Magic School? Magic School.
➵➵Gavin Faulkner was... an interesting kid, to put it lightly. He was known throughout his old school for being a bit harsh. His reputation preceded him, certainly. Everyone seemed to know about his history of snarky remarks. At Hogwarts, though? At Hogwarts, no one knew him. It was a blank slate.
Boy, he was going to have fun with it.
That wasn't what was important at the moment, though. Right now, what was important was that for once, Nathaniel Faulkner had time to spare to see his son off for his first day. "You have everything you need, right? You didn't leave anything at home like last time?"
Gavin was glad he was here, but did he really need to be so nagging? With a shake of his head, he assured his father that there was no need to worry. "I've got everything I need, da. Besides, if I forget something, you can always send me an owl, you know?" His impish grin meant to comfort the man, but it only seemed to make Nathaniel wearier.
"Are you sure you remembered everything? I swear, Gav, if I hear that you forgot your wand or something essential like that-"
He was cut off by his son poking him in the nose with the wand in question. "I remembered! I remembered! Geez, you're such a worrywart," the boy remarked through his giggles, pointedly ignoring the glare his father sent him. "Anyways, I've got to get on the train now! See you over the holidays?" he questioned, one foot already in the train car.
The smile that Nathaniel gave him was warm, although still tinged with worry. "See you over the holidays." Then, as Gavin was stepping further into the car, he added, "Try not to get expelled!"
The grin he got in return was disconcerting, but hopefully, he could trust his son enough to follow that simple advice...
Meanwhile, on the train, Gavin began to wander aimlessly up the aisle. He didn't want to sit near anyone, that's for sure. He did have a life outside of causing chaos and he wanted to get some reading done. He'd read the books a hundred times over from when he'd taken them from his father, but that wasn't going to stop him from doing it again. Finally finding an empty compartment was a relief for sure. Nestling into the corner with the large shirt he wore dwarfing his frame, he pulled out one of the coursebooks from the bag at random. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. A good book. One of his favourites, that was for sure. He liked magical creatures. Probably had something to do with all the time he spent outside. He was going to miss getting to go camping with his mother. There was no use dwelling on the past, though. He had some reading to do.
Opening to the first page, he spread out on the bench, crossing his legs up on the rest of the side he was on. He could care less if his ratty converse got dirt on the material, honestly. He picked a creature from the table of contents, turned to the right place, and started reading...

Magic School? Magic School.
Melissa was annoyed, to say, at the very least.
Despite her constant reminding her parents to clear out their schedules to see their only daughter off for her first day of school, they had failed to make time for her again. Of course, as high-ranking officials in the Ministry for Magic, sometimes that couldn’t be helped, but Melissa hated being neglected.
And ditching Melissa on her first day of school didn’t make her exactly hopeful for a better relationship with her parents.
Sighing inwardly, she brushed a lock of her honey blonde hair behind her ear. But she would show them. She would prove that she deserved their love. They would see.
Melissa headed down the corridors of the Hogwarts Express. It was quite a magnificent train, if she did say so herself. Despite reading all about it beforehand, even she was surprised at the sheer impressive of the locomotive.
As she passed compartment after compartment, she realized that she really should have set off earlier: all of them were full. Still, it wasn’t exactly her fault that her trunk had chosen right before setting off to break down over being crammed so thoroughly with books.
Finally, just when Melissa was wondering if she was going to have to sit on her trunk at the back of the train, she came across a compartment, seemingly deserted. Relieved, she pushed open the sliding doors, only to find herself looking at a blonde-locked boy, his feet propped on the seat above him, reading a book.
Oh, dear.@Gavin Faulkner

➵The sound of the compartment door opening made Gavin look up from his book much too quickly. Disappointing. He'd hoped he'd be able to read more before being disturbed.
The culprit, he noticed, looked to be his age. She was tall, blonde, and looking very awkward in the doorway. From the way her eyes had locked onto him, he figured she had no clue he was there. He raised a questioning eyebrow.
"You look like you've seen a ghost," he said dryly. Then, motioning to the other seat, he added, "You can take a seat if you want. I don't bite, promise." She didn't need to know about the time he bit the school nurse. He'd only done that because he'd panicked. Besides, she had healed up just fine. Not even a scar. He couldn't do that much damage.
With that said, he went back to reading, pencilling small sketches of the creatures into the margins. With luck, the girl would leave him alone. Then, maybe, he could read about more. Ignoring the fact that he'd read the book 100 times since he'd first gotten his hands on it. It was interesting every time, especially as he grew older and started understanding and contextualizing more of the information held within the pages.➵@Melissa Hendrix

Melissa had never liked social interactions. Maybe that was due to her parents pushing her in front of their friends and bragging about how smart she was, but she had never been much of a people-person. In fact, she'd never even had one friend- she didn't mind, either.
So the sight of a boy in what she had previously thought was an empty compartment was not welcoming.
The boy told her dryly that she looked terrible, and that he didn't bite. Well, now that he mentioned him biting, it was all she was going to be thinking about. Without replying to his comment on how she looked like a ghost, she backed into the corridor, slamming the sliding door shut. No way was she spending eight hours in close capacity with some stranger.
She went down the train, looking in the compartments, hoping against hope that there was an empty one. There wasn't. In fact, the closest to empty was the compartment with the boy whom she had slammed the door in the face of.
Wondering if some god of bad luck had decided to pay special attention to her, Melissa marched into the compartment with the blonde boy, determinedly not looking at him, and sat down across from him, and opened her trunk, rummaging through it, trying to look as busy as possible.@Gavin Faulkner

➵When the girl slammed the door shut, Gavin only raised an eyebrow before shrugging, going back to reading. It wasn't particularly important that he was alone or with someone else.
He flipped to another random page, settling against the wall furthest from the door. Quintapeds were fascinating creatures. They sounded like one of his mother's urban legends, the ones she would tell at the campfire, but considerably less scary only because he knew of their existence. There was nothing particularly intimidating about that. Sure, they feasted for human flesh, but they were only really found on one island.
He made it maybe 10 minutes before the door slid open again, the girl walking back in and plopping down on the other side, frantically searching through her trunk. Huh, she really is awkward, he thought. Well, he couldn't blame her. New school and all. It was better than having to start again in the middle of the year at least, when everyone's already developed their friend groups. He would just leave her to her awkwardness and let her decide whether she wanted to talk or not.
He flipped the page again. Thunderbirds. They were cool. Being able to create storms? If he wasn't afraid of them, he probably would have thought that was an epic power.
It was a shame there wasn't a picture of the creature in the book, but he was content to draw based off of the description given. Eagle-like, three pairs of wings. He was so distracted by the drawing that he almost forgot there was another person in the car with him.➵@Melissa Hendrix

Magic School? Magic School.
Cal was excited, very excited
After wishing his family farewell and boarding the train, his minor melancholy of leaving his loved ones faded, replaced by the roar of students conversing with one another. He was one of the last to board the train, so looking for a seat was going to be a dismal experience. He was glad he had spent the last few moments with his family like he did but was slightly annoyed at the prospect of missing out on the ride to Hogwarts.
He walked the length of the corridor towards the back of the train, and when the train broke into motion, he looked back out the window of the carriage. The people at the station grew smaller and smaller, until they were no more. Realizing he had spaced out for a moment, Cal gathered his trunk and belongings and set for any open compartments.
After what seemed like forever, Cal managed to come across a compartment that had some room. He pulled open the door and peered inside. On one side of the compartment sat a curly haired fellow, who looked as though he had been through the brambles, as his skin was scratched all over... On the other side of the compartment was a tall blonde girl with piercingly blue eyes. She was rummaging for something in her bag, but Cal couldn't figure what it was she was searching for.
"I hope you don't mind," Cal said, "I was one of the last on the train and... well... Thanks."
Cal sat beside the curly haired boy, who he had just realized was looking through his copy of Fantastic Beasts.
"I gave mine a look through on my way to the station, wild things those are!... Oh! I havent introduced myself." He looked to both his fellow students in greeting. "Im Calvirious, but call me Cal."

➵When the new boy entered the compartment, Gavin slid his legs inward, making himself seem smaller than he was. While it may have looked like a fear response to some, he had just figured that it would be easier for the boy to sit on his side. The whole time, the blonde boy was observing him. The excitement that seemed to flow through the brunette's entire being was a huge contrast to the other two, that was for sure.
"Gavin," he told the boy simply. He would have left it at just that, but then he registered that Cal had said something else. "... Yeah, some of them are pretty interesting. I've read through it a ton of times. Used to steal my da's copy," he said.
Realizing that he'd been pressing his pencil against the page just a bit too hard, Gavin flipped the pencil over and frantically began erasing at the deep, dark dot he'd made in the page. Despite his efforts, though, he knew that erasing was futile. He was an artist. It was far from the first time it had happened.
He removed the eraser from the page, staring disappointed at the remaining dot and the mess he'd accidentally made of the sketch. Dang it, he thought dejectedly. He really had to go and make a mess of one of his course books.➵@Melissa Hendrix @Calvirious Lauk

Cal situated himself in his seat next to Gavin. "Oh I see. Sounds like you are pretty well prepared for lessons then." Cal wondered what Gavin's father did for a living. Even though Cal did come from a family of full wizards, he had not had many friends from the world of magic. Most of the people he knew were muggles, with the exception of family and some family friends, so he had no real idea what kind of work people did outside of normal professions. His mother and father were even vague about what they did, and all he knew is that his mother was a teacher and his father worked for a magical goods transport company.
Turning his attention to the train window, Cal lost himself in thought for a moment before collecting himself.
"I think Ill find the trolly for some snacks, would you like anything?"
Cal asked Gavin.
Cal was a massive fan of pumpkin pastries and chocolate frogs. He also loved to collect Bertie Botts's Every Flavor Beans, and had just started seriously cataloging his finds.
He checked his pockets for his remaining coin. He had a bit after buying his school supplies, and could get a few sweets to share. Maybe he would be able to find a few new flavors of bean, or a new wizard card from a chocolate frog...

➵Gavin faintly chuckled at the response Cal gave. "I guess you could say that," he agreed. Not everything was imprinted in his brain yet of course, despite all his time reading, but he knew his way around the coursework by now. That was better than many, he was sure.
Now that he had been distracted, Gavin folded up the book in his hands and swiftly put it back in his trunk, swapping it out for a beaten-up sketchbook. It looked like it had been through it, with smudges of pencil and paint and torn spines, and that was just what you could see from the cover. He opened it up, flipping to the last concept he had been sketching. A commission, actually... He was not going to be able to get it in on time, was he? He was going to Hogwarts. Still, he figured he should still try.
He was wielding his pencil, fully prepared to start drawing when Cal spoke again.
Gavin was more than a little surprised. "Really? Uhm... I'll give you the money to buy a chocolate frog for me," he responded, moving to get the money out of his bag. The question had definitely taken him off guard, but he wasn't going to just let him pay for something. It just rubbed him the wrong way.➵@Calvirious Lauk @Melissa Hendrix

Cal made his way and slid open the compartment door
"Nah, dont worry about it, they are just 2 sickles anyway. My treat"
Cal could see the uncomfortable look he was getting from Gavin.
"Unless you insist... I mean... Ill get it and we'll sort it later. No biggie."
And with that Cal made his way out of the door and made for the trolly. As he walked through the vacant hallways of the train, he looked out again at the rolling hills of the countryside. He continued along the walkway to the sound of students talking among themselves, muffled by the closed doorways.
Arriving at the trolly, he asked the attendant for a few chocolate frogs. exchanging a few sickles Cal grabbed the snacks and made his way back to his compartment. He decided to grab the girl one if she wanted, because he hadn't talked to her quite yet, and she might have been wanting something as well.
Sliding open the door, and sitting back down, Cal handed a chocolate frog to Gavin.
Opening one for himself Cal popped open the package, but before he could react, the frog leaped from the box and onto the wall beside him.
Cal quickly recovered the frog, fumbling around before finally throwing it in his mouth. It squirmed for a second and then was gone in an instant when Cal swallowed it whole.
"Oh! I got Morgan le Fey! She Merlin's nemesis, wasn't she? and King Aurther's half-sister... Which one did you get?"
