The Aftermath of a Confrontation
As Mary talked about her theory on cars, Josh couldn't help but think that Muggles were not as savage as he first believed. Those animals actually did something good for once. However, that still really means nothing.
"I'm sure you would like to ride in one of those things and have fun talking to people for long hours I bet," Josh commented. "I still don't find them too impressive though but I still see your point."
Mary was such an interesting character. Despite being somewhat awkward in a way, he did find her so amusing. It was as almost as if he would fall in love with her, but how can an 11 year old kid know anything about love? Especially after growing up with a bunch of twits he calls family, Josh never fully understood anything about feelings of love and friendship. However, after meeting with Mary, he could relate to her more and more. Now I wonder how she feels about me. I hope she at least thinks of me as a friend. Though, I would love it if she feels a lot more than that about me. Josh let that thought seep into his mind, but suddenly, he started to doubt. This is too good to be true. There's no way a sweet girl like that would possibly like me back. Oh well, only one way to find out.
"Mary, this might sound so stupid, but I think I like you," Josh stated awkwardly. "It's funny because I never felt this way in my life for as long as I can remember."
Josh tried to look at her in the eyes, but felt ashamed to do so. He quickly turned around and closed his eyes hoping that she didn't take what he said seriously although he is secretly hoping she did.

Mary seemed dazed after her theory on the muggle things that she simply wanted to take in everything there is to know about them. She, of course, knew that she couldn't simply ask Josh about muggle things seeing as he despised everything about them. Maybe if i could get to know him more he'd open up about his adventures to the muggle world.
"I'm sure you would like to ride in one of those things and have fun talking to people for long hours I bet," Josh commented. "I still don't find them too impressive though but I still see your point."
The duo continued their walk down the long hall while Mary thought to herself. Everything muggles did impressed her really. She saw that these muggles did everything without magic and it all functioned smoothly. Though, with her being heir to a line of Slytheirn pure-bloods why would she think such a way? Maybe she more different from her family than she first assumed.
Mary went on ranting about how muggle things are certainly very impressive to Josh when the boy stopped her mid-rant.

Mary froze. She hadn't quite been in this situation before. Thoughts raced her mind. What does he mean by that? Does he like me as a friend? Or does he think of me as a crush?She didn't quite understand what to say in this moment. So she said

That stunned question from Mary put Josh's mind in a frenzy. Oh no! I'm doomed! What am I gonna do!? Sensing that Mary hasn't done anything yet, he turned back to face her.
"Please don't make me say it again." Josh replied softly. "It was awkward enough trying to find the courage to admit how I felt."
The reaction that Mary had, Josh knew it was of confusion. He knew he really liked her, but after thinking about what he said, he knew she could take at least 2 options into account. Either she takes it as Josh liked her as a friend or as a crush. Whatever her thoughts were, the fact that Josh never experienced such feelings in his life, whether they be true friendship or love, made it more terrifying for him.
Let's hope that she's not being my friend just to hear more stories about my time in the Muggle world. I honestly would rather forget all of this and pretend it never happened.

Marys' question seemed to make Josh panic. She didn't quite mean for him for him the freak out but she simply didn't know if meant it in a friendship way or not. Either way Mary wanted to be his friend.
"Please don't make me say it again." Josh replied softly. "It was awkward enough trying to find the courage to admit how I felt."
"Well in that case, i like you too!" Mary said smiling confidently. She didn't know if she meant in a like like way but she did know she liked talking to him so she'd like to be his friend.
"You're not here just to have me tell you Muggle stories... right?" Josh asked carefully.
Mary thought that that was a ridiculous question, theres more to a friendship than just stories of the past.
"No of course not Joshie. Theres more to life than muggle stories." Mary said. She realized that only after she said her sentence she gave Josh a nickname. She knew it might annoy him but she said it absent-mindedly.
Mary looked at the clock and saw that it was getting quite late but she didn't want to cut her time with Josh short. Is this boy willing to sneak past curfew? Mary thought. Yes Mary was indeed the bookworm but she doesnt want to spend her time without doing a little rule breaking. She would have to see what Josh would say.

"What do you suppose we do, its getting quite late" Mary had asked. Josh also looked at the clock and just as she said, it was getting late. If the two do stay up, they might get caught by the professors lurking in the halls after hours. Maybe if I'm lucky, she'll wanna hang out with me more. In that case, I know the perfect place to hang while avoiding the staff.
"You don't wanna just say goodbye and wait for each other tomorrow right?" Josh asked. He looked up at Mary and saw her face lit up for a moment, but she immediately returned to her previous state. Josh smiled. He walked up to Mary and whispered in her ear.
"I know a perfect spot where the professors won't find us."
Josh couldn't keep his excitement contained. His heart was beating faster and faster. This might be his chance to show her how he truly felt about her. Sure, he's only 11 years old, but then again, the adults definitely make love much more complicated than it should be. Even from his limited understanding on love, at least he knew that love happened if the two liked each other.
"You don't wanna just say goodbye and wait for each other tomorrow right?" Josh asked. He looked up at Mary and saw her face lit up for a moment, but she immediately returned to her previous state. Josh smiled. He walked up to Mary and whispered in her ear.

When Mary asked her question she could see that the boy was thinking.Maybe he'll wanna keep hanging out. Mary hoped this was the case. She knew they couldn't hang out in the common rooms because well they were different houses, she wondered if Josh knew any spots.
"You don't wanna just say goodbye and wait for each other tomorrow right?" Yes!Mary thought as her face lit up with excitment. He still wants to hang out!
"I know a perfect spot where the professors won't find us." Josh whispered into her ear.
The action made a blush creep up Marys face and onto her cheeks. She was still immature-being 11- so she wasn't quite sure how to react to this.
"okay"Mary said softly "Where to?"
Mary had never really gotten to do any adventures with anyone so she hoped that that tonight would be a night to remember for her time being at Hogwarts. finally a real friend Mary thought happily to herself.
As Josh guided Mary towards the unknown spot Mary spoke
"So what do you normally do at Hogwarts? Have you met many other people?" Mary thought this was an important question. If the boy had many friends it would mean he was generally nice to people and it was a chance for her to see if the boy normally got himself into troublesome situations.

The Aftermath of a Confrontation
Josh strolled the corridors with Mary. He knew the only place where they could be safe was that abandoned girls' lavatory on the 2nd floor. Of course there was that ghost known as Moaning Myrtle lurking in the bathroom, but at least it was a safe haven from the professors. While they were on their way, Mary asked an interesting question.
"So what do you normally do at Hogwarts? Have you met many other people?"
Josh didn't wanna pause for the professors might be searching the castle looking for any stragglers to catch, deduct points, and place in detention. Instead, Josh kept going. He was almost there.
"I don't really do much. I usually focus on my studies so I can be better than my family," Josh started. "I could never imagine myself going to extreme measures just to hang out with someone especially after meeting nothing but people being pricks to me."
Josh and Mary were nearing the 2nd floor corridor when he sensed a presence. He heard loud footsteps coming towards them from the other side of the corridor. Josh had his arm out against Mary's chest and motioned her to shush. Josh peeked through the corner and saw a professor there with a lantern. Evidently, they were on patrol. The professor turned the other way and walked over to the other end of the corridor out of sight.
"That was too close for comfort!" Josh whispered.
The two made it safely to the girls' bathroom and just as he predicted. Nobody was there. They were safe for now, but from the looks of it, seems like they were safe for the night.
