Dinah listened carefully to the spiel, trying to pay attention but getting lost under the long and seemingly unnecessary explanation. There was one part however that Dinah found quite interesting.

So this fellow Gryffindor wasn’t all that pleased about being in the house of the brave either. At least they had something in common. Looking the boy up and down, Dinah had to say he did seem to hold himself differently. Confidently. But there was something about the way he talked, something that made you feel if you turned your back for too long you might find a knife there. It wasn’t altogether a negative thing, Dinah respected those who could stand up for themselves. But she knew it was better to wait to pass judgement, after all she had only had five minutes conversation with this boy.

I haven’t seen you in the common room. I know what you mean though, I hadn’t placed myself in Gryffindor either.” Dinah shrugged, her hand running breifly over the lion on her robes. At a guess she would say that the boy in front of her had had a similar idea as she did, that Slytherin would have been a better choice.

She watched the other boy gather his fallen plants. He seemed anxious, nervous. Dinah listened as he explained what he was doing and why.

I’ve never heard of that before. Maybe I’ll have to try some sometime.” Dinah smiled at him and his basket. He seemed much more timid than his friend and she wondered how such a relationship had occurred. “I’m Dinah. Dinah Dragensail. I was enjoying some peace and quiet before you two showed up and made things a bit more interesting.”

Giving up all pretence of being wary of them, Dinah took the few final steps until she was stood within touching distance of the two boys.

Green's eyebrow rose and fell as he heard that the girl shared his sentiments about house placement. Perhaps there were worse things than being sorted into the 'House of the Brave' after all.

"So you share my sentiments?" he grinned, sitting up. "Not to be unkind, but I'm pleased to hear it. I've been largely avoiding the common areas because I felt out of place. There's so much..." He rolled one shoulder, grimaced. "Cheer, I suppose. Of a certain variety. Quidditch... dueling... rights activism for portraits," he scoffed. "That sort of thing," he rolled his eyes.

Looking her up and down, he grinned. She had something of a stern aura about her, hard and cold like steel, but not quite military - just precise enough to be dangerous. He liked that. It reminded of him of home. "I'm curious as to where you would have preferred to have gone," he confessed. "Dragensail... that's not a name I've heard before. Where does it come from?" he asked, head tilted. Such things could be useful to know. It was also a roundabout way to ask whether the Dragensails were 'somebodies' without implying that he cared which families were 'somebodies' or weren't.

Looking over at November, Green raised the other brow. "So they're for dinner. Have you found a way to cook things without getting caught sneaking into the kitchens yet?" he asked.

"Touch me, Midas; make me part of your design."

November could only cock his head in idle curiosity as the two Gryffindors spoke of their house, wearing his own badge of silver and green with more and more pride each day. He liked being in Slytherin. Yes, there were all the rumours and attitudes of how awful Slytherin was amongst the other students, but, he liked that too. It was, honest. At least in his case.

However, as the conversation turned back to clover, he brightened considerably. "Oh, yes, it's, it's not often done, but I'm really not sure why. They're quite tasty," he said with a small laugh. It was probably because most people tended to have plenty of access to market vegetables, instead of having to go out and forage for them when the cupboards were bare, but what could one do?

"Well, they still won't let me into the kitchens," November admitted with a soft sigh and a rather more pronounced pout, "but I've realized that a cauldron is essentially the same thing as a cookpot, so I can make anything that can be cooked in a pot, really. Like clover leaves, and curry, if I could get my hands on the ingredients, but alas, still no paninis." He looked wistful at this, downright mournful, before returning his attention to the matter at hand.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Dinah," he said softly, "My name's November Morsus." He spoke his own name even softer. He, like Green, didn't know if Dragensail was one of the prestigious names about the wizarding world or not, and those with prestigious names tended to respond less favourably to one like Morsus, who no one had ever heard of and November himself wasn't sure was even a real name at all.

And it's a strange breed, a different kind of creature looks for love through the eye of a needle
