The games were beginning. Kim, a Gryffindor third year I didn’t know very well, led us through a big black curtain, and all of the spectators sat in a long row of chairs off to the side. I had never done anything like this before, and was nervous. At least there was no magic involved, and it all depended on skill and strategy.

Kim began calling people up to platforms, and then either he was telling them to not die, or he was explaining the instructions. I hoped my partner was good at this, or at least everyone in my match would be around the same age, size and skill level. Group two came and went, consisting of Simon, a fellow dhaphmir, I had met and talked to. Just then, Kim called me, and three other people up onto platform three. Oh boy. This is it. my anxiety rose and I took deep breaths and stuck and excited look on my face.

Kim began to explain the rules and I listened hard, probably harder than I ever had before. I didn’t want to mess this up for me and my new parter Oliver Brown. Kim finished explaining the rules, and he handed me and Oliver each a bucket of spiders. “Hello Oliver, I’m Charlie. Are you ready to do this?” I asked. Then we planned our strategy, and hoped for the best.

Oliver did not like his encounter with the prefect of his house. He had ( not intentionally ) offended him. Feeling a bit sad about what happened, he wanted to sit down and stay there for the rest of the night! But at that moment the host called out to everyone. She announced that the game would now start. Oliver was momentarily happy about this before remembering the events that had just occurred. He was sad and mad at the same time. Mad at himself. He put it at the back of his mind. There would be no way he would be victorious if his thoughts were clouded. He was nervous. He didn’t know what would happen. Following the host of the party to the room where there were platforms. He was caught off guard when the host called him to be partnered up with a girl, Charlie Jacobsen was her name. As he listened tot he rules intently, not wanting to cause any problems. The host handed him a bucket of spiders. He wasn’t scared of spiders. Real or fake. He went up to his partner and said in response ”Hi Charlie! Yep I am ready! But we need to plan this out- after all, strategy is the key to winning!” they discussed what they wanted to do in a huddle.

I had come to the party unawares that there even was a party, and now I was hearing of some game we were going to play. What was the game anyway? I followed the host, who I didn't know all that well, to a room with a bunch of platforms. Names were called, and when I heard mine in the mix, I whirled around, confused. Wait...I was being partnered up with somebody! I recognized the name, Tasia. I knew her since I joined a newspaper club run by her. That's when the host, Kim, started explaining the rules of the game. Throwing spiders at people? That sounded like fun! I was given a bucket. I looked inside and saw 3 fake spiders inside. A small part of me had wanted them to be real, believe it or not...the problem was that I was not very accurate, but I figured that this would be a lot like dodgeball, where you would be throwing and dodging at the same time. But my goal wasn't to win..."Hi, Taisia! I'm Aurora. Are you ready? Even if you're not, that's okay. I'm just ready to have fun, but we still might need to make a plan." I said. Okay, maybe it was a little about winning, too. But still, I was ready for this!

Moderation Post Round I

As soon as the last participant of Match 3 entered the piste, Cash get down from platform 4 and move to the other piste. Their green eyes bounced from one person to the next. Judging from their faces, they were not that experience when it comes down to Duelling-like settings. Cash could be their own selves who sometimes with less tacked or approached the matter with more gentleness since they are a Prefect, after all.

The nervousness was palpable and shone through their faces. The Beater took a deep breath. They could not throw insults. If they did, these younglings will feel more nervous than they already were. "Alright, lad and lasses,"The fourth-year addressed the group. "Aoki Kim Sato had explained to you how the game will work. All you got to do is stick those pesky sticky spiders towards your opponents,"The Slytherin Prefect who dressed up as Captain Jack Sparrow said.

"You ready? Let's get it on!"Cash makes a slicing motion signaling the beginning of the game. It seems these groups of first-years are eager to prove themselves to their peers. Their bright eyes and sunny disposition reminded them of someone the Quidditch player used to know. The first one who takes action in this group of four is Aurora Griffith.

The little badger chose to throw her sticky spider at Charlie Jacobsen but it fell a bit short and only landed with a plop in front of Jacobsen's feet without touching the Raven. "Just a bit more. Do not discourage just yet,"The Cuban descendant encourages the young Hufflepuff. Next up is Ravenclaw's young bird Taisia Stroudefielde.

She will take on her own housemate, Oliver Brown. But just like Aurora did, her aim was not enough to stick at the only boy in the group. "You can do it! Just believe in yourself,"Cash was so out of character but if it means making the first years more at ease, so be it. Their green eyes then landed on Jacobsen.

"You there,"They expressed while pointing at the girl. "The girl with a boy name"Cash then looked at the piece of paper containing all of the contender names. "I mean Jacobsen, you're up. Show me what you got, eagle!"They uttered. Charlie Jacobsen zeroed in her eyes at Taisia Stroudefielde but her aim was way off and fly directedly at Cash.

"Are you bli-,"The young Ironwoods cathing themselves before the insult flew passed their lips. "Her, Jacobsen, her! Not me,"Cash said as they pointed toward Taisia and shook their head. "These younglings, I swear,"Cash muttered to themselves and no one heard it except them. The last one who throws their spider would be Oliver Brown.

At first, Cash thought Oliver will share the same faith as his three other counterparts. But when the sticky spider stick directly to Aurora Griffith's stomach, the green eyes blinked. For a moment they were quiet. They could not believe what they just saw. But after all had been registered, Cash let out a broad smile.

"IT STUCK! THE SPIDER STICK, PEOPLE!"The young socialite screamed excitedly. Cash then looked at Oliver. "Congratulations and good job on your first try, Brown! Keep up with the good work,"Expressed the Prefect with a smile still etched on their face.

It was Aurora’s turn. She stares right at me and and my mind races.shoot. Crap. She’s going for me. I stood there, ready to jump out of the way. She squinted and then threw. I watched the spider sail through the air, and I slowly stepped to the side but stopped, and watched as the spider landed at my feet. I did it! I did it! I said in my head as I did a light fist pump.

Just them it was Tasia’s turn, and I found myself silently praying, again. Not me, not me, not me. She stared at my partner Oliver, and threw. Miss.

The moderator said it was my turn. There was something about her that I didn’t like, they had called me a ‘girl with a boy name,’ and wanted to yell at them, but they were a prefect and could land me a detention. I took a deep breath, shaking the negative thoughts from my head. Finally picked up one of the spiders they had provided. Welp. Here goes nothing! I thought as I chucked the spider, aiming for Tasia. I watched the spider fly across the room, and it was almost like it had wings and flew to Cash. Shi- I thought, and felt my face turn bright red. I looked down, wishing I had practiced my throwing.

Finally it was Oliver’s turn, and Just like we had discussed, he was going for Aurora. He aimed, aaaaand fired. IT HIT HER!! “YAY! Great job Oliver! Great great job!” I said as we celebrated.

The round was over so Oliver and I had to make another decision. Who would we target?

It was my turn. I didn't like going first in anything, for two reasons. Number 1, I couldn't see how good(or bad)everyone else was, and it gave me jitters a little. But no matter. I was a very good pitcher, I just wasn't so good when it came to accuracy. Unfortunately, the jitters always messed me up. That was a problem. I ignored it and swung. It traveled to the other platform and...it fell short. I groaned inwardly. The moderator, dressed up as Jack Sparrow, gave me an encouraging pep talk, and I felt a little better, but only a little. The match went on. The girl on the other team, I couldn't remember her name, threw a spider and it hit the moderator. Then it was the boy on the other team's turn. I froze, not sure what to do, and then- it stuck. I looked down to see a spider stuck to my middle. I felt my eyes widening 2 times their usual size, and I blinked. What happened? I felt a crazy desire to get back at the boy, who was addressed as Oliver by his teammate. I narrowed my eyes into slits. I would do better. I would. Funny how fast competition can change people...

Aurora and Taisia had both threw their spiders, missing both shots. Barely missing his foot, the other girl had even hit the moderator. He chuckled a bit when this happened. He couldn’t get distracted, he focused again on the game. He watched as Charlie, his team mate had threw her spider! It was just like what happened between the opposing team. ”Great Throw! It was close! You can do it next round for sure!” he told Charlie patting her back. It was his turn now, it was either he hit someone or missed. Squinting his eyes, he threw the spider. It stuck on Aurora’s stomach! Holy moly! He did it!! He looked at the girl that he had hit. She seemed to be in shock. She was looking at him. ”Hey! After this game, I hope theres no hard feelings! Win or lose, no grudges?” he shouted. He didn’t want to make enemies. He turned towards Charlie, she was congratulating him for the throw. He still hadn’t quite processed that it actually hit the opposing team. ”Alright, I think I know what we are gonna do next!” he told Charlie in a low voice. He proceeded to explain to her his well thought out plan.
