Going through the motions

It was a great day to be alive. It was a great day for anything, actually, and it was a great day to be in the ballroom. I didn't know why I was in the ballroom, maybe I was bored, maybe fate drew me here, or maybe it was one of my favorite places to be in the castle, but whatever it was, I was here. I loved the ballroom for not just its elegance and everything, but also because it was a place to dance. And that's what I wanted to do. I took a deep breath through my nose and heard the sound of waltz music filling my ears, the Sleeping Beauty waltz. I raised my hands in the air and started to do a lonely waltz, but it was like it wasn't lonely. Afterward, the music changed, and this time I heard ballet music, something like the Nutcracker. I wasn't good at ballet, but I spun around and walked on my toes, and jumped in the air. AKA dancing my heart out. Then the music changed again, and this time I heard flamenco music. A frenzied one-person tango would best describe what I did next. I was in the zone, in my own element until...it was all over. I sensed another presence in the room and everything came crashing down. I froze and slowly turned around to see the unexpected visitor, my face turning red with embarrassment. "Oh- dear- I-I didn't know that you were- I'm sorry," I stammered, quite unecessarily.

Going through the motions
Eli had just finished his classes, and now he wanted to explore more of the grounds of Hogwarts. Of course, Ramen wanted to come along with him. He was fine with it though. The tiny cat had already grown an attachment to Eli, and he was honored that this cat had chosen him. He walked down the winding halls, coming across the ballroom. With Ramen right at his feet, he opened the doors to the ballroom and paused, seeing another Hufflepuff girl dancing her heart out. She seemed so in tune with the music.
Eli watched in awe, smiling softly as he leaned against the doorway, watching the girl leap and spin. Ramen stayed by his feet, watching the girl with interest in his eyes. Eli started mentally counting along to the music, humming softly. He couldn’t take his eyes off the girl, seeing how seamlessly she would transition through songs.
Of course, this would soon end, as the girl stopped dancing and spun around, facing Eli. Her face immediately turning bright red from embarrassment. "Oh- dear- I-I didn't know that you were- I'm sorry," She stammered. Eli stood straight, smiling encouragingly. “No no, please don’t be sorry. I shouldn’t have done that. My apologies.” He said softly. “I’m Eli, Eli Jonson.” He said, trying to seem not so much like a creep just watching some random girl dance. Aw man- did he already mess up? He probably made her think he’s just a weirdo. He put out a hand, offering a handshake. “What’s your name lass? So that way I can give a formal apology.”

I froze when I noticed that somebody was watching me dance. I slowly turned around and turned red when I saw the person who had been watching me, embarrassed. It was a boy with long brown hair and different-colored eyes, with a cat by his side. He said that I shouldn't be sorry and he apologized. Then he introduced himself as Eli Jonson. He held his hand out to shake and asked me my name. I shook his hand firmly and said, "Oh, well, apology accepted, I guess. Oh, and I'm Aurora Griffith by the way, 1st year Hufflepuff. And no need to apologize! Is that your cat?" I indicated the cat beside him with reddish fur. I understood that it probably would have been pretty strange for Eli to see some random girl dancing in the ballroom. It would have been awfully strange for me, too, if I had stumbled upon somebody dancing in the ballroom like that. But I had been so in tune with the music that I had been oblivious to everything around me. My aunt was a professional dancer, so I had learned a lot about dancing from her, everything from the waltz to the tango to the chicken dance. Yep, I could do a really good chicken dance. Trying to get rid of the awkwardness of the situation, I asked Eli a question: "Er, do you like to dance?" That might have made things a little more awkward, though, but I didn't really know...

Eli smiled as the girl approached him, shaking his hand firmly. "Oh, well, apology accepted, I guess. Oh, and I'm Aurora Griffith by the way, 1st year Hufflepuff. And no need to apologize! Is that your cat?" She nods to Ramen. Eli nodded, “Eye, that’s Ramen. I know…silly name for a cat, but he responds to it.” He smiles, “I’m a first year as well. I’m sure I’ve seen you at the Hufflepuff table at the hating ceremony. Could be wrong though.” He picks up Ramen, petting him gently. The cat purred and started taking an interest in Eli’s many rings, batting his paw at Eli’s hand. Eli smiles, “And, it is very nice to meet you Aurora. Beautiful name by the way.” He said softly.
Ramen then took an interest in Eli’s dangling crystal earring, batting his paw at the tigers eye crystal. Eli chuckled softly in response, trying to only pay attention to the girl in front of him. She then asked him a question, “Do you like to dance?” Eli paused, thinking. “Hm…well I suppose so. My parents taught me how to dance, and I took a fancy in the art.” He smiles, “I see you’re a wonderful dancer yourself lass, Ramen here thinks so too.” He chuckles.
