw or Slytherin; maybe a slim chance of Gryffindor. I'd most definitely never be Hufflepuff, though. Not loyal or kind enough for that." She thought back to all the times she'd done something in blind anger and never thought of the consequences. From what she knew, Hufflepuffs were rational and forgave people and all that jazz.
Guinevere looked back out the window after George had responded. The scene outside was almost entirely pitch black, and it took Guinevere a few moments to realize that they were in a tunnel. Which meant there were mountains near wherever in the world Hogwarts was. Her father and third year brother had never told her, anyways. For all she knew, it was in the middle of a jungle.
The tunnel let away for bright sunlight that made Guinevere turn her head to save her eyeballs. and she looked back towards George.
