Hexwizard Task 1: Hogwarts v Koldovstoretz

Alan was quite happy with how well this was going and it reminded him a bit of duelling, even though the actions were vastly different and the concept too. However this kind of event provided the same thrill as a close duel might give and he was enjoying the first task quite a bit. He wondered ahead how the next tasks would look like but simply couldn't make up his mind on how those would play out, because he certainly hadn't expected a game of magic chess for the first task either.

When two of the Koldovstoretz students dropped, he was once again reminded that they were definitely at an advantage considering both age and skill level, but that wasn't really their fault either and he was certain it would be even worse for the other students' pride, if they decided to go easy on them. He however hoped that the spells they were able to cast within this type of task would not actually do them any harm. How was he to know? He wouldn't get hit by them anyway.

What was once eight on the team, two went unconscious. Hogwarts was indestructible. Was it because of the need to prove themselves because they were seen as the non-humans? As a pureblood, he was told to be the greatest of them all, it turned out to be wrong. “Oksana! Ro!” He screamed, for the sake of screaming. The black queen was crazy. Perhaps Rodion and the team did it incorrectly, he could spread his spells as well, but the thought of being the king was just overpowering. "Shit" For all he knew, he could shit his pants at that moment, but thankfully, he didn't.

Could it be karma showing its face because he was racist? Karma was the boyfriend, god, the breeze on their hair, a cat purring on the lap because it loves the Hogwarts people. He was envious because to him it wasn’t. Now that both his rook and queen are gone, who’s going to protect the sad king?

Percival gave a cold glare to the girl who bit back at his insult, intent on proving her wrong soon enough. Thankfully, he didn't have to wait long to watch that happen. With calculated spells, the student soon fell and was swiftly removed from the board. All that time the Slytherin would be watching, his head shaking from her incompetence "Don't say I didn't warn you..." he muttered in an unimpressed tone.

Turning his attention back to the game at hand, he saw one person of the opposite team aim for Pericles. Gritting his teeth, Gray leaned over and swapped places with the boy to take the hit instead "Ugh!" the pureblood grunted in reflection of the blow. It didn't half hit hard, but right now he'd need to fight through in order to help Hogwarts gain victory "You owe me one" he said with a brief nod of agony to Perc "Just make sure my sacrifice wasn't to waste"

If they were to win, they'd have to be selfless too. Gray understood that very well.

After the little moment of shock, Opeila clung on to her horse, partly to be less likely to slide off, partly to stop her hands from shaking. Her grandmother always used to say that being a seer was as much of a curse as it was a blessing, but it took some years for the young Slytherin to understand how it was true.

Anyway, she tried to direct her focus back to the game- unfortunately only to stare right into a pair of eyes. The moment she noticed what was happening, she turned her head away before the other knight could get her, but immediately was met with the gaze of the other eyes. Opeila froze on the spot, unable look away from the boy.

As if the vision wasn't enough, more images began to feel her mind. From a few feet away she could hear Bloom scream, was she struck with nightmares too? But- how was that possible if both the knights were targeting Opeila?
Opeila didn't scream, only a barely audible whimper escaped her lips. Her grip tightened around her horse, she could feel her fingernails break.

And then it stopped. Opeila exhaled, only noticing then that she had held her breath.
Right. What that boy could do, Opeila could do too and twice as effectively.
The young girl would focus on not one but two of the opponent player, making them live through similar nightmares- soon one of them collapsed.

Irina was not enjoying herself. This task made almost no sense to her and now here she was, in the midst on all the fighting, standing next to a terrible Hogwartian. To make matters even worse, they had decided to attack her. That was their second mistake. The first of which being the fact that Hogwarts had challenged them. Attacking them back, Irina exhaled in anger and frustration when her attack missed. She had to win this, there was no other way to prove Koldovstoretz was the best school. However, with two members of her team already down, Irina was getting a bit worried on their chances. She had to attack now or it could all be over. With that in mind, Irina set out to do just that, if she went, she went down with a fight.

Rosella and Oksana took the brunt of the fury of Hogwarts, and he winced as they were taken off the playing field (no pun intended). He moved to his place, clutching the book tightly as if he could prevent disaster with nothing but an iron fist and the wings of a book’s pages to take him away.

Kings

Hide Away: The King must save himself, he hides behind an adjacent allied piece and takes half damage (the piece they are hiding behind also takes half damage). Damage is not healing or buffs, it is just damage. Evasion here would be a separate roll for both the King (for their half) and the piece that they are hiding behind. This action occurs during the action phase which is before the movement phase, but has priority (meaning it happens before attacks, so an attack may not be possible or may be redirected towards another piece that is now "in the way.") The space is chosen by the King and must be adjacent to an allied piece. If the space is occupied, there would be a contested strength check to determine who will remain in this space unless the adjacent piece is an ally in which case a contested check is not needed. This is action can be done in addition to the movement phase.

King @Dealla Prince would confuse the wizarding world by making no movement, by performing no action. She would just stand there dressed to rule this board and let the events transpire as they may.

Meanwhile King Rodion (@Aurora Ranvier) would take the defensive after losing 2 allies. “Oksana! Ro!” He screamed, for the sake of screaming. The black queen was crazy! Hogwarts already knew this, but now it was international knowledge. "Shit" The game was merciless and the half-breeds they were faced up against were going to rip them apart if they were not careful. Rodion would move towards the lower corner of the board (Hide Behind) and attempt to regroup with his allies, taking refuge behind Maksim.

Queens

Mistress' (or Master's) Wrath: A ranged attack that can go in any direction the Queen can move. It cannot move through allied/enemy squares. A blast of arcane energy can be felt across the board. Arcane Power x 50. However, this attack is done at disadvantage and can only target 1 target.

@Pericles Dralt made a terrifying and not particularly benevolent queen. But his team did concern him. Opeila had nearly fallen from her horse. "Pei- are you alright?"

Well, she was good enough, she was still riding. Dealla would chide the teen. He was faster than that, truly. "I'm not typically in a hoop skirt!" A truth, a verifiable justification but he was injured also.

"I'm sure that can be included in our duelling practice,"@ Dealla Prince quipped. It might even help draw a crowd. They always did love a show.

Alan would offer Peri respite in the form of healing, "Thank you-" That was all he would be able to say before the barrage continued. Percival was moved aside once already by Percival and it was to their great benefit. "Much appreciated, that time in any case.

Rodion and Maksim would do the inexplicable and move in line of Pericles assault. Peri would unleash Master's Wrath on the both of them, the spell spread already intended for Rodion. He was only partially covered in spite of Maksim's best efforts. They would have suffered terribly had it not been for Percival. Had Percival not tossed Pericles aside just as he was about to blast the duo in front of him, both the King and the Rook would have been devastated (they were full hits). However, an oopsie daisy later, Pericles was on the other side of the meathead.

Rooks

Rapid Defense: They defend another allied piece as their primary action. This action takes place before the movement phase and takes priority in the action phase over attacks made against a specified piece. Similar to defending in Quidditch where a user blocks an oncoming attack made by a specific target, attacks made against this piece would be relegated to this piece (regardless of the direction of attack). If another piece attempts to land in the space that the defender chose (a specific, declared space adjacent to the chosen target), a strength check is rolled. This piece has advantage on this roll. This action does not consume the pieces movement for the round, they can still move, but their movement is considered to be the last movement in the round according to the action stack.

Toss Aside: exchanges places with an adjacent piece. Cannot be done on the diagonal. This involves a contested strength check and on success the Castle exchanges places with another piece. No contested strength is necessary of the piece is allies/wiling. This is done on the action phase which is before the movement phase which means that a statement movement action by an opponent might be impossible (and therefore lost), however the piece will attempt to move the same spaces in the same direction as previously declared.

"Yeah! Let's go!" @Howard White would make a rallying cry. That was a major victory for their team, taking out two of their pieces. Their action economy was crippled, they just needed to stay strong until the end. "Steady now!"

"Don't say I didn't warn you..." @Percival Grey attempted to move Pericles to the other side of him. The old, unexpected switcharoo. It had worked out well for them the last round. Well, for Peri at least. "You owe me one" he said with a brief nod of agony to Perc "Just make sure my sacrifice wasn't to waste." A tough, 'cool' guy until the end. However timing would prove to be their bane as they swapped places and Perival's targets ended up being where he was just moments before!

The outrage.

Maksim would rush in front of Rodion, protecting him from -thankfully- nothing. In an alternate universe, one where Pericles had not moved and tried to strike them there, the both of them would have been blasted directly with an unforgiving darkness.

Bishops

Intercession: Using their Wisdom, they are able to shield a single target against an attack. The shielded target must be adjacent. They would protect the target for Wisdom x 10. This would take priority over any other attacks done. Remains on a target until it is exhausted. Can be maintained on more than one target. Does not stack.

"May this shield protect your back better than you've protected mine," Serena had told Bloom (the previous round) as she granted the girl a boon. To those that heard the words, it might seem as if they were friends. But there was a betrayal that would run deep between the two of them over the one matter that girls would fight over -- boys. Serena had pined over Howard for years, she struggled to make small talk with him and then one day in short order another girl, a friend swooped in and took what should have been hers. Envy, spite, a sense of abandonment and betrayal...

She would move on. There were others that needed her. @Serena Towers would cast Intercession on Percival, saying kind words that she found in the 'holy' book that seemed to be full of live-laugh-love quotes but they were strangely effective.

@Alan Vanes would do the same and cast Intercession on @Opeila Winters. At least it was not another moment between Alan and Howard to make @George Henry jealous.

Kamila Yavlinsky (@Marina Oriel) would bolster Maksim Levin (@Monica Evans) by casting Intercession on the ally. He was standing between pain and certain death for Rodion at the moment, so the longer he was able to keep standing, the better chance that they would find their way out of this mess.

Knights

Slayer: The Knight attacks a target adjacent to themselves. Strength x 50, plus 10% of the total damage done for three rounds (considered bleeding). This cannot critically hit.

Nikolai Tyzhkov (@Avery Mccall) was adjacent to the girl that had blasted herself in the face with he own spell. By the looks of it, he could be thankful for the mishap, but she was also dangerous. if that spell had went off, would some of them still be standing? Possibly not.

"Bloom! I'm here. We are here! Don't give in!" Howard would call out to her, but it was like she was hearing his voice beneath a league of water. A muffled noise. Words lost.

"Just a bit of foul magic, Bloom," Pericles joined in. "It'll pass- hold on!" Voices too soft and distant to reach her.

When the nightmare broke, her bleary gaze would look around. Her intended target had fled.
