One Hour 'til the Ball PV Damion White finished

Date: October 8th, 2022
Time: An hour before the Fall Ball
Dora hadn't expected this... fear.

She'd been to so many parties before that she thought she'd be used to them by now. But here, at Hogwarts, it's different. She'll have to face her peers and professors after today, she'll even have to face students visiting from other schools. And they'll all have seen her like... this.

Dora stands before a stained mirror, observing her own miserable form. The black dress practically swallows her whole. From the puffy sleeves her fingers barely peek out from to the collar of white ruffles that suffocate her neck. A color that once lent itself to discretion is now a spectacle that can't be missed.

It must be too tight, because Dora's finding it hard to breathe.

Her hands grip the sides of the sink and she breathes slowly. She has to go. She's an Everridge, and she must make an appearance, or it would damage the family reputation.

Then again, if she attends and gets laughed off, wouldn't that also ruin their reputation? Dora can practically hear her grandmother's voice scolding her. "You couldn't keep it together for one year, could you? Now your cousin will suffer from your tainted image!"

A tear falls into the old porcelain sink.

Damion was not sure what he was doing. He had been to balls earlier but he was not sure if he wanted to be part of it. But he knew what his friend would say. Dylan would want him to be a part of school events. Damii wanted to be part of the school events.

Damion was early. He had an hour before the event. He had been worried about his outfit. He had spent time- hours dressing himself up for the day. He was not sure if he would be going to this event. He had no date for himself.

Damii was just thinking of heading to the Ball. He was not sure if he would want to go to a party. But well he thought he would try again. Maybe it might be the right thing to do.

Damii walked into the Abandoned toilets. He was not sure why he was here. Maybe he wanted to see himself once more before he went to the ball. He was hoping things would be better than earlier.

He looked at the girl there who seemed to have tears in her eyes. "Something wrong?" He asked looking at her. He hoped that he was not interrupting her. "I am Damion White." He said smiling.

Dora looks up, startled at the appearance of an older boy in the bathroom. She quickly wipes the tears from her eyes, thankful that she isn't wearing makeup to smear it all over her face. She's sure she already looks dreadful enough, face pink and puffy. Her face only reddens more when she gets a better look at the boy. He's all dressed up for the ball, and he really is striking.

Embarrassed to be seen like this, Dora faces half away from him, eyes turned to the floor as if that would somehow obscure her from his sight. There's nowhere to hide, especially in this dress. It's big, practically to the point of swallowing her whole. Some parts are two large, like the bust and sleeves, and others are cinched painfully tight, like the waist and neck. She looks dowdy.

The boy isn't moving, and Dora swallows thickly. "I'm fine!" She tries to say, but her voice is still clogged with tears. "Really, it's not a big deal, it's not.. it's.." She loses her voice, her eyes wet again.

'What must he think?' Dora's mind scolds her. 'What would your grandmother say??'

Dora brings her hands up to cover her face, unsure what to do.

Damion looked at the younger girl who was crying. He hated seeing people cry. He was a kind soul. He didn't want to see people getting hurt at all. He wanted to help her out. He was not sure as of yet what he could do to make that happen. But he was not going to back off from it. He wanted to help her out no matter what. Something inside him he was tugging him to do that. He was not sure who she was or why she was crying here. But he couldn't not help. He didn't want to not be a helpful person.

Damion watched her as she faces away from him. Damion doesn't walk near her. He stays where he was. He didn't want to pry on what was going on with her. But he wanted to help her out. He couldn't stop himself from being a kind person. He wished that his kindness wouldn't get him in trouble. But he was not going to let that fear take him away from doing the right thing.

Damion looked at her and said "I don't think you are fine." He said. "Tell me what's wrong maybe I can help you?" He said looking at her. "Please let me help you out. Please." He said looking at her again. He didn't want to pry but he was hoping she would open up. "What's your name?" He said softly.

Slowly, Dora peeks out from behind her hands, face red. "...Isadora." She replies, as dignified as she can be in this position. "Isadora Everridge." Her voice is small and pitiable, as she knows she must look right now. Well, maybe not small in this dress. She gathers the excessive itchy fabric of her skirt up as she moves away from the sink, going to stand across from the stranger.

"I'm sorry you caught me like this." She says, trying to get her voice under control. This boy's eyes bore into her, and she feels so vulnerable before him. Immediately, her mind begins going through all the horrible possibilities. What if he tells someone about this, and they tell someone, and then the whole school knows? What if her family finds out? How could she cause such a scene knowing how it would affect them?

But, risking a glance at his face, Dora's surprised to see him looking worried. He doesn't know her or have anything to gain from helping her, so why would he? Or could he really be genuine?

Usually, Dora is good at keeping her feelings inside, but at the first sign of a kind face, like a broken tap, the truth begins to spill out. "I look silly. This dress.. this..." She gazes back at her reflection and winces. "It's ugly."

Dress description:
A black gown that is decidedly old-fashioned and ill-fitting on Dora. So many layers and ruffles it looks like it's trying to consume her.

Damion was still standing there, well he was now kneeling next to her. He was waiting for her to reply back and she didn't want to hurt her or make her feel like he was violating her privacy. He would never do that. He was a sweet boy. "Hello Isadora." He said smiling to her. He was not wanting to sound rude. He was still kneeling near her. He was not going to make any sudden movements and startle her.

"It is okay. I am sure that a wave from the magic wand would make your dress look pretty again." He said looking at her. He wanted her to see that he was not lying to her. He wondered what she could be thinking. Hoping that she didn't think he was not being honest. He would never be untruthful. He wouldn't lie to her about anything. He never believed in lying.

Damii had no idea how to assist her. He wished that she would tell her about it and let him help her so that he could make her look pretty.

"It's not ugly, Isadora." He said smiling. "Did you have something specific for the dress to the ball? Maybe a specific color or something?" He asked looking at her. "No I don't think you look silly in the dress."

After a week of stress building up to this Ball, Dora can't contain it anymore. So, she ends up basically pouring her heart out to this kind-seeming stranger.

"It is ugly, I know it is." She insists, "Or at least, it's too... much. My Grandmother is making me wear it and I just know she's doing it to punish me. God, I don't even know what I did this time."

She sinks down to the ground and the boy kneels next to her. He waits patiently, and she eventually catches her breath. "Everyone is so excited for this Ball, but I just want to disappear. I hate dancing in front of people, I'm terrible at talking to them, and I can't deal with all those eyes on me." She picks at the stuffy collar, trying to loosen it to no avail. "Can you honestly tell me that no one will stare at me? That they won't talk being my back about how miserable I look?"

"Did you have something specific for the dress to the ball? Maybe a specific color or something?"

"I don't mind the color black, but this much black? I look like puffy dark storm cloud.." She laments. "I hate this collar, these sleeves, all these layers... I just wanted something simple. Something unnoticeable."

Damion looked at her as he was not sure of what he could do for her. He wanted to help her out for sure. He listened to what she was saying and nodded his head. He didn’t agree that the dress was ugly. “Come Isadora. It’s not ugly.” He said. “Hey hey. Take a deep breath. We can figure out something to make it look better.” He said looking at her. He didn’t want her to panic.

She sinks down to the ground and the boy kneels next to her. He waits patiently, and she eventually catches her breath. "Everyone is so excited for this Ball, but I just want to disappear. "Can you honestly tell me that no one will stare at me? That they won't talk being my back about how miserable I look?"

Damion could see that she had sank down to the ground and he knelt next to her. He didn’t want to get to close to her. “Hey you won’t stand out in a crowd of people.” He said looking at her. “Hey you won’t have to deal with it.” He said trying to calm her down. He looked at her as she picked the stuffy collar. He was hoping she would stop. Her dress looked really pretty. “Well I can’t. But I can make your dress look better. I can promise you that. I won’t be lying to you.” He said. He didn’t want to lie to her about anything. He wanted her to know how things were going to be.

Damion looked at her as he heard what she was saying and nodding his head he said “Well let me make it better for you.” He took out his wand and cast the Multicorfors spell. He changed the way her dress looked. It was a sleeveless one with some silver embroidery on the sleeves and neck. “Do you like it now?” He asked. If she liked it, he would be her fairy godfather. But it all depended on whether she liked it or not.

Damion waves his wand over her and Dora's dress begins to change. The sleeves and the dozen skirt layers melt away like cotton candy, leaving a slimmer dress with short sleeves. The ruffled white collars comes loose and pulls apart until it's a silvery white thread, which embroiders itself onto her less restrictive black collar. The black color of the dress brightens ever so slightly from a dusty old darkness to a shade of shimmering night. Dora rises up as the dress changes, a black ribbon coming loose and traveling upwards to sweep her hair into a sleek bun. She gazes into the bathroom sink mirror in astonishment, taking in the change.

She looks... good. Better than she'd thought she could look in anything. She almost finds herself pretty. More importantly, the beauty of the dress is subtle and understated. If anyone looks her way, she'll appear as normal as anyone else. Forgettable. And yet, this isn't something Dora thinks she will ever forget.

"It's perfect.." She breathes, then turns to Damion with a perplexed expression. "But, you didn't have to do this for me. You don't even know me." Why would he be so kind to a complete stranger?

Damion had waved his wand and voila her dress had been better than before. He had even put some elegant touches on her dress like the silvery white embroidery. He smiled as he watches her. He was feeling very proud of himself. He was glad that he was able to help her out. He wouldn't have left her hanging. His parents had taught him better than that.

A smile spreads on Damion's face again as he looks at the dress that he had helped modify for Isadora. He was happy that he had done something like that. He had read Cinderella and he felt like a fairy godfather to Isadora.

Damion had not cared that he was a stranger to Isadora. He didn't want her to feel like she was the center of the attention and he had wanted to help her out as much as he could. He was not helping her because he had an exterior motive. He was helping her because he wanted to help her not because he was forced to help her out.

"I am glad you think it's perfect. He said. "It doesn't matter if I know you or just met you. You needed help and I helped you." He added with a little pause. "I couldn't just leave you here to cry when the ball starts soon" He said looking at her and smiling. "I hope you enjoy the ball." He added.
