Bored is the only thought that's in Kierce's mind today. It was the weekend in Kierce's opinion the worst time of the week, nothing to do, no homework, no projects that needed to be done. He knew that this was probably one of his least popular opinions but at least he had a reason unlike some people who just hate things for no apparent reason like spiders and with that thought he put his hand to his head slowly petting Cyprus. "Cy it's just one of those days you know mate? " He was just going to ignore that he was just wandering around the castle talking his spider. Yeah lad not strange at all speaking to the spider on top of your head. his mind replied
So what if his most intresting conversations were with himself or Cyprus that doesn't make me weird. Do you even hear yourself? I mean everyone your age is talking to each other going to parties having fun! what do you do? Talk to a tarantula that can't hear nor understand what your saying In Kierce's opinion that wasn't bad to be honest Kierce was okay without people what's the problem with that?

"Well lad if you have any better ideas that don't involve me shaming myself for not wanting to talk to people." He continued his walk around the castle every so often looking at all the magical objects that never seemed to stop amazing the young boy. I've never thought that anything like this would exist I mean just look at the paintings and stairs that move by themselves everything here seems to break physics or defy some scientific law Kierce continued his roam around the hollow halls until he saw the sign in the next doorway.

Library the golden ink read, Kierce peeked inside and saw a gigantic room every shelf loaded with books! Looks like I found the better idea... The library was pretty empty other than the occasional student studying or doing homework. That meant I was probably not going to meet anyone else on his raid of the books around him. I was smiling from ear to ear just thinking about how much time he could spend being in the library. Kierce ran through the empty sections of library quickly grazing each book and reading the title to see if there was anything of his interests. He had been looking for around five minutes when he spotted something that piqued his interests Dragon Species of Great Britain and Ireland. He quickly pulled out the golden cover and ran to the nearest table. While I ran to the table I may have accidentally ran into another kid in the library, that took a while to process in my mind before I realized Oh I ran into someone, I ran into someone. What if I hurt them? What if they're a jerk about the situation? A million thoughts raced through Kierce's mind and the world seemed to speed up and his vision began to become slightly blurry. He slowed down his breathing and manged to calm himself in a few seconds. I turned around and went over to the boy I ran into "I'm sorry lad, I wasn't watching where I was going and was so focused on getting to that table. You okay? Sorry for not introducing myself, names Kierce. Do you need any help?" My voice was speeding up again so I just stood there waiting for the person to speak.

It has been a rather uneventful weekend for Wren, which to be fair, wasn’t all that surprising. He had taken his time wandering around the castle and exploring what he could in between classes and now the weekend had arrived. Part of him had wanted to stay in the dorm room but another part of him also didn’t want to be known as the boy who never left the dorm except for classes. So, with some reluctance, he went out and searched for a place to distract himself and stay busy.

Eventually, he came across the library which he wasn’t sure how he hadn’t thought about before. Back home he could almost always be found reading a book with a stack of books either next to him or in his bag so going to the library to spend time should have been the obvious choice. Then again though, the whole new magic school thing had kinda thrown him for a loop so he couldn’t exactly blame himself for not thinking about it before.

He entered through the doors and immediately felt at home with the rows upon rows of large bookshelves filled to the brim with books. It also helped that there weren’t many people in the library which he supposed made sense since most kids his age were probably out hanging with their friends or making new ones. This had never particularly been Wren’s strong suit, the closest things he could have considered as friends back home would have been his dad and perhaps the few birds that roamed the garden which was kinda sad to be fair.

Not willing to let his thoughts cloud his mind though, he quickly went off in search of books grabbing a few here and there that caught his attention. A book on potions, a book on famous wizards and witches, and of course a copy of “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” which he had already read his own copy for school multiple times but he enjoyed it so why not read it again? He wandered for a while, skimming the shelves to see if he could find anything else, he felt something or someone run into him which caught him off balance. Luckily, due to his small stature, Wren was fairly used to people running into him so he was able to catch himself before he fell over.

He looked around to see who had run into him but it appeared the culprit had already run off. He shrugged fairly used to it at this point and began to walk off again when a rather tall boy with blond hair came up to him and quickly started to apologize. It appeared this had been the culprit and the boy quickly introduced himself as Kierce. “It’s uh… alright really, it happens more than you would think,” Wren told him, having to look up slightly to answer him, “I understand completely, no harm done really." Wren did his best to give a warm smile but it probably came off as pretty awkward and quickly stopped deciding since Kierce introduced himself he probably should as well.

“I’m um… I’m Wren it’s uh… nice to meet you.” As he said this though looking up at the tall boy he could have sworn he saw something move on the boy’s head. As he focused, he was pretty sure that he wasn’t seeing things and saw a few legs and a number of eyes, he was pretty sure it was a spider, and a decent-sized one at that. His curiosity getting the better of him, he couldn’t help but ask, “this um… may be kind of a weird question but um… is that a spider on your head?”

“It’s uh… alright really, it happens more than you would think,” The kid I knocked over replied, that made me feel worse since whoever this was was used to I mean I would hate to be pushed around like that and to not care about it? Or maybe they just don't want to say anything? You're overthinking this I mean it was one simple sentence. Just don't think about it. Kierce thought. “I understand completely, no harm done really." He realized a that the kid had said something around ten seconds after he said that I can't pay attention for ten seconds to realize someone is speaking. were some of his only thoughts while he mumbled "I'm still sorry I should have watched were I was going" that was a lame apology in my mind, I mean I ran into the lad! He should be upset, right?

The boy smiled which seemed slightly awkward. Kierce didn't care he had the same thing happen to him multiple times in which he tried to smile but it never seemed right and always came out like he was nervous or just seemed awkward.“I’m um… I’m Wren it’s uh… nice to meet you.” . I'd calmed down enough to slightly lace over the common terms that us English lads use. Remember mother said most people don't take you seriously if you use slang words. Stay dignified and you earn respect and people will think better of you.. I paused deciding my choice words " Nice to meet you then wren." I came off a little quieter than I intended like always, I should have expected that I'm not really the best when it comes to talking with people. Especially since you can have just as interesting conversations Made up or not. with animals like Cyprus.

Kierce's mind wandered for a few seconds, Did Cyprus fall asleep? She's been still for as long as I've been in the library, but maybe she liked it here and felt comfortable. Well she probably was until I ran into Wren.. Then Cyprus started to wander around on his head So now your awake when I'm trying and in my opinion, failing to talk to someone?. Kierce couldn't help but notice Wren looking at his hair, “this um… may be kind of a weird question but um… is that a spider on your head?”. Kierce smiled and replied with "Oh so you noticed my fashion choice, it's very unique is it not?" This was Kierce's best attempt at a joke and it helped him realize why he doesn't tell jokes. His face went a red "I'm sorry don't know why I said that it was stupid I just blurted it out for no good reason, but to answer your question yes it's she's a spider and my pet she's just comfortable on my head like most of her species" Yep I'm never gonna live this down

He looked down and saw all of the books he was carrying. Should I help him out? I mean I kind of owe him for bumping into him and it's the nice thing to do. But he may not want help and be upset that I would even ask. He doesn't seem like that kind of person though. I'll just ask . I tapped my foot (Truth was I was probably doing that this entire time, I have habit of doing that when I'm nervous) "Uh... Would you like some help with the books you have?"

As Wren asked his question, he couldn’t help but notice Kierce seem to brighten up a bit as he went to answer and even went as far as to try and joke which he couldn’t help but smile at a little, or at least Wren was pretty sure the boy in front of him was trying to joke. Before he couldn’t say anything though, Kierce quickly rushed to explain himself. He explained that there was in fact a spider and that it was his pet which Wren found to be quite interesting.

It wasn’t every day you met someone with a pet spider, especially not as big as the one in front of him. He had seen his fair share of garden spiders and the like back home and had quickly been assigned the job of quickly removing spiders from the house and putting them outside before his father saw them. He had always found spiders to be rather interesting and kinda pretty in their own way, they certainly helped his plants from being eaten which was rather nice and they were a rather good inspiration for drawing when he had the motivation to.

In his own world as he thought about the spiders back home he caught Kierce asking if he wanted help with any of the books he was carrying. Wren looked down at the few books in his arms and looked back up at the tall blonde boy to answer, “Oh um… thank you but I think I've got it. This is actually fairly light compared to my usual stack of books and really no worries.” Wren could certainly tell Kierce was rather nervous and he couldn’t help but feel kinda bad. He certainly understood why, he had never particularly been very good at these sorts of situations himself but part of him wanted to help so he decided to turn the conversation back to Kierce’s spider. He had least seemed to brighten a bit at that and things certainly couldn’t get any more awkward… right?

"She’s a very lovely spider you have, I um… don’t think I’ve ever seen one quite as big as her. To be fair though I’ve uh… only ever really seen small garden spiders, but um… does she have a name? I feel a little bad calling her just spider if she has one,” Wren did his best to make the conversation and the whole situation a little less awkward, unfortunately, that had never really been his strong suit.

He fiddled with the sleeve of his sweater a little and rocked back and forth on his heels, hoping to possibly calm his nerves a bit. One of the few conversations he had had at the school and he was pretty sure he was blowing it, but oh well, certainly wouldn’t be the first or last time this ever happened. Of course, he really did hope this was the last time it happened but the odds were not in his favor.

Oh um… thank you but I think I've got it. This is actually fairly light compared to my usual stack of books and really no worries.” Kierce tried his best to smile through how awkward it felt after wren said that. So he likes to read not just reading to study for his classes so if I run out of things to talk about before either me or him leaves I can just ask him about what books he likes Kierce looked around the library with his eyes looking at the higher shelves to see if there was anything he could add to his own reading.

Meanwhile on my head Cyprus began to move around more, I instinctively put my hand to the top of my head "You better not try to run off or attack the kid over here okay?" Kierce mumbled making sure to keep that last part a bit quieter your really an idiot talking to Cyprus you know she can't hear you, you can't even get that simple fact through your head I set Cyprus on my shoulder with the intent of letting her run across the shelves some time later when there was no one she could hurt around and I was lucky she barely noticed Wren or maybe she didn't care to much about him yet.

It felt like an eternity until Wren broke the awkward silence "She’s a very lovely spider you have, I um… don’t think I’ve ever seen one quite as big as her. To be fair though I’ve uh… only ever really seen small garden spiders, but um… does she have a name? I feel a little bad calling her just spider if she has one,” I could feel my eyes light up, if theirs anything that can get me talk it was spiders."Sorry I didn't tell you her name is Cyprus like the island country famous in Greek mythology. She's a European Harry Trapper, I believe they are a species that have only been found by wizards and they're about the size of a regulation baseball! They have venom but its non-toxic to humans so she's very safe... well as safe as a tarantula with a temper can be." this came out loud and enthusiastic like a three year old trying to explain their favorite thing in the world. I couldn't help but think maybe I came off to strong but all is fair in my love of spiders! Maybe Wren hadn't asked for that information but Kierce was happy to share his spider knowledge on spiders. Maybe I shouldn't have done that... What if he thinks I'm weird? Should I have just told him her name and asked what books he was reading? Did he think that I was just a nerd about spiders and I have no social life. Kierce inwardly chuckled at that last sentence in his mind because he was I nerd about spiders with no social life. I guess I am talking to someone right now so I guess maybe I have a "limited" social life. I was still restless, my foot was tapping the ground to a made up rhythm that was going probably drive me insane but who knows?

Wren felt very proud of himself for successfully continuing the conversation and it seemed to brighten Kierce up a bit which made him feel a bit better about the whole situation. He could certainly tell Kierce was very passionate about the subject and Wren could certainly understand, he would get the same way when he was also passionate about something. Even better, he learned a few things about spiders which, no matter the information, was a good thing in his book. He had always enjoyed learning about things, even small things. One always should be prepared for the unexpected, how else will you know what to do just in case one of those situations arises? He watched Kierce set Cyprus on his shoulder which allowed Wren to get a better look at the tarantula.

“Well um… it’s very nice to meet you as well Cyprus, you seem very lovely and sweet. Besides, most spiders only bite if they feel threatened or in danger so um… they generally don’t want to harm people unless they’re scared," he attempted to wave slightly but quickly fumbled with the books and decided perhaps if he didn’t want to drop all of them it was probably better not to. Wren didn’t really want to have to explain how he dropped and possibly wrecked the books to the Librarian. Situating himself slightly and shifting the books back so he had a better grip on them he looked back up at Kierce.

“Now that I think about it, I think I actually remember seeing a few spiders when I passed by the shop selling pets when I went to get school supplies. It’s um… super cool though that you know a lot about spiders or at least about Cyprus,” he rocked back and forth on his heels as he thought back to when he and his father when to Diagon Alley to get school supplies. He believed the shop with animals had been called the Magical Menagerie but he couldn’t quite remember. He had always wanted a pet but was always worried he wouldn’t have enough time or money to take care of one, he didn’t particularly want to overwhelm his father with the idea of a pet either. Well, perhaps one day he would get one but it certainly wasn’t any time soon.

“Like I said before though um…, I’ve only ever really interacted with garden spiders. They are usually pretty sweet though plus they help protect the plants which I appreciate." At this point, Wren was starting to ramble as he started studying and observing Cyprus, getting lost in his thoughts and not thinking about how much he was talking. “My dad isn’t a big fan when they get in the house but usually if I can safely get them back outside before he sees them it’s fine. I don’t really mind if they’re in the house but I’d rather him, not freak out.”

“Well um… it’s very nice to meet you as well Cyprus, you seem very lovely and sweet. Besides, most spiders only bite if they feel threatened or in danger so um… they generally don’t want to harm people unless they’re scared,". Kierce quietly added "Or if they are trying to protect something, like territory.". If Wren heard him Kierce couldn't tell but to be clear Kierce wasn't trying to have any malice towards Wren just adding on to his fact. Wren tried to give a wave which made the books move around. "You sure you don't want any help with those? I mean there's a table right around the corner" I muttered. He already said he didn't want help so along with being an idiot your also deaf? people say that your only truly honest in your own head so is this how I saw myself? Or was I just telling me the truth about myself? Sometimes I wish I knew how to understand myself and not just other people.

“Now that I think about it, I think I actually remember seeing a few spiders when I passed by the shop selling pets when I went to get school supplies. It’s um… super cool though that you know a lot about spiders or at least about Cyprus,”. Kierce nodded "yeah, it's called the magical Menagerie, Cyprus was there for a long while before I got her she's very defensive, she's also a prick when it comes to people that take care of her, she even hated the store owner when I first got her. Also how dare you assume I only know things about one species of spider, lad I'll have you know I'm spider obsessed". I tried his best to look offended as he said the last part. Cyprus turned toward Wren finally acknowledging that he was there. She didn't seem to care that much as long as Wren wasn't too close to her which to Kierce was a relief. I forgot how draining talking about myself was. I would much rather listen to someone talk about themselves instead of talking about myself. The good thing was that I was actually having an enjoyable conversation with someone with similar interests! so it wasn't the worst thing that ever happened.

“Like I said before though um…, I’ve only ever really interacted with garden spiders. They are usually pretty sweet though plus they help protect the plants which I appreciate.". Kierce nodded, most people had only ever seen smaller spiders so it made sense. I also noted that he kept bringing up a garden which could mean, his family owned a farm, he likes plants, or it could mean both. “My dad isn’t a big fan when they get in the house but usually if I can safely get them back outside before he sees them it’s fine. I don’t really mind if they’re in the house but I’d rather him, not freak out.”. Once again I nod "Spiders get a bad reputation and, I guess its understandable since they look scary, but they really do nothing to humans.". Kierce decided to change the topic " So what kind of books did you come here to read? Also do you think they have any classics, you know Grimms Fairytales or anything like that?". Kierce gave a smile one that he hoped didn't seem awkward cause it was an honest one.

Kierce had confirmed the name of the pet shop for him and told him more about Cyprus which Wren listened eagerly to. It appeared that his assumption about Kierce liking spiders had been correct and apparently that extended to all types of spiders. He noticed Cyprus turn in his direction, allowing him to get a better look at her. She was a very pretty spider. To be fair, Wren had always kinda thought they were kinda like puppies but with a bunch of eyes and legs and venom and… ok so they weren’t really anything like puppies but they were still kinda cute.

Wren nodded along to what Kierce said about spiders getting bad reputations and the like. As he has said before, he was kinda in charge of spider removal at his house and now thinking about it hoped his dad would be able to handle it if spiders got inside. Hopefully, everything would be fine but he supposed he would never know, his dad would definitely never mention if he had killed one so oh well. His attention returned to the conversation he heard Kierce ask about the books he was going to read and about if there would be any books like “Grimms Fairytales” or the like. He even saw the tall boy in front of him smile a bit which made Wren smile slightly.

“Oh well um… I’ll read just about anything but uh… right now I have a book on potions, a book on famous witches and wizards, and then I have “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” which is actually one of our school books. I have technically read through my own copy a number of times but I enjoy it so I thought why not read it again you know? I also wouldn’t mind seeing if I could find a book on magical plants but I think I'll save that for another day perhaps.” Books had always been a favorite subject of Wren’s so he would gladly share what he had planned on reading. Of course, there was the chance that he would go on and on about them so he would have to remember to not talk too much. He didn’t really want to bore Kierce or ruin the conversation.

“For the Grimms Fairytales though, I’m not sure if they would have it. I mean, I think it would be a pretty staple book in a library but then again this isn’t exactly the type of library i’m used to. I suppose though, even if they don’t, they probably have books that are similar to it. Or, at the very least, books on fairytales or myths of the wizarding world.” Wren had not thought about the library not having the book but the more he thought about it, he couldn’t help but wonder just how different the general selection of books and knowledge was. He obviously figured there would be a number of differences but the books that he believed to be a pretty staple in a library possibly wouldn’t be staple in the wizarding world.

“If you want um… I could help you look if you wanted. I mean uh… I don’t have to or anything I uh… wouldn’t want to bother you with it," his voice sort of trailed off as he said this, now looking at his feet to avoid any eye contact. He had been doing pretty well in the conversation up until this point but he knew his confidence wouldn’t last forever. He didn’t want to pressure Kierce or anything and especially didn’t want to seem pushy about it. "It uh… probably wouldn’t hurt for me to set these books on that table you mentioned though. I uh… would kinda feel bad if I dropped them.”

Wren nodded as Kierce talked about spiders and smiled when Kierce brought up books. Wren responded with “Oh well um… I’ll read just about anything but uh… right now I have a book on potions, a book on famous witches and wizards, and then I have “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” which is actually one of our school books. I have technically read through my own copy a number of times but I enjoy it so I thought why not read it again you know? I also wouldn’t mind seeing if I could find a book on magical plants but I think I'll save that for another day perhaps.”. He brightened up quickly. Kierce observed. " Those all sound like ace book choices. Well before I ran into you, still sorry about that lad, I was gonna read a book on The Dragons of Ireland. Don't you think its interesting how common myths are based on real things in the wizarding world? What if gods in different mythologies are just ancient wizards? What if everything in myths exist in the wizarding world?" I began to ramble towards the end, it had popped into my mind a couple times and I thought it was a really interesting thing most people didn't talk about."S-sorry about rambling." did Kierce ever mention he wasn't good at speaking for long periods of time?

“For the Grimms Fairytales though, I’m not sure if they would have it. I mean, I think it would be a pretty staple book in a library but then again this isn’t exactly the type of library i’m used to. I suppose though, even if they don’t, they probably have books that are similar to it. Or, at the very least, books on fairytales or myths of the wizarding world.”. I nod What would a wizarding fairytale be like? Would it be like a regular fairytale or would it include more I don't know "Wizarding stuff"? Really, "Wizarding stuff" you really sound like an idiot.. Kierce absentmindedly readjusted his glasses, lost in his thoughts. I snapped back to reality "It's weird thinking that a library like this probably doesn't have regular books. Or maybe they consider things we think of as regular books as irregular here so they don't stock them.". I can come to one conclusion though the wizarding world is confusing.

“If you want um… I could help you look if you wanted. I mean uh… I don’t have to or anything I uh… wouldn’t want to bother you with it,". Kierce had zoned out and once he finally realized what was said he replied " ...Yeah sure, as long as it doesn't interrupt anything you want to do. I can always do it in my own free-time though and there's an entire library to search so probably not right now.". Kierce thought that once again it had become awkward, but what could you do I mean it was truly Kierce's fault he just makes everything seem awkward half the time. "It uh… probably wouldn’t hurt for me to set these books on that table you mentioned though. I uh… would kinda feel bad if I dropped them.”. Kierce smiled "Yeah, like I said it's right around the corner. There's a bunch of tables and chairs. I wish I had some coffee right now". "Wait. I said that last part out loud didn't I?. I started to apologize sure that my face had flushed with embarresment. "Sorry I just blurted that out. I didn't mean to it just happens sometimes with me. Maybe because I talk to myself to much and I'm not used to talking to others". He started to slowly walk toward where the table was.

Wren listened intently, rather interested in the book Kierce was going to read. He had always found dragons to be rather interesting and to find out that they were actually real had definitely been crazy. He would certainly have to remember to add that book to his reading list. What Kierce said about the possibility of other myths and certain gods existing also got him thinking. It’s true that many myths had actually been confirmed by the wizarding world and there was still so much to learn about, it was both rather exciting and overwhelming at the same time.

He nodded about the idea that perhaps books he had to consider to be very common were perhaps not here, which was kinda sad because he couldn’t find books he knew but that also meant that there was plenty of new reading material for him. So many things were different here from what he had come to know, it was a lot to take in originally and it still was now. Things that were considered basic knowledge back home weren’t here, the education was very different, the literature was different, and so many other things. He didn’t mind it too much but it was very different which could be rather confusing.

Lost in thoughts, he almost hadn’t realized the air of awkwardness that surrounded them as Kierce answered his question of perhaps helping him look for the books. He hadn’t meant to make things awkward, he really only wanted to help. It’s not like he had anything else to do when he wasn’t in class or working on schoolwork. Luckily, Kierce had broken the silence and started guiding him to the table he had mentioned earlier, perhaps saying a bit more than he had meant to. Wren watched as the boy in front of him quickly tried to explain, which made him kinda feel bad.

“Hey, it’s uh… alright really, trust me I do it a lot too. I guess I’m uh… not really used to talking to other people either to be fair. I mean, besides like my dad but I don’t think he really counts.” As he did his best to keep up with Kierce, Wren did his best to give a comforting smile to him, slightly regretting saying the last part. Perhaps that had been too much information, he wasn’t sure. Yet again, another thing Wren had never been particularly good at realizing what was considered too much information. Oh well, it was too late to take it back now.
