Curse of the Bogies vs Julian Pritchard
ReducioPhase-Out Chance (9-10): [d20: 6] → no phase-out, chance increases to 30%
Julian was a bit of a rough spot. Battered and suffering a nasty head cold, he wasn't going to be the most useful on the offensive right now and the worst thing he could do was take more hits. So, he made it his whole goal not to. He could manage that, surely, even with the runny nose and bothersome headache and aching limbs from where Knockback Jinxes had hit.
And it was a very good thing that he did, because Kim was on a warpath. His Flipendo blazed forth not the brightest blue Bridget had ever seen--it was a little faint, actually, as was Nessie's--but up there with the fastest she'd seen a spell go, particularly at this age. It was a narrow miss, and there seemed no doubt that if Julian had been a tiny bit slower or more preoccupied, or if Kim didn't have to worry about Nessie's attack, then it would have hit.
And oddly, nothing came from Everly. She wasn't suffering under spells like Julian was, so there was no immediately clear reason that Bridget could discern, but it could be so many things. Attention issues, indecisiveness, random moral crisis. Still, it was a little concerning to pause in the middle of a sport that wasn't exactly the safest thing ever.

ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | Kim was glad he was on the dueling team. It gave him a chance to focus on something that would bring Gryffindor House more prestige if they won. It gave him more experience with using spells on others, which was always a good thing to learn how to do. And it also helped distract him from his current brooding and thoughts that lingered within the dark recesses of his soul. Kim's target had been Julian again this round and he'd been very focused on taking him out by any means possible. He'd used the Knockback Jinx again and had come quite close to hitting him. However, Julian had managed to avoid his spell somehow, maybe luck had been on his side for once. But it wouldn't happen again, that much he was sure. Why? Because Kim was determined to take both Puffs out by the end of the match. It only made sense. After all, he couldn't win if both were still conscious. They needed to die be knocked unconscious, so they wouldn't be a threat to him later. All that was in his mind right now was to win this match. Take both Puffs out and dominate the duel, showing Hufflepuff that Gryffindor would always come out on top. Kim was sure they could do it together, as Everly was an important part of his foolproof plan. He quickly avoided a familiar blue spell that came from Nessie at him. She'd chosen to use the same spell as him. Julian hadn't tried to cast any spells and he hadn't seen any spells go in his direction either. Same with Nessie. Could Everly's spell have missed her target too? Kim glanced over to check on his partner. "You alright?" He wanted to make sure Everly was fine. She couldn't have been suffering from anything because Kim was fairly certain no spells had hit her yet. Perhaps it was a mental thing or she'd been thinking about future actions to do? "Don't worry, we have lots of time. Focus, concentrate and let's go for the kill!" He told her with a faint smirk on his lips. Kim glanced over at their opponents and then back over at Everly again. "Let's do this." Kim murmured. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 11
Nessie's eyes widened at the idea that her teammate could end up on fire. Admittedly, at least if that happened she might be able to help. Putting out fires was one of the few duelling-approved pieces of magic that Nessie thought she'd be capable of casting.
Of course, the definite better alternative would be for Nessie to duel so fearsomely that nothing bad could happen to her partner. Which was definitely her goal all along but ... well she was certainly not achieving it.
In fact, yet another of her knockback jinxes missed and this time she let out a huff of disappointment. The only comfort was that at least Julian had escaped Gryffindor's fury for another round. "Nice," Nessie complimented him on his dodging ability, hoping to keep her team's spirits up. Nessie really wanted to think that optimism would help in duelling, but the results of her efforts so far weren't exactly convincing, considering that she hadn't landed a spell yet.

Everly had frozen again, standing unmoving while everyone else had at least gone and done something. “Yeah, I’m fine, thanks,” she muttered. She felt a little bitter at her lack of capability recently, especially considering the fact that this was Kim’s first official duel ever, and his partner was zoning out on him. Chastising herself, she regained some focus and tried to not let her mind slip.action: as strategized

There were times when you simply had to admit defeat. As much as Julian loathed the idea of holding back and leaving Nessie to fend for herself, he knew it would be worse for their team if he got hit again. So instead of raising his wand again, he narrowed his focus to the other team (easier said than done; his stuffy nose and watery eyes were proving distressingly distracting). When Kim finally uttered an incantation, he was ready to step out of the way. His aim was still good and Julian was still sluggish, so it was only by a narrow margin that he avoided getting hit again.
"That was too close," he said in response to Nessie's comment, eyebrows knitting together as he tried to come up with a strategy that would let him dodge more reliably, and hopefully let him cast again. His head felt light on his shoulders and nothing came to him, no matter how much he wished he could reassure her that he'd do better.

ReducioPhase-Out Chance (8-10): [d20: 8] → phase-out, Julian cannot take an action next round but CoB effects go away
Everly shook off her momentary daze and was back like she hadn't missed a beat. That Flipendo had threatening speed behind it, and Nessie was the unfortunate target. It was the first hit she'd taken this duel, and the blunt force of a Flipendo was hardly easing into it. Maybe the jolt was what she needed, though, to focus in enough for her casts to finally land.
Julian managed to avoid yet another Flipendo from Kim, which his body would surely be thanking him for, courtesy of his dodging efforts and Nessie's own Flipendo forcing the opposing player to speed all his actions up to escape that unforgiving bolt of blue. With all the misses, other than Everly really the only thing winning here was Julian's cold.
It had just been getting steadily worse, and after so much quick movement while he wasn't properly able to get air through clogged nostrils, Julian's head began to swim. The dizziness, and cold in general, would pass in a moment, but the trouble was that moment wasted on the duelling floor where spells waited for no one.

**Edit Note**
It was pointed out by Gryffindor that their actions specified Nessie as the target of Everly's spell, not Julian. This was fixed, and the rolls that resulted in a miss against Julian made for a hit on Nessie.

ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | Everly seemed to be alright. She'd reassured him of this after his question had been posed to her earlier and Kim took her words at face value. He was sure they could win against these two, as long as they remained focused and vigilant. Glancing back over at the two Badgers, Kim was reminded of Rabbit. The orange haired boy hadn't seen him around lately and wondered what he was doing and whether or not he was avoiding him. Not that he was looking for or thinking about him at all, of course not. Kim shook his head and refocused on the duel at hand, which needed all of his concentration. Winning it was the only thing that mattered right now. Julian and Nessie had been hurt and Everly and Kim hadn't. It was a very good start for them and would continue as long as things kept going as planned. Even if they didn't, as long as they were able to take out at least one of them and both of them remained... they would win. "Let's do this!" Kim said with a glint in his eye. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

Nessie's positivity didn't seem to be working. And while she'd tried hard to be more positive in the hopes that'd help her out, it hadn't really seemed to change her situation.
She was beginning to wonder if she just might be one of the worst duellists in the whole history of Hogwarts. She'd cast five spells so far, and missed all of them. Sure, she also hadn't been hit yet, but it didn't look to her like anybody had aimed at her either.
At least she hadn't hit herself yet? It could still be worse.
But still, Nessie felt utterly useless, with her partner taking all the attention from their opponents while she tried and missed over and over.
"I'll do better!" she resolved, even though she wasn't entirely sure how to make that happen. But what she did know was that Julian definitely deserved a better partner.

Having snapped out of her stupor, Everly was finally back in the game, ready and focused. Pritchard’s recent actions were seeming to follow a trend, so this time, she switched her attention to his partner—Nessie. A Flipendo flew towards the Hufflepuff, who was unable to dodge Everly’s spell. They were off to a good start, but she couldn’t get her hopes up too quickly. Anything could happen.action: as strategized

There wasn't a whole lot of spell variety in this duel, was there? Granted, Bridget was looking on this with the eyes of a senior, considerably more spells under her belt, but still, it had been purely Knockback Jinxes for a while now.
It certainly did something this time around, though. Nessie would hopefully feel gratified to finally land a hit; it seemed she was perfectly in the moment, and almost uncannily sure of how Kim would try to dodge. A well-placed spell, to say the least.
Everly repaid her with yet another hit, and Nessie was starting to not look too hot. Two hits with such a brutal spell tended to be a lot when you were newer to duelling. And Kim would go for the man down, which though perhaps not the most honorable thing, was perfectly fair on the duelling piste. It wasn't like Julian was incapable of dodging, anyway, but it certainly wasn't easy in his current sickly state. He couldn't even cast, Bridget didn't imagine he was feeling like moving anywhere very quickly. It would suck for that moment, made worse by the harsh impact of another spell, but then it would clear. The air flowed freely into his system and the fog in his head cleared; Julian was back in the game.
