Yeah uh… I’m fine. I think Cyprus was getting pretty worried for you though. And was at her limit with me um…,” Wren smiled which helped Kierce feel better, knowing that nothing serious had happened. It was obvious that Cyprus had had enough, even before Wren said something. Kierce nods and sets down his books, then gently took Cyprus from Wren. Really hope you didn't scare him half to death. Knowing you, that's exactly what you did. on that note might as well ask the poor bloke "I'm sorry about her, I hope she wasn't much trouble..." my trailed off at the end not really understanding what I was trying to say.
You couldn't be more awkward if you tried.Cyprus turned around on his palm letting Kierce know she was happy to see him, to which he smiled. I let Cyprus back onto his head, with the hope that she would fall asleep again. I pick up my books again "So what happened while I was gone, did Cyprus try to murder someone?". The question was a mix between a joke and a question, although in normal Kierce fashion it sounded serious. Hope he doesn't take it too seriously, I also hope that someone didn't kill anyone while I was away Cyprus seemed happy now every so often shifting her position on my head.
Kierce went to the side of Wren, still keeping his distance from him. I try my best to keep a smile on my face because, if you didn't know even having a fake smile has been proven to make you happier. I pushed up my glasses, waiting for Wren to find the way back, because I sure don't know it. "So what's your favorite book genre, if you don't mind me asking. Also if you don't mind me asking what's your house?" I say trying to break the the silence that makes me ever so anxious.

Wren carefully kept his hands steady as Kierce took the agitated spider from his hands and could almost instantly see Cyprus relax. He listened to Kierce as he apologized for her and he just shook his head. “No worries, it’s not your fault or hers. She was just trying to look for you." He watched as Kierce set Cyprus back on the top of his head and smiled slightly, his attention soon returning to the boy who had asked another question.
“Hmm, oh no she didn’t try to murder anyone. She did make a mad dash for it off the table but, as I said, I think she was just nervous since she couldn’t find you. I would have felt bad had she gotten lost or stepped on. I was honestly surprised she even let me pick her up, of course, she definitely was reluctant about it.” As he said this, he turned around towards the direction he had just come from and made a quick mental note of where they were just in case his sense of direction was as good as he thought.
He began walking in the direction he believed to be correct and saw Kierce start to follow, soon walking a decent distance from his side. Some time passed as he took a turn here and there and it was relatively silent, at least until Kierce spoke up again, perhaps to cut through the awkward air that once again surrounded the two or three if one included Cyprus. He thought for a second about what his favorite book genre was, he wasn’t very picky when it came to books to be fair.
“Well… I’ll read pretty much anything to be fair but if I had to choose. I would probably go with fantasy, I’ve always enjoyed fantasy books. Although I also do enjoy a good mystery novel every now and then, I’m not very picky though. And I'm in Ravenclaw for my house, how about you? If you don’t mind me asking of course.”

Wren said no one was at fault for what happened and, it helped Kierce out a little. He's probably just saying that you know.. People always say I need to "trust people" but what often gets people caught in something dangerous? Trust. Wren smiled which was nice, means he's confident enough in what he's doing right? “Hmm, oh no she didn’t try to murder anyone. She did make a mad dash for it off the table but, as I said, I think she was just nervous since she couldn’t find you. I would have felt bad had she gotten lost or stepped on. I was honestly surprised she even let me pick her up, of course, she definitely was reluctant about it.” Kierce smiled knowing that Cyprus always had a fondness for getting into something or doing something while Kierce wasn't around, it caused problems but it was just how she was.
" Yeah Cyprus is like that, I'm happy she didn't try to bite you though or anything. Thanks for picking her up so she wouldn't be squished as well, she's basically my only friend here.". I may have accidentally said that last part, You sound like three things, one; lonely, two; childish, three; insane..I continued to walk still a little worried that Wren didn't know where he was going, I mean I got lost so easily among the books, Well you're didn't think to look at your surroundings or pay attention to anything really. I shuffle around the books I had making sure to keep them balanced as I walked.
“Well… I’ll read pretty much anything to be fair but if I had to choose. I would probably go with fantasy, I’ve always enjoyed fantasy books. "Yeah I'm a scientific lad but fantasy is up there with science, horror, and mystery, the only thing I really don't like are love stories, they just feel weird to me you know, mate? But I like almost all books even the ones other blokes find boring, like classic ones. Also I'm a Slytherin...". Honestly Kierce hoped Wren hadn't heard that last part, a lot people dislike Slytherins because of their past, attitudes, and pranks, but Kierce wasn't really like other Slytherins for one he was one of the few muggle-born Slytherins he had seen or heard of, two, he had no care for pranks or anything rude really, three, he had always been a quiet and shy kid not very outspoken and making no effort to talk or cause trouble with anyone. he slowed a little looking at the bookshelves and became lost in his thoughts.

The two continued to walk and he heard Kierce thank him for helping Cyprus. He nodded to let him know he was paying attention and continued to walk, looking around to make sure he was heading in the right direction. He noted that the boy also said that Cyprus was basically his only friend, which made Wren feel kinda bad. He certainly understood though, Wren had never really had any friends either. He had gotten pretty use to being by himself which he didn’t really mind, he had plenty of books to keep him company. The more he thought bought it though, the sadder it started to sound so he decided to turn his attention back to making sure he was going the right way.
He took a turn here and there after answering Kierce’s question about books and his house and listened intently to what he had to say. Well, as intently as he could while trying to remember the path back to the table. It wasn’t often he got to talk about books with people so it was rather nice. He certainly also understood the disinterest of love stories, growing up he had found a few love and romance stories that belonged to his mother but he had never been a big fan. Most of them just didn’t make sense and were more annoying than interesting. Almost completely lost in his thoughts, he almost didn’t hear the last thing the tall blonde said but luckily was able to pick up that he said he was in Slytherin.
Wren interpreted this as perhaps Kierce wasn’t particularly thrilled to be in Slytherin which he supposed he could understand. From the things he had heard and read, the house didn’t exactly have the best reputation. That could definitely dishearten many but there really wasn’t anything inherently bad about the house or the students. Things just often didn’t work out for many, perhaps that was due to the bad reputation but who knew. “I definitely understand the dislike of love stories, I’ve never really been the biggest fan either. They just never really made sense to me. It’s cool that you also like mystery and fantasy novels though. Horror novels are pretty fun too, in a way,” He slightly regretted saying that last part, it made him sound kinda crazy. Horror usually involved murder and death which inherently wasn’t fun, he just didn’t really have another word to describe them. He quickly decided to move on with the conversation.
“It’s cool that you’re in Slytherin, I don’t think I’ve really had a chance to talk with someone from that house. To be fair, I haven’t really talked to anyone but oh well. Lots of good traits are associated with the house, despite the reputation it has. I think it’s rather unfair that people are so harsh to people in the house. I mean there are definitely good and bad people from every house so it doesn’t really seem fair to single out one house in particular you know?” Perhaps Wren had gone on for a bit too long but that’s just what he did, and he truly did believe what he said. Despite how he came off when he said something he meant it. That may make him come off as somewhat blunt at times but that’s just how he had always been. He looked around for a second and was pretty sure at this point that they were pretty close to getting back to the table, just had to keep walking for a little more time.

I walked along as I realized that I may have sounded like I disliked being in Slytherin, I don't hate being a Slytherin but some peoples reactions cause me to not like starting a conversation with it. Some people seem to think all Slytherins are bad but even I know that's not true Well you're in Slytherin of course you know that. Kierce thought about it, so far all the members from his house weren't mean or rude just loud and ambitious. Or maybe he just thought they were loud since he was so used to the quiet of his home.
“I definitely understand the dislike of love stories, I’ve never really been the biggest fan either. They just never really made sense to me. It’s cool that you also like mystery and fantasy novels though. Horror novels are pretty fun too, in a way,” Wren said once again snapping Kierce out of his trance-like state. I gave a half smile "That's interesting, never heard someone describe horror that way. It's fine though, I like trying to figure out what's going to happen before it happens, you know like who dies first, that ones usually easy, you know the clingy couple always goes first. But on the topic of love, I think books portray love the wrong way and that's terrible because all the books follow the Hollywood idea of love, which is very messed up especially when the story is directed to younger audiences". Kierce Realized he was ranting now and stopped with that last sentence, feeling uncomfortable talking more than he had too. He focused on the rhythm of his footsteps as he walked behind Wren, every so often pushing his glasses or examining the book covers.
Wren broke the silence again “It’s cool that you’re in Slytherin, I don’t think I’ve really had a chance to talk with someone from that house. To be fair, I haven’t really talked to anyone but oh well. Lots of good traits are associated with the house, despite the reputation it has. I think it’s rather unfair that people are so harsh to people in the house. I mean there are definitely good and bad people from every house so it doesn’t really seem fair to single out one house in particular you know?” I nod, thankful that he didn't judge me because of my house. "Slytherins aren't bad really, sure they like pranks and are louder than I'm used to, but they seem nice, even though I've barely even spoken to them. I think it's just the past of the house, I mean apparently there were a bunch of evil lads that were in Slytherin. I also agree with you there are bad people in every house I think some just ignore that because of what they've been taught. It's really evil how some things that aren't true could cause people to have hatred for someone different from them." I say trying to recall anything I may have heard or read about Slytherin, and also how society views different people based on what they've heard about them. I came to the conclusion that society is messed up. "So what did you do for fun before hogwarts, other than gardening and reading?" Kierce said trying to get the conversation away from him and learn about the boy.

Wren continued walking with Kierce behind him, very sure that they were getting closer to their destination. Or at least, he was pretty sure they were getting closer. As he listened to Kierce on book genres and felt his face go red, perhaps from embarrassment, as the boy describe the way he described horror novels as “interesting” He nodded though as the blonde continued talking, agreeing with what he said. He had never thought too much about why he didn’t like love stories, he had always just gone with that he didn’t like them and that was the end of it. Perhaps it was because of what Kierce said, all he knew was that It was definitely hearing someone else's opinion on the topic. Of course, this had been possibly one of the longest conversations ever with someone that was actually his age so perhaps that was why.
He took another turn and looked at the titles of the books on the shelves, he knew for sure that they were definitely going the right way because he knew he has seen those books when he went looking for Kierce. The tall blonde eventually piped up again and answered back about his house and everything else. Wren nodded once again, agreeing with the boy. People had a tendency to judge others far too quickly and it was very harmful. He certainly had had his fair share of judgement cast upon himself, and he definitely knew it wasn’t exactly fun. “I’ve found that it’s very hard for people to unlearn what they know and take a step back from information or ideas that have been drilled into their heads. Of course, it’s not impossible but is still very difficult, it isn’t an excuse but as long as people try at least to be more accepting then I think things can get better, maybe that’s too optimistic though…"
Wren trailed off as he finished his sentence, he had always believed that no one was truly bad. Of course, that view hadn’t usually gone in his favor and was usually seen as naive and far too optimistic. Alas, that was his belief and he intended to continue trying to see the good in people. Kierce very quickly moved on to the next topic, the topic being on what he did for fun before he got here. It took him a minute to think about what he had to say but eventually got a decent idea. “Well, reading and gardening are kinda the main things I do. I guess I enjoy drawing a little too though and I play music occasionally. I mean… not that I’m very good at either but I enjoyed it I guess. I suppose I enjoy cooking and baking too, usually to help my dad out but I like to experiment occasionally when I'm bored. Haven’t managed to catch anything on fire luckily, which is… surprising given my luck. Anyways though, how about you?”
Wren had always enjoyed doing anything that involved stretching his creative muscles. Plus, those activities usually required little to no social interaction which was convenient, given he had no social life back home.

I'm pretty sure that Cyrus was asleep, well as asleep as tarantulas can be. “I’ve found that it’s very hard for people to unlearn what they know and take a step back from information or ideas that have been drilled into their heads. Some people can't change, and some can but refuse to, and there are those who change for the worse. People can change but in Kierce's life experience that doesn't happen often, but it could happen.
I hear Wren respond to my question “Well, reading and gardening are kinda the main things I do. I guess I enjoy drawing a little too though and I play music occasionally. I mean… not that I’m very good at either but I enjoyed it I guess. I suppose I enjoy cooking and baking too, usually to help my dad out but I like to experiment occasionally when I'm bored. Anyways though, how about you?” Kierce smiled, wishing the conversation hadn't turned back to him, but still interested in the conversation. "All those things sound pretty nice. I can't play music but I like making diagrams of things so I guess that counts as drawing, I like observing and studying things like animals, my mother taught me to cook and bake she's a baker so if you ever need a birthday cake you can ask, and I'm often in my room reading, listening to music, or trying out science experiments. Unlike you though I can't garden for the life of me, I think I may have even killed a cactus once, Oh yeah and I like movies. " He recalled and there was the memory of his mother buying a small cactus for decoration. She put Kierce who was around nine or ten in charge of taking care of the thing, to which he did, he put it in the sunniest area of the house and watered it once a day yet by the end of the month the thing had died.
Kierce was opening up a little, he felt like he and Wren had a lot in common, well not gardening, or being able to play music but they agreed on a lot of things, like books. I continue walking along.

The two continued to walk for a while, occasionally stopping as Wren looked around his surroundings to make sure that he was going the right way. He was positive that they were really close at this point and would hate to get lost now when they were so close. After he had talked about his own interests, Kierce eventually answered back with what he enjoyed doing. He listened and nodded along, somewhat surprised at the few things they had in common. It did concern him that the boy had somehow managed to kill a cactus though, he wasn’t entirely sure how he managed to pull that off. Of course, he definitely knew most people didn’t quite have a green thumb as he did, his father being one of those people who had been quickly banned from entering the garden back home.
He made sure to take mental notes of the things Kierce had mentioned he had enjoyed doing. He doubted the boy would want to hang out again but Wren wanted to be prepared just in case. In his experience, usually, if people hung out with him once they usually wouldn’t ever again. Then again, none of those conversations had ever gone quite as well as this one had so who knows what could happen. “Well those sound fun, and if it makes you feel better, I definitely know someone else who would absolutely be able to kill a cactus if he had one. Animals are always interesting to observe, I mostly only ever see birds but they’re pretty so that’s fine by me,” At this point, Wren was pretty much-saying anything that came to his mind in order to continue the conversation as he navigated through the library. “My dad actually also works at a bakery, I mean it’s really small and he’s the only person who works there besides the lady who runs it but it’s nice. He usually cooks and bakes at the house but I usually try and at least help, he’s definitely a lot better at it though.”
His dad had never minded doing all the cooking in the house but it made Wren feel bad that he had to do that on top of work so most of the time Wren usually tried to do it so he wouldn’t have to. His cooking wasn’t great but he hadn’t managed to kill anyone yet with it so he considered that a win. As he continued thinking, he walked until they came to an opening in the shelves. It appeared that his memory wasn’t too shabby after all, or at least he had managed to find the way back to the table.

I continue to look at all the books around me still wondering how they even got this many books in here in the first place, there seemed to be an infinite number of them in the library which was nearly impossible, but magic school I guess. The library itself seemed never ending as well. If you put this into retrospect this is a castle, a magic castle at that. So, with that logic everything should seem magical and gargantuan. Right?
Wren once again replied to Kierce's statement “Well those sound fun, and if it makes you feel better, I definitely know someone else who would absolutely be able to kill a cactus if he had one. Animals are always interesting to observe, I mostly only ever see birds but they’re pretty so that’s fine by me,” I chuckle at the fact that the boy now knew not one, but two people who could kill a cactus. " I'm sorry you now have to know two terrible gardeners, and by the way lad yes it makes me feel better." I think about how I should respond to the other sentence. "Birds are interesting, they are pretty and I love the vibrant colors they often have. It's also interesting to study what they do, like how cuckoo birds often lay their eggs in other birds nests for other birds to raise." I say, repeating things I've learned through research. “My dad actually also works at a bakery, I mean it’s really small and he’s the only person who works there besides the lady who runs it but it’s nice. He usually cooks and bakes at the house but I usually try and at least help, he’s definitely a lot better at it though.” I nod, happy that I've actually made it this long into the conversation without messing it up. Pretty sure you messed up the conversation somewhere mate.
They finally found the table. And by "they" I mean it was all Wren. "Thanks so much again lad, without you, I'd probably die from dehydration, or be found by the librarian late at night, and I think that would be a fate worse than death. Also Cyprus probably thanks you for helping find me." I say with a smile, I pause and sit down at the table, then open one of the three books I brought with me. Probably a few minutes past before I take time into consideration, I look to the window and see that it's pitch black. Kierce got up "I think it's nearly time for dinner, so I'm gonna leave. But it was nice meeting you Wren, other than me getting lost and all, wanna hang out some other time? Maybe next week?" I say apprehensively. I paused to hear his response, then walked out of the library thankfully not getting lost along the way.

Wren nodded to what Kierce said, and was quite happy with himself after remembering his way back to the table. He would have felt really bad had he gotten them even more lost than before. He went to stack his books in a nice pile and he heard the tall blonde thank him and watched him sit down at the table. “I’m sure you probably would have found your way back eventually, at the very least you wouldn’t have died of dehydration but your welcome, you too Cyprus.” He smiled slightly, nodding slightly in Cyprus’s direction as he sat down at the table himself.
He watched the boy across from him open a book and so he did the same, the two once again back to where they had been before getting lost in the maze of books. He quickly got lost in the book but was then quickly brought back to reality as Kierce brought up the time and asked if he would like to hang out again. Wren hadn’t realized the time but it was getting late, he supposed that they had been in the library longer than he had thought. “Right and it was nice meeting you too, and um… that would work for me if you want to hang out again, just don’t get lost.” He teased slightly with his last words and smiled, it wasn’t often someone really wanted to hang out with him again. As he said this, Kierce seemed to register this and Wren watched as the boy got up and exited the library.
Wren then went to gather his books and put them back in their respective places, deciding it was time to get going himself. The day hadn’t gone quite as he had expected but that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, perhaps things were beginning to look up for him in the strange and new place. With a slight smile on his face and his head now lost in thoughts, he exited the library interested to see what the future would hold.
