─────The sudden movement of the owl proves too quick for the boy’s addled mind. A sharp jolt of pain shoots up the length of his hand, pulsing from the finger that the bird apparently decided looked far too tempting to resist temptation. The quick chomp is accompanied by a rather undignified squeak of pain. Quickly pulling his hand back, Kolya cradles it towards his chest and tries to stem the steady flow of blood from the tip of his finger. Another animal bite to add to his track record, lovely. The young Russian sends a scowl the owl’s way, though it lacks any real bite. It resembles nothing more than a teary-eyed pout. “What the hell, bird?” A litany of muttered curses follow.

Using the opposite sleeve to try and haphazardly wrap the pierced finger Kolya takes a stumbling step backwards, mind still a little fuzzy from his unwitting dosage of potion. Maybe this petting zoo wasn’t the best idea in hindsight. This was still Hogwarts, after all. The boy eyes the massive owl, considerably more weary now. "Not nice," he scolds, swapping to heavily accented English. He didn't bother spending the time to try and ponder why he was still talking to the bird. Maybe a little wishful thinking that it may feel some shame. Actually. Another darting glance is taken around the area. Did it somehow escape from an enclosure? Maybe he needs to report a dangerous animal on the loose.

As Flash followed the path to the grounds, he would keep a hold of Eun-ji so that there would be no chance of becoming separated. The sounds of animals became apparent, especially the all-too-familiar sound of whinnying. He would wonder for a moment if he had made the right decision, but it was quickly put aside again. He could change his mind later if he needed to, and part of him was curious to witness Eun-ji's thoughts and feelings on the creatures. Flash himself knew better than to enroll in Care of Magical Creatures class, instead taking the electives of Divination, Ancient Runes, and continuing with Flying classes. In fact, the thought of classes would make him wonder exactly what career path Eun-ji had envisioned for herself, and whether he would be around long enough to see what kind of person she grew into.

"You may have to educate me, I can't say I know much about these kinds of things."

It wouldn't take long for them to approach the pen area though, and the crowd was much thinner there. The fresh evening air would be refreshing and keep him wakeful, or at least it would be if not for the pervasive smell that always came with animals. No matter how clean they were kept with magic, it was somehow unavoidable. Perhaps he had spent too many hours in muggle stables, but something about it irked him. He had a sensitive nose, but was at least thankful he did not have allergies like his dorm mate Hanako did.

"What do you-- oh, look there." Before Flash could ask more question of his date, he would spot her cousin across the way. He would head that way next, having already mentioned he wanted to get to know Ye-jun better the next time the international students visited. As he got closer though, he was surprised to see Burnett there as well. "Burnett... Ye-jun, good evening."

Initially Flash's words would be despondent. It wasn't that long ago that Burnett had helped Flash replace his eye, though it was not a particularly joyous occasion. For one, the eye was blind, for two, there was an ominous message left behind by whatever was created by the ritual Burnett put on, and for three, replacing an eyeball without anesthesia was a hideous experience that he had been required to live through twice. He no longer had a foreign object in his skull, but he still did not know if the price had been worth it. This was how curses were, there was never a clean solution, never a point at which one could return to how things used to be.

"I'm sorry... do you two know one another?" Flash would attempt to move on quickly, after all, what was done was done.

Felix's question would be answered, but not with very much clarifying detail, [”Having fun!”]

Once his teasing went off without a hitch, he would chuckle at Felix's fluster. The boy had devoted himself to training his strength and overcoming his fear of water alongside Yefim, so there was a respect that blossomed from watching his earnest attempt to catch up to the older kids. Still, he needed to learn how to take a joke, and the power that came from not caring about what other people think of him. Not that Yefim was a teacher, he would teach by example if anything.

[”Sir Yefim? I don't know, seems beneath me. Lord Yefim... Master Yefim...”] With as big as Yefim's smile was, bearing his trademark evil grin, it was clear he was enjoying himself. Life was all about spending time with friends, as he aged he found less fun antagonizing strangers and was more drawn to the chance to play around with his pals instead. [”Muzhik1!”]

Once Felix angrily let go of his hand, only to grab it again immediately, he would be led forward very willingly, and with a great amount of jest. He looked on in wonder at the collection of magical creatures around, though was sad that they didn't have a dragon. Well, of course they didn't have a dragon, but he still kinda hoped they might. Even more cute than the crups though was Felix's reaction to them Yefim knew Felix liked them, but had never seen his reaction for himself. His edge turned into softness in seconds flat.

[”Crups are the best. I can't believe they have them trapped in here like this.”] Yefim would watch Felix pet the creature, putting out his hand to another one of them that had noticed their pen was being approached. [”Imagine having a huge piece of land they could wander at their leisure. They're intelligent creatures, they deserve some autonomy.”]

Florian wasn't in any mood to note his date's disposition, and it was probably clear to everyone but Florian that she wasn't happy with how things were going either. He was trying to save things, they walked all the way down to this petting zoo and by god she was going to enjoy herself if it was the last thing she did.

Of course that's when other things, or people, get in the way.

Sorry. The boy who had so clearly been in Florian's way had simply said sorry. On top of that, he had this stupid smile plastered on his face. It almost reminded him of... but no, it couldn't be. For a moment, Florian caught a glimpse of another boy he knew in the face of the Brazilian. Or, a boy he used to know. It had been quite a time since he had thought of him.

Memories flooded to the forefront of his brain, beginning to anger the teen more. He clenched his jaw tightly, trying to hold back his uncontrollable anger. But then the boy began to drone on and on about some boy named Conrad, clearly not picking up the french insult he had tossed at the floor, and Florian's temper broke. He no longer cared what his date thought, in fact, really he thought that taking on another boy at a crowded ball should impress her, but, in reality, there was absolutely no way that this could go well for him.

Taking a second to look after his date for once this evening, he would attempt to move her to the side, away from what was about to be a skirmish. Quickly, he drew his wand from his pants, and, thinking of something that might shut the boy up, he cast a spell at him.

"Steleus!" Florian said, whipping his wand at the boy. Perhaps a fit of sneezing from the boy would give Florian a slight respite from his rage.

Eun-ji’s eyes sparkled at the display of all the creatures inhabiting the magical petting ZOO. She’d always felt much more comfortable surrounded by animals than people. Here, she had to share space with both but Flash holding onto her hand made the witch completely forget about the latter. She just wished her grandmother hadn’t chosen such fancy wardrobe for the occasion. Well, It's no use crying over spilled milk. She would have to live with it as usual. “I’d be happy to.” The Ravenclaw smiled at her date once he admitted he didn’t know much about the magical creatures. She honestly didn’t expect him to and didn’t mind either. This was one of her interests, he had his own. She should be able to answer his questions and they probably wouldn’t linger here for too long anyway. Eun-ji was already plenty grateful to be here at all. She didn’t plan on torturing Flash longer than absolutely necessary.

“First things first,” the girl said as she dragged the boy towards the box with protective gloves. “You are not getting hurt on my watch.” However, even as she passed the Slytherin his pair of gloves, she still felt somewhat unwilling to let go of his hand. It was honestly embarrassing at this point but seeing as they weren’t interacting with any creatures yet, she supposed it was okay to do so for just a little bit longer. Now…what should we see? Eun-ji pondered briefly. She was definitely intending to choose something nonthreatening. “What do you-- oh, look there.” Flash was obviously about to ask the same question but for some reason didn’t get to finish it. The Ravenclaw looked around to see what caught his attention so suddenly.

“Oh…well I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised we ran into each other here.” After all, Ye-jun was just as fond of animals as she was. “안녕./ Annyong.” Hi. She greeted her cousin in their usual manner. Same as Flash though, she was a bit caught off guard by his companion for the evening. Ye-jun did tell her he found a last minute date but he never elaborated on who it was. This was unusual to say the least. Considering their first encounter, she would assume he’d want nothing to do with Jack Burnett and yet…here they were. Still, Eun-ji decided to reserve her judgement for later, she didn’t have the details and wasn’t really familiar with the redhead either. It wouldn't be fair to him. Besides, Ye-jun was always careful when choosing people he hang out with so she decided to trust his decision for now. She just worried about her own company, not really sure how the two snakes felt about each other right now.

Flash didn’t sound very excited at first but he managed to go with the flow eventually. “Great, now we both look like a pair of snobs.” Eun-ji commented once she gave her cousin’s suit a once-over. It was also an attempt to somewhat lighten up the atmosphere of this strange rendezvous. Ye-jun huffed in response but quickly remembered his manners and offered Flash his hand. “It’s nice to finally meet you.” Eun-ji let the two get acquainted and instead smiled slightly in Jack’s direction. “Hi, you two having fun?” she greeted the boy softly. Despite feeling a bit uncertain about all this, she wasn’t about to ignore her classmate. She also made sure to look as calm and collected as always. It took a lot to see her flustered in any capacity.

“I mean…you stole my cousin so I decided to borrow your dormmate. It only seemed fair.” The words registered in Eun-ji’s brain far too quickly to proceed with her own exchange any further. Instead, she threw her cousin a look he was no doubt very familiar with. “Alright alright... Yes, it was an unexpected library meeting. Yesterday to be precise. We talked a bit and found out we were both dateless so we decided to go together. Sounded more fun that way.” The Ravenclaw nodded. It was still curious but who was she to say, whom Ye-jun found intriguing enough to spend the evening with? They must have clicked together well if he chose him even after the whole punching experience and in any case, she was glad he didn’t have to go alone because of her. This would be fine….right?

"You're welcome," Jack answered when he was thanked for the gloves. He laughed lightly when he was answered in turn, though, regarding which animals Ye-jun liked. "So the ones that should be adored and treated with affection aren't worthy of respect?" he teased, imagining some of the creatures people would consider 'cute' and how some might have wished for respect rather than to be adored. He only entertained the anthropomorphic thought briefly, however, figuring that, in reality, they probably couldn't have cared less what humans thought of them so long as they were well-cared for. That was just the nature of animals.

His gaze followed the Beauxbatons student's gaze to the thestrals and he glanced back at his companion, curious. So Ye-jun could see them, too? He wondered what had happened to cause that, but dare not ask. That was certainly not material for a first date conversation. He knew he wouldn't have enjoyed recounting the summer that a fellow Slytherin had died in his arms.

Upon hearing about Ye-jun's father's vet clinic and the cats there, Jack grinned. His grin only grew broader at the mention of the nifflers because he was quite aware just how attracted they would be to Ye-jun's outfit. But...was that a girl over there by the nifflers? Jack had seen her around before and knew her name was Aida, a Ravenclaw, but he had never personally met her. Was she...doing something with the nifflers? Maybe just feeding them.

Redirecting his attention back to his date, Jack smirked. "Yeah, sure, but...do you think the baby unicorn will be okay with us? We're guys, after all." He had heard unicorns had a preference for girls, but maybe that was just the adults. Perhaps the foals practiced no such discrimination. If not, it would be cool to see one up close and maybe pet it.

Ye-jun's comment on treating animals like humans was met with a nod from Jack. "A life is a life. I agree with that, too. It's just a little strange when Jake Morris goes around talking to animals like they understand him, but then again we have supposedly non-magical owls who know exactly where to go when we ask them to send a letter, so who knows where to draw the line? I certainly don't anymore."

When he was asked about animals or magical creatures he was particularly fond of, Jack developed a wicked smile. "Lethifolds fascinate me. It seems so weird that such a dangerous creature can seem so unassuming to us humans. Glad they're not common around here. But for the most part, I like the creatures who are sentient, like us. Centaurs and merfolk and the like. I guess it's my natural inclination toward intelligence. Too bad I'll probably never meet one in person."

Just as he was finishing his reply, Jack heard a familiar voice and jerked his head toward it, startled. "Oh, Flash. Eun-ji. Good evening," he replied with a polite smile and, because he felt like it, a bow. He didn't miss the despondency in Flash's tone, however, and he couldn't blame him for it, either. Feeling a little awkward, especially after the last time he had seen Eun-ji, he looked to Ye-jun instead who had been greeted by his cousin.

Eun-ji's comment that they both looked like a pair of snobs earned an involuntary laugh from Jack and he was grateful for her efforts. While Ye-jun spoke to Flash, Jack turned to Eun-ji and nodded enthusiastically. "We are very much, thank you. Are you two? You look beautiful, by the way."

Hearing Ye-jun's words about Flash having stole his cousin, the redhead couldn't help a snort of amusement and promptly put a fist up to his mouth to hide his smile. Said smile became subdued at the look Eun-ji gave Ye-jun, hoping he hadn't put Ye-jun in too awkward of a position, but the Korean boy calmly explained what had happened the previous day.

"I promise not to go around punching anyone tonight," Jack assured them all putting up a hand with a small, sheepish grin, also trying to relieve some of the tension but not sure if his method was a good idea. "Not that I'm all that good at fighting to begin with anyway, heh..." He cleared his throat as if trying to clear the air. "So! We were just going to take a look at the baby unicorn. Would you care to join us, or did you have something else you wanted to go see?"

After hearing Jack’s reply, Ye-jun slightly panicked. “What? No no…that’s not what I meant. I simply wanted to point out that…” they are different. His brain supplied and the boy was about to explain further. How he thought dogs, for example, wanted affection whereas Hippogriffs needed space but then it hit him. He narrowed his eyes. “You are teasing me.” The revelation was accompanied by a grin and a gentle shoulder nudge. It’s been some time since someone did so and he kind of liked it. Somehow people got the idea that they should not tease him, although him keeping distance probably did have something or everything to do with it. Tonight however, Ye-jun found it strangely easy to let his guard down.

There was a moment of silence where both of the boys glanced toward the most ominous creature present but neither addressed the issue. It was probably not a good topic for a first date. Instead, the conversation shifted towards his dad’s occupation and what they should do next. “Yeah I wouldn’t approach the big one but the foal looks quite friendly. I thought that might be a chance for us to actually get close to one…and if he doesn’t seem keen, we can always turn around and go somewhere else.” He shrugged. The Beauxbatons student could usually read the animal signs well so he should be able to tell if it was better not to approach the unicorn. “I see…I tend to talk to them as well but don’t expect them to really understand. The tone of your voice is something that they can comprehend for sure though. I don’t know if the magical pets are able to understand more or not so I treat them the same but honestly? Mordred, Eun-ji’s cat, seems almost freakishly clever. He is one of those that make you wonder if they can indeed understand every word you are saying.” He shook his head. The boy loved Mordred but he could be scary sometimes.

Ye-jun nodded thoughtfully, upon hearing what Jack’s favourite creature was. “Yeah, those are both terrifying and extremely fascinating, although I’d rather not meet one. Especially since I can’t do the patronus charm yet.” He paused there. “I wonder what it will look like when I do.” He often thought about it but didn’t dare to guess. He honestly just hoped, he’d succeed learning it. It was a difficult spell to master. “Centaurs and merfolk are certainly interesting but I’m wary of them. Also, I get the feeling that they are quite happy about the fact that most of us won’t get the chance to meet them. Still, I can understand why you’d like to.” Ye-jun didn’t get to ask anything else after that as they were suddenly approached by another pair of students. One of which was awfully familiar.

“안녕 사촌../ Annyong sachon.” Hi, cousin. The boy retorted automatically. The atmosphere didn’t seem great at first but Ye-jun wanted to meet Flash for some time now so he elected to ignore it. Eun-ji kept mentioning him often, sometimes even unintentionally, which meant he was very important to her. The wizard huffed at her comment about their clothes. It was clear to him that she was just trying to lighten up the mood since she wasn’t the one to choose her own dress and therefore wasn’t really responsible for it. “It’s nice to finally meet you.” At last, the Beauxbatons offered his hand to Flash. There was not much he could take away from such short interaction though. He was handsome for sure but Eun-ji wasn’t the kind of person that would take interest in someone solely because of their looks. Ye-jun considered what to ask next but Flash beat him to it. Taking interest in how the two boys knew each other.

“I mean…you stole my cousin so I decided to borrow your dormmate. It only seemed fair.” He tried to joke a little bit at first before being wordlessly reprimanded by his cousin. Ye-jun understood why she did it. The Ravenclaw most likely didn’t want to make things awkward for her date and so he apologized and told the truth. All in all, it looked like everybody tried their best to be friendly and joke around. Even Jack eventually chirped in with his own. The Beauxbatons student smiled at his promise. “And you’d better keep it because I will take you down.” He teased. To anybody involved, this was just a friendly banter but Ye-jun knew…as much as he hated violence and wouldn’t be eager to return the blow, he wasn’t above defence and good hammerlock could go a long way. No way it would come to that tonight though. Tonight was supposed to be fun.

The famous albino of Hogwarts @Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood had come here with only one mission in mind; the mission that had been issued to her by the Undead King; a facsimile or fractal of her slightly splintered psyche. A hallucination, perhaps. An animated apparition, maybe. Whatever it was in its nature, whatever it meant to the albino; it had issued an order to her concerning the animals that were being caged for the amusement of the student body.

The instructions were simple, as the Undead King had indicated to one pen in particular that was running amuck with Nifflers and their shiny objects therein. Freedom. Freedom was the command that had been issued to the wix and her familiar owl. Grant the same freedom to these creatures as any of their wild brethren. I would hesitate to say 'make them as free as humans', for arguably even those of homo sapiens were in their own cages and vices, trapped by designs of their own making and the inherent darkness that infiltrated every pore and crack of their nature. Indeed, it had been by human hands that these creatures had been placed here. It would only be by the hand of one of their own that they would truly be freed.

And this was where the human who despised their humanity would come into play; one who knew animals like their own self, one who considered their spirit to be more of an animal than that of a human in reality. Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood was the perfect storm for the incoming rapture of these creatures; starting first with the Nifflers. With the assistance of the Nifflers' distractions, Aida could then continue her quest. Eventually, every animal would be freed from their confines-- if Aida was allowed to have her way.

So, with swift hands, Aida made quick work at unfastening every clasp, every bind that held the enclosure together. Perhaps with the additional help of a Diffindo here and an Alohomora there, but eventually the gate would be completely unsecured. All it would take was a single, firm hand to open it entirely.

Aida had neither a tendency to do things delicately nor hesitantly, and with a flourish, the gate would be open; releasing the Nifflers upon the Grounds to cause havoc to anyone in the vicinity (everyone feel free to interact with these runaway beasties, they're gonna try to steal all of your shinies)! What a twist for the decade! Nifflers on the loose! The platypus-like creatures with the agility of a weasel easily dipped in and out of the immediate crowd; running between legs, scampering over shoes, attempting to scrabble up and down shoulders. These had been a handful enough for those who had already handled them once in their Care of Magical Creatures class, but for those who had never interfaced with these highly puppy-like animals it was downright overwhelming! These creatures had no sense of personal space nor any understanding of a person 'owning' the things that were on their person! Hold on to your valuables, or else they might just vanish!

In the chaos, Nifflers continued to scamper about and roll like excited dogs, some satisfied to stick around and play with the shiny things on the Grounds. Others, however, were not nearly as satisfied with such mundane items. They saw a castle not too far off, after all. A castle that appeared all aglitter with lights and sparkling decorations. A Niffler's fantasy; one could only dream of the sort of sparkly and shiny baubles and trinkets that they would be able to find within those sacred and hallowed magical halls. Treasures that were ripe for the taking and storing within those incredibly large pouches of theirs. Treasures that would grace their new hordes.

By the tens, Nifflers began to rush Hogwarts proper...

Leaving the pen with the Kneazles, Crups, and Jarveys, Dora looks around at the groups of students and thinks. 'Perhaps it's time to turn in for the night.' Just a few hours earlier, she thought she'd rather be sick with dragon pox than go to the ball. Now, she thinks the ball has been too good to last. She enjoyed the food, the decorations, and she pet a beautiful Kneazle. But even so, there's only so long she can be at such a large gathering before feeling overwhelmed.

Her eyes land on a pen some meters away and she hesitates. A unicorn?! Dora's eyes widen at the majestic creature. She's learned that unicorns are said to be pure souls, and they only approach wizards who are also pure of heart. The idea of it almost scares Dora, that something would be able to see right through her, and possibly judge her to be unworthy. She already knows she is, and she's had to hide it. Still, another part of her is tempted to approach the beast, to let it see inside her. To share the secret with another soul.

So Dora stands there, torn between the unicorn pen and the exit. However, an unlikely incident would soon interrupt this decision. She hears a commotion begin nearby, some confused and startled noises from students and animals. Dora gasps sharply as she spots a pen open, and sees many little dark creatures scamper out of it quickly. She quickly turns and runs to the table with a Professor and older Ravenclaw student on duty, and exclaims in alarm, "Some of the animals got out!"

Hopefully nothing too dangerous, she wasn't near enough to see. A little afraid, Dora looks back toward the growing chaos as the animals quickly spread.

With a satisfying clink, the door to the niffler cage swung open as tens of the rambunctious beasties flooded out across the ball. Spinning on one heel to make a daring dash to the next enclosure, Aida’s eye saw – was it a fox? No, a redheaded boy had spotted the wix. Thinking his hair was a very pretty color and grinning back with a wide, deliriously happy expression, Aida waved.

“You can be free, too,” the white swan offered him, then flew off to the sacred mission’s next part as to minimize the chances of being caught. High above, Aida's desert tawny owl, Scheherazade, kept watch of the scene with exceptionally quiet wingbeats.

What was another good way to keep peoples’ hands tied while Aida went from enclosure to enclosure, maximizing the liberation of the fantastic beasts? Something very evasive should keep them occupied... whispered a voice in Aida’s head. With a glance towards the crups, it seemed some kind of awesome jabberwocky boy was already there. Was he... helping? Aida smiled in confusion, planning to look again after finding another target. There, at the first pen, was an enclosure of jarveys. Without delay the swan swooped in with nose wrinkling at disgust at the mesh and supporting picket that kept the rodents mustelids of unusual size trapped.

“Hi, jarveys! Please cause lots of trouble, okay? I’m trying to set everyone free.” Aida giggled at whatever the sentient fuzzies had to say and went to work undoing the latch on their cage by any means necessary.
