Happy Holidays Errand

@Maggie Hawkins was a brilliant prefect that had approached Professor Horne with a business proposal, which was interesting considering she was- so young. But this business proposal involved an idea for a holiday errand for all students to participate in. It was understandable why she would go to an adult for this rather than another of her peers, a lot of items would need to be acquired for this holiday activity. Supplies that Farron was happy to provide. This seemed like an appropriate event following the CCP event that Farron took over after Professor Read had left. A celebration for all students of all backgrounds and religions (and non-religions) to come together and learn. On December 10th, well before the holidays and a non-class day, the Great Hall had been transformed. Well, the decoration transformation had already happened. But this time the four long tables for the houses had been packed with craft supplies, food, and posters that the young Maggie had made.
Snack Table

What would an errand be without snacks? Half of the Gryffindor table had a myriad of treats and goodies spread out for students. A cauldron was full of luxurious hot chocolate, constantly refilling as was the Hogwarts way. There were platters of holiday cookies of all cultures; sugar cookies, pizzelles, raspberry linzer, teacakes, krumkake, shortbread, florentines, gingerbread, and many more. The house elves had really outdone themselves. There was pumpkin juice and pumpkin pasties. Meat pies, mini tarts, cupcakes decorated like mistletoe (no kissing under them), and bowls of candy. Farron was sending students back to their dorms on sugar highs. Maybe she should send the Heads of House a cookie basket of their own. Perhaps the prefects too. Ah, no matter. This was at least after dinner, so the students wouldn't ruin their appetite.
Feel free to mention other types of holiday cookies being available.
Religious-Christmas Table

Throughout the other half of the Gryffindor table were little posters describing the holiday, some symbols, and the meaning behind the holiday should anyone be curious. There were two different activities students could fulfill here.

The first activity was the painting of a nativity scene that was made of clay. There were various acrylic paints, brushes, cups of water for washing the brushes, glitter, all the fun things for painting. Once dried (Farron can assist with the hot-air spell to speed up the process) they would be able to glue it down to a snowy baseboard. They could either use the glue provided, or the gluing spell if they knew it.

The second activity was the making of a tree topper. There was an option to either make a star topper or an angel topper. Both made out of foam to be colored with markers. Once they had finished their masterpiece they would glue it to the provided cones that were perfect for a nightstand decoration or to go on top of a tree at home.
Non-Religious Christmas / Holiday Table

Half of the Hufflepuff table was dedicated to students who may not celebrate anything in December, or celebrated Christmas with non-religious reasons. There was a place for every student at this errand, even those who didn't celebrate. Their crafts were themed around the winter season.

There was colored paper and scissors for students to make their own snowflakes. They would need to fold the paper in 4 and cut along the edges that were folded. They could unfold to reveal a snowflake! There was string provided for the students to be able to make a wintery garland, with dried fruits to disperse between the snowflakes.

The other involved making a puffball snowman. There were a few bowls of various sized white puffballs. As well as one bowl with tiny black puffballs for eyes and the mouth, and another with googly eyes. Tiny scarves, mittens, sticks, hats, any clothing the students wanted to put on the snowman were available. If they wanted to make more, they were free to use the scissors and papers to craft some.
Hanukkah Table

The other half of the Hufflepuff table was dedicated to the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, the festival of lights. The posters, as pictured above, were distributed throughout the table for those who didn't know about the holiday. As well as instructions for two different crafts.

The first activity was painting a dreidel, as well as instructions on how to play dreidel. The wooden dreidels provided had the translation of the Hebrew letters to help the students learn how to play. There were tiny paint brushes provided to get into the carvings of letters and translations, and a myriad of paints for the students.

There was also an activity for students to create their own menorahs. They would cut a paper plate in half and glue the edges together, leaving an open pocket on the side that they cut. They could color and decorate this how they wished. There were also cut-outs of candles for them to color, one slightly larger than the rest for the candle they're supposed to "light" the others with. They would put eight regular sized candles and one larger sized candle in the middle of them. Then there was provided ribbon so students could attach a length to the back to hang it up in their dorms.
Kwanzaa Table

Kwanzaa was a holiday that didn't get a ton of recognition around the holidays, but here it took up half the Slytherin table for students to learn about it and participate in its traditions.

The first activity was the ability to make their own unity cup. For students to think about their own ancestors, muggle and wizard alike. There were wooden goblets available for students to paint, as well as string for students to paste on as they wanted. Mod-podge and sponge brushes were available in order to seal it to make it safe to drink out of.

The second activity wasn't so much as a craft, but a thought activity for the students. What were their seven pillars and why? There was parchment and quill for the students to write it out. There was room for them to spread out around the Great Hall if they wanted to do this in privacy.
Yule Table

Yule was the holiday most celebrated by the wizards of the world, so it had it's place on the other end of the Slytherin table.

There were mini Yule Log cakes available for being iced and decorated with mini sugar creations of woodland creatures, mushrooms, and holly. There were spatulas, icing bags, bowls of icing, sprinkles, everything to decorate this delicious confection. Farron had her eyes on this activity, more for the sweet than anything.

The other activity for Yule was creating a wreath out of pine branches and pinecones. There was also dried fruit such as oranges, cranberries, and lemons to help decorate it. Twine was provided to help students keep the pine in a circle as they worked. The perfect decoration for a dorm.
Craft Table

For students that didn't feel comfortable participating at any of the other tables. The Ravenclaw table was filled from end to end with all of the crafting supplies students could want. Paint, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, glue, glitter, paper, scissors. If the student needed it, it was probably there. Students were also welcome to come to this table to grab specific supplies for their crafts at the other tables. This was an all-encompassing table for students to come participate.

Oliver had arrived at the great hall amazed how it had transformed. Aside from the normal seasonal decorations, there were now many different sections about the different religions and how they celebrated Christmas. He was one of the early people since he didn’t see many other students. As he walked around looking at the different booths, his attention floated to first, the crafts table filled with all the art supplies he could ever dream of! Then after a while of looking, he noticed a booth on one half of the Gryffindor table, about Jesus Christ. He was naturally drawn towards this section since he was a Christian. He had seen the activities that he could do here and quickly got excited. He was to paint a model of the sacred scene when Mary gave birth to Jesus. He was also tasked to paint a tree topper. He had a choice, an angel or a star. He didn’t know which he would choose, but he put that aside, he would paint the model first. He was mostly excited since anything with art involved was exciting to him already.

He went to the designated Crafts table that was on the Ravenclaw table and He got a good look at all the art supplies. These art supplies weren’t the cheap kind either, it was the high quality kind. Quickly but carefully, he looked around for anything that would help him finish the first activity but also make the model look beautiful. It was very hard to choose the art materials since some art materials didn’t go well with each other. He wanted his model to practically glow. For that to happen he needed top notch supplies! He kept looking and picking up, but putting down materials he thought would be fit, but turned out not to fit very well. After a good 10 minutes, he had collected ( surprisingly ) only a few art materials that would help him in making the model, different colored markers ( the good kind that he loved using ), some paint ( the kind of paint that he had not yet used yet), a bit of glitter ( that would literally, make his model shine ) and some tape ( to help when he was painting ). He started to walk back to the Gryffindor table, determined to make this model his masterpiece!

Once he got to the table, he started using the paint to put on the basic color scheme on the clay model of the Nativity scene of Jesus while also using the tape to act as a border as to where the paint had to stop he had messed up a bit but he quickly found a way to fix the problem. Soon enough, he had finally finished that part and he started using the glitter he had. Barely avoiding dropping the yellow glitter, he put it on the top of every part of the model that had yellow on it, then covered the ground of the model with black glitter. His model was starting to look better the more he had progressed. He had done this while the paint was wet so that it wouldn't just get blown off. He took a break to admire his work and eat some snacks from the other side of the Gryffindor table, but he knew he had to get back to work! Then, he used the markers to add some darker shades to the basic parts of the model to make it much much more realistic, then he was finished. He had to admit, this was the best piece of art that he had ever done!

Then he moved on to the next activity, not as challenging as the first one, but it still would be a small challenge! He liked challenges. Especially when the art would test his patience and artistic skills. He returned all of the art materials he had borrowed except some markers and the glitter. He was trying to decide what tree topper he would draw on. It was a very hard choice. He wanted to do both but he didn't think that was allowed. A bit disappointed that he had to only do one of them, he returned to the Gryffindor table. He had decided that he was going to draw on the angel tree topper. He first started drawing on it ( very carefully ) with the marker. It took a while to finish this since he was going slow but careful. It wasn't as complex as the model he had done just a few minutes ago but it was somehing. He used the glitter and put it on top of the tree topper to top it off. He liked how it had turned out. A glowing angel. He wasn’t as proud as the model he had made, but for him, all works of art, no matter how big or how small, are still beautiful.

Ava had just come from the library. She was grinning from ear to ear. If anyone were to ask her why she was so happy, she wouldn’t have an acceptable response. She had been planning to jump into the lake with friends. They had all agreed to go in December 16th, which was the day she had first done magic. Best to mark the day with some cold water and friends…and possibly a detention. No—and for sure a detention. She decided she would tell anyone who asked why she was so happy that she had gotten an O in potions, which would be a great improvement from the first class where she had exploded something! It was partially her fault for not going to bed earlier, but—oof! She’d walked smack dab into the wall during her daydreaming. The door was right next to her too. She had to smack her face as she walked into the great hall, though still grinning merrily.
I already have a prefect who offered to get us in trouble, so no need to owl me asking

The tables each had different holiday cards and craft supplies on them, but the griffindor table had food. Ava had an idea, so she headed for the snack table. A pot of steaming hot cocoa that she assumed would refill itself was there, along with sugar cookies, each decorated festively. Ava only had to look a moment to find some marshmallows to use for her craft. Her eyes twinkled as she poured herself a cup of hot cocoa. Make that two. She loaded one up with marshmallows so you couldn’t see the drink any longer. Although she was partially stuffed from dinner, she could always fit a warm cup of cocoa in her stomach. She chugged half of it quickly, luckily not burning her tongue at all. She set the other cup without marshmallows on the table. Grabbing only 5 marshmallows, she placed them to make eyes and a nose. She would probably need more for the beard. She grabbed a few more and lined them around the rim of the cup. When it was done she had to readjust the marshmallows twice before it looked like it was supposed too. Feeling proud, she left the decorated cocoa on the table and brought her half-full cup with her to another table.

She moved to the table with christmas cards. Ava didn’t even bother to read through the cards, because with 12 Christmas’s under her belt, she was sure she knew Christmas well enough already. She debated what to make. Another santa maybe? It seemed a little easy. Maybe a tree, or a reindeer or an elf… An elf! That would be perfect! She wasn’t the best drawer, but she made a stick figure on paper and cut it out. She drew some shoes, a hat, shirt and pants on green paper. The shoes would have jingle bells on them, as well as the shirt. She cut out the smallest circles she could on yellow paper and glued them to the respective article of clothing. She glued the clothing onto thee stick figure, and, feeling quite proud of herself, drew some eyes and a nose onto it as well. Sure, maybe it was a little creepy, but it was adorable! Kind of. Well, not really. But creepy was her kind of cute. She would tape it onto her bed on her dorm. Perfect, scare all her dorm mates to death when they woke up in the morning. She added some jagged black hair just to complete the look. Emo Elf.

“I’ll name you…Benny. Benny is a good name for an Emo Elf! Oh, but everyone will call you Ny, and pronounce it like rye, but with an n. Perfect! Welcome to the world, little Ny!”

She clasped her hands together happily, glad that the elf now had a name. Everything needed a name to be good. If it had no name than you hadn’t gained anything from the experience. No name no gain. What a funny slogan. She drifted back to the snack table again, surprised to see that cocoa santa had disappeared. No matter. She downed the remaining chocolate drink and grabbed a sugar cookie to eat. A quick taste of the frosting told her that she should grab 5 more to be happy. Although it was somewhat childish, she scraped off all the frosting an put it in her mouth, and threw the cookie away. So mature, that was her! She realized she had left Ny at the last table and rushed over to grab him so she could take him back to her room. Feeling quite satisfied and content, she left the great hall to go and find her common room, of which she still couldn’t locate by herself, much to her dismay. She had tape on her fingers so she could hang up her creation on a post of her bed. What a wonderful day, it had been.

The last thing Sebastion was wanting to do was to make a mess of himself...

And the exact thing he did, was just that. over at the craft table, he decided to hover around the section that included magickly cutting paper into snowflakes that would dance around the great hall over the course of the holidays. Knowing full well that he would rather be decorating a yule log cake (and let's face it, licking the frosting as well), going over to the Slytherin's table scared the bloody hell out of him. especially with the ghosts looming in and out of the halls. He was also avoiding Nearly-Headless-Nick, who somehow had managed to attach bells to a ghost horse and was flying around a corner of the great hall bleating out the song "Jingle Bells".
with his image in mind, he set off to cut out the best snowflake, determines to out-do all the others (respectfully, of course).
thinking of how to start his "masterpiece", Sebastion pointed his cherry wood and unicorn hair wand at the piece of crisp white paper and mumbled a cutting charm he had learned from his professor not more than 3 days ago.
"*snipping charm*" Sebastion casted and watched with delight as the paper started folding itself and small snips could be heard from the scissors that had been supplied.
soon, his delight turned to concern as snowflake after snowflake kept being cut.
"HOLY MOTHER OF SNOWFLAKES" he shouted to himself, internally cussing out the awkward choice of words. As soon as he had spoken those words, almost every head at the table turned towards him and saw an interesting scene.
and certainly, a sight it was, that a sea was forming of paper snowflakes. mumbling spells and charms left and right to try, with no avail, to get the mound of snowflakes to stop growing.
"Help-" he squeaked as snowflakes started going up to his knees. he could see 2 snickering students about a meter or two across the table silently giggling while exchanging looks with each other and then looking back to Sebastion. All was so funny to them until a fairly aggressive pair of scissors snipped out a snowflake and spit it out onto their faces. they shrieked to each other while the scissors were dancing around their heads cutting even more snowflakes. Sebastion knew not to laugh, even though it was tempting because they had done it first, and quickly tried a quick spell he knew would be a little reckless but would certainly get the two students out of the dangerous situation they were in.
with a flick of his wand, he shouted "Incendio".
instantly the snowflakes around the kids went up in a rise of flames, and as soon as it had happened, the ashes of the papers fell to the floor. The scissors also fell to, meaning Sebastion wasn't drowning in a pile of a paper snowstorm anymore. The pupils looked at Sebastion and down at themselves and brushed the remaining soot off from their robes with their hands.
At this point, they had gained they attention of practically everyone in the great hall, including more than a few prefects and teachers.
"Umm... I'm sorry about that-" he mumbled shyly to the people across the table as they were still eyeing him with a look of disbelief. " That wasn't on purpose I promise!" he quickly clarified.
"The covering us in paper snow or the almost burning us alive-" one of them pointed out.
Sebastion sighed to himself " both really I guess" he was so ashamed because not only had he messed up such a simple task, but he also had two people who hated him now! what the heck was he going to do?
"Hey, don't worry about it" the other one spoke. "I didn't mean to bully you when I was laughing- it was just a humorous situation! you know?"
" Yeah," the other one replied. "Plus, even so, that was a sick thing you did with the fire there"
they both gave him a sweet smile. laughing to himself Sebastion said " yeah I would probably laugh to I walked in on someone in an avalanche of magic paper snowflakes"
the three of them smiled at each other while they figured out what to do with the leftover paper-flakes (as Sebastion had decided to call them) still all around him on the ground.
" Well," a teacher said, walking up to them. "I certainly think we have enough snowflakes for the hall now. Just try to be a little more carful next time Mr. Carelles?"
" of course, professor." he replied, as politely as he could to avoid getting into further trouble (even though he really wasn't anyways).
he looked over at the two other students, " well, I'll see you guys around i guess?"
" definitely" they replied with a smile"
maybe today wasn't as much of a mess after all, he thought.

House Colours: Gryffindor
Wearing red only because it had been in the Christmas spirit (and because his green eyes complimented the "ugly" Christmas sweater), Piérre snuck into the Great Hall with his lovely little kitten Figaro. The "ugly" Christmas sweater was a bit of a cliché one, the classic red, green and white sort of look to it; reindeer, patterns, the shabang. (It's pretty much my current pfp). Heck, it even included a very dapper and polite tie that matched the suit.

And then we reached what was going on with Piérre's lower half's wardrobe. That is to say, this is really where the train crashed and burned the eyes with just how obnoxious it was. Either Piérre was currently wearing what should have been pajama bottoms or he was wearing long underwear/leggings. Either way, it was impossible to tell, was bright red, and were it not for the politeness of wearing his shirt and the "suit" untucked, it was probably waaaaaaaaaaaay too tight with elastic/spandex for a young man to be wearing casually. Still, it somehow seemed that Piérre was totally oblivious to any stares or passing remarks that he would have received on his looks or the way that he so nimbly slipped through clouds in the tight clothing. Indeed, it was almost comfortable (for him anyways), to feel so sleek and light on his feet. It made him feel like a gymnast or an acrobat. At least the winter boots would forgive some of the Britalian's fashion sins; but those too would not be able to cover for the jingling shin-high socks that he was wearing over those same leggings, causing him to jingle with every step. Combined with his facial features and his piqued ears, he looked not terribly unlike a christmas elf gone rogue. Heck, he had even worn a felt deer antler headband with their own jingle bells.

In conclusion, Piérre Marchonné was a jingly, obnoxiously colorful, perhaps incorrectly dressed for the occasion... individual.

I believe that is the only word for him at the moment; Piérre was most certainly an... individual of-- ahm-- unique proportions.

Another errand by the Astronomy professor, however... someone that Piérre had been quite warming up to over the past year. She was one that had lasted longer than most of the others, and her methods of teaching (though more "friendly") were easy to relate to. It made learning in her class much easier than Piérre had had prior experience with; three stoic and frankly quite scary professors who had stuck around for a year at max and had then flown the coop. Maybe this professor would have more luck with retention, or perhaps Piérre would have fun playing a game where he tried to see how long it took for him to frustrate or entirely confuse a professor altogether. That was always a lot of fun when done right. Just enough to amuse the professor, most likely, and most definitely his ability to amuse himself with his own silliness.

But, none of that today. Today was a day where Piérre was going to be at least marginally containable in his excitement and his chaos. Christmas was already well on its way, and so naturally the entire school was revved up and getting ready for final tests and also for Christmas Break. Even thinking about Christmas break caused Piérre to get a little fidgety and worried about what this break would bring. He had... somehow... managed to convince his sibling to come home for Christmas. In the excitement, Piérre had remembered that he was flat broke. He needed to make something quickly and yet also worthwhile and worthy to be a sort of apology present for his kin.

So... here he was, at an arts and crafts place and trying to make a nice, if a little bit cheap present. Maybe he could swing by Hogsmeade later to buy something even nicer eventually, but for the time being, it was likely a good idea to have something ready to gift as opposed to just showing up and being a lump on a log, right?

Collecting his resources, the boy ensured that he had the things that he needed in order to start painting Piérre huffed a bit as he toyed with the little details of the creche. He didn't really like how everything was already secured on it. They had been encouraged to glue their creations in order to secure them and ensure that they didn't break... but Piérre didn't quite think that that was much fun. When he had been younger he had had a child's creche that was made up of a bunch of plastic statuettes (non-choking hazard, of course), and he had gotten to play with those practically indestructible figurines all during Christmas. He remembered vividly how rough he had been with it, how he had accidentally dented the sheep and cracked the three kings, and how he had eventually somehow managed to misplace Jesus himself somewhere in the house. Even today, Piérre had no idea where his Lord and Savior had ended up. God himself only knew.

On the other hand, Romeo had been so gentle and delicate with his own items and toys; it had marveled Piérre how his twin's large hands still managed to tender each object and treat them as if they were made of glass and would shatter at the slightest impact. Romeo knew how to take care of his items, and perhaps because of that Piérre felt inspired to regift a creche to his twin.

So, with careful hands without the most remote tremble, green eyes were literally inches away from each statue (having surgically separated them with a Diffindo) as a delicate brush traced colors and patterns on each statuette. Piérre would do the main creche after he had finished the careful work. The careful work had to be carefully done, lest an accidental splash or paint tracing cause the whole project to be ruined. In this way, Piérre spent well over an hour agonizing over the animals and the smallest, tiniest details on the human figurines.

He was going to be here for a while; he would also likely have to be told to leave when everyone else left before him. That was part and parcel of the obsessions of Piérre; when he started a project, he lost track of time and found it so immensely difficult to tear his attention away and focus on something else that needed to be done in a reasonable timeframe. Even if he didn't finish his little obsessive pet project before the entire Great Hall had to be cleared out, the boy placed it into his enchanted satchel and then proceeded to spend the entire night in the Niffler Nook continuing to paint by the light of a Lumos Solem for as long and as late as he had to.

He went to bed at 4 in the morning that night.

It was late evening and Gabriel had just finished writing to his parents. Their last owl had been much disappointing, to Gabe's surprise. The possibility of his parents visiting his brother in France had been brought up, which meant Gabe's only option would be to stay at the castle for the holidays. He did not hesitate to list his many concerns and dismays at the thought of not going home for the holidays in his letter. I mean, the holidays were his favorite part of the year! A nice break from everything to just enjoy time with family.

After writing quite rapidly and literally stabbing the parchment with his quill for the last word, he put his quill down and closed the ink bottle. Frowning slightly, he sealed the letter and rose from his bed.
The dormitory was empty as everyone else was enjoying the last hours of the day, it was time he did something too he supposed. He pulled on his freshly cleaned school robes and drowsily made his way to the Great Hall before going to the Owlery. To Gabe's astonishment, all the tables in the Great Hall had been piled with different craft supplies instead of their usual decorations.

Each table had different religion-based decorations, for the way different people celebrated (or didn't celebrate) Christmas. Each had a different task to create decorations based on how you celebrated the holidays, what a fun activity to join in on! He made his way over to the Gryffindor table like always and examined the contents. Half of the table was lined with a variety of snacks. Mini pies, sugar cookies, pumpkin pasties, all of his favorites! The other half of the table had many supplies and was based on Christianity. This pleased Gabe as he was a Christian and the supplies were right next to the snacks. Before starting on his decoration, Gabe poured himself a cup of hot chocolate and sprinkled cinnamon in it. He also grabbed a couple sugar cookies and nibbled on one as he thoroughly examined the supplies. He was tasked to make a tree topper, a star or an angel. After careful consideration, he decided to make an angel. Carefully he cleared a spot for him to lay out his supplies and started grabbing the perfect amount of foam.

An angel topper. What would be the right way to put it together? Glue? String? No, no, this required pipe cleaners. He grabbed a handful of white pipe cleaners and placed them neatly next to his foam. He carefully started cutting parts of his foam off to glue the pieces together. One by one he made a foam body, a foam head, a foam halo and a foam arm. He was about to make legs, but it was an angel! This took about 20 minutes and Gabe was fully concentrated. He carefully started gluing the foam pieces together using pipe cleaners to stabilize the arms and halo. Eventually, Gabe took a small break from his craft and ate the rest of his sugar cookies. The sugar cookies tasted amazing, but he was stuffed from dinner, which meant no more snacks for him. He went back to his craft and realized he forgot to shut the glue, so some of it dried over. Quite stupidly, he faced the glue towards him and started picking off the dried glue from the bottle. Suddenly, some other first year girls burst into the Great Hall, scaring the living daylights out of Gabe. This craft had made him hyper focused, and he was in his own world. It was as if he forgot about everything else for a moment.

After pretending not to have jumped what seemed to be five feet in the air because of the outburst, he went back to the glue. The glue. Because of the surprise, he squeezed the glue bottle. Which was facing him and his new clean school robes. He quickly rose from the table and had the urge to completely take off his robes right there. His eyes narrowed as he looked for the girls who caused this mess. There was no point in leaving, his craft was almost finished. He slowly sat back down scowling. He finished the angel, using as little glue as possible. He had enough glue for a lifetime after this.

Gabe was obviously being a tad overdramatic but who could blame him? He glued his tree topper to the cone provided and waited 10 minutes for the glue to dry. After the glue had dried, Gabe took one more glass of hot cocoa to relax himself before going back to his dormitory. He carefully cleaned up all of his supplies, careful to seal the glue this time. He took his finished decoration and felt a sense of pride. He had never considered himself artistic, but this was one of the best things he has created. Maybe the mess of the glue was worth it. He had decided to send the decoration in a package to his parents along with the letter he had written earlier. It had been...an interesting day and Gabe was ready to go to sleep.

Colin had had a long day, but still he was pretty keen to head back up to the great hall after relaxing by the fire in the common room. There was another Christmas errand being offered, and this one didn't seem to be at all likely to bring him to tears as the last one. It was the first time he'd taken Clair's sage advice to write letters to Liam, and it had been a hard letter to write! She was right though, and he Colin now understood why she had done the same after her Ma died. Colin smiled as ran up all 467,893 steps that led from the dank, dark, and dreary dungeons that were Snakehome and the Manse of Basiliskdom up into the outer world of light and fresh air. His heart pounded at the thought of Clair being such a smart girl!

When he did get into the great hall at last, he was not at all disappointed by the array of stuff on all the tables! Colin could smell the meat pies before he ever got into the place, and hot choco as well! He'd endure one of Selwyn's detentions if it meant hot choco and minced meat pies! He scanned the hall to see if any friends had shown up yet.

Or anyone else interesting, anyway!

The currents of air coming from the broad doorways brought interesting news to Colin's nose! The scent of pine and holly and ivy, of course, as well as treats, and a certain kitty cat that was well known to him --- Colin blushed slightly at the recollection --- as well as the boy said kitty cat belonged to! And as Colin wandered up to the snacks table, he could see that said boy was already engrossed in a very delicate and beautiful project that would, rather surprisingly Colin thought, not actually end with a prank where Piérre would find himself suspended by Regina Miller's rather powerful casting!

He caught sight of a Hufflepuff trying to make a mess of things. Must have been an older kid the way he was casting every spell he knew! And a Ravenclaw who was similarly engrossed in a painting project. He also saw a fellow Slytherin who seemed quite happy with making cards. But having loaded up a plate of meat pies and mug of hot choco, Colin decided to tuck in at the Slytherin table. There he found all kinds of pine boughs and cones and sprigs of holly and vines of ivy. Perfect for making a couple beautiful wreathes!

I had just finished dinner and had headed to the library for some studying. I was pulling out my transfiguration book when I heard some chatter from some second years. “Did ya hear about the Christmas errand in the great hall?” One girl said to another. That was all I had to hear. Christmas and an errand that seemed fun?

I had already done two errands, one where we tried to solve problems in the wizarding world, and one where we wrote letters about what we thought the true meaning of Christmas was. I had enjoyed those but I was excited for this one.

I packed up my stuff and hurried to the great hall. There were already quite a few students already there, seated at the various stations. There were seven stations, them being: snack/ deserts, Christian, non religious, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Yuletide, and the craft table. I had my heart set on doing them all.

The first table I stopped at was the Christian table. I had learned about this from my friend Simon, he had told me all about Jesus and the Bible. I still wasn’t sure if I believed but it was hard to say no to a craft. The craft was a clay nativity scene, which the pictures looked cool. I picked up a lump of the cool clay and began shaping it into the people, and the manger.

When I finished I stood up and admired my work. Beautiful. I grabbed a paper and wrote: DO NOT TOUCH. -Charlie I was letting the clay dry and harden while I checked out some other tables.

I decided to go to the non- religious table, and check out what it had to offer. There were two options for the craft, making paper snowflakes and a puffball snowman. I went with the puffball snowman, so I could give it to Zara my cat who loved puffballs. I hot glued the puffballs together then added a black top hat with feathers coming out of the top. Zara liked feathers. I drew on the eyes, buttons, nose, and mouth. It was so cute. “I’m gonna name you Frank. Franklin the snowman.” I grabbed Frank and set out for the snack table.

I was hungry, so the snack table was the perfect table to check out. I went right to the sugar cookies, and picked out three, a Santa hat, a snowflake, and a candy cane. I also grabbed a chocolate peppermint mini tart. I ate the snowflake cookie, and took the three other deserts over to the location of my next craft.

I decided to stop off at the Hanukkah table. I knew nothing about Hanukkah, except that Jewish people celebrated it. It seemed fun, you play draidel, and light the candle thingy. I read the passage on Hanukkah, and it turns out the candle thingy is called a menorah! I decided on doing the craft where you paint a draidel, and even write the translations of the Hebrew on it. First I painted the draidel a beautiful dark blue color, as the backround color. Then on each side I painted a square with rounded corners, using a light blue, making sure it didn’t cover up to much of the dark blue. Then I spent a ton of time practicing drawing the symbols, making sure I got them correct. When I was finally ready, I took a dark blue paint and carefully painted on the symbols. They weren’t as good as some of the examples but you could tell what it was. I took some of the the light blue paint, and touched up some of my mistakes. I let that side dry as I finished all of the other sides.

Once I was finally done, I took my stuff back to my spot at the table with my clay. I set my draidel aside, and tried to see if my clay was dry. It was. I headed over to the extra craft table, which has various supplies sperrst out all over it. A brilliant idea. I noticed a girl who looked really familliar.

“Ava! Nice elf!” I said as I picked up the paint that was sitting next to her. “Have fun!” I said, as I walked away.

I went back to finishing my manger. I painted baby Jesus, the Wise men, Mary and Josef, and even a little sheep and donkey. When it was finally done, I admired it, proud of my hard work. I left it next to the dreidel.

I moved on to the Kwanza table, and read all about the holiday. I had heard of this one before but knew nothing about it. I learned about something called a unity cup, and decided I should make one. I took one of the cup bases that was set out on the table and I used some of the paint I had used on the draidel. I painted green, blue and purple stripes on the cup. Then I added a triangle and painted a red heart in the triangle. I began to cover it in mod poge so I could actually use it. I set it next to my magnger as I headed back to the snack table.

I picked out the cookies and a hot chocolate, as I took them over to the Yule table. I had never heard of Yule… until now. I chose to decorate one of the Yule logs, even though I knew it was going to turn out horrible. I took a big scoop of brown frosting and plopped it on, trying my best to spread it all over the log. I used a fork to give the log some texture. I drew some fake leaves and some red holly, admiring my work as I sipped on my hot chocolate.

Overall, I had made five crafts and all of them looked cool. They would each earn their place in my trunk, well except for the Yule log cake of course, which would be eaten. I smiled as I headed back to my dorm, with my arms full with my crafts.

“Another errand?!” Ayuna couldn’t believe her ears. That was great news- more fun and sickles!

She grabbed her bed from the bedside table and put her necessities inside: a wand, a hot bottle of tea, and a book about spells- that was all she really needed these days. Then, the girl put on a simple white blouse with a long, casual blue sweater. She tied her dark brown hair into two pigtails fastened with a black ribbon and let them lay on her shoulders. Then she pulled up black tights and big, spunky leather boots and scurried to Great Hall in record speed.

She was fascinated, absolutely fascinated by the scene in the Great Hall. The house tables were filled with different activities and snacks. Some students had already came and they were gladly doing the activities and chatting with each other. She quickly went and joined her fellow students at the snacks table. The scent of meat pies and hot chocolate could be smelled a mile away! Yak about delicious, perfect for the holiday spirit.

She noticed a boy with white hair wearing a Slytherin kilt with no shoes on?! Ayuna was a bit, OK not just a bit but extremely surprised. The boy was wandering near her apparently, so the girl went up. “Hi there! Are you enjoying this event? ” she greeted, blushing a bit, her face pinker than usual.

While waiting for the boy to reply, Ayuna examined a clay figure of the nativity scene painting. Remembering the painting best as she can, she moved her brush gradually- not wanting to make any mistakes- along the sides of the clay. She then cautiously tipped the silver glitter slightly, making Mary’s dress Ravenclaw blue with silver, glittering linings. Then, the girl dipped her brush into some yellow paint and made Jesus’s hair blonde. She smiled proudly at her handiwork.

Out of the sides of her eyes, the girl noticed a boy who looked like a Christmas tree. He was wearing all green and red with bells ringing whenever he moved. She giggled at the sight.

Putting the finished piece into her bag to decorate her dorm, Ayuna proceeded to the Slytherin table for the Yule activity. She wasn’t intimidated by Slytherins so just walked right over without a moment of hesitation.

There were Yule logs being decorated with sugar figures like woodland creatures and plants. Different kinds of icing and sprinkles was placed upon the table. Ayuna took a Yule log and began to decorate, squeezing a thin line of brown icing alone the tip. Then, she picked out a darker brown icing and covered the outside of the log. Grabbing a sugar deer and some holly leaves with berries, the girl placed them on the plate. She placed the deer beside the log and put the rest on the edge of the cake. Perfect! “I’m a natural designer! ” she murmured proudly.

Ayuna was quite hungry after she finished her cake so she wet to the snack table to refresh and eat. Grabbing some Christmas tree cookies and meat pies, the girl munched on them, clearly quite enjoying the treat. Then, she drank a cup of warm hot chocolate. Delicious!

Wandering around the hall, Ayuna decided to stop at the Kwanzaa table. She took a goblet and began to make her own unity cup. Dipping her brush into some blue paint, the girl began to paint her cup Ravenclaw. When she finished, she used a sponge brush to seal the cup carefully.

Besides making the cup, there was also a question of what is her seven pillars. Taking a piece of parchment and a quill, she began to write.
my seven pillars
  • confidence
  • wisdom
  • courage
  • honesty
  • kindness
  • competitive
  • impartial
Soon, Ayuna finished the list of her seven pillars. She slipped the paper into her bag and made her way to the Non-Religious Christmas / Holiday Table. The students theee were cutting out snowflakes and the girl couldn’t wait to try. She saw a Hufflepuff boy who had a mount of snowflakes in front of him but the scissor is keep cutting out more and more. The boy looks as if he’s casting every spell he knows.

It is extremely rude to laugh at other people, especially those in a problem. But Ayuna couldn’t help it. She released a chuckle when she couldn’t keep the laughter in any longer. “Excuse me. ” she said politely, and cut out some snowflakes herself.

She folded the paper 4 times, then cut it in such a way that when she opened the paper again, a snowflake was revealed! She went on and made some winter garlands, hanging the snowflakes on some blue string and occasionally putting some dried plants and fruits in between.

Bailey was finishing her dinner and preparing to eat a slice of cake when a pair of fourth years passing behind her mentioned another errand.
It was December 10th, and Bailey was not surprised that there was another errand. They always happened by the handful around the holiday season.
Finishing her slice of cake Bailey stood up, looking around for her best friend, Kim. As she did not see him, she headed to the entrance to the Griffindor common room. Knocking on the entrance, Bailey again asked for Kim. When he appeared, Bailey gave him a quick hug before latching onto his hand and dragging him back to the Great Hall.
Arriving at the Greta hall, Bailey stopped and looked around. She let go of Kim’s hand, and said “Looks like you go to the table to applies to you- so I’m gonna go to the Religious Christmas table- ohh snacks, I’m going to grab some of those first. So… I’ll meet up with you when we’re both finished? Or you can follow me, I really don’t care.”
Bailey walked over to the snack table. She glanced around, wondering if Coco would be at the Religious Christmas table- Bailey knew they both were Catholics, and she figured she’d probably see him.
unless he’s hanging out with @Clair Fernandez Bailey thought, gathering up some snacks. Bailey got a large variety of foods, including one of each type of cookie she saw- sugar cookies, pizzelles, raspberry linzer, teacakes, krumkake, shortbread, florentines, gingerbread, kolachky (a Polish cookie/ pastry which Bailey had made many times with her family- it made her a little homesick to see it.) and many more! Bailey stopped with those 9 cookies, before grabbing a glass of milk to accompany the cookies.
Baileys then walked over to the Griffindor table, where the Religious Christmas crafts were set up.
Setting her food down, Bailey started on the first of the two crafts- painting a naivety set up. The second craft was making a Christmas tree topper, which Bailey would attempt to make later.
Bailey started, pulling over some paint as she munched on a cookie- a sugar cookie to be specific. Bailey painted the base brown, and the roof was also painted brown. Bailey added more details on the roof, in a complementing but slightly darker brown shade.
Taking her time, Bailey painted grass on the side of the nativity barn. She was quite detailed oriented, and thanks to her mum, loved paining and had quite a bit of experience doing so.
I should really get art supplies and paint more often Bailey thought as she was painting.
Finishing the painting, Bailey set it to the side as she started on the tree topper. She decided to make an Angel tree topper, and as she was drawing some green hair, Bailey realized she had made the topper look just like Kim- her best friend.
why do I do everything based about him?! It’s like everything I do I think about him…. But he’s just my best friend?
Finishing the angle, Bailey glued her nativity scene to the base that had been provided. Getting up, her crafts completed in her arms, Bailey took her bag and all of her stuff, and started wandering around looking for Kim.
Bailey did get sidetracked- she stopped by the snack table again, this time only takeoff a handful of kolachky. She made sure to slip a few into her bag, to show and feed to Kim later.
Then bailey stopped by the Ravenclaw table, which had free craft time. She decided to make an ornament, and setting her stuff down she got to work.
Bailey gently painted on a base coat- alternating stripes of red and blue. She added gold and silver loops around the top, and then as that dried snacked on some more treats. Her stomach now full, Bailey started on the main show. She painted on the likeness, or as much as she could, of her and Kim together. Both of them were smiling, and Kim’s smile looked genuine.
Bailey smiled softly at her masterpiece. She set it on the table to dry, and she started on a second one for herself. She fully intended to give the first one to Kim for Christmas, with the hope that when he saw it it would make him smile.
Both Bailey and Kim liked surprising the other with things- for Bailey, she loved making new foods and surprising Kim with them. They had a shared love of food, particularly baking, and Bailey had day dreamed many times about the two of them opening a bakery together somewhere.
Getting up after putting the finishing touches on her ornament, and after they were both dry, Bailey tucked them into her bag. Just in case she saw Kim, she didn’t want to spoil the surprise. Bailey kept her angle topper out, grinning as she had the idea to give it to Kim when she saw him again. And with that, Bailey began her search for he best friend.
