➵Gavin watched as she balled her hands once more, the fingers of one drumming against the other. Even before she conceded that she had no clue, he could tell. If that was a nervous habit, as he presumed it was, then the most obvious cause would be his question. Considering her prior excitement, it couldn't be that it was a particularly awkward question. Thus, the most logical conclusion would be that she didn't know where it was.
When she admitted to having forgotten where she'd last set it down, he nodded and slid out of his seat. "Depending on when you left it, it might have already been placed back on the shelf it came from. If you remember where that is, I suggest we check there first," he said. Then again, he had been to plenty of libraries before and the number of books he saw out of order... he shuddered just thinking about it.
"If it's not there, do you remember the general area you left it last? If you do, we could check the surrounding shelves." Usually, retracing your steps was a good method. But there was one more thing that he had to know if he was to properly take part in this search. "What does the book look like in the first place? Spine colour, cover, etc.?"➵@Catherine Drea

"Depending on when you left it, it might have already been placed back on the shelf it came from. If you remember where that is, I suggest we check there first," he said.
Cathy gave a short nod, trying to think place to where she placed it. She had a horrible memory when it came to remembering where she put stuff, oftentimes she'd set something down for half a moment in a panic then forget about it. Her mind drew a blank, and she fumbled with herself for a minute.
"If it's not there, do you remember the general area you left it last? If you do, we could check the surrounding shelves." The boy's words hit her ears and she thought about it. Cathy knew herself well enough to have a good guess regarding where she most likely put it.
"Um, well, I probably put in the 'C' labelled section. Since everything's in order of alphabet, it shouldn't be too hard to find...um but yeah, I clean up after myself...or I try to taking care of your things is important you know...," She rationalized. That was true, Cathy was quite organized, a bit of a neat freak, something she had inheriented from her mother. Come to think of it, she did remember seeing that section and vaguely rcalled placing the book back there. Then, another round of the boy's questioning hit.
""What does the book look like in the first place? Spine colour, cover, etc.?"
Huh, she thought back to the book and tried to place an image in her mind. She was somewhat relieved when it produced an answer.
"Um, it was dark blue, a little dusty, with gold words written across it, I dunno how long it had been there but it looked like it had been a while since someone picked it out...." She rambled, trying to match the description as best as she could. She gave the boy a smile, she was starting to remember some things!
"You're uh...really good at this...you kinda sound a bit like my mam whenever I lose stuff, she's a lawyer so she always asks a lot of questions umh....do you lose stuff often?" She questioned in a soft tone.

➵Gavin nodded. He could work with that. While gazing over at the books to try and see what section they were in, he kept his ears peeled for anything else Cathy might say. If he squinted, He could read some Fs. Hmm... The letters probably started on the shelves closest to the door.
Before he could give a suggestion though, the book description.
"Hm. Those are some pretty good indicators. Did the surrounding books also have dust on them?" he questioned. If they did, that would probably make things even easier. The more details the better.
Cathy's question made him pause. "Well... not terribly often, but yeah. I have ADHD and a problem with object permanence, so sometimes if something's not in my line of sight I'll just forget it exists. Mentally, I can remember most things, but put something in a list and it will just..." He made a strange movement with his hand, balling it up before springing it open. "Poof." He recalled his father's words before he got on the Hogwarts Express. "You didn't forget your wand, did you?" He shook his head.
"I can't even tell you how many times I've forgotten my sketchbook at random locations. I've almost left it at school for the summer before."ReducioThe ADHD stuff is things that my friend and I with ADHD have both experienced IRL. "Hm. Those are some pretty good indicators. Did the surrounding books also have dust on them?". The question rang in Cathy's ears. Huh, were the rest of the books dusty? She tried to think back but she wasn't really sure, she wasn't really paying attention to the other books...
"Um...I dunno...I'm not sure...I d-don't think so?" She offered, trying her best to formulate an answer. She was bad at remembering specific details unless it was something she actively noticeable. Cathy was not the most observant child so it seemed that trying to get her to remember something specific was like pulling teeth sometimes.
But, Gavin was a huge help. She gave him a thankful smile, it was nice to have someone on your side that was so helpful. When she complimented his finding skills and asked him if he lost stuff often, she sat there looking interested until he replied.

The little hand gesture made her laugh, it was charming. But she slowly grew serious when she took in the subject matter of what he was saying. Hm, ADHD? She met a boy with that in primary school, he was a nice fellow, if not a little energetic. She heard that people with that disorder could have issues with forgetting things, but the way she described his own experiences was interesting. Huh, well you learn something new every day.
"Well good on you for managing that, it's very resourceful to have systems set up in place to make yourself more efficient and all...um...like sometimes I get anxious and I have to try to actively stop myself before it gets worse....i-it works sometimes!" Cathy commented, rambling a little bit about her own experience. Though, she couldn't exactly imagine a life with ADHD, she certainly can appreciate her friend's strength for continuing to thrive even with his aliment. She gave him an encouraging smile, hoping that she could provide some support.
"I can't even tell you how many times I've forgotten my sketchbook at random locations. I've almost left it at school for the summer before." Gavin remarked, and Cathy nodded at that. For her though, her personal problem was the exact opposite.
"Um, yeah, that must be difficult...I'm sorry you have to deal with that....but um, I j-just check things constantly, it's more of a security thing, make sure everythin's in order...but um-..yeah I do it a lot...I do constantly...um..just have to make sure it's okay...hm...I have to check things a lot before I feel comfortable...or I'll get more anxious after a few minutes..." She admitted, tone a little reluctant. It was true, she had a bit of problem with constantly feeling the need to check her pockets or her bag to make SURE that everything was right where it needed to be. If she didn't check, she felt that unrelenting dread form in her stomach, almost as if something was rotting away at her. It felt bad, it felt horrid, and so, to make that uncomfortable feeling stop, she would check her bag. Rinse and repeat. She let out a bit of a nervous hum after saying it, it was a bad habit, she wasn't exactly thrilled with sharing it. But somehow, letting it off her chest, especially to her friend, made her feel a little bit better.

➵Hmm... well, that ruled that out. Oh well. They'd find it. "Well, either way, it's good to know," he said, returning her smile.
When Cathy mentioned her anxiety, he hummed. "There are some grounding methods that may help with that," he commented. He didn't have anxiety himself, so he didn't know how it felt, but he knew people could use coping mechanisms to ground themselves. Some were definitely better than others, but they did exist.

Despite clearly being uncomfortable about that habit, she was still willing to tell him that. It was admirable. He could understand where she was coming from with that, needing to make sure she had everything.
"That does sound like a struggle," he said, voice soft and expression distraught. He wished he was able to help, but he had no experience with such things. "On the one hand, you figure out that you have everything you need, but on the other, it sounds very stressful." He really wished he could say more. But sometimes when he spoke, the words just wouldn't come to mind.

She smiled after the boy's gave an optimistic remark, she tried to tell herself that too. Don't fuss too much, they'd find that book someway.
When she began to ramble about her anxiety, she noticed the boy was nodding along, listening fully with what she had to say. She was thankful she could talk about this with him, he really was a nice kid. She met his eyes once she finished, and he seemed to have a response at the ready.
"That does sound like a struggle," he said, voice soft and distraught, which made Cathy feel a bit bad saddling him with her troubles, "On the one hand, you figure out that you have everything you need, but on the other, it sounds very stressful.".
Cathy found herself nodding, the words were certainly correct. Times could be tough for her if she let herself worry too much over things, that type of mindset is a dangerous one.
"Yeah, I'm working on it, um-...just trying to get some more faith in myself, I've been more active of it..and sometimes, you just gotta trust yourself, you know?" She said, voice soft and vulernable. She gave a quiet hum after saying it, one that more reflective, she really did need to trust herself more often. The boy's words grounded her back to reality.
"Would you like to go look for the book, now?" Gavin asked and Cathy sprang up.
"Oh yeah, sure sure sure, we can go look for it, sorry for ramblin', um- The 'C' Books were closer to the door I believe.." She answered, beginning to move in the direction of the door. She pulled in the hum of her uniform jumper, not necessarily a nervous tic, just something she did. Cathy had a lot of tics she did, some nervous, some more just...her body doing something to keep itself occupied. However, a lightbulb went off in Cathy's head, igniting something she had previously forgotten.
"Oh!" She called out, before fumbling with her bag for a minute, trying to retrieve the needed items. "Oh...dear, come on...they should be here somewhere..." She declared, before her hands met the desired objects. She stood up, giving out a small 'Ah-ha!'. She then turned around, facing Gavin.
"Here-look-I um- I completely forgot about things, we can erm- have them while we look? You know...er-fits the theme of the book?" She revealed, holding up the two hufflepuff treats she'd brought with her. She gave a small grin, excited to show her friends the snacks.
"I think the treats are good today, someone had taken one before me, said something about hazelnut...oh...you aren't allergic are you?" She questioned, tone turning a bit worried at the end. Oh dear, what if she had brought something Gavin couldn't have? That'd be no good.
"Yeah, um, I managed to grab them from the bowl earlier, Um- I asked the prefects if it was okay beforehand and it was already...uh- I don't want to take anything I'm not supposed to...er- I learned my lesson with that once...Um...I stole a few sweets for me and my brother when I was a wee girl, heh, he was hungry and I felt bad for em', I remember he couldn't have sweets cause he got told off earlier, so I grabbed a few snacks....got caught by mam...." Cathy recounted, shuddering a bit at the memory. She still remembers the raw fury her mother had in discovering that her precious daughter was stealing from her.....Cathy got in major trouble for that. She still felt bad at the look of betrayal her mother gave.

➵Gavin nodded. That made sense. Sometimes, you just needed to trust that you could handle whatever came your way. It did no good to stress over every little thing, after all.
At her approval of the idea, Gavin started walking up the aisles with her towards the front of the room. When she yelped, though, he halted in his tracks. Looking curiously at her, he saw the brunette rummaging around in her bag, clearly looking for something. But what?
His question was quickly answered when she showed him two treats, a small grin on her face. "Here-look-I um- I completely forgot about things, we can erm- have them while we look? You know...er-fits the theme of the book? I think the treats are good today, someone had taken one before me, said something about hazelnut..." She seemed to pause. "Oh...you aren't allergic are you?" she questioned, expression quickly becoming worried.
Gavin shook his head, taking one of the treats out of her hand with a smile. "Nope. The only allergy standing in my way is grass," he said, expression turning into more of a smirk at the end. Ironic that he, ever the outdoorsy kid, was allergic to grass.
He couldn't help but chuckle at her tale, although he felt a bit of sympathy. She had mentioned before that her mother could be rather strict. "Well, at least you learned," he said lightly.
When she was ready, he started heading towards the shelves again, eventually ducking his head into one that seemed to have the right letters. "This might be the aisle," he told her.ReducioAhhh, I'm so sorry, I didn't get a notification for this post-➵@Catherine Drea

She sighed with relief as the boy answered that he had no allergies, except for grass. Then she chuckled a bit, confusion evident on her face.
"Grass, really? How does that work? I'd hope it's not too terrible, you mentioned you were the nature-loving type," She asked, tone geniunely curious. She'd never met anyone allergic to grass. That did not sound like a fun allergy to have, not that allergies were fun it just seemed like the one you wouldn't want to get. Hm, she felt a pang of sympathy for Gavin hit her.
As she went on to tell the tale of one of the few instances of her childhood mischief (she was really a child that always tried to remain well-behaved, 'goody-two shoes' was certainly a fitting nickname to bestow upon her). She heard her friend chuckle at bit, and she felt herself ease up a bit too. I mean, it was sorta funny to recount how she tried to sneak around the house like a cat burglar, at-least she can find a little fun in the memory.
"Well, at least you learned," Gavin voiced lightly and Cathy found herself giving a nod. She gave him a bit of a playful grin.
"Oh yeah, believe me, I ended my life of crime, no. I came out of that time-out corner a changed girl," She joked, confidence forming in her normally soft-spoken nature. She let a little laughter out, before stopping realziing that she was laughing at her own joke. Then a thought popped into her head.
"Didn't you say you were a prankster as a kid?" She asked, tone amused. She had heard the story of how he got his magic, and it was funny to imagine this polite boy as such an impish little child. She gave him a small grin. Just before she could get too wrapped up in the thought, his words broke through.
"This might be the aisle," he told her. Cathy looked at the isle, eyes widening as she recognized it. She gave him an excited smile. Glee filled her eyes as it looked like they found the location of that well-loved book.
"I think you're right," she called, voice a bit raised in volume as she charged foward, eagerness seen from her. She was beginning to place the pieces of where it was in her mind, she felt a bit like Sherlock Holmes just before he was about to solve a mystery.
"Oh-oh, here it is!" She cried, pointing to a book that was hovering just above her. It was coated in dust, but still, a gold outline shimmered through, like the sun through passing clouds. The girl began to fidget a bit, happy with herself for finding it. She reached up, hands desperate to grab the book. Alas, to no avail as she tried harder but she could not reach the book. Huh...she tried again, this time on her tippy toes. No luck. She huffed out a small noise of disappointment, mentally wishing she had just a few more inches before remembering, oh yeah, Gavin!
She turned towards the boy, a sheepish look on her face, a bit of embarassment came about her as she realizied she'd have to ask for help due to being short.
"Erm-...Gavin, uh-, Can you grab for me? I'm...uh- a little uh- I can't really reach it," She acknowledged, a tad bit reluctantly.

➵Gavin heaved a sigh. "I am. It's real unfortunate. At least there isn't really much grass in the woods," he said with a sigh.
At her comment on the time-out corner, he laughed a bit again. It was just such a funny statement to him. When she mentioned his own past life of pranking, he smiled sheepishly. "Yeah. I never wanted to do anything that would really harm anyone, but I would hide things, jump around corners, etc. One time, I accidentally spilt some red paint in art class and turned that into a prank. You can probably imagine how that went... I was probably around 9 at the time." A lot of his ideas just came from him going with the flow. He only organised things like his first incident of magic every once in a while.
When she confirmed that they had the right aisle, he grinned and followed her down to where he assumed they would find the book. And sure enough, there it was.
He watched as Cathy tried to pull the book off the shelf... tried and failed. Then, understanding that it was futile, she turned to him and asked if he could get it down instead. Nodding, he walked up to the shelf and reached up for the top of the book, going onto his toes just so he could pull it down. Despite the faceful of dust and subsequent coughing he was rewarded with, he was able to pull it off the shelf with more ease then.
The navy book in his hands, the blonde turned towards Cathy, holding it out to her. "Here ya go," he said.➵@Catherine Drea

"I'm sorry you have that, but um-...at-least you get to go to the woods anyways," She rationalized, tone turning a bit more comforting and optimistic at the end. She didn't want her friend feeling down so she gave him a small smile, an attempt to cheer him up.
She found herself smiling a bit more after he had laughed at her comment regarding the time-out corner. Oh yeah, young her thought of that corner as a death sentence, but now she can look back on it and laugh a little at her dramatic reaction to the whole thing. Yet, at the mention of his own pranks, the boy gave a sheepish grin.
"Yeah. I never wanted to do anything that would really harm anyone, but I would hide things, jump around corners, etc. One time, I accidentally spilt some red paint in art class and turned that into a prank. You can probably imagine how that went... I was probably around 9 at the time." He explained, and Cathy found herself nodding. She gave a smile to him, it was fun to imagine this nice young man doing of these things with a wicked grin on his face. She did have a legitimate concern though.
"Well, I hope you didn't get paint on anyone, that stuff is hard to wash out, real thick. It stains the clothing," She remarked, tone soft and sympathetic for any victims of that prank. She remembered the day her brother as an infant had gotten into her painting supplies, her mother nearly had a heart attack at the mess, all while her brother babbled on, covered head to toe in green paint.
Thankfully, her brother had taken most of the paint splatters, so a scrub-heavy bath was enough to clean the kid, but still, it took her mother ages to get those stains out of the carpet.
When they had eventually reached, the correct isle and after Cathy had struggled a few minutes to reach the book, she looked to Gavin for aid. Much to her relief, he was able to reach the book and her beloved writing was plopped into her hands. She looked at Gavin as if he had just saved her life.
"Here ya go," he said. Cathy felt the jitters running through her, excitement coursing through her vains. She gave him a thankful look. She began flipping through the pages, confirming that this was indeed her book, as memories of recipes came flooding back to her. She looked at Gavin, grin wide across her face.
"Oh, thank you, thank you!" She yelled, eyes looked as if they had stars embedded in them. She, then released a breath, and she returned to her natural composed energy. She gave him a soft smile.
"Really, thankful, um-, any particular goods you'd like to hear about?..um...there's cakes, cookies...ooo...there's even a few brownie recipes..." She rambled, tone growing with passion as she listed off the possible options. She gave him a smile as she waited for his reply.
