Both teams seemed to be relying pretty much on the impeccable casting of both higher-level duelists Dealla and Dorion, who both chose different approaches to strategy.

The former deemed it necessary to attempt to blindfold both Hufflepuffs but overestimated her ability—instead of affecting both enemies, only one Obscuro was conjured. The latter used their inherent healing abilities to their advantage, magicking away most—if not all—of their team's current injuries. Dmitri couldn't help but note that this duelist succeeded in increasing their spell's magnitude, unlike the Ravenclaw's.

Interesting.

Beside them, Logan and Callie were quick in their reflexes to avoid any incoming attack, and though Callie had not had a spell come her way, Logan was unfortunate in that, in an instant, a conjured piece of cloth bound her eyes, effectively impairing her vision.

Things were heating up.

[Spectator Thread, Day 1: Morning]

At this point Logan was not even impressed that she was able to actively dodge the spells, only that she was not able to actively dodge the blindfold that suddenly blocked her vision. "Really," she called out as she threw her arms up in frustration, wand in hand. She was not able to see anything, casting a spell could be absolutely awful, so she waited to see if Dorian would tell her what to do as she was currently a sitting duck in the middle of the dueling stage.

With no verbal reaction from friend or foe, Dee pouted, then cursed audibly when her attempt to split her spell to target both Hufflepuffs failed. It was always a risk trying it several times in a row, it required a focus that was hard to maintain over long periods of time, but twice in a row, at the beginning of the duel? She should have managed that. If her grandparents were here, they would be displeased, both at her failure and her choice of words. Not that she cared what her grandparents thought, of course.

At least the blindfold that she did manage to conjure wrapped itself neatly around Logan's head... but Dee couldn't help but feel that they'd lost some of their advantage when she saw the impressive healing spell Dorion cast on both themselves and their partner. She was reluctantly impressed; healing was not one of her strong suits, but she recognised a good spell when she saw one. "Have you considered becoming a healer?" she called, the question genuine. "You seem pretty good at it."

Healing! How annoying! For Callie anyway, she hadn’t quite gotten the hang of that side of things yet. But much like Dee she could recognise good technique when she saw it and couldn’t help but nod in agreement with her teammate. Even if she couldn’t string together much of a sentence Callie offered her opponent a brief thumbs up whilst she sifted through her increasingly chaotic mess of thoughts. Quieting down all the noise in her head was difficult at the best of times but in a duel? Impossible! Almost.

After the next few actions unfolded before Dmitri's eyes, the Slytherin Captain concluded to himself that perhaps the Hufflepuffs might not be the best at handling pressure. When it seemed like both badgers were solidly in the lead and things were heating up, they clammed up, startled at their succes.

This would be to their misfortune as both Ravenclaws' spells hit them in full force: Dealla's Expelliarmus and Callie's Incendio Duo.

With the Hufflepuffs either missing their wand or missing their eyesight completely, as well as currently being aflame, one would think the Ravenclaws had the duel in the bag.

However, it truly was too early to tell.

Deciding to forego another split spell for the moment, Dee focused her attention on Dorion. She hadn't lied, that healing spell had been impressive - which was why she'd have to make sure they couldn't keep healing for the moment. Her spell struck true, leaving Dorion wandless, and Dee hummed, flipping her wand around her fingers, once, twice.

The Hufflepuffs seemed stunned, or maybe just indecisive, although what there was to decide when you were blindfolded, Dealla wasn't sure. Taking off the blindfold seemed the obvious choice, yet Logan remained motionless and blindfolded, and now on fire from Callie's spell. She supposed she shouldn't complain - the longer their opponents remained out of commission, the easier this would be. Although honestly, her small blunder with the previous spell aside, she thought they had this well in hand.

Logan was done, she was not going to be able to hit anything if she cast a spell and still had not managed to remove the blindfold from herself. Not even moments later the girl huffed in frustrations. "If I am on fire..." She growled out. Things were just not going her way and she did not appreciate it. If she was on fire right and now, she did not even care anymore.

They did…nothing? Well, that didn’t seem particularly thrilling. Even if things were on fire that weren’t Callie which was usually a good thing in her book. Although given her history of accidental failure she wasn’t going to count her chickens just yet. Instead she settled on rocking back and forth on the balls of her feet as she decided her next move.

Was this real? Dori just- froze. Their wand in hand, eyes staring forward at their opponents. Knowing their teammate was blindfolded and ah, now on fire. And oop! There goes their wand careening out of their hand. During their summertime of research about mental illness and gender identity (a fun summertime activity), Dorion had seem something about dissociating. Maybe that was what was happening? Or they were just so bad at being a wix they couldn't cast spells anymore. Who knew!

The following moments were what Dmitri would call fiery retribution. It seemed like the Ravenclaws were bent on further solidifying their lead as both duelists cast a tandem of Incendio Duos at the Hufflepuffs—who were all busy dealing with their own problems.

Dorion had to go pick up their wand while Logan pulled the bindings off of her eyes. The latter was the sole target of the flames the Ravenclaws conjured from their wands.

What was an early lead now looks like a pretty nasty cutback on the badgers, but as long as both were still standing, all hope is not lost.
