A Stroll Through the Grounds
Date: November 17th, 2022
Isadora Ramona Everridge - Word count: 205 - Color: #631679It's a nice day. Not too sunny, not too cloudy, not too warm or cold. Maybe a bit chilly for some people, but Dora likes the breeze. She'd been starting to feel a little cooped up in the castle, and thought she'd take a stroll along the grounds' pathways.
There are colorful leaves everywhere, rustling as the wind picks them up and drops them softly back onto the ground. Even the dark forest to the east is painted with a few reds and oranges. The forest isn't as scary in the daytime as it is at night, when all sorts of creatures could be lurking in the darkness. Even so, Dora keeps a fair distance from it, continuing on her way.
If she's being honest with herself, she needs more than a bit of fresh air. She's been getting so tired lately, staying up studying, getting up early to prepare for classes, working herself to the bone to get her grades up. Her uncle would always joke that he was working himself to death, and then who would be his mortician? The memory tugs a small smile from her lips. It'll be nice to see him when she gets home for the holidays, at least.

A Stroll Through the Grounds
Cynthia had not excepted to cross paths with a girl. She needed some fresh air. That was all to it. Her head was in a book, which made it quite dangerous. Sometimes she’ll look up a bit to admire the view and see where she was going, but truth be told, she was just, well, strolling around. Cynthia thought about the Christmas hols, which made her smile. It was still some time away, but she simply adored Christmas.
She was walking along when she suddenly bumped into a girl. She was a Hufflepuff, but Cynthia thought she looked a bit goth. She had long black hair and striking green eyes. And she didn’t seem happy. In fact, Cynthia thought this girl probably never smiled… like ever at all. The book went flying from Cynthia’s hand and the girl suddenly looked a bit unsteady, as if she was going to fall.
Cynthia steadied herself and pulled the girl upright. She composed herself and tried to look guilty. She stammered, ‘Oh… um… sorry…um…I…I…wasn’t…looking where…um… where I was going…. Are you alright?…. I’m…um…I’m very sorry about what…um…about what happened.’ She looked like is stammering mess. That was the pointed. While she was (probably) sincerely sorry, she just wanted the girl to leave her be.

Enjoying the peace and quiet, Dora doesn't pay much attention as the path winds around a large tree, rather looking away at the hazy mountains in the distance. This second of distraction is all she needs to run into another girl, coming from the opposite direction. They collide, Dora breathing in sharply as she loses balance and begins to fall backward. The other girl's hand shoots out and grabs hers, steadying Dora. She closes her eyes for a moment and sighs in relief, then opens them back up to the awkward situation she finds herself in.
Looking the other girl up and down, Dora notices a few things in succession. She's a Ravenclaw, a House esteemed for their intelligence, and she's dropped a book. Dora feels immediately intimidated, but that's dampened a bit by the girl's sudden stammering.
"Oh… um… sorry…um…I…I…wasn’t…looking where…um… where I was going…. Are you alright?…. I’m…um…I’m very sorry about what…um…about what happened."
"I am sorry as well." Dora replies, quiet and nervous. "I was not paying enough attention." She crouches down and retrieves the book, looking at it curiously. It's a thick tome, with no markings on the front to indicate a title. Many old books are like this, and if not for the situation, Dora would be tempted to look inside. Instead, she stiffly hands it back and apologizes again. "Please excuse my clumsiness." She stands still and casts her eyes on the ground, waiting for some indicator from the other for her to leave.

Sorry the reply took so long! I didn't know you had posted haha, usually people tag me. I read your ency stuff and see that you're thinking of taking a hiatus. If you want to end the interaction here, no worries! I'm also good with continuing.

‘Of course.’ Cynthia straightened up. ‘It’s not a problem…’ What was her name? Of course, she knew a lot of well-known people around the school’s names, but this girl drew a blank… ‘I’m fine. People are so clumsy these days. I heard that they even started a clumsy club, run by that Gryffindor boy…what’s his name now? Kim…right…Sato.’ Cynthia hoped that the girl would just say her name. Like ‘Hi, I’m xxx, good to know you.’ Something like that. That just made life easier.
Right! She almost forgot, this girl was probably a first year, just like her. Cynthia had learnt to be observant. ‘Ah, well, I suppose…introductions… if you want them. I’m Cynthia Beaufort, Ravenclaw, as you have seen. And you are…Miss Everridge. Pretty name.’
Cynthia was in a bit of a hurry though. She had some other stuff to do. ‘Perhaps we will see each other around the school? It was good meeting you, but, I must say, I have some things to do and therefore I must depart.’ Cynthia hurriedly picked up her book.
See now, she wasn’t trying to be rude…she just had too much work. Homework and extracurricular clubs work. Perhaps Isadora thought that she’d make a friend by bumping into one, but while they were NOT enemies, friends or even to-be friends was probably stretching it.
