John was lying down on the cool grass looking up at the sky. It was a beautiful blue with the fluffiest clouds you could imagine. One of the best parts about Hogwarts was its distance from really everything. While John didn’t know its exact location, he could tell that there wouldn’t be a city for miles. There was no air pollution, no annoying noises, it was just peaceful. Fall here was a beautiful time John decided.

He had already sent an owl to Lexie telling her to meet up here so it was just a matter of waiting. John had brought all of his notes and textbooks and laid them out next to him. The only thing he didn’t have was a broom as he didn’t know where to get one. Hopefully Lexie had brought two brooms with her.

The breeze was nice and cool to the touch. So much so in fact that John could fall asleep with relative ease if he wasn’t waiting for anyone.

This would be the first time John had ever studied with someone so he wanted it to be perfect. He had stayed up late the night before to study all of the first year courses determined to be of some assistance.

Dashing through the Grounds, she quickly checked her watch, cringing when she realized she was more than five minutes late. Lexie had received an owl the day before from John, a Gryffindor friend she had met, asking about tutoring. She had agreed but after an embarrassing incident during her History of Magic class, she nearly forgot. After running to her dorm to grab her broom, she ran to the Grounds.

Unfortunately, she only had a school broom, because even though her father was well off, he refused to spoil her with much money-- unless she did chores.

Finally, Lexie spotted the brown haired boy sitting on the green grass, staring at the beautiful fall colored trees. Though the early November weather was cold, it was a particularly pleasant day with that perfect blue sky with fluffy white clouds floating about.

She made her way over to John and plopped herself on the grass next to him. Lexie put down the broom, and took her bag off her shoulders. "Hey, John! Sorry I'm late but it's nice to see you," she said with a grin. The smile faded a bit when she said, "No broom? That's alright, you can use mine if we practice!"

Lexie riffled through her bag and fished out a few textbooks and homework assignments. The sight of a half finished essay made her groan and push the messily written scroll away from her.

John gave a nod towards the new arrival as she started to unpack her materials. He lifted himself into a seated position and stretched out his back. A decently loud pop reverberated in his ears as he hit just the right spot. After that he brought his textbooks closer to him and wiped their covers just in case they got dirty anyway. His parents had to buy those books with their own money so he was going to make sure they last as long as possible.

Feeling satisfied with his set up John directed his attention back at Lexie. “So, how do you want to start this off?” he said with a glance towards the many different books and notes he had in front of him. “I feel I am proficient enough to help with most subjects. Though there might be one or two I’m pretty much abysmal at.”

John didn’t like gloating at all, it was something he tried to steer as far away from as possible. That isn’t to say he isn’t happy with his grades he has a lot of self-pride when it comes to his studies he just would never try to make someone feel inferior over it. Usually he kept his grades to himself but this was an exception.

"I'm fine with starting with anything," Lexie told him, a sentence which was very true since she was less than good at most subjects. "I have a Potions assignment due this afternoon, so maybe we start with that?" She plucked a daisy with one hand and tucked it behind her ear, before cracking her knuckles, preparing herself for the horrors that was academics.

The assignment in question was relatively easy-- to understand and write a few paragraphs on the method of making a simple potion, and the things to remember while doing so. She decided to start with that as she wasn't that bad at Potions, and wanted to make a good first impression. Lexie wondered how John would do at flying, but quickly forced herself to focus on herself instead.

She opened her textbook and flipped through it, skimming the small text and glancing at the diagrams. Lexie opened her mouth to speak when a butterfly landed on the page, and fluttered its butter yellow wings which sparkled in the morning sun. It climbed onto her finger, and she didn't dare to move until it flapped its wings and took into the air, out of her line of sight. Lexie blinked. She had gotten distracted so easily! Promising herself not to let it happen again, she looked up at John.

Channeling as much enthusiasm as she could muster, she exclaimed, "Let's do this!"
