Beneath The Surface
Bella's footsteps sounded loud even to herself. Maybe she was putting a little more force into them than was strictly necessary, but who could blame her after the day she'd had. The anger had left her system at this stage and was slowly being replaced with exhaustion, as well as the realisation that she didn't have a jacket and the evening air was bringing a slight chill down by the lake. She had been walking a step or two in front of Sean but slowed to walk alongside him as they approached the edge of the tree line to the lake. Normally when people sat by the lake they would be on the grass area in the open, but Bella prefered it here. It was more closed off and she felt like she could relax more.
She realised as she sat down at the edge of the water that she was shivering lightly. She wrapped her arms around herself, her knees up at her chest and rubbed the sides of her arms. After a glance around the water, being near the water was always very calming for Bella, she looked up to Sean and hoped that he would sit down too; she would feel a bit awkward if he was going to stand the whole time.
"Sorry about what happened back there. You were trying to say something before we were a bit interrupted," Bella gave an almost sour chuckle at the end of her sentence with a small sigh, rubbing her arms again.
