Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 11
It had taken Nessie six tries, but at last she had figured out aiming and her spell met its mark.
"Sorry!" she called out before she could stop herself, because while she wanted to win the duel, her instincts still screamed that it wasn't nice to hit people with spells.
Admittedly, for her trouble she'd now been hit by two of the very same spell she'd been trying to use this whole entire time, so was trying to give back what she was getting really a bad thing? Probably not. And to be honest, Nessie didn't really know how many more hits like this she could take before she wouldn't be able to duel, so she tried hard not to feel guilty about trying to hit her opponents with spells. That was what they were here to do, after all.

ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | Yes there was a trend being started here. Being known as the Flipendo Prince when it came to dueling, it wasn't a surprise that Kim kept using that spell. However, the others had also started making use of it too. Perhaps they'd been influenced by him? Or maybe they'd just wanted to use one of the more basic spells. There was also the idea that they just liked what it looked like when the spell was cast, as it was a pretty blue light. Whatever the reason, the duel was becoming a Flipendo match, rather than a dueling match. Who would be the first to break that streak? Or would the match continue like this all the way up until the end? Kim had to admit, it might be fun if that ended up happening, had there ever been such a match? Would they make history by being the first to achieve such a feat? Kim had once again managed to land his trademark spell on his opponent. However, by doing so, he was unable to dodge perfectly when Nessie's spell came at him at the same time. After all, stabilizing yourself while casting and giving the spell the right incantation and wand movements was difficult to do if your mind strayed elsewhere. Dodging perfectly was something one couldn't do without giving it a bit of focus. It was worth it though, as his own spell had hit its mark. If he'd ended up failing... Well, it wouldn't have been worth it then. Thankfully, luck had been on his side. Everly had also hit her target, Nessie and Kim was glad she was doing well. The two of them did well together as a team and they had a high chance to emerge victorious. Kim was laser focused on this duel, his mind did not stray to anything other than what spell he'd use, who he'd target and what his partner was going to do. Those things were all that mattered to him right now. It kept him from thinking about other things and he could only hope that he wasn't knocked unconscious by the end of the match. That meant sleep, which meant potential dreams. Dreams he didn't want to face anytime soon. It was why he'd been throwing himself into things. Classes, homework, studies, clubs. He rarely had time for friends anymore as the orange haired boy made sure to never have any free time. As a result, Kim's insomnia had lately been starting to make its appearance again. It hadn't bothered him as much ever since Sophia had come into his life and bonded with him. But ever since... well, it had started to come back on a more frequent basis. Kim let his blue eyes flicker over his two opponents. Who to target next and what spell to use? He glanced over at Everly again to silently check with her as to what she was going to do. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 11
Perhaps Julian had spoken too soon. Certainly, it could be worse, but he had to admit it was pretty bad when, after having succeeded at dodging Kim's last spell, he suddenly found himself wheezing and doubling over to try and catch his breath. It seemed like the adrenaline that had been keeping him mobile and casting had suddenly run out and his body had just given up. He closed his eyes, feeling weak and woozy and unable to bring himself to cast again or sidestep the spell that inevitably came his way. He stumbled, struggling to regain his footing.
And then, just like magic (or, exactly like magic), his sinus and mind cleared; the exhaustion faded and while he wasn't quite as good as new, he felt much better. He inhaled and turned his gaze towards Nessie, who had at least landed a hit while he'd standing there, useless.
"Nicely done," he muttered.

Hufflepuff hadn't been doing too well for a while, especially with Julian suffering under the Curse of the Bogies, but now they were both back and working in brutal tandem. Nessie seemed to have finally hit her stride, landing yet another Flipendo. That was definitely starting to suck for Kim. What was worse, Julian followed the brilliant blue spell with a blindfold that stole the Gryffindor's vision. It didn't matter how experienced you were on the duelling piste, a blindfold was always bad news. Well, almost always. There were the Galtons of the world that seemed to thrive without being able to see anything.
Kim was trying to get something going, but he was a little too slow, and between the Knockback Jinx stealing the air from his lungs and the abrupt loss of his sight, any attempt at a spell would be abandoned. And unfortunately, Everly also seemed to freeze up at this key moment. It wasn't decisive yet, but the Hufflepuffs were certainly turning this thing around.

────────────────────── ㅤ
ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | The duel was starting to change. For some reason, his partner didn't seem to be focused on the duel, which was bothering the orange haired boy. Why would you even participate in a duel if you weren't going to devote 100% of your focus on it? There wasn't any logical reason why you shouldn't give it your all, unless you were suffering from being debuffed by a spell. Such as a curse, being blindfolded, or wrapped inside a smokescreen. If any of those three things happened, it would make sense to get distracted because it was unavoidable. But his partner had been left untouched by all three. Caught up in his thoughts, Kim was struck by a familiar bright blue spell he'd managed to land on his opponents a few times. All the way up until now he'd been the only one able to land that spell on his opponents. But now it was his turn to get hit by it. And directly after that a brilliant blue spell followed, stealing his vision. Kim was familiar with this spell too, it was one his former dueling partner had done during their summer match. The very first official duel he'd ever taken part in. Galton had done an impressive job back then, although that was to be expected as he was a higher year and happened to be Gryffindor's dueling co-captain. But being on the receiving end was worse, especially right now. Darkness surrounded him. The only thing he could see was darkness. And Kim was scared of the dark and darkness on a general basis. Well, complete darkness. He didn't freak out if it was partial, unless it was partial and then some light popped up out of nowhere. That was really scary and would usually make him scream and run off, without thinking too much about where he was going. But lately, darkness meant something different to him. Nowadays it made him think about sleep, sleep made him think about dreams. And dreams... dreams were problematic and tended to be recurring ones about a certain someone. Who had made him give his word not to tell anyone that she was gone or where she was. Being in darkness made him think about Sophia. One thing was for certain, Kim needed to get rid of this blindfold as soon as possible. He didn't even care about winning or losing this fight at the moment, all that was going through his mind was to get out of this darkness. Although, getting knocked out by his opponents would end with the same result. Therefore, Kim determined not to get KO'ed and to get this blindfold away from his eyes. Once the latter was done, he'd be able to focus 100% on winning the match again! But until then, all his focus would be on the blindfold. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

Nessie couldn't believe it. Considering how inaccurate her aim had been at the start of the duel, she genuinely hadn't expected to land a second spell so quickly after the first. She couldn't be certain if she was just getting lucky, or if she was finally getting properly accustomed to duelling. Maybe she'd just needed the first half of the duel to warm up?
This was her first ever duel, after all. It made sense that it might take her some time to really figure out the finer points of the sport.
But what was fortunate for her was unfortunate for the opposition. Nessie might've felt guilty, except that she'd been hit twice already. She was just giving what she got, wasn't she?
And not only had she succeeded in her efforts, but Julian seemed much improved and had achieved an impressive hit too. Nessie smiled at her partner. "Nicely done," she returned the compliment he'd paid her the previous round, trying not to get overly excited about their prospects.

Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 11
It felt like they had been at it forever, trading spells back and forth with the Gryffindors, but finally, finally Julian managed to connect a spell. It was the kind of spell Julian would prefer to hit his opponents with, given the choice; the kind that disabled but didn't hurt. Unfortunately, that kind of spell, by itself, would never win a duel, but Kim had proven adept enough at dodging that it seemed warranted. Julian grinned, jerking his head slightly in acknowledgement of Nessie's compliment.
The grin didn't last very long, of course, they still had a ways to go if they wanted to come out on top. His body was still feeling the aftereffects of the curse, and he knew he wouldn't last very long if he started getting hit again. They needed to focus and end the duel quickly. He tightened his grip on his wand and widened his stance in case he needed to dodge again.

Being blindfolded was a very bad spot to be in. Kim had to get the thing off of himself, but it wouldn't be so easy as untangling the knot at the back of his head. No, he was going to have spells incoming. He was not going to have help from Everly, whatever was going on there.
The Hufflepuffs did not disappoint, sending twin bursts of the blue-colored jinxes. If both landed, that may have been it for Kim, that many Flipendoes was enough to take out the average duellist. But by some show of immense dexterity, be that inherent skill Kim possessed or some luck granted to him by the universe in the spur of the moment, he was able to move fast and fluidly enough to avoid Nessie's cast. He didn't even fall flat on his face in the process, which he would surely count as a win.
What was not so optimal for the Gryffindor was Julian's spell, which did strike true. Julian was one of the more experienced duellists here, and so surely knew how to not miss a blindfolded opponent. It would hurt, the impact, and Kim discarded that blindfold not looking too well. He was still standing, but for how much longer? Could he at least take someone down with him?

────────────────────── ㅤ
ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | Kim was determined. Very determined to get rid of the darkness that was surrounding him right now. It was the only thing that mattered. That was when he instinctively dodged, even though the blindfold was still wrapped around his eyes. Kim wasn't entirely sure why he'd done so but his instincts had told him to do so and he'd done it. Could someone have been trying to cast a spell at him? Maybe, maybe not. Who knew? All Kim knew was that his instincts had never failed him before when it really mattered. Reaching up, Kim's fingers skimmed over the blindfold and found the knot at the back of his head. Deft fingers were able to undo it within a matter of seconds and the world came back into view. Just in time. A familiar blue spell came at him again, but Kim wasn't able to dodge it in time. This time he wasn't so lucky about the area it hit, as the previous spells had all hit body parts that didn't matter. Such as the arm, shoulder or side. This one, the one Julian had just aimed at him, happened to strike his right temple. It was the first attack that had actually done some damage to him. Well, damage that would linger for a time. Kim felt a little dizzy but managed to stay on his feet. He wouldn't go down. Not yet. The teen still had some energy and strength left inside.... The last thing he wanted was to pass out. Not because of his pride. But because of what unconsciousness would bring with it. Not that anyone knew. It was solely this thought that kept him on his feet and from losing consciousness. For now. Most in his situation would defend and pour all their focus into trying to dodge whatever spells came their way for the next round, just to give themselves some time to recover. But Kim... defending himself wasn't really in his vocabulary. Defending others? Definitely. He'd protected Sophia on a number of occasions. Even Precious. But himself? Never. If he was going to go down, he'd go down fighting rather than defending himself. Yes, Kim had a partner with him in the duel. But where was she? He didn't mean physically, he meant mentally. It didn't make sense to him, why was she just standing there? Could she not be in the best mind state right now? If so, why didn't she ask to be removed from the match? Kim couldn't help but be annoyed and worried about her at the same time. It was dangerous for someone to take place in a match and lose their mind and focus, just standing there. She would be a sitting duck against their opponents. If she didn't snap out of it soon, Kim had a feeling he would need to protect her, even if he had to tackle. Kim glanced over at Everly again. Then, returned his attention to the two opponents before him. They were both decent duelists and had some skill. But that was to be expected from Julian, as he was a third year. Kim wondered how many years of experience he had in dueling. As for Nessie, he hadn't known she was on the dueling team. But she definitely had promise. The only question remaining was what were they going to do and how would he counter their actions? ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 11
Nessie had gotten her hopes up after she'd landed a few hits, that perhaps she might be a decent duellist after all.
And then the missing was back - and this time she missed an opponent who was blindfolded. Nessie wondered if Kim was just that good (entirely possible, although slightly discouraging for Nessie to realize that her skills were so far behind those of a fellow second year) or if there was more to it. She did feel slightly guilty to be targeting someone who was blindfolded, and what if that guilt had gotten through to her aim when she'd cast?
However, if she was feeling guilt, she'd have to resolve the feelings soon, as she needed to be prepared for any spells that might come Hufflepuff's way again. She responded to Julian's head movement with a subtle nod of her own. The duel was progressing, and with it came the challenge for those who'd taken some hits. Nessie knew what happened when duellists took too many hits, and she'd seen knockouts happen up close when she'd moderated duels in her role as co-captain. To avoid that fate for her partner and herself, she needed to keep her focus.
