A New Friend Closed

I walk to the edge of the Great Lake with pure satisfaction. I was finally in here in Hogwarts, the school of magic, and I could not sit still. I needed someone to converse with, at least someone for a while. I could not even crouch down on the lake's muddy banks. She thought for a while of the lake, thinking of the anatomy  of it and whether or not to call it a certain way. All the while, she fiddled with her hair and bit her lip unconsciously. looking directly across the vast water, a group of Hufflepuffs were laughing like hyenas and pushing each other playfully. I wonder what it would be like to be in another House, she pondered.
But as I peered to the left of the Hufflepuffs, I saw a figure watching them. Their House was unclear, if they even had one. They were staring at the group, their face masked from the world, hidden for eternity. The figure took one glance at me, and disappeared. I shifted to look for them, but they vanished into thin air. I shook my head dismissively. Blast, I'm getting all giddy. I'll head back later.
But who was that? Surely no one wears a mask like that just to enjoy the view.

Amaya listened to the calm waves of the Great Lake, breathing in deeply as she began to read through her borrowed books on Potions — When she heard the quiet footsteps of someone pacing back and forth. She sighed.

Looking up from her book, she placed it down, and then watched the culprit. A Ravenclaw.

What is it with me finding Ravenclaws near the Great Lake? Is it some kind of House Magnet or something?

Amaya smiled at the thought. She decided to approach the girl. At least she’d stopped pacing around, now watching some people. She must’ve been new here.

Well, I’m new here too...

Amaya batted her thought away, strolling up to the girl, and smiling.

Well, a fake smile, but a smile nonetheless. “Hey! I’m Amaya. Amaya Bourne. Are you new here?”

Then Amaya forgot why she’d even gone up to the girl in the first place. She didn’t know what the girl was like, and wasn’t exactly sure if she wanted to know.

But it was kinda too late to back out now, so she had to stay there, hiding all her conflict with a smile, a strained smile, one that looked real enough for a pureblood mask, wondering what the girl would say.

She hoped she would be able to escape at some point.

Unless the girl turned out to be pleasant company, Amaya wasn't exactly too keen on talking and secretly berated herself for even starting a conversation with the girl.

Wow, my stupidity has reached new levels recently...

Then again, the girl was a Ravenclaw, so she hoped she might be able to even have a intellectual debate and such. This turned her smile into a more genuine one.

Then again, this was merely a thought... As Amaya had no real clue on how the conversation was going to go, or how well it would turn out to be.

"Yes, indeed. I'm Annelyse Wolfe." I paused for a split second.

"So who are you exactly? Is this your second year or first?" I was intent on learning about this person. After all, there's nothing wrong with starting a friendly conversation. Hmm... She's a Hufflepuff. Why are there so many here? Its like they've all been dragged out here so they could be harassed. An image of the lurking figure hit my head, but I deliberately pushed it away, and looked straight at Amaya. A long silence began to hang in the air. I stopped her slow pacing and looked around.

Streaks of deep orange streaked the mystical dusk sky. The last hint of light sufficed the tips of the Hogwarts castle, leaving the Lake concealed in darkness. This reminded her of the fact that she only attended the feast shortly before leaving to wander around the truly monumental school grounds. What I stayed quiet about was that I left to Diagon Alley for a swift ice cream treat, although I was nearly certain it was prohibited to leave like that. However, I just wanted something sweet with a frigid freshness, and ice cream perfectly fits that description.

I waited patiently for the girl's response.

Amaya paused, looking at Annelyse. "What do you mean by who am I? Well, I'm a first year, and a pureblood, if that's what you wanted to know."

Amaya had to keep herself from frowning at the girl.

She smiled a little though, seeing the beautiful dusk as the colors melted together, becoming darker and darker. She loved watching the sun set. It gave her a certain calmness that she thoroughly enjoyed.

Then she refocused her attention on Annelyse.

She wasn't sure if she liked the girl or not.

"Anyways... Likes? Dislikes?" Amaya attempted half-heartedly to continue the dying conversation, now falling into silence. "Potions? Writing? Reading?"

She admittedly listed things that she enjoyed while asking her, but...

If her likes aligned with hers in any way, then she at least had a chance to continue the conversation.

She didn't know, though.

She sighed. "Well, I like your name... It's pretty unique."

Amaya looked away, instead, intent on watching the sky that was currently only growing darker.

She contemplated running away now, a idea she entertained in her head. But it would only serve to make her seem weird, and, well, Amaya did care somewhat about her reputation... But she wasn't sure how far she was willing to go to keep up a reputation.

If you walked up to her and started a conversation, you better finish it,

Amaya listened, now facing the other student with a more happy smile. “And maybe drawing?”

She didn’t draw much, or think her art was good, but she did love inking and drawing borders.
