Time Well Spent
@Irina Sousa | November 10TH, 4 pm
Opeila was tired and for a good reason. The whole day she had been yawning in classes and really made an effort not to nap off. It was okay, at least not the kind of constant exhaustion she had experienced due to the curse, but enough to make Opeila feel annoyed. The night before had been worth it though. She had caught a first year outside on the grounds and pulled one of the younger prefects aside to tell them about the occasional nightly terrors. Perhaps scared them a bit, but better scared than unprepared, right?
But that left Opeila with another unpleasant task on her already full schedule... In the morning, Opeila would make sure that a note reached Irina.Usually Opeila would have chosen a private place, one where Irina could serve her detention in silence, but as already mentioned, the fourth year had a full schedule. She had some homework to do and since she would be giving Irina a writing task, that would hopefully allow her to get some assignments done.Dear Miss Sousa,
in the past night you have broken the third school rule (You may not be outside of your commons rooms after 8:00 pm without permission). As a consequence, I regret to inform you that you have been sentenced to detention. Please meet me in the library at 4 pm and bring quill and parchment.
Kind regards,
Opeila Winters
At 4 pm, Opeila would wait in the library, already gathering some books for herself. When Irina arrived, she wouldn't waste any minutes. "Hello Irina, please sit there." She would gesture towards another chair at the table she had chosen. "Right. I have a task prepared for you." With that she would push another note across the table, reading:
1) Elaborate why sneaking out at night is wrong.
2) Describe 10 activities you could do at night in your dorm without waking anyone up or leaving your dorm when you can't sleep.
"I will be doing some homework, let me know when you are done."
Congrats! You have gotten yourself into detention!
You, the player, are not in any trouble, but your character has broken a school rule in a way that makes a warning insufficient. For that reason they got a task to fulfill.
You, the player will have to roleplay your character fulfilling the given task and meet a wordcount and/or number of posts that is decided by the prefect/professor giving the detention. Until the requirements are fulfilled, you may not start or join any new threads.
Your Task: Write an essay in which you explain why it is a bad idea to sneak out at night and give 10 examples of activities you could do when unable to sleep, that don't involve leaving the dorm or waking anyone up.
Your minimum WC: 800 words, spread out over as many posts as you like.

___Last night didn't went exactly how she’d wanted. After not being able to fell asleep, she decided to go for a walk so she could catch some air. It's usually what she does at home on nights like that. 8th had been a full moon's night and usually for two or three days after she felt like this, sore and in a bad mood. But also she felt like if the wolf hadn't left her completely yet, so she felt itchy and anxious and she needed to move. Therefore, staying in bed and trying to lullaby herself to sleep had been out of question. But Opeila didn’t knew that…and she was doing what every other Prefect would do in her shoes. So when Irina woke up that morning feeling like she had been hit by a train, she saw the note that Pei had sent her.
Without permission…so…it’s possible to get a permission?Dear Miss Sousa,
in the past night you have broken the third school rule (You may not be outside of your commons rooms after 8:00 pm without permission).
Well…if she regrets no one is forcing her... is it?As a consequence, I regret to inform you that you have been sentenced to detention.
“Uuuh huu!” She said in a cry, stomping her feet on the floor and pouting, “library, quill and parchment? Really Pei?!” She felt frustrated…after last night will she really make her stay still doing some sort of homework at the library? The girl has no empathy at all!!Please meet me in the library at 4 pm and bring quill and parchment.
“Kind….yes you’re so kind!” She said irritated while throwing the note away.Kind regards,
Opeila Winters
___Sitting in her bed, she closed her eyes and took a few breaths, Fine! Let’s have this done then…she thought trying to gain some courage and some sort of motivation. But then she remembered that she had to go to potions and herbology first…"Aaaaggh I’m going to die!" She muttered as she fell back onto the bed. Looking at the ceiling she felt herself calm down a little. Then she looked at her watch and saw what time was it…”Oh sssshhh! I’m late again!” she almost jumped, grabbing her bag with her school supplies and went running to the potion’s classroom.
___It was a long day…she felt her head heavy with the lack of sleep and her body hurt from head to toe. Just to move a finger was painful. But there was nothing she could had done, she had to go to Opeila and have her detention. Arriving at the library, she noticed that the oldest Slytherin girl was already sitting at one of the worktables. Irina took a deep breath before heading towards Pei, "Good afternoon Opeila!" She greeted trying to be polite, "Hello Irina, please sit there." the other girl replied mention her a chair were to sit. Irina did as she was told and sat down, "What am I supposed to do now?" she calmly asked her Prefect. "Right. I have a task prepared for you." Opeila said, while passing a note to her way across the table, "I will be doing some homework, let me know when you are done."
___Is she joking? Was the first thought that came to her mind. Opeila didn't had let her explain why was she there at that hour, actually if her memory wasn't failing her she had said something like 'I don't really care about your explanation'! Why is wrong sneaking at night... she sighed heavily in frustration. It's wrong because there's a stupid rule against it, that's why! She thought wanting to throw her bottle of ink at Opeila's head. But instead she putted it down on the table along with her quill and parchment. "Behave...behave! You can do this!" She said to herself in an almost soundless voice. Then she took her quill and began to dip it gently in the ink. Giving Opeila a last murderer stare, she finally focused her attention on the task at her hands.The note said:
1) Elaborate why sneaking out at night is wrong.
2) Describe 10 activities you could do at night in your dorm without waking anyone up or leaving your dorm when you can't sleep.

After finish it, Irina let her quill on her bottle of ink and softly blew to help the dark tint to dry on the parchment. While reading what she had written, she almost snorted at the irony and sarcasm on some of her answers. But well…she was just being honest!1) Elaborate why sneaking out at night is wrong.
Sneaking out at night is wrong because it is forbidden. Is one of the school rules. Even if you don’t agree with it, because it’s clearly an elitization followed by some kind of dictatorship that prevails in this school. Because you can go outside after curfew if you’re a Prefect, a professor or another member of the staff. Or if you have some sort of permission for it. It is extremely dangerous to get out of the castle at night, there are a lot of creatures and other dangers outside. Merlin help us if we find a werewolf on the grounds! Unless you’re a first year prefect, in that case you’re perfectly able to protect yourself and others.
2) Describe 10 activities you could do at night in your dorm without waking anyone up or leaving your dorm when you can't sleep.
1 - Meditation;
2 - Read a book;
3 - Draw;
4 - Write on my journal;
5 - Do some homework;
6 - Study;
7 - Write a letter;
8 - Look around and wait for sleep to come;
9 - Counting little lambs;
10 - Trying not to think about to prank someone.
Reaching her essay towards Opeila, she asked “There, can I go now?” She said it in a quiet voice but still, the rudeness in her words were still noticeable. She was not in a good mood and all that essay had been nonsense to her. If it was supposed for her to learn something with it…let’s say it didn’t worked much!

@Irina Sousa
Opeila was not paying much attention to any kind of emotion showing on Irina's face in response to the given task. Detentions weren't supposed to be fun, maybe the girl would be able to learn something from this one though. If she put her mind to the task of course.
... Which didn't seem to be the case. Soon, much sooner than the prefect had expected, Irina held a parchment in her direction, asking if she could go now.
Raising her brow in suspicion, Opeila took the parchment. "I'll read and decide then."
And thank god she did not just let her go, the essay clearly showed that Irina had not even tried to understand what she had done wrong.
In fact, Opeila only barely managed to swallow her anger as she read over the lines. Dictatorship? Did the first year really view this as some kind of injustice? Opeila took a deep breath and handed the essay back. "Right, I think there is a bit of a misunderstanding regarding what it is we do.", she started, managing to keep her tone completely calm, "Based on this essay, I take it you are under the impression that it is a matter of some people being allowed to leave the dorm at night and some not."
"Us prefects patrol the school every night at personal risk to make sure that everyone is in their dorm, so you don't put yourself at risk. You have luckily not seen the things I and many other of the older students have seen at this school and it is in our and your interest to keep it that way, believe me. Illowy followed you outside for a reason and it was damn good of her to do so." Opeila had not yet gotten a chance to speak to the older girl yet, maybe she could manage to catch her in the common room later.
"As to the supposed injustice- if I was caught outside by a Professor at 3 am without a good reason, you can be sure that I'll have to answer to that just like you would. We don't have a free pass of being out at nighttime, we just make the last rounds to make sure that everything is in order. That has nothing to do with dictatorship but safeguarding. Your guardians are trusting Hogwarts to keep you safe."
Opeila would lower her eyes on her own essay again. "To answer your question- No, you may not. Please put your mind to the task and actually do what it is asking, rather than venting frustrations. If you feel that the schoolsystem is treating you unfairly, you can adress that with Professor Jensen or Professor Lear.
After you finish your essay that means. A little suggestion- cut back on the sarcasm."

Feeling bored and annoyed at the given task, Irina made it as quickly as she could. She didn't even cared about what she had actually written there, just first things that came to her mind no filters for sarcasm included. So as soon as every question was answered, in her opinion, she got up from her sit and returned her essay to Opeila. The older girl took a look on what she had done and by the way she took a deep breath she wasn't really pleased with what she had read despite the calm tone of her voice when she patiently explained to her what was the real purpose and tasks that the prefects had to do at Hogwarts. She tried her best to make the young snake to see that being a prefect was not a way to get permission to sneak out or to have access to some privileges that others don't.
"...You have luckily not seen the things I and many other of the older students have seen at this school and it is in our and your interest to keep it that way, believe me. Illowy followed you outside for a reason and it was damn good of her to do so." It was a tremendous effort not to snort at hearing this...Yeah right! I've never seen an horror on my life! She thought sarcastically, Never met one!

It was time for Irina to have a deep breath taking back the piece of parchment from Opeila's hand and turning back, to let herself fall into her chair looking like a little child in a tantrum. Lifting her hands to cover her face for a minute, she mentally cursed her life and the older Slytherin girl seated next to her. After venting in her thoughts and thinking for awhile, she decided to answer the question being a "nice girl" even if she had to say every word a new lie.
She almost felt like throwing up after writing all of that, but kept a calm expression, just leting a gentle smile to grow in her lips, “Okay Opeila, I’m sorry for…” She stopped not sure what were the nice words she had to say now…no, not that! she knew what she had to say! Just had to concentrate to actually look like she wanted and believed in those words! “I’m sorry for my behaviour earlier! I was being childish!” She said regretful, “Here, now I absolutely admire and respect people who actually put themselves at risk for others! So…thank you! And I apologise again” she said being as more honest as she could manage. It is true what she said, every single word! Just not yet sure that all prefects were worthy of them!1) Elaborate why sneaking out at night is wrong.
Sneaking out at night is wrong because it is forbidden. Is one of the school rules. Because you can't go outside after curfew unless you have a specific permission for it. It is extremely dangerous to get out of the castle at night, there are a lot of creatures and other dangers outside. We must be grateful to everyone who puts their lives at risk to keep us safe, and the minimum we can do is being respectful and stay out of trouble and follow what is said for our well being.
