Lucas couldn't even begin to guess where he would be placed, anywhere but Hufflepuff and he'd be happy. The thought brought shivers up his spine, that truly would be an embarrassing letter to send back home for him.
All he could do now was wait patiently until he name was called out, and it felt like an eternity had passed while he was stood there, idly tapping his fingers against his leg, and casting his gaze around the hall. He wasn't sure what he had expected really, but so far Hogwarts certainly hadn't disappointed in the sheer scale of everything.
LUCAS CHAPMAN was called out, and Lucas' shot to attention, somewhat surprised. He simply took a deep breathe, before walking up and taking a seat on the stool, before the hat was placed over his head. So many eyes being on him all of a sudden really added to the pressure of the situation.
Lucas sat as still as he could, simply waiting for one of the four words to be called out, dearly hoping that it would not be Hufflepuff. That really would suck for him. After a few moments, one word was finally called out.
GRYFFINDOR
He was more than okay with that, and as the hat was raised off of his head, he couldn't help but grin. As he walked down towards the table of his new house, there was more confidence in his stride, very evidently pleased by his placement.

Now sitting at the Slytherin table, Olive could finally breath again.
Hey! That's the guy who just talked to me a minute ago. He is in Slytherin too! AND he seemed friendly enough. At least she had not picked up any "evil vibes" while talking to him. I should stop giving too much credit to what people say. People are who they choose to be, not what is chosen for them. Like the house they'll be in.
She waved at Theodor but wasn't sure if he had seen her. Those few seconds right after the hat shouts the name of the house you'll be in can be a bit overwhelming. But she would definitely be very happy if she had the chance to talk to him again and possibly have a friend in the same house.
He's got a cool name, I'll give him that. - she thought as she saw him moving towards the Slytherin table. Olive had always cared a bit too much about names. She liked hers and always thought that the way a name sounded had some impact on who the person was. For instance, OLIVE sounded kind, sweet, and she was for sure a kind and sweet person. But then JONES is almost like a slap on the face! Funny but true. Had she been called BARBARA JONES, for example, the kindness and sweetness would have been replaced by a slightly arrogant attitude with more dignity and pride - keeping the slap on the face, of course.
OLIVE WHITE, on the other hand would have made her more...diplomatic. She would have needed somebody else in her life to defend her against enemies had she been called OLIVE LINN, though. But no. Her name was OLIVE JONES. Maybe that's why she ended up in Slytherin. Maybe that was why Theodor Osborne had been placed there too. Or maybe it was just something silly she had made up in her mind. Either way, first impressions have always been pretty important no matter how old you are or where you are from. And names are, without question, part of the "first impression package"!

Renée had been anticipating the sorting ceremony throughout the whole trip to Hogwarts. She’d chatted anxiously about it with other first years on the train, but she’d been thinking about it for weeks… when her letter had arrived, her parents had made it clear that her goals would be best met in the house both of them had once been a part of. Slytherin…
Of course Renée had heard rumours about the houses history with dark wizards and all round bad name, but her parents spoke of it so fondly, like family they missed dearly, and the going girl could hardly believe they were all bad. Not to mention the fact that she struggled to believe any kids her age could be truly evil…
Now she stood anxiously with the other first years at the front of the hall, watching as one by one kids were called up and sorted. A Hufflepuff, a Slytherin, a Gryffindor…
Renée’s name was called and she chewed her lip as she strode to the stool and the hat was lowered towards her head.
She’d expected it to take some time, that the hat might deliberate on her position, but the worn leather had barely reached the hair on her head before it screamed its verdict…
SLYTHERIN!!
Her heart raced as a cry of delight went up from the Slytherin table, glad to have a new member, and she grinned brightly as she rose from the stool and made her way over to them…

The moment he stepped through the great doorframe, he took in the mysterious glory of the Great Hall. Four long tables, stretching all the way to the bank wall, where adults, supposedly the teachers, sat. He looked to one side, and saw the green he had come to love. Locking eyes with his older sister Umeko at the table, he pretty much already knew where he would be sat in a moment’s time.
His surname beginning with an A, he was one of the first up. Nobody had been sorted into Slytherin yet, so he was eager to be the first. Ambitious and cunning. Just like me. He thought. Then, the headmaster called “Arveli, Larino.” He was up.
He briskly walked up and sat on the stool. The hat was placed on his head, and it wasn’t long before it started to talk. Umeko had warned him about this; it didn’t surprise him one bit.
“Ah… yes… I see talent, yes. You are a hardworking soul, but willing to do anything to get what you want. I think it had better be…” The suspense was killing him. “Slytherin!” The hat shouted, making him cover his ears for a moment. Once he’d recovered, he stood up and joined the table that cheered. Just what he expected, but he couldn’t help but wonder why the hat had to wait that long to make its decision…Post layout and graphics by Larino Arveli• S U M M A R Y •

Ayuna rarely felt nervous. Not when she was speaking in front of the whole school, not when having a test, not even when introducing herself to a new class. But now, she felt anxious. Maybe it was because this sorting will change her future completely, or maybe it was how she felt like an outsider because of her muggle heritage. In any means, she was scared, so very scared.
As all the first years proceeded into the Great Hall, the girl gasped looking at the beautiful sight. Floating candles illuminated the hall, showing four long tables filled with students. Four flags hung above the tables, each one representing a different house: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. As her gaze travelled upwards, she saw the magnificent ceiling. No, a ceiling isn't the word, for it appears to be transparent, showing the night sky filled with stars.
The sorting began. Ayuna's surname began with a B, so she didn't have to wait for a long time before- "Baudelaire, Ayuna!" The girl made her way through the crowds of students and walked nervously to the sorting hat and sat down, her stomach filling up with butterflies.
"Ah, a Baudelaire!" the hat suddenly said. Ayuna fidgeted, her hands clasping the rim of her robes tightly. "Ah," the hat said again, "I see that you are a clever girl, but also filled with courage. So which house shall I place you......" Ayuna waited tensely, her face reddening, her hands already slimy with sweat.
"RAVENCLAW!" the hat suddenly shouted, the Ravenclaw table erupted into cheers. The girl jumped, quite surprised at this decision. Then she walked smartly towards her house table and sat down in a seat, her face bright and lively.

Stephen comes forward in the Great Hall. He is nervous. This feeling will past away quickly but Stephen doesn't know yet. His heart squeeze when he remember the face of this mothers in the Platform 93/4: they cried... And him too. It is the first time; he never lived away to them. It was so hard and he cried again during the firsth minutes in this big and wonderful Hogwarts Express. But since he saw the Hogwarts outline when he was in the barge, on the dark Great Lake, this feeling has reduce.
Now, he is in the most beautiful refectory that he has never saw. There are a magical sky, big tables, colours, people. With his new uniform, Stephen feels like a big boy, a cool boy, like other sudents sit here.
There are a lot of strangers, creepy adults and this hat, the famous hat that mum and mummy talked about. But that is not the most frightening thing: Stephen thinks and thinks again at those friends he met in the Hogwarts Express: will they be in the same House? He wants to!
His problems are quickly forgotten: a man talks. A strange man. Really, Stephen thinks, strange and impressive man! The wizard wears an... Armor? Stephen really (and he thinks again and again: "really, really") likes it and the association is immediate: this man is a modern knight.
The wizard knight talks and stephen doesn't listen. He gaze with his big eyes and his mind invent histories about life of this man.
"Do you think he has a sword in his office?" he asks to the girl near him. But the child listens the headmaster, so Stephen doesn't insist.
As her mothers tell him, name after name the children meet the Sorting Hat and they go at the their new House table. It is soon the Stephen moment... The boy fells his stomach contracting. He doesn't know where he wants to go: Ravenclaw is an eagle and it was his mummy House; Gryffindor is funny and its emblem is a lion; Hufflepuff was his mum House; and Slytherin? Slytherin has its dormitory in basements! So Stephen doesn't know which House he wants to join.
His name resonates in Great Hall! Stephen comes forward with his trembling legs. He smiles with all this teeth at the headmaster —the knight headmaster— and he sit in the stool. The hat sinks on his head.
The hat talks and talks again. For once, Stephen listens. The thing speaks about his temerity, his desire to do well, his desire to have fun, not to study, to have friends, to play jokes, to discover the castle and everything else.
"Gryffindor!" the Sorting Hat exclaims.
Stephen joins to his table with a big smile and pride on his face. Gryffindor is a good choice: he loves red! He is so excited by his new life, so excited the he forget his mothers for several minutes.

Slowly, Lilian follows the other students into the hall. She did not know what to expect but certainly not this. The room was massive, bigger than anytinh Lilian had ever seen. And how could there be tables this long? In the beginning, Lilian looked straight down to the floor. She didn't want to meet anyone's eyes. But then she heard someone else wisper, saying something about the ceiling. So Lilian looked up... to the sky? She was so surprised to see not only the nightsky but floating candles in it, that for a second, she forgot to walked. When she noticed, that she fell behind, she turned red from embarassment and hastened her steps. Of course, the moment she caught up again everyone stops and she bumps into another kid. Great start, Lil. Making sure you won't have any friends in this school either. Lilian is cursing herself barely listening to the speech of what Lilian presumes must be the headmaster. You would probably know who that is, if you paid attention. Snap out of it, this is not the time for talking to myself, I should really listen. Come on, Lil, you are already pretty much lost, so yourself a favor and at least pay...Date: 01.09.2022
"Lilian Lee", the headmaster calls out her name. Confused Lilian looks up. Why did he call me? Did I do something wrong? Insecure Lilian looks at the other children and then the headmaster. He didn't seem angry, just - waiting?
Slowly, very slowly Lilian takes the first step towards the stairs, then the next and the next. In the end, she arrives infront of the chair and even more slowly sits down. She doesn't dare to move when a hat is placed on her head but when said hat starts to talk she can't help but wince slightly. A talking hat? How is that possible? Hats can't talk! Lil, you idiot, this is a magic school full of magic people, of course the hat is magic as well. So why shouldn't this hat talk?
"Ravenclaw", the hat says loud enough to wake Lilian up again. She was still confused when she got up again. However this time, she didn't move slowly anymore. She practically ran down the stairs towards a table of cheering students with blue ties. Get it together Lil, this school is different. This time it will be better. You will go now and find yourself some friends.

Harris was surrounding by a lot of people. Too many people for him to feel anywhere close to comfortable. It probably would have been worse if he didn't know anyone. Luckily, he, Niamh, and Kat had stuck together since they left the train. While their presence did little to calm his nerves, it was better than nothing.
People were getting called up in alphabetical order to go up and have a hat set on their head. Of course, like everything else in this whimsical world, the hat was magic. It sorted people into their school houses, which was very weird in Harris's opinion. Had the hat ever been wrong? Had it ever not sorted someone into a house? What happened in that case? The brunette took a deep breath and tried to calm himself.
His last name started with N. Probably the luckiest thing he could think of right now. He wasn't going to be first, so he could observe how the sorting worked, he also wasn't going to be last. Harris was going to be snuggly sorted in the middle-back of the first years. Assuming that the last letter wasn't Q. That was pretty unlikely.
As more people were called up and sorted into their houses, Harris started fiddling with the sleeves of his robe. He wanted to mess around with the charms on his necklace, but that was a poor idea. He had just gotten it and was terrified he would accidently snap the chain.
"Nocturne, Harris," His name was called. Oh gosh, his name was called. Harris took a few shaky steps, not yet ready to leave the group. He glanced back at Niamh and Kat, giving them a small wave before walking up to the stool. There was a second of awkward shuffling before he sat down and the hat was placed upon his head.
"There's no need to be nervous," A voice said, making Harris jump. The hat was speaking directly to him? Had it done this for others? He hadn't heard the hat talk to anyone else, so, he must be the only person able to hear it right now. Harris tried not to fidget too much because while no one could hear the hat right now, people could still see him. "Very loyal, and hardworking. Trustworthy, but also very trusting. Almost too much so. Curious and bright. Yes. I think I know where to put you," Oh. That didn't take very long at all. Some people were sitting for minutes before the hat announced their house.
"HUFFLEPUFF!" The hat shouted out for everyone to hear. It was removed and Harris bounded off to the Hufflepuff table. There, he sat and waited until his friends got called. With luck, at least one of them would be in the same house as him. At least, he hoped one of them would be. He didn't fancy the idea of not knowing anyone in his house.
"Ortiz, Katherine," Was soon called. Harris was at the edge of his seat. He watched as his friend sat down and the hat was placed atop her head. It was only a few moments, maybe, but for Harris it was antagonizing long.
"SLYTHERIN!" The hat cried out. Harris applauded like everyone else, but he was also just a little disheartened. The newest Hufflepuff watched his friend walk over to the Slytherin table before scanning the crowd of unsorted first years for Niamh.
It wasn't long before she too, was called. "Quinn, Niamh," And up to the stool she went. Just like with everyone else the hat was placed on her head and it wasn't long before it shouted out Niamh's house.
"GRYFFINDOR!" Once again, Harris applauded as his friend walked to her house table.
This was fine. He was fine. Harris should have known this would happen. He just needed something to distract him right now. There was a feast after everyone was sorted, right? He could distract himself with food.

Stress was not a feeling that came to Sean Byrne a lot, a confident young man. But seeing the giant crowded hall in front of him most definitely made Sean stressed. He took a deep breath as he followed his fellow first years into the Great Hall. His mother had told him that it was a breathtaking experience seeing the Great Hall for the first time and now he truly understood what she meant.
Speaking of his mother, Sean thought back to when his mother told him about the houses, her advice came with obvious bias, but after doing some of his own reading he was interested in all the houses, maybe besides Ravenclaw, ironically his mother's house, just because he felt that he wouldn't be a good fit.
Sean Byrne!
The sudden call of his name snapped him out of his trance, Sean made his way forward as the other kid who was called before him left the stool. As he sat Sean really thought about what house he wanted to be in. Ravenclaw was a definite no, just wasn't for him. Hufflepuff, maybe, it's not a bad house and seems interesting enough. Gryffindor sounded cool, the house of the brave and the confident, Sean could see himself doing well there. Slytherin was the same, cunning and sly sounded cool to Sean, by any means necessary is a smart mentality. He thought about the houses-
Gryffindor!
Well, no point in thinking about the houses anymore Sean thought. He excitedly hopped off the stool and briskly made his way over to the applauding Gryffindor table with a huge grin on his face, as he sat down he gave a few high fives to the people around him. He turned his head to watch the next sorting, but couldn't wipe the smile off his face, he felt good, he was happy, he was home.

Looking around, her eyes wide and curious, Fiona made her way into the Great Hall. She had read a bit of each of her textbooks in preparation for starting classes, but she had read a lot of Hogwarts, A History. She came from a home where her wizard father had left her alone with her Muggle mother, so she didn't know anything about magic yet. She wanted to learn everything there was to know, not because she wanted to be the best at everything, but because she was extremely curious. She studied the ceiling of the Great Hall, a shocked look on her face. It looked just like the night sky she had seen when they approached the castle by boat earlier. Candles were floating in the room too and Fiona was just amazed at how casually magic was used here. She hadn't grown up around it, so seeing it so out in the open was a bit of a shock to her system. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw movement on the walls and she turned her head, gasping a little when she saw the portraits moving.
She continued to look around until an older gentleman walked toward the front of the Great Hall and began to speak. She listened to him, her blue eyes sparkling as he explained the hat. It even talked, and Fiona was amazed by the sight and sound. She had never seen a talking hat before, obviously, nor had she ever imagined that it could be possible. But here was a hat that seemed to possess a mind of its own, though she highly doubted that it had an actual brain. She listened as the hat began to sing, her blue eyes wide in amazement. She listened carefully, especially at the part where it explained the four houses. Right away, Fiona could tell that she definitely wouldn't belong in Gryffindor or Slytherin. She wasn't particularly brave or cunning, in her opinion. She felt like she identified more with Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. Ravenclaw because she loved learning more than anything, and Hufflepuff because she was a very loyal sort of person. She might be shy and not likely to make friends without them starting the conversation first, but she was steadfastly loyal to those who she called her friends.
Fiona watched as the Headmaster read off some names and the students went to the front of the Hall to be sorted. She looked nervous but excited as she watched, her heart fluttering in her chest and her stomach felt as if it was full of butterflies. She noticed that they were heading toward her name and stood up a little taller. She wasn't very tall, more average height, so it didn't give her an advantage of seeing above other people. She flushed deeply and bit her lip nervously as her name was called. She had to go in front of the whole school and stand there. She was shy, so this was difficult for her. She gulped a little before timidly walking to the front to sit on the stool. The hat was large and covered her eyes for a moment before she heard a voice speaking in her head. Hmm... I see a great love of learning... but also a large part of caring for other people... You would do well in either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, but... I think you are... the hat said, going silent for a moment. RAVENCLAW! she heard the hat say loudly to the whole room. She flushed deeply but had a wide smile on her face as she got off the stool and walked toward the table where she had seen other students who had been sorted into Ravenclaw. She looked around at the people at her table before taking a seat and getting comfortable. She was a Ravenclaw, that had been decided, and she was happy to have been sorted here. She was shy, but still looking forward to meeting new people and making friends.
