Ford had only just returned with the supplies when the brown-haired boy inquired about the spatula. Goat? The young Ravenclaw had to focus intently on the recipe to keep his eyes from rolling out of his skull. Though in spite of himself his mouth twitched. It was a strange expression, quite unlike the convincing false smile he had given earlier. The boy shook his head slightly, turning away so that the group could not sense his inner struggle. It was a terrible joke and on top of that it came from a person whom Ford was already beginning to dislike. Yet in spite of this he found himself fighting off laughter. Damn these puns.

Ford looked over his material, then began to measure things out with the spatula (which he had also grabbed of course. Silly of the other boy to worry about such matters.) Once he had everything in place, he looked to Eri. She had offered to light the fire, so presumably she was going to set up the equipment while Piper crushed the Bezoar. Though he had inwardly scoffed at the comment about nails, he was glad this was not his part of the assignment. Still, he would have a whole 40 minutes as the ingredients boiled over the fire... there was no doubt the boy would want to talk. Socialization would be inescapable.

When ford got back she had the fire lit and the cauldron setup. Now all they needed to do was prep the ingredients and put them into the cauldron for forty minutes before they could move on. But why did it have to be that long? She didn't want to socialize right then, cause obviously piper wanted to. And what was with the bad jokes? She didn't want to suffer through this any longer than she had to.

"Let's prep the ingredients and get them into the cauldron. Cause we have forty minutes to wait while the ingredients are in the cauldron." Eri said and sat down in a chair and propped her feet onto the edge of the desk and opened a sketch book and started drawing. Right now she would just wait the ingredients were almost ready and all they needed to do now was put them into the cauldron. If they needed her they could ask her for help, but they probably didn't know that.

"Okay if you need me just ask and the ingredients are almost ready so now we just put them in the cauldron and wait." The brunette said to the group of two.

Puns were the best thing in the world. The next best thing in the world was people's reactions to them. Watching his classmates, however, Piper was confused more than anything. Ford had turned away before he could even begin to analyse his expression. Was that good? Maybe he had a weird laugh. That must be it- Ford had a weird laugh and he didn't want them hearing it. Eri, on the other hand, looked... decidedly unamused. She probably didn't catch it. He'd have to try another later.

Piper took the spatula from Ford after he measured the standard ingredient and tipped four measures of bezoar dust into the cauldron. Eri looked pretty busy and he didn't want to pester the other boy, so he took it upon himself to wave his wand over the cauldron after five seconds of heating.

He stared for a moment. "Did that... do anything? I mean, the book says just to wave your wand, but, y'know, I was kinda hoping there'd be sparks or a cool colour change or something."

Oh well. They'd find out sooner or later.

In the meantime- they only had forty minutes to get to know each other! A challenge, for sure, but one he was definitely up to. Best to get a move on.

"So, Eri, is that a sketchbook? That's so cool! I've never really had the patience for art." He thought for a moment. "Drawing art, at any rate. Anyway, what kind of stuff do you draw?"

Ford nodded as the brunette told him that the cauldron was ready. He carefully poured in his ingredients and watched as Piper waved his wand above the cauldron. Nothing appeared to be happening... was that normal? Ford read over the recipe, but it didn't say anything about changes in the potion after the wand was waved. He didn't dare try his own hand at it, for fear of messing up their groups concoction. Who knows what a second wave would have done. Instead he relaxed and focused his eyes on the clock. He knew it was rude to stare at a clock during class of course, but surely Professor Valtome would not fault him for doing so during a time-sensitive project such as this. He wished for the forty minutes to pass by as quickly as possible. Eri didn't seem like she wanted to be bothered- fine by him. But Piper... this guy seemed eager to socialize.

Sure enough, as soon as their time had begun Piper was chatting away. He asked Eri a few inane questions about her art, commenting that he had never had the patience for it himself. Wonderful... so this boy was not only talkative, but impatient as well. They were going to get along great. (Of course Ford was not the most patient of people himself, but his eleven-year-old brain was far too untrained to recognize his own hypocrisy.)

He was a bit curious though. Ford enjoyed art. He, like Piper, did not have the patience to participate in anything like it himself, but he ha a great appreciation for the talents of others. So when Piper asked about the drawings, he did look over to await the girl's response. Perhaps there would be something of interest in that sketchbook to think over until they were finally released from this forced teamwork.

Eri looked up a bit surprised that she was being questioned about her art. Then she looked up and looked at piper. Oh great now both people were waiting for answers. "I draw people, landscapes, animals, and buildings. Though I don't see why people like to make realistic things look unrealistic. I like to draw what I see and make it look like how it looks."

Eri flipped back a page and held it up to show a picture of some person they probably didn't know. It was a boy in Hufflepuff robes, who looked about fourteen, had light brown hair and green eyes, and athletically built. Piper may know him, since he is in his house, but probably not. The boy in the picture was one of her brothers. Ethan windstone, who is going to be a fourth year. But to make her point the picture looked realistic.

The brunette flipped back to the page she was working on and so far there was an outline of a tree on the side of a hill facing a blank space which would be where a setting sun would be and there was also a small outline of small buildings marking a city.

Piper watched Ford anxiously to see if he knew about the whole wand thing. He trusted that the other boy would know what was right- after all, he'd seemed so smart and collected so far. To his relief, Ford didn't look like he had any concerns. Great- that meant they could take the next forty minutes to relax. Piper whipped out a quill and hovered it over his textbook so, should Valtome look over, it might look like he was doing something productive.

Piper leaned forward to look at the picture with wide eyes. His face lit up in a grin. He had no idea who the person in the image was, but the careful detailing and subtle shading made him feel like they were standing in front of him.

"Eri, that's amazing!" He said in an awed tone. "It looks like it was taken with a camera; that must have taken ages. Who is it?"

The next picture looked like it was shaping up to be equally impressive. "I'd love to see that when it's done. I mean, no pressure or anything, I just think it'll be cool."

After Eri responded, he turned to Ford and tried to give him an easy in to the conversation. He didn't want to leave the poor kid out, after all.

"Hey, Ford, are you into any artsy stuff? You seem like..." Piper paused, tilting his head and staring at him, "a music kind of guy."

The art was actually quite impressive. Ford had always been a fan of realism- as a perfectionist, it made sense to draw and paint in a way that reflected the real world, just... well, a bit better. The picture of the Hufflepuff boy certainly matched his ideals. While it looked as though it could have been photographed, there was a certain warmth and perfection to it that he doubted any real-life child could have. This was how Eri saw her brother then? Ford had to admit, the girl was quite talented. He had rarely seen such precision in artists of his own age group. He nodded as the excited Piper let out a string of comments. "Very impressive." He left it at that.

Pipers question struck him as an odd one. Sure it was normal for someone trying to make small talk to bring up music, but... Ford wondered what exactly it was about him that struck Piper as "a music kind of guy." In truth, Ford was a fan of music, though not the kind that most here seemed to listen to. Hogwarts was full of discordant school songs and choirs of frogs, latin chants and hummed tunes about various monsters and magical creatures. Yet Ford had always had an affinity for Muggle music. It seemed to have a magic of its own, rooted nowhere in the world of wizardry. Everything from classical to rap- his tastes seemed to vary greatly. Yet he was unsure if these two would understand any of that. So he looked at Piper and flashed another convincing smile. "Oh, I suppose I am."

Eri smiled. "Thank you. The picture is my second oldest brother. Ethan windstone. He is kind of well known in his house for his incredible dueling skills. But someday I'll be know for something too. Ford what kind of music do you like? I like muggle music. Cause I like to play the guitar."

Eri looked down at the ground trying to signal she was done talking about her art and she was ready to start talking about other things.

Why did it have to be forty minutes? She really wanted to just sit there and stare at the ground or just work on her art instead of socializing right then.

"Piper do you like music? If so what kind do you like?" Eri said trying to get the conversation directed away from her, but anyways she was a bit curious. Though why's couldn't they learn moreover about each other? There was time. But they were told not to goof around by the professor and she didn't want to get into trouble. But anyways when would the forty minutes be over so they could finish their potion. They didn't need this as homework with the amount they normally have daily.

Piper couldn't help but turn around to Eri again. "Ooh, guitar? I need to hear that sometime. It's gotta be an improvement on frog choirs for sure."

He realised slightly too late that Eri wasn't making eye contact; maybe she didn't want to go into her cool rock star past right now. Rather than press the issue, he smiled at Ford.

"Ah, sorry. Continue. "

Piper couldn't help but notice that Ford's answer had been vague, so he'd been glad when Eri had questioned him further. He was half-certain that Ford was already a musician. If not, he'd make an excellent one- there was something in the way that he'd measured ingredients, with an expression of focus he'd seen often as his dad tickled the ivories. Either way, he was interested to see what the kid would say.
"Piper do you like music? If so what kind do you like?"
Piper felt his eyes lighting up. The answer was yes, yes there was a kind of music that he loved beyond reason, to the point where he was almost vibrating in his seat in trying not to burst into a rant. He knew that sometimes he could maybe have a small tendency to talk a little bit too much when he was passionate about something, so he took a small breath and tried to control his thoughts.

"Musicals are good," he answered in a slightly strained tone.

Mary huffed in annoyance as the professor asked her to go get more supplies. Why me? she thought to herself. She really wanted to get to know her group partners but didn't put up a fight and sulked off to the supply closet to retrieve the berries. Opening the door to the supply closet Mary was overwhelmed with the amount of ingredients she saw. She supposed over 100 items were stashed away in the closet only waiting for the poor soul that had to sort through it all. Mary cracked her fingers and began digging through the pile of items that crowded the room. She lost track of time but eventually came to find the berries hidden behind a box stuffed with flobberworm mucus jars. Mary made a disgusted face at the box and reached behind the jars to grab as many berries she could and rushed out the room almost tripping over a pile of boxes.

Upon returning Mary hurriedly plopped the berries on to a small spare table in the back of the classroom and sighed of relief finally she thought exasperatedly. She hadn't known if her group members noticed her returning but walked briskly over to the professor to notify him of her reappearance.

Mary rushed back over to her groups table to see that the potion was already brewing, the ravenclaw in her was a little disappointed that she didn't get to have any hands on experience with the potion but hoped the group would let her do a little for the second part of the potion. She sat in her chair and announced she was back.

"Did i miss a lot?" She asked the group, a little out of breath.
Glad to be back guys! Sorry for the short notice disappearance
