AngelFyre - #17451b
Dave - #cd0a2f
After I finished my mini speach, AngelFyre went on one of her own although her's was nowhere near as fast as mine. “Sounds like the Sorting hat may have done you a solid, sleep-wise anyway, by not placing Matthew in Hufflepuff. The really good news is that he is at Hogwarts now and you are no longer truly separated. That must feel good. I am glad for you that you have family here. I think we both can relate to how hard it can be to come here knowing no one. Matthew was at least spared that, so good for you, big brother Dave! And about Daphne, that sounds wonderful, Dave. Yes, she is a very pretty girl, indeed, but I am so glad to know that there is more there that attracts you. No matter how physically beautiful one is, it will eventually fade, so there better be something to engage another's heart and mind when the physical bloom is no longer obvious. If there is more there, then she... or he... will always be seen as beautiful to those who love them. I am not suggesting this is love, but it is nice to hear you describe the ability she has to make the uninteresting surprisingly interesting to you. That is a gift and you are right to recognize how special that is.”

AngelFyre stopped to take a deep breath in the way I would when I paused whilst talking, and as she did so, I put my omnioculars down before looking at her with a single tear streaming out of my right eye. I myself was surprised at how AngelFyre made me cry just by talking, but her speech thus far was very beautiful so I couldn't help myself. I sniffed a bit whilst wiping a my tear away before hearing AngelFyre continue. “And by the way, you two could be the worst dancers in the world, and you are not by the way, I am an eye witness to that fact, but even if you were, it should not matter so long as you both are having fun. That is one of the gifts Simon has given me in our time together. Sadly for you, you know what a horror show my singing is.” At this point, we shared laughed as we remembered here singing back at the Sweethearts Tea Party last year. “And Simon knows it, too, but he has a way that reminds me of it in the funniest and sweetest ways possible. The result is that he makes me feel okay about having ‘The Best Worst Voice at Hogwarts’... a title I have proudly self-imposed on myself by the way... and supports me in the moments I do choose to sing instead of silencing myself because he knows it makes me happy. The result has not changed the quality of my singing, but I am no longer self-conscious about it either. I can dance like no one's watching and sing like no one's listening. Sorry about that. Just my long-winded way of saying to you that I am happy if you are happy because of a girl who can do that for you.”

“Wow, that was just beautiful AF. The middle part more then the others, but the speech was beautiful nonetheless. And you’re seriously apologizing to me for talking so much? I mean, you’re talking to me, not my mom, don’t forget that. We were having fun dancing and Daphne back at the ball and the only problem I did have was her giant dress and me trying not to step on it. And I completely agree with your statement that no matter how physically beautiful one is, their beauty will eventually fade, which is why there has to be something to engage another's heart and mind when the physical bloom is no longer obvious although I’d like to add that there has to be something else anyways because if you get together with someone just for the looks then you probably won’t last with them long enough for their looks to go away.” I then looked back to the race as AngelFyre began talking again.

“As I am not privy to magical mail supply chain dynamics, I have no way of being able to answer your queries other than to say, 'Whatzamatta you?' You know the internet does not work at Hogwarts. It interferes with the magic. How could I possibly use Amazon? All I know is I sent the owl off last night and the package arrived about 20 minutes before I left to come here. I put a rush on it, but honestly, I figured to receive them midweek. It surprised me, too, maybe there is a relay operation of sorts for owls on certain routes like the Pony Express used to have back in the 1880's in the USA. You know, a kind of pass the baton type thing to keep things moving. By the way, Daphne is a couple of rows below us if you did not know. I am just throwing that out there in case you might want to use this as a non-hurried opportunity to speak more with her.”

As I heard the last line, I put my omnioculars down and looked down to search for Daphne and once I found her, I said “Well that’s nice to know. I’ll probably talk to her later today. Now about Amazon, that was a joke because even if the internet did work, no one would use Amazon to get stuff delivered here because it’s run by muggles. You know, it sucks that there’s no internet at Hogwarts, it’s one of the better things that muggles have made. But hey, at least we can still use internet at home, there’s too little magic there to make electronic devices not work. And while we’re on the subject of electronics and the internet, it’d be nice if someone made a spell that make electronics work at Hogwarts or other places that have so much magic that electronics won’t work. Not that it’s going to happen, but it’s nice to wish for it. And then again, after we graduate this year, that’s five more years and we’ll have access to the internet year-round. And five years isn’t really that long, I mean, I’ve already lived through five years twice.”

xxxMaggie shifted slightly as she saw the approaching girl, scooting over fully once Monica got closer. They weren't particularly amazingly acquainted, really, but them both being prefects for Slytherin meant that they were at least in close proximity. For professional endeavors, at least. Professional as school-mates being in charge of supervising their peers could be.

"For sure! Have a seat," Maggie nodded vaguely to the spot beside her to indicate for Monica to sit down beside her. It was nice to have a friend. Sitting there in the stands watching June, being there chiefly for June, making this stupid poster for June? It all felt so strange. So disingenuous. So... pathetic. Monica's presence really improved that, got rid of all that doubt and frustration that was building up beneath her skin, bubbling like a sore. "It really is cool, isn't it? Looks sorta dangerous. And I can't really see that good," Maggie squinted at the sky, holding her palm up at her brows. Her glasses, while awfully helpful, didn't entirely magnify her eyes. Especially at far, far distances. And yet, even though she couldn't see people very well up in the air, she could clearly distinguish June and her posture up on that broomstick.

Funny, really.

Of course, this reverie really didn't last long before Maggie caught wind of another conversation not far away. A Hufflepuff sign is what she saw first, but what had really captured her attention was the words. Muggle technology. Internet. Oh, it was something that Maggie missed so ridiculously. Was it silly to miss the internet more than, like, anything else? Because Maggie was certain she missed her mother a little less than she missed a good Netflix subscription. Maggie leaned forward to speak to the boy first, one with long, dark hair. "Amazon? I love Amazon," she put in. The girl she knew as AngelFyre--she'd seen her last year at the Valentine's Tea Party. "Howdy. I'm Maggie."

Dave completely surprised her when he actually wiped a tear away at one point. Her friend, she knew, had a tender heart, but just how tender came as a surprise.

Thank you, God, for my friends and their tender hearts. May I be worthy of them and mindful of them.

She did listen as he spoke of wishing for a time when the internet might not adversely affect magic and could one day be available at Hogwarts. "From your lips to Merlin's ears. If Simon were sitting here you would be hearing from his one-man 'Amen Chorus' for sure," and she laughed. Her fellow was quite fond of Google and his cell phone. He was by no means intellectually lazy, but boy could he go on some mini diatribes when having to track down 8 books in the Library when he knew Google would have saved him the 15-20 minutes to track them down. Of all the things she herself missed when at Hogwarts, the internet would likely not even make the Top 10. Vive la différence!

As these thoughts were being discussed and considered between the two, she brought her omnioculars up and focused on the race once again. The first one she locked onto was Colin. "Oh, dear. Poor, Colin." Nothing seemed to be going his way right then. He currently appeared to be not only covered in pigeon poop, but he was blindfolded as well. Yikes! She knew that no one was going to like being pooped on, but she knew something about her friend that most people did not, and his olfactory sense was more sensitive than most. Colin had to be miserable and that she did not take pleasure in for him. Not really. Neither did she enjoy seeing him being shredded to pieces. Friends do not let friends ride blind... or do they? Sorry, Woofy. It is a rough game.

Moving the omnioculars farther along the track, she located her handsome Hufflepuff. He, thankfully, was not covered in poop. But she got to see him hurl a projectile at Vale Ashwood, and his aim was true! She had mixed feelings on this and she knew Simon did as well, but it was the game and it was a legal move. She knew he would be a bit torn over it, especially since she was hit by another and fell from her broom, unsaved. She wondered if he was reliving his own similar nightmare from January, but if he was, he was not showing it. He just had a look of resolve and she knew how formidable he could be when he set his mind to something.

She was about to respond to Dave's choice to speak to Daphne later when an unfamiliar female voice from behind them interjected itself into their conversation. When AngelFyre put her omnioculars down and turned around to face the girl, she seemed to be addressing Dave more specifically as she was enthusing about loving Amazon, which made AngelFyre smile. She had seen her often in the Great Hall and the Corridors, but did not know her name, until she cheerfully introduced herself as Maggie.

"Hi, Maggie," and she smiled nodded to her. "I am AngelFyre, but call me AF. Internet guy here is Dave, but you may call him David Logan Matthew Patrick Howard," and she laughed good naturedly.

“From your lips to Merlin's ears. If Simon were sitting here you would be hearing from his one-man ‘Amen Chorus’ for sure.” AngelFyre told me before beginning to laugh and I responded by saying “Lemmie guess, it goes a few amens with some nodding added in?” Just then, I heard a girl behind me say “Amazon? I love Amazon.” I turned around to see a girl with bushy brown hair and brown eyes. “Howdy. I'm Maggie.” she said and AngelFyre responded with “Hi, Maggie, I am AngelFyre, but call me AF. Internet guy here is Dave, but you may call him David Logan Matthew Patrick Howard.” “Fun fact by the way,” I started, “my dad’s name is Patrick and by younger brother’s name is Matthew. He’s actually a Gryffindor here so that’s nice.” I turned back towards the race before continuing. “And as AF has already said I’m David Logan Matthew Patrick Howard although you can call me Dave. And I too love Amazon since you can order pretty much anything on it without having to visit a physical store to make the purchase. Of course, there are times when visiting a physical store is much better, but there’s a lot of times when it’s just better to order online in my opinion.”

As we were talking, one of the Slytherin Racers that got hit with bird poop managed to clean himself using a spell, while two of the Hufflepuff Racers shot spells at their opponents. One of them missed while another shot an Obscuro that split itself into two and while it missed one of it’s intended targets, it hit another who just so happened to be Colin. Simon and another Hufflepuff on the other hand used a rock and a log respectively on one of the Slytherin racers, knocking her out. The pigeons had also decided to target Colin with their excrements and the poor boy was covered head to toe in the smelly stuff with some of it finding itself inside of mouth. “Oh, dear. Poor Colin.” AngelFyre said. “Yes, poor Colin, getting pigeon poop in his mouth like that.” And if that wasn’t bad enough, he lost his sense of direction began to circle around instead of going forward which wasn’t helping him, but he’d probably figure out soon enough. As Colin rode around in circles, another Slytherin could be seen going ahead of everyone and he soon passed the waterfall although he bumped into the side of a narrow passageway soon after. Things were going bad for both sides at this point because while Slytherin had lost one of it’s members making this a 4v5, they were also winning by a large margin with the person in the lead being miles ahead of the nearest Hufflepuff.

They/She
Closed to interactions
Pax was aware that they were incredibly late to Colin's race, but they'd made it nonetheless to support the boy. The slight issue had been that they knew very little- if anything at all- about the sport. It seemed fast and action-packed, but other than merely looping a course round and round, Pax didn't see the interest.

However, Colin was a good friend. He deserved their support even if the sport wasn't particularly to their interest. So, after asking for some help of understanding from their broom-racing knowledgeable brother (they'd been trapped in a lecture from him for a full hour for this), they bundled themself into a coat and headed over to watch the match.

They saw a couple of people they recognised, but instead of going over to them, Pax decided to watch alone. The air was damp, they were tired after the long talk, and frankly in no good mood to interact with others who were overly eager. Except for the occasional yelling out of encouragement to Colin every so often if they thought they spotted him, Pax snuggled in their coat and stayed pretty silent, simply observing and allowing the others in the crowd to be the main cheerleaders.

Compared to the Fal, the Scottish countryside definitely had a bit more bite to the air. She was used to the humidity of living by the water, but it was different. Ocean breezes and lakeside life were two different beasts. She'd layered appropriately. Thick wool socks her neighbor back home had knit in her platform docks, a pair of black leggings with a band tee under a sweater she'd found thrifting before the school year started.

Though she wasn't on the team yet, that could change in the blink of an eye. Alora was an alternate, and she planned to be as involved as she could with her house and her team. Plus, Colin was pretty great, and what better way to support her friend and teammate than to come out with a giant paper snake poster she'd convinced an older student to enchant to hiss. It seemed to do a pretty good job at keeping the pigeons away despite the snacks she'd snuck from the kitchens. She was petty enough to throw some at the opposing team's fans if it came to it.

"WOOOOO GO COLIN!" she cheered as she watched him zoom and blanched as she noted on her binoculars he had gotten hurt in the first round and was bleeding. Even more so as it didn't seem to get better the second go round. That Jack and his charm was a problem, and Alora was a petty child. Hufflepuff would be next on the prank list of chaos that was for certain. That George certainly wasn't any better. Magic was wild, and Alora was very vocal in her anger as the other team did her peers dirty! Of course, she didn't see the problem when her own teammates succeeded against the badgers. They could find the burrows and stay in them for all she cared.

"OOOOOF AND THE POOP TOO, MAN," she shook her head. That was her partner in crime. The only other person she had taken as much of a liking to was Efelion. They were her buddies. Might as well have been her brothers. Gods she wished she'd had brothers and not a bunch of drain-clogging toilet-hogging sisters her whole life. "That's tough..." she had to set down the binoculars to eat something. When in doubt, carbs usually did well to help ease the mind.

When she looked again, it felt like everything went horribly wrong. "Oh fu-" she began the swear and dropped her popcorn to the ground. Colin was down for the count. As was Vale. At least they took down that Jack bumhole with them, but she wasn't too worried about that in the moment. Instead she rushed out of the stands to get back to the castle to check on her friend as soon as she'd be able to.

Monica only had a handful of conversations with miss Hawkins, though every interaction she had she never left feeling disappointed, Maggie always seemed to have good spirits about her. Monica smiled at the Slytherin, taking the seat next to her as Maggie began in conversation, "Oh I agree!" Monica looked out to see George out on the field, getting ready for the race to start, "I had the pleasure of racing Henry a few days ago... it wasn't a real race, but gave me a taste of it... and just from that I could tell racing was no Joke."

The race began, and Monica also discovered how hard it was to see what was going on. She looked around to see a girl sitting by with what looked to be, binoculars, that would have been smart to bring along. Monica turned to continue in conversation with Maggie, but saw she was engaging with some other students. Monica sat back, listening to their conversation, but not daring to pipe in, not out of fear, but she rather enjoyed listening to others talk rather than engage in conversation herself. Her memory was flooded at the mention of Amazon, the simple things from the muggle world that Monica missed oh so much. All the magic in the world, and yet the mail system seemed to be something from the 1900s, what was up with that?

As Monica watched the race unfold, the parts she was able to see kept her on the edge of her seat. The Slytherins seemed to hold their own, but the Huffles were the ones starting off the defensive play, what was all this none sense of Slytherins being the Snakes? Poor Colin indeed, getting hit with poop, and targeted by two opposing players. Monica nearly shouted when June was rammed into, falling to the ground, "GET UP JUNE!!" Monica stood up shouting, clearly watching wizard sports was far different than sports they had in the muggle world, this was all rather exciting!

Monica kept her eyes on June for a while, once she got back in the race, and leap out of her seat when June took her revenge on those sneaky Badgers, "YES JUNE!" Monica turned shaking Maggie's shoulder, "Did you see that? She is doing really well!"

After some time went by, George caught Monica's attention, her main reason for coming, she desired nothing more than to see him fall flat on his face, unfortunately he was doing rather well for most of the race... getting in a spell on Colin, and some other impressive moves. At one point his eyes met Monica's and the world seemed to stop. George looked at her, and stuck out his tongue! "Oh!" Monica huffed, standing up, "YOU AIN'T THAT HOT STUFF HENRY!" Just as she was ready to throw her shoe at the boy, he entered into the maze with his teammate... only she was the one that exited, seemed Mr. Henry got turned around in there, "SERVES YOU RIGHT!"
Monica scanned the sky to see how the rest of the Slytherins were fairing, she leaned over to Maggie, "How are we doing? I lost track of most of our people?"

As AngelFyre had been somewhat distracted by the talk about Amazon deliveries and the introductions made to Maggie of both herself and Dave, she momentarily took her eyes off the race. What drew her attention back to it immediately was hearing the crowd around them erupt into a very vocal, and somewhat evenly dispersed, burst of "Oooohhhs and Awwwwws" intermingled with disgruntled shouts of 'Hey! That's cheating!" and "Boooooooo!"

When she got her omnioculars back up, her heart almost instantly fell to her stomach. She saw Colin falling from his broom and what made it even worse was that Simon.... really?... had thrown the projectile that knocked her best buddy off of his broom. It was a game and her boy was doing what he was told to do... she knew that, but it still tweaked her anger for a few seconds. Then she reminded herself that Simon was probably feeling cruddy as heck about it, but he was there to play the game and support his teammates. Colin had signed up to do the same. No need to be upset with her guy at all.

She watched with a great sense of relief as she saw the medical contingent make their way over to Colin and she knew he would be rushed to the Hospital Wing. She was now sitting there on the definite horn of a dilemma. Her heart, of course, wanted to rush to the Hospital Wing right now, to be with her friend, but Simon was still racing. The memory of Simon falling from his broom in his very first race was seared into her memory, so the thought of that happening again and her not being here for him if it did just felt like the worst option of the two. No, she would stay here and see it all through with Simon and then rush to the Hospital Wing after the match to be with Colin.

She did have smile a bit, though. Rough as this game could be, she knew both Simon and Colin loved it. The Hufflepuffs were definitely here to win it, that was for sure. New leadership had put a fire in their bellies it would seem. She watched a little breathlessly as Simon started an amazing run to catch up with his team. She yelled at the top of her lungs to him when he easily navigated the maze and came out the other side, hoping he could hear her! She was proud of him and wanted him to know it.

"WAY TO FLY, TOP GUN!!! GOOOOOOOOOO SIMON!!!!!

and

"YOU TOTALLY HAVE THIS HUFFLEPUFFS!!!

Looking over to Dave, she was all smiles. "Can you believe this game? Wyatt is out?!?! Only two Slytherins in the sky. What a race this has turned out to be!"

xxxThat sure was a mouthful. David Patrick... a lot of other words that Maggie couldn't necessarily keep track of. She did recognize AngelFyre, though--or AF, as she was now instructed to call her. "I know you. I mean, kinda. Not really, but I know of you. Saw you at that Valentine's thing. You're dating Simon, right?" Maggie was tangentially associated with Simon. They were both prefects, at least, but Maggie hadn't really held a conversation with him before. Seemed nice enough, though. "We're both prefects. I haven't talked to him yet, though."

Maggie's attention shifted to David here, and she nodded once her agreement. Amazon, one of the modern marvels of muggle culture. They really did create the most useful things. How pureblood wizards seemed to get along without the internet was completely beyond Maggie. "True. I dunno how wizards function without things like Amazon, that's weird as shit to me."

Leaning to Monica, because Maggie seemed to be of the opinion that she was entirely popular now, she nodded once. June was doing great. She thought. She didn't really understand the sport of broom racing, but she was always there to be a good cheerleader. "Yeah, yeah, she's doing great. Knew she would!" Had the utmost confidence about it. "I... don't really know what's going on, though. I don't quite understand broom racing."

Thus far, all she knew was that Colin was off his broom, and Maggie couldn't be happier. Perhaps her disdain for Colin was getting old, but she couldn't help the tiny smirk that crossed her face.
