The Hufflepuff Table 2022-2023

Pearl's excitement grew as she entered the Great Hall with the other first years. They all flocked down the aisles to the front wearing their black robes and uniforms. The Headmaster cleared his throat before starting his speech welcoming the new and returning students back to Hogwarts. Pearl listened intently as he spoke and watched as another professor brought out the sorting hat. Her parents always talked about their time at Hogwarts and the friends they made in their houses, and others. The two would sit and joke back and forth with each other about which house was better, her father being a Ravenclaw and her mother being a Hufflepuff. She wondered even before she got her letter what house she would fit into.
"Pearl Goodall," the professor called out. Pearl immediately looked up at the sorting hat and felt the nerves hit her, the moment was finally here. She stepped up to the seat and sat down, looking out over the four different houses' tables as the sorting hat was placed onto her head. The hat hummed as it sat on top of her head, "Hmm.. let's see..." Pearl closed her eyes tight as she waited anxiously for the hat to make it's decision. "I think it will have to be.... Hufflepuff!" She opened her eyes and smiled widely as the Hufflepuff section was on their feet clapping for her, their new Hufflepuff.
Pearl quickly hopped down from the seat and made her way over to them, getting some pats on the back and lots of welcomes and congratulations from the group of students. She was pleased with the outcome and couldn't wait to send an owl to her mother with the news. As the rest of the students were finished being sorted, a grand feast was laid out before their eyes. Pearl could hardly contain herself and started eating along with the rest of them.

The Hufflepuff Table 2022-2023
The Sorting Ceremony had already taken every ounce of energy out of Harris. He was tired, nervous, and knew absolutely nobody. On top of that, he remembered his contact lens, which he normally forgot he even had on, and it was making his eye uncomfortable.
Shaky hands reached up to the charm necklace around Harris's neck. He toyed with the moon charm before fiddling with the arrow charm, poking himself in the finger with its tiny dull point. The necklace was supposed to make him feel calm. Neither of his parents said it, but he knew that's what it was supposed to do. In a way, it did. It was like he had a piece of all his family right there with him. The moon was his dad, the paw print his papa, the book charm was Dustin's, the arrow Kasey's, and the little cloud charm was Carter's through process of elimination. It was sentimental and heartwarming. Just the thing Harris needed in a new place where the only people he knew were sitting at different tables.
Longingly glancing at the Slytherin and Gryffindor tables were doing absolutely nothing. Harris needed something to take his mind off of the loneliness that was starting to consume his mind. And that distraction came unexpectedly, in the form of one of Harris's favorite things.
There were plates filled with food that miraculously appeared all throughout the table. Because of course a magic school would have magic food. There was so much that Harris was certain there was no way any normal person or group of people could have made it all. So this food had to be magic somehow, right? How did this all work? He watched as other people at the table took their food. Some took generous portions, others took smaller amounts. Normally, eating around other people was weird, here, maybe it wouldn't be. Though, Harris didn't even know why he felt that way in the first place. It wasn't like he ate a lot. Maybe he just thought eating was weird in general? Dustin did tell him about misophonia and it could be that.
Harris pushed his thoughts aside and happily reached for the nearest thing to put on his plate. He was trying not to look at anyone else as he did so. Sure, he would be fine if one, or maybe even two people walked to him. But if it went over three, Harris would simply die on the spot. He was not ready to deal with that much interaction yet.

It was hard to edit out the remaining first years needing to join their Houses. They had only just finished 'H' and still there were twenty-five letters to go. She tried her best not to be anxious as she casted a glance towards the Gryffindor table which was the red one. She thought about her parents' reactions upon finding out her destined House before she realized they wouldn't be disappointed.
Maybe he father, but he had plenty of friends in all the houses and thought it was rather weird to separate, especially when rivalries and alliances formed. It was a bit silly as she looked around the table. She tried to be spot anybody who she might know.
A harder task when she remembered how she moved to South Korea when she was seven years old until she was back in The United Kingdoms just a few months prior to her letter delivery. Most of her friends probably forgot about her and created new bonds of friendships.
She just had to try to make new friends.
Soon the last name was called and sorted. Speeches were made and finally food suddenly appeared on the tables. She looked around trying to decide what to eat. It took a few minutes until she asked somebody to pass a pasta dish.

The Hufflepuff Table 2022-2023
Alexander Harland
“I will teach the lot, and treat them just the same.”
But what a day! Alexander had never been this excited before. Now the whole day seemed to him some kind of dream. Leaving the house, arriving at the station, boarding the Hogwarts Express... A magical castle, a talking hat... Merlin's beard! A talking hat! Seriously? Well, of course, he was aware of their existence beforehand, but only theoretically. Hearing something was one thing, seeing it, however, was completely another experience. The puzzled expression on his face as he slowly walked to the Hufflepuff Table could easily be mistaken for that of a Muggle-born. He hoped that the deep joy he felt at the moment would somewhat overcome his dizzy face.
So Hufflepuff. Her grandmother's house. Helga, the loyal and lovely witch of the olden times, founded his house with the principle to teach magic to anyone, without distinction. This, for Alexander, was a noble cause indeed. Even the noblest one it might be. "The heart is exceptionally wide, my sunny boy," her grandma used to say, "never ever think that it is possible to fill its hall." Following her footsteps, young Alexander was chosen to be a Hufflepuff in order to prove that to be true. His heart was filled with genuine warmth, and he sincerely wished that the doors of his heart would be open to all, whoever they might be. Isn't it the whole point of the Hufflepuff?
He walked with an ear-to-ear smile to the table of his future friends. They were loudly applauding Alexander as the Sorting Hat had sent him to Hufflepuff. Solidarity was already proven to be cheerful. He had never met these yellow-robed young students before. Still, he felt a closeness, even a fondness to them, as if they had entered into a union of destiny. As soon as he sat down at the table, several Hufflepuffs gathered around him. Alexander shook hands with them, and they exchanged good intentions and kind words with each other. Blissful. Calming. Joyful. It was as much Hufflepuff as a moment could be. "Thanks for the warm welcome,", he said, "it is very, very kind of you." Ahead on the right, a girl asked him if she had heard his name correctly. "Yes, my name is Alexander. Nice to meet you!" A few minutes later, he was already telling a story to these first acquaintances at Hogwarts: "Did you know that my grandmother was also a Hufflepuff? Once upon a time -she's very old now- so I believe at least 50 years ago..."

The cookies had made Daphne quite full, the young girl once more looking around her. The Sorting Ceremony was still going on and she was keeping an eye out for her friends Ciel Saskia, Wren Dewitt and Lexie Sereno, whom she had met before the ceremony. She was curious on the houses they'd become sorted into. Her eyes then laid upon a Korean girl who was nearby her and had asked to pass the pasta dish. She reached forward considering it was in front of her before passing it over to her.
"Here!" She exclaimed, sitting up more in order to make a good first impression. "My name is Daphne Sapphirus, looks like we both got sorted into Hufflepuff!" She exclaimed proudly right before her attention had turned to a blonde boy who had just arrived. Daphne noticed how the Hufflepuffs gathered around him, and she already assumed he'd be a popular kid, especially considering he looked rather charming-at least to her. Whenever he would pause in his story, Daphne spoke up so that he'd be able to hear her. "I've heard stories about Hogwarts all those years ago, it was never boring to say the least. On my father's side of the family they are all Gryffindors and Slytherins. My brother and I are the first Hufflepuffs." She didn't mention her mother, she was a full-blooded Veela so she couldn't attend Hogwarts. However, if she could, Daphne believed that she'd be a Ravenclaw.

The Hufflepuff Table 2022-2023
After waiting in a winding line, Ivy had finally gotten sorted. She headed to the Hufflepuff table, where she knew she'd be. She came from a long line of hufflepuffs, after all. She sat near the end of the table and grabbed several turkey legs and some meat pies. She loved meat pies. She took a sip of her pumpkin juice and eavesdropped on the other conversations quietly. She loved to talk, but she didn't want to get fussed at for butting in. So she simply listened and ate, listened and ate. She looked around the table, scouting out a potential friend. So far, no one seemed to notice her, and if they did, they didn't care. Ivy was used to being ignored so she wasn't upset by it. Her older sister would have been a third year now if she had inherited any magic abilities, but she was a squib. Ivy was grateful for that, because she would once again have to live under the shadow of her sister. She was glad that she could finally start anew, and prove herself as more than just the ugly sister. Today was going to be great. This YEAR was going to be great. She was going to make friends (hopefully) and she was going to learn spells, and be a great witch in general. She listened in on the conversations a little more, and eventually tried to join one.

The Hufflepuff Table 2022-2023
Ember walked over to the Hufflepuff table, keeping her head down nervously. She slowly sat down at the far end of the table, trying her best to avoid eye contact with anybody at the table. After seeing the four different houses she definitely felt safest at the Hufflepuff table. The Ravenclaws seemed nice but Ember thought she wasn't the smartest person and understood why she wasn't sorted into Ravenclaw. The Gryffindors scared her a bit. They all seemed loud and obnoxious, very sure about themselves. She thought they seemed safe but still would keep her distance. The Slytherins scared her the most. She heard the rumors on the train about them. How all dark witches and wizards have come from the Slytherin house. She heard the rumors about what happened in the 90s here at the school. That made her think she should keep her distance from any of the students from that house, but at the same time, why completely shut someone out just for the house they were in? She looked around the table at her new housemates. They definitely seemed the nicest out of anyone here, and Hufflepuff was supposed to be the house for those who are kind and caring.

The Hufflepuff Table 2022-2023
Madison, having just been sorted into Hufflepuff, went over to the table and sat down in a free spot. She listened to the others talking and looked over at @George Henry.
she said with a giggle. She then started eating and interacting with the others, explaining what her mum does. You play Quidditch? That's so cool, my dad played Quidditch for England professionally but had to stop after he got concussed by a rogue bludger
she said with a chuckle,She works as a member of the Accidental Reversal Squad, she comes back with a lot of funny stories sometimes, other times she doesn't since they aren't as interesting. A lot of their incidents are when kids first discover their magic and therefore something goes wrong. They once had to deflate a dog when a young witch accidentally made it inflate and start flying away
. She listens to the others and then stays quiet since, although she isn't shy, she does get quite nervous when around a lot of new people. She'd dreamed about coming to Hogwarts since she was young, having listened to all the stories her older brother had told her, but actually being here made it very real for her and she was starting to get nervous, not quite sure about what to do or where she was meant to gothat one is always my favourite story to tell

The Hufflepuff Table 2022-2023
As the sorting hat was removed from Jays head, she felt a bit confused. Both her sisters had been sorted into Slytherin, so naturally, she expected to find herself in the same house. Jay had never considered the possibility of belonging to any other house, but now, as she walked over to the table filled with students with yellow lined robes, she started to look back on her past experiences. Perhaps she took her house for granted, and now that she thinks about it, Hufflepuff doesn't seem like that much of a stretch.
Jay was pulled from her thoughts when she reached the table, the only seat was a few benches down, and the next student was already being sorted, she quickly walked over to the open seat and took her place amongst the students. Unlike the other houses, the Hufflepuff students didn't sit so much my year, as wherever they wanted. To her right was someone much, much older than her, likely a seventh-year, in front of her, a fourth-year by the looks of him, and to her left, another first-year.
Jay took a deep breath, and joined into the light conversation around her, pausing whenever the sorting hat started to talk. The topic flowed from quidditch, to herbology and potions class, to the favorite and least favorite teachers, and then to some juicy gossip concerning a seventh year ravenclaw caught bringing a self writing quill into the school.
When the last student had been sorted, the headmaster stood up and gave a speech, I didn't listen much, it was the same speech that she had heard recited by her sisters for that last seven years, and she knew it by heart. Instead, Jay gazed at the floating candles, the charmed ceiling, and any other point of interest that caught her eye.
Jay hadn't noticed that the entrance speech had ended, until food appeared right before her face. She was startled, but not surprised, having heard all about the feasts prepared in the kitchens and magically transported to the table. The first-year to her left had not had a similar experience and gasped so hard Jay was afraid she would go into shock.
Jay wasted no time digging into her meal and joining into the once again lively chatter. Jay may not have ended up in the house she expected, but she could tell that she was going to fit in just fine here.

The Hufflepuff Table 2022-2023
Wilby slipped the sorting hat off his head once it had announced his name to the whole school. He had already been sitting there with the uncomfortably large thing covering half his face for the last ten minutes! He had never been a fan of stages, and hated the feeling of everyone staring at him.
He ducked into the applauding crowd and found the table under the Hufflepuff banner. He walked past, getting occasional slaps on the backs and encouraging words as he searched for an isolated seat.
He finally was able to find an empty seat next to a red-haired girl (@Jay Perrin), and sat down quickly, still feeling several pairs of eyes on his neck.
After a couple more first years had been announced and taken their respective seats, food appeared infront of him. Out of nowhere. No one had come and passed the food down, or handed Wilby anything -- the food had just appeared. Most of the students around him didn't seem to give it a second thought and dove right into feasting.
Wilby glanced under the table but still found nothing. Maybe food appearing in front of him and owls delivering letters to him was something he should just get used to at this school.
He cautiously reached forward and filled his plate with some of the food, waiting for someone more confrontational to initiate conversation with him.
