A Gift With A Chore for @Simon Kincaid
Simon was a very light eater and it was not unusual for him to skip meals altogether, especially breakfast, since AngelFyre usually skipped it herself in favor of getting in extra dueling practice. This morning would be different, however. Before they had parted for the night the evening before, she had excitedly requested the honour of his presence for breakfast this morning. She had been planning this surprise for him for a while, but honestly, she was not quite sure how, or even if, it would go off as she hoped it would. Even if it turned out to be an epic fail, she knew they would at least both get a laugh out of that. Not everything the pair attempted produced diamonds. Their jitterbug attempt on her birthday was proof positive of that, but AngelFyre could not remember ever laughing so much as she did that night with him.
She was just spooning some fruit compote into her bowl when she felt his hands on her shoulders and a kiss on the top of her head. Her smile appeared immediately and she purred her favorite morning greeting to her night-loving, sun-avoiding dhampir, "Good morning, Sunshine." Obvious? Sure, but it still tickled her 12 year old inner and outer child.
She patted the place next to her, motioning for him to sit, not that she needed to because he would have done it anway, but she was particularly eager this morning to see him. "First things first," and she leaned over and kissed his cheek. "I have a surprise for you, and I hope you are going to like it. I have been working on it for a while, and I think, if it works as I hope it will, you are going to have a lot of fun with it."
Then she reached for the slender package, which was wrapped in blue and gold Christmas themed paper, and pulled it from her enchanted satchel. "Here you go, love. Go ahead. Open it." A smile was upon his lips and he said something about it being too early for Christmas, but as soon as the wrapping paper was off, he was looking at the silly little creation his girlfriend had put together. As expected, he at first had the look of someone who thought he knew what he was looking at and then the expression changed as he read the title.
SCADVENTGER CALENDAR.
He looked at her and she could just tell he was debating on whether to tell her that her spelling was way, waaaaay off or whether he should take it in as all part of her plan, weird spelling and all. He opted for the latter and she chuckled. "If you can come up with "stroam", I figured I could coin "Scadventger". It is a combination of "Scavenger" and "Advent" which when put together should sound a little like what I hope this will be for you, and that is an "Adventure". It is an advent calendar, and I know you are familiar with that portion of it. Just open the number corresponding to whatever day of the month it happens be like any other advent calendar. Unlike any other advent calendar, however, some days will not have a treat or gift inside, but will instead have a puzzle clue. Figuring out the clue will take you to a place somewhere on campus grounds or beyond. There you will either find a little something or you may find another clue."
She stopped for a minute and took a breath because this is where her plan was a bit shaky. She slipped momentarily back into her thought process about the logistics of some things, and as usual, her hand reached up and her long fingers automatically began to twirl strands of her hair without her being aware she was even doing so. It was just such an automatic reflex and something she only did when deep in thought. She quickly determined that the first few days were covered, so she had time to figure some things out. Nothing was going to get in the way of his having fun.
Probably.
"The clues will point to places or to things that can be found in those places. Some days a clue may yield an immediate result or you may need to track down clues for a few days to get to a reward of sorts. Just bring back a token from the place the clue points to and tell me where you got it so that I know you did not miss something or are going down the wrong path."
She leaned over and rested her chin on his shoulder as he looked over the calendar. "I had it enchanted by one of the professors, so some of the advent drawers are larger than they look. Go ahead. Open the first one so you can see what it is like," she said enthusiastically. "You know where I live and you know my soup can line number," and she winked at him, "so if you ever get stuck, just reach out. Actually, you should just reach out to me anyway. That will be MY treat during this adventure. Happy Christmas, my love!"

If it is another clue to be followed, I will post that in a reducio, too, but you will need to wait until the following day to see the new clue. For the reward above, what is the answer and where did you find the reward.? So that I am not relegating you to posting 200 words everyday in this thread, you can just owl me with a quick "here is what I think the clue answer is and where I am going," etc. Maybe after some days of collecting, whatever number that works in your schedule, you can post in this thread.... if you want to. Busy people. Real life. What was I thinking?!? The gift for Simon that became a chore for his writer... LoL. Sorry!<3

Pigs Feet for Christmas, @Simon Kincaid
Reward:Everything was rapidly ramping up to whirlwind proportions at Hogwarts. Homework was being doled out at a fast and furious clip. A seemingly unending stream of essays were being assigned, and there were, of course, the hands on demonstrations of skills learned in Charms, DADA, Potions, and Flying. On top of all of that, finals lurked in the background.
As had happened at the end of the spring school term in June, when everyone was stretched thin with schoolwork, all of the Prefects seemed to have gotten together and decided that NOW would be a good time to unload a bunch of ERRANDS all at once. AngelFyre loved them, but wished they could be spread out over the term instead of heaped on all at once. She was not Queen of the universe, however, and the last time she checked, no one was obligated to consult her on such matters. She chuckled to herself at the thought. That is one job she would definitely not want.
After hanging her coat up on one of the pegs on the back of her dorm room door, AngelFyre plopped down in her desk chair. Things really were busy. And if they were busy for her, they had to be ten-fold busier for Simon, what with being a Prefect and all. She sat there for a moment and contemplated whether her insomnia had spawned an idea that was just one more thing that had been added to Simon's already full plate. It was only Day 2 and she was waffling on whether to pull the plug on it or not, but because it was only Day 2, she decided to let it ride a little longer. Maybe it would be a nice break for him each day in a sea of chaos. If not, she could course correct soon enough and not overwhelm her fellow.
He had asked her yesterday why scadventger? How did the idea originate? So she told him. Her favorite Christmas present ever had been a pair of slippers. They were the most adorable slippers with plush pig heads wearing chef hats. With every step she took those chef hats would flop around and AngelFyre loved almost nothing more than looking down at her 'pigs' feet' and seeing those adorable piggy faces looking back up at her. She wore those slippers every chance she got until she outgrew them. As wonderful as the slippers were themselves, however, they were not even the best part of the gift. Getting to the slippers was the primary memory that stuck with her.
She was 5 years old and it was their first Christmas at the "farm". Her father pointed gleefully to an envelope under the tree with her name on it. When she opened it, it simply instructed her to go look in the oven. So she did and what she found there was another note that told her to go look in the piano bench. The whole thing was such an oddity that it immediately captured her interest. After following the instructions in 9 notes, she finally found her slippers. They were where any pair of self-respecting slippers should be and that was under her bed. It was a perfect hiding place for them really.
AngelFyre glanced all around her room and her heart felt very full. She knew without a doubt that it had been 9 notes that led to her slippers. She knew this because all 9 notes were in a scrapbook she kept at home. That little adventure had been spectacular fun for a 5 year old little girl, but Simon was not that. He was a 13... almost 14!....year old boy. His idea of fun might not be this. Her hope had been that he could know the thrill of the challenges and the excitement of the anticipation. As her gaze landed on the things, big and small, in her room that reminded her of him and of her family, it finally came to rest on the trunk at the end of her bed and she smiled softly.
Her plush piggy slippers had been well loved. She stopped wearing them only because she had outgrown them, but they were now safely residing in her hope chest at home. It was her hope that she might someday be able to recreate the fun with one of her own children.
But she would most love to be able to share it with Simon in the here and now.

Day 3, Better Late than Never @Simon Kincaid
Reward:Today's puzzle clue was not a particularly challenging one, at least AngelFyre did not think so. She reckoned her brilliant dhampir would figure it out in nothing flat. She had gotten tied up with some studying and potion making, which she loved to do, but it was so time consuming. This was perhaps not her best effort, but she thought it was sort of cute. When she looked at the time and noticed it was already dark outside, she knew she had to hurry and go hide today's offering. She figured Simon could swing by while he was doing his Prefect duties and making his rounds and collect it then.
It was just another excuse to get him out into the evening air. He could do the days, but she knew he much preferred the nights. As she slipped her coat on and headed out, she passed quite a few students coming in as she was going in the opposite direction. She really needed to hurry so as to be back for dinner. She had not seen him much at all in the last few days and they had agreed to eat together. Well, they had technically agreed that they would be there together while AngelFyre ate. Whether he ate much, if anything, would be a different story.
When she got to her destination, she stood there for a moment, just remembering. She had had something, a couple of somethings actually, to tell him that day and she had been scared. She need not have been. She did not get what she had hoped for from him that day, and she honestly had not expected to, and that was fine. But what he did give her changed everything for her and it was done so easily. So quietly. So meaningfully.
She smiled and reached into her pocket for the decorative plastic bag covered in snowmen. Inside would be 100 lemon sherbets to restock his supply. She quickly tacked the corner of the bag upon the wall. She knew he would see it; those dhampir eyes at night would not miss it.
Then she turned and ran back to the Great Hall. She had a hot date waiting for her after all.

A Day of Rest @Simon Kincaid
Reward:December 4th, 2022 fell on a Sunday. It was the day in the week that both AngelFyre and Simon dedicated a good deal of their time to their faith studies. It had become their practice to start off on their own, reflective studying each Sunday and then come together afterwards to study together and to discuss the deeper meanings of what they had learned and what they thought it meant, and more importantly, how they should apply it to their lives. She knew they both dedicated time for prayer and study each and every day, but this was a special occasion between them each and every Sunday and AngelFyre truly looked forward to it each week. All they could promise each other was that they would get together at some point on Sundays for study, and they had been very faithful to one another on that score. Because of dueling matches or broom races, mornings were not always possible, but they always figured it out. They were good at that. It was a necessity and not simply a desire.
If AngelFyre could point to the single most important thing that she felt kept their connection to each other so strong, it would be the connection they made with each other at these times. This was the fuel for everything else between them and it was sacred. She had no other word to describe it. She deep down felt that even without this, she and Simon would still be a couple, but the shine... the absoluteness.... to them as a unit would be weakened... possibly even to the point of breaking. They had never spoken of it directly, but she felt that Simon was of a similar mindset about it as well.
So, with all of that in mind, AngelFyre had determined that today's offering would simply be reward with no taxing puzzle to figure out or to track down. She thought Simon would appreciate the break, and besides, she was especially looking forward to his reaction when he saw this one. It was likely going to be bittersweet for him, but she knew that would be okay. He never shied away from his emotions. If anything, he spent an incredible amount of time trying to figure them out. It was one of a million things she adored about him.
She had asked him yesterday not to open today's little drawer until they could be together. She had come by the little gift in a very round about way. When in the dueling room practicing one day, Lucia Fox had been practicing as well. She was talking with another Hufflepuff about pets, and Lucia mentioned off-handedly that she had found a photo of her best friend's rat when it was just a baby. She sounded a little sad... still... at the mention of Alexa, but soon enough was able to move forward, laughing as she added that she was allergic to rats, so why or how she had a photo of Rascal was a mystery to her.
Not one to normally listen to other people's conversations, AngelFyre could not help but be drawn to this one. She never knew Alexa, but she knew she had been one of Simon's dearest friends and had died in a tragic accident over the Christmas break last year. It had happened shortly before AngelFyre had met him, but he learned of it after they met. He was devastated at her loss. The sadness still clouds his eyes sometimes when she is brought up. But in something that could only be explained as Divine Intervention, her beloved rat, Rascal, had made his way back to Hogwarts from Inverness and Simon was the one who found him! Or maybe Rascal found Simon. Either way, Simon had taken on the awesome responsibility of caring for his friend's rat and for a guy who is not an animal person, AngelFyre had been delighted and proud of his efforts. Rascal was one spoiled rat and a well loved rat. Simon might not call it that, or recognize it as such, but that is what it was. Love.
Knowing the background story, AngelFyre could not resist asking Lucia a very forward question, and had asked whether Lucia might consider turning the photo over to AngelFyre to give to Simon? Yeah, it was a bold request, but it has been well established that she could be bold. She explained that she was working on an Advent type like surprise for him and that photo would be a wonderful gift and memory for him of both Rascal and Alexa.
To her great relief, Lucia smiled and told her she would absolutely be happy to turn the photo over to AngelFyre and that is how she came by it.Funny how things worked out sometimes. As she was getting ready to go meet Simon for their Bible study session and discussion, she just shook her head in wonderment at how HIS hand touched every single thing in their lives.... and even in the life of a blessed rat.
It truly was a season of miracles.

Some Puzzling of Her Own @Simon Kincaid
Clue Hint:AngelFyre was in a very good mood this morning. She had gotten ready and had put on her black leggings beneath her dark, forest green dress. The cherry on top of her good mood, and outfit, was her red Santa cap. The castle had been decorated since the 1st of December, and it was just beautiful. Everywhere you looked there was holly and garlands festooned with bows and wreaths. If the castle was all decked out she figured she could put in the effort, too. As she tied the laces up on her black ankle boots, she scanned her desk for the little plastic baggie covered in ice skating penguins. She did a quick check of its contents…1… 2… 3, 4… and 5. Fantastic. Everything, including AngelFyre, was ready. Now it was just a matter of hiding the reward at the designated spot and getting back to the castle in time for some morning dueling practice.
She found herself bounding down the staircase to the ground floor and on her way down, she noticed a table had been set up with a bit of parchment hanging over the front of it in the Entrance Hall. It was covered in wrapped gifts and even some stockings hung from it. Two gorgeous Christmas trees flanked both sides of the table which happened to be manned by a Ravenclaw student and Nurse Frogge. They were offering 6 chocolate frogs if one was willing to write 10 inches of parchment about what the True Meaning of Christmas was to them. She eyed the two jovial elves with a sparkle in her eyes and laughed merrily, the sound reverberating slightly around them.
AngelFyre pointed to her own Santa cap as she approached the table. “Looks like we three got the same memo, though the green cap is particularly beautiful.” Although she did not know him personally, she knew the name of the Ravenclaw student. His name was Bubba and he had a reputation for being quite fun and a boy with a cutting, rapier wit. It crossed her mind to wonder if it was his idea to have the students write 10 inches of parchment. Who asks for inches of parchment? That was just so random and truly tickled her sense of whimsy.
She would have loved to ask him, but she had to get going. She gathered the applicable information she needed and shelved it away for easy retrieval later when she would have more time to participate. She loved the idea of being able to express what the true meaning of Christmas was to her, but she also wanted to think on it a bit to get her thoughts in order.
She waved goodbye to them as she headed out the front doors. She was excited to be out in the fresh air and to leave Simon’s reward at the designated spot. It was one of her favorite places on the grounds, and it gave her time to think on the errand as she walked there. She pretty well had the outline set in her mind before reaching her destination, and she smiled as she looked over the landscape, a scene from The Bishop’s Wife now tickling her brain and the corners of her mouth. There was so much to love about that movie, and she then wondered if Simon had ever seen it. Poor boy. Whether he had or had not, one thing she knew for certain was that a viewing was likely in his very near future.

Once Upon a When, Time Stood Still (for the first time) with @Simon Kincaid
Yesterday's owls brought the package that AngelFyre had been most eager to receive. She had a backup plan if it had never arrived, or arrived late, but this was sooooo much better. She probably should have waited until further along in the month to give it to him, but AngelFyre could already tell there was just no way she was going to be able to contain herself for two more weeks. Besides, it might serve as a great decoy for his really real Christmas present, if she played it up appropriately. Playing this one up would not be hard.
She hurried and got dressed. She was sitting at her desk a good 15 minutes, futzing around, waiting for it to be permissible to leave the House of Badgers and enter the corridors. Her excitement had kept her wide awake through the night so she had been productive in the wee hours. She had been reading up on runes and was delighted when she had been able to check out Ancient Runes Made Easy by Laurenzoo, from the Library yesterday afternoon.
In addition, she had completed her History of Magic essay on a subject of great interest to her - why had the separation of Muggles and Wizards taken place. AngelFyre had been thorough in her research and had produced a beautifully written essay. She had also given herself more than enough time to let it marinate in her brain for a couple of days to make certain there were not additions or deletions she wished to make. This subject touched on what AngelFyre felt deep down was what exactly... her resistance? ... her reluctance? to magic. Well a part of it anyway. The other edge of the sword was her faith. But these were large questions for another day, or a bunch of other days. Right now she just wanted get out of this room and get his reward in place. It was going to take Simon all of about 3 seconds to get this one figured out, so she absolutely had to hurry.
She had stowed it away in her satchel on the very off chance she ran into him on her way there. She was praying that this would be one of those times when her human self might be more spry than his Dhampir self. It would be a shame if he did not get the full on effect of figuring it out and finding the reward because he beat her there. It would not be all bad, for her anyway. Her reward for being slow would be a bundle of kisses, given and received, from her handsome fellow.
Hmmmm. Maybe she should slow her roll a bit, come to think of it, and then she laughed. Nope. This was about Simon. Focus, AF!
Another little logistical concern was where exactly to hide it when she got there, but when she thought about it, and she was doing that very thing while on the run, there really was only one place it could go.
She was not worried that anyone might discover it and take it for themselves. There would be friendly sentries about, keeping an eye on it for her until he could get there to retrieve it himself, of that she was certain.

Just A... No... A Just Reward for @Simon Kincaid
There would be no puzzle to solve for Simon today. Everything she came up with was not nice, so AngelFyre had decided it would be better for the both of them if her snark level were kept to a minimum. Today's "reward", she felt, stood a better than good chance of not even being considered a reward or treat by any stretch of the imagination by her beloved dhampir, but this advent calendar idea seemed the most innocuous way to get this particular item to her beloved. In that respect, it was selfishly something more for her than for him, at least on the surface. There was, however, something... a thought or a feeling... pacing in the portion of her lizard brain that screamed at her it should be something Simon should have with him any time he was to be in the presence of Adrian Hawthorne.
Giving this, to him now, gave her time to extract a promise from him that he would take it with him when he met up with his vampyric father on the 23rd in London. She knew Simon trusted her. It was not a lack of trust which held him back at all from taking her word on all that she had shared with him about Adrian Hawthorne. It was simply his overwhelming desire to not wish to believe that one of the parents who had been partly responsible for bringing him into this world would have any desire or capability to do him harm. He kept it stored in the back of his mind to stay on guard, which was better than nothing, but AngelFyre seemed incapable of being able to impress upon him just what folly his misplaced hopes in Adrian Hawthorne would turn out to be.
Ironically, his ammunition against her arguments came back to yet another vision she had of Simon, and she had to give credit where credit was due. It was hard to refute his logic. What it boiled down to was that it must all turn out fine in the end if he and she were to live happily ever after, as she had said they would a number of times. She had a way with words. She knew this. She knew she had a power to reach him and his heart in a way like no other could, but what she did not have the power to do was to have him feel the terror of what was to come for him. She did not have the power to allow him to see the things she could see when it came to Adrian. Her words alone were inadequate and she despaired that Simon would let his guard down just enough to allow the man to charm him and not even realize it was happening. Once charmed, Simon would start down a path she would not be able prevent him from traveling.
Simon was right. She did see the two of them together, but what his point always failed to take into account was an important question. The most important question.
At what cost?
Yes, Simon would come out on the other side of whatever this was with his father, but who would he be then? He would be changed. How much of his innocence and sweetness and tenderness would be chipped away? How much of the beautiful, gentle boy she loved so very much would be forever lost to her because she was utterly incapable of making him understand that Adrian Hawthorne would never have his best interest at heart? Too much, she feared.
She knew everything happened in its time for a reason. God was the Master Planner here. But from her puny, human perspective, she could not help but wish that she had met Simon sooner so that he and her father could have had more time to build something ... to build the very relationship Simon hoped to get from Adrian. He was a smart lad. Being around a warm, loving father figure would be a fabulous juxtaposition to the cold, empty shell Adrian would offer. All she could do was pray that while Simon pursued his relationship with his blood relation he would not be blind to the person most capable... and willing... to provide him that very relationship he sought.
She would not be there with him when he opened the drawer to discover the vial contained within. He could express his true feelings about such a discovery in the privacy of his room, but the little note that went with it would not be something he could ignore.
On this point AngelFyre was prepared to be utterly relentless. She would get his promise or die trying.

A Little thing Could Lead to Bigger Things @Simon Kincaid
Towards the end of her first year, AngelFyre had delighted herself by accomplishing something she had wanted to do since the beginning of her first year at Hogwarts, and that was to make the suits of armor dance in the corridor. It was a particularly momentous occasion for another reason as well, and an even more important one. It was the day she and Colin met officially. She had been prepared to cast Tarantallegra on the suits of armor all on her own, but she had found an eager comrade in arms in Mr. McCoire, and something just clicked that day between them. After anything and everything Simon Ezra Kincaid, that little escapade was the highlight of her year and introduced into her life the person who would become her very best lifelong friend, after Simon of course.
She thought upon that day and that incident now because today's little reward for Simon had been found in the snowbanks of wrappers and torn parchment pieces she had been cleaning up that afternoon before the real fun had begun. When the Gryffindor had made her untimely presence known to AngelFyre by accidentally knocking over a suit of armor, AngelFyre had just picked up a handful rubbish and noted, just barely, that there seemed to be something of slight weight beyond that of wrappers and parchment in her hand. Her focus was on the other girl in those moments, so AngelFyre put the object in her trousers pocket without much thought to it at all, forgetting all about it until later that evening as she undressed for bed. It captured her attention fully when it landed on the floor by her canopied, 4 poster bed which AngelFyre had come to think of as her badger cave.
Yes, yes. She knew well that badgers did not live in caves but lived in underground dens, but for some odd reason, since her very first night in Badger Bungalow, AngelFyre had come to think of her private little bed area as a cave when she pulled the canopy close around her. Caves felt more accessible than a den to her, as after all, something as large as bears hibernated in caves for gosh sake. Maybe it was because she felt like there was so much less privacy with nothing but the canopy material separating her from everyone else that said cave to her mind. Who knew. It did not make perfect sense to her, but the lack of privacy was one of the reasons she had opted this year to get a badger den of her own. No more easily accessible cave out in the general population. Nope. This year she had a little den all her own. Heaven!
This meant, thanks to Simon's fabulous ingenuity, the two could occasionally keep each other company during long, sleepless nights on the Hogwarts Telecommunication Network he had constructed between their dorms. The boy really was part Gaudí and part Edison and she was just thankful he was hers. Nights were a whole lot less long and lonely this year than they had been last year.
But all of that brought her back around to the object that had fallen from the pocket months ago. She had forgotten about it, really, until she came upon it in her desk drawer recently. That had sparked her imagination and she envisioned all kinds of adventures for Simon and herself on campus with that at the periphery. Nothing may ever truly come from it, other than the fun of just trying it out, but that in and of itself was more than enough to appeal to her sense of imagination and adventure.
And honestly, who better than Simon to join her in such escapades?

Turns out @Simon Kincaid Is Not My Dream Guy Actually
She had actually slept. It was not something she did a lot of, but she had crashed the evening before, rather early actually. She had all kinds of visions of her dreams, but her frustration pricked at the back of her mind like a small ice pick. She felt well rested and ready to face the day, but still... why could she not jump this particular hurdle? She lay there for a few minutes, toasty warm and not especially looking forward to the bracing chill radiating off the castle flagstones which awaited her the moment she moved out from beneath her goose down quilt. Brrrrrrrr.
And then she remembered what today's reward was for Simon and she hustled out of bed at that thought. Frustration levels having abated, there was no missing the smile lighting up her face now. Today's reward was one that would be something AngelFyre was likely to enjoy as much as Simon would. There was a serious bent to it as well, but the overall impact would play to their fun-loving, hormonally imbued, romantic selves.
A tremendous benefit to being an insomniac was how productive one could be. She was extremely well read for her age. For anyone's age, actually. She could always give her schoolwork that little bit of extra to round it out and let it truly sink in fully. She was a child who had studied history and was, hopefully, therefore not doomed to repeat it. She was also a child whose brain was seemingly coated in glue or something because she was blessed with an incredible memory. Things just stuck and her retrieval system was generally coachwhip fast. She definitely did not have a photographic memory, but her memory tended more towards the visual whereas Simon's tended towards music. Where he would want to compose or play music in his long lonely hours, AngelFyre would have preferred to either read or watch classic movies or documentaries. Deep down she suspected, however, if when they were older and married and being together at night would be a regular state of being, she suspected she would be more than thrilled to listen to him play or compose in lieu of just about anything, just so long as she was with him. She also suspected compromises would be made and there would still be late, late night movie watching.
But what long nights were also good for was her imagination. Her creativity ran rampant. It gave her a sweeping landscape on which to play with ideas, no matter how out of the box they may seem. When she did sleep, her dreams were one of her very favorite places to visit and they were the laboratory for her imaginings. Sometimes they were in cartoons and sometimes they were like she had been given a peek into a Willy Wonka kind of wonderland of imagination, and she did not mean the Tim Burton version (not that there was anything wrong with that). The beauty and fun was that she really never knew what to expect.
She would meet herself, face to face sometimes, in these places and have silly conversations and sometimes she would have serious conversations. And she would also meet people she knew and those she loved. Unless she was having the rare nightmare, Hillary was almost always with her. Even separated they still went everywhere together.
So it was always a befuddlement to AngelFyre that she never met Simon in her dreams. She would frequently meet her family and friends, but she had never... not once... met Simon there. She used to think it would just take some time, but they had known each other nearly a year now and still he had not appeared. This was a particular bother over the summer when they had been separated. Nothing would have made her happier than to be able to meet him in her dreams and just see where her thoughts would carry them, but she could never get him there. AngelFyre knew he was close. She had him waiting in the wings, but she could just not get him to appear.
It was less a curiosity to her now and more of a nuisance. She even remembered scolding herself in one dream after she had returned from visiting him in London. She had been home about a week, and it was a hard week. Kendric had made a mess of things when he had kissed her and AngelFyre knew Simon was preparing for the second meeting with his father. The word of the week had been "worry". If ever there was a time she would have wanted to see him, it would have been then. She dreamt that she was at Hogwarts, walking the shoreline of the Great Lake, but on the far side... a side she had never been to before. She kept asking herself why she would not make him appear and she finally, quite clearly, heard an exasperated sigh and then listened as she told herself that "the answer would come when it would come.". Even in her dream that was a most unsatisfying response.
So, here she was this morning, heading off to plant the reward for her fellow, grateful that the long nights had brought such an idea for this reward to her mind, but still a bit rankled that she would not get out of her own way on the other topic. Perhaps there was more going on there that needed to be explored, but where to even start was yet one more question to answer.
Well, one thing was certain. She was a badger for a reason. AngelFyre was nothing if not tenacious.

Just A Part of the Whole @Simon Kincaid
Haiku. That is what was awaiting Simon when he opened up the little drawer with the number 10 on it today. AngelFyre loved Haikus. She remembered rushing home from school the day they learned about them to share her newfound knowledge with Grandma Ruth. She was seven, maybe eight years old, and the definite realization that just because something was new to her did not mean it was not new to everyone else had not completely cemented itself in her psyche just yet. This meant her inner child was still happily and naively running loose amongst the jaded. For a few months, her enthusiasm for all things Haiku had known few bounds. Her father made her laugh hard when she told him that evening about them.
He pretended not to know what it was she was saying, so after making her repeat the word 'Haiku' 3-4 times, he ended his little joke by simply saying, "Gesundheit". He had the most serious face on, giving no hint as to the ruse, so it took AngelFyre a couple of Mississippis to figure out that he was teasing her. When she did, she just burst out laughing. "Good one, Daddy," she had chirped. Even at 12 years old, if she was being honest, she still thought it was pretty funny.
Poor Simon... or maybe lucky Simon? She definitely got her sense of humor, and the ability to sell a situation, from her father. She happened to think her father was quite amusing, so this was not an altogether bad thing from her persective. It just meant Simon would have to be on his game quite a lot. She, and he, would just have to chalk it up to that AngelFyre spice she brought to their little dynamic duo.
Thinking back on it, she might have even written a haiku about that moment with her father. She catalogued it as a "soft' To Do in her mind. That generally meant something she wanted to recall, but did not want to devote primary generator brain power to remembering in that moment, would pop up later, sometimes at the oddest times.
Who knew. Simon might get blessed (and yes, she made herself laugh with that unintended pun) with two haikus in one day.
