As Opeila climbed on her horse, she was grateful for the potential shield it would serve as. Surely if she stayed close enough to it, it would be harder for her opponents to hit her? But then... she glanced downwards. Falling would also not be fun, that was certain.
As everyone started making their movements, Opeila would position herself next to her cousin Pericles.

Only when she was overseeing her team's and the other team's positioning, something seemed to hit her square in the chest, pressing the air out of her lungs with an audible gasp. The young fourth year's body stiffened and her eyes would turn white. The whole thing lasted a moment only, a harmless moment to the game.
A horrifying moment of fear and panic for Opeila. Even after she snapped out of the vision, the smell of fire was in her nose, the sound of screams engraved in her mind.

One moment was enough for her to lose her grip, quite literally. In the few seconds Opeila's grip on the horse loosened, causing the young Slytherin to slowly slide off the figure. Only when she was about to fall, her arms wrapped around it and she quickly pulled herself back into place.
What was that? Concerned she would look around, away from the game and instead search the audience for anything suspicious.

This was the second time she had a vision of Hogwarts burning and people screaming. She tightened her grip on the horse to stop her hands from trembling, but anyone who had kept an eye on her would probably have witnessed her vision. Automatically she began to search the audience for Flash. Was he there, had he seen what happened? Was there any way for her to let him know that something was wrong now?

Opeila drew a shaky breath. It was no use. She had to finish the first task for now and hope that no one would die now.

"Roger that, Captain," Serena responded to Howard's mimic and request to listen to the big man. Hugh had trained her over the past year to be able to handle anything, right? This was just chess. Though, chess did not scare her. It was what losing represented that scared her. Howard asked her not to show them any mercy. In truth, mercy was not something she had the benefit of showing today. Not to say she was going to be evil about things but losing was not an option. And this made showing mercy a luxury that she could not afford. Opening up the book, her eyes fell on the words on the page.

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”

She stared at the words, repeating them over in her mind once more. Before rereading them again. And again. And again. Be who she was... say what she felt... Her gaze turned over to glance at Hugh before looking around her teammates. In her mind, there was a single question - who mattered and who minded? It flooded far too many questions and thoughts in her mind, especially given her feelings about several people around. Though, perhaps, the bigger question was who was she and how did she feel? Right now, she felt angry. Angry at the world that shunned people like her, that made her feel afraid for being who she truly was. Her fingers gripped the edges of the book tightly as she exhaled and drew herself back to this moment. Either way, there was no time for this. She focused on what mattered right now - winning.

Around her, the games had started. It was time to make a move. Every single step and action she took would change the outcome of the game and more than that, it changed the course of the future. Today, on equal grounds, she might have been one of the only part-goblins to be in the tournament (she was unaware if there were others as she did not know who was playing for each of the teams) and this might have been the only chance she had to show that goblins were not inferior to anyone else.

She looked up, standing in F8 with her bishop robes and large hat. Her eyes flickered up to see Howard in his Rook attire in front of her. She had never really bothered to stop and notice the other people's outfits. Hers was not the only transformation. With a firm nod of her faith in him, she nodded to him as he made his move.

Taking a step diagonally, she moved from F8 to G7, taking a stand next to Dealla. She turned towards her. And in a rather serious voice, "A king without a sword is still a warrior and a king. But one without a shield is just a target," Serena cast intercession on King Dealla, adapting a quote by Robert Low to work for the occasion as she did a hand gesture as though she was blessing the Ravenclaw with her shield. An interesting aura appeared around her - a visible shield to protect her. It was definitely way prettier than Serena had expected, "Huh... I didn't expect that to work as well..." She muttered to herself before nodding as though she totally had it planned. Of course, she had meant to do that! Totally! Pushing her bishop hat up a little, she turned back to the front as she planned her next move.

A frown appeared on her face as she witness a teammate take a rather large hit. She almost rolled her eyes at some of the actions of her teammates but that was mostly because she was not on the best terms with them all right now... Sigh. Perhaps she needed to give them a chance. At the very least, for Howard's sake. She might not have cared about them but he did...

Oksana got the full blow from that white haired dude’s wrath. Thank Merlin it wasn’t him, otherwise he would’ve been dead by now. He was once face to face with that Hogwarts’ queen during last battle and his out of this world spell spread was admittedly not a joke. He could do the same thing, of course but even he could see that his spread wasn’t as good as that white haired guy. “You alright?” He’d ask his teammate out of… so that she’ll think he cared. The Hogwarts’ champion was hiding behind the two girls, one awfully short and the other looked a bit older. “Oi! Howard, was it? More like Coward. Why don’t you come out and move closer?” What a big mouth Rodion has. Hopefully this wouldn’t end up with him losing because that would be embarrassing.

The tension breaks in a flurry of motion. Kolya watches wide-eyed as two bursts of magic, light and dark, fly forth from either end of the board. In the same moment, Oksana rushes from beside him to defend their King as the bolt arcs. The boy is unable to suppress a wince at the sight of the dark energy slamming into her. Any satisfaction of watching the enemy Queen take a hit was tempered by the sight.

Readjusting his grip on the reins, Kolya tries to remember how it’s done in the movies. Giving a tentative nudge to the horse with his heels, the boy nearly topples from atop the massive steed as it lurches into motion toward his intended square. He quickly rebalances himself, playing off the near disaster as best he can. Closer now to the Hogwarts team, he examines the ominous team in black a little closer. He tightens his grip upon his lance and takes a deep breath.

For now it was a stalemate, a combatant on each side was hit before the first round of moving had ended. Howard's praise of his insult to the opposite was like a green light to go even further, something he was more than willing to carry out. He was sure his parents who were also keen readers of the daily prophet were probably not going to be happy seeing a picture holding his middle finger up to the opposite team. Thankfully, Percival had one hell of a reason, especially for one of the teams they were up against.

Looking beside him, he returned a brief nod to Bloom and looked over to the opposing player who got hit. If something was going to help them, getting into the opposing team's heads was one of them "Hey kid! why don't you give up before the press snap pictures of you sleeping on the chess board!" he shouted over to her with an emotionless face "Save yourself the embarrassment of being a laughing stock for your school..."

Alan would note the fact that @George Henry was not waving back at him or even showing any kind of notice to his wave with confusion. Perhaps he had not seen the wave? Though the fifth year kind of doubted that, after all George had been staring at him this entire time. Perhaps he had blinked in that exact moment? Alan shook his head, acknowledging he would have to talk to the badger urgently after this match, however now he should keep his focus on the game, however hard that may be at the current moment. He was however quite excited and confident into their school and it would likely be the only tournament that would allow him to fight alongside Howard and Dee, as well as some other friends of his, which would make this a unique and quite memorable experience that he was looking forward to.

Alan had moved and conjured up a shield around Peri, which frankly didn't do much but enough to help out a little bit. He would have to do better, try harder and make sure that all of them would be alright at the end of this combat, which he had no doubt they would be. Alone by age it looked like they were doing much better than the other school and the difference in experience might show quite quickly. Though he had no doubt that Koldo-something was a team of capable witches and wizards who would make this quite interesting. They at least weren't going down without a fight.

So, far the chess game had been rather uneventful. Kamila knew it would get more interesting, and besides it was better for it to be a boring game than an interesting one with Hogwarts in the lead. Of course, Hogwarts being in the lead would never happen, Koldovstoretz was too good of a school to let that happen.

"Afraid I can only report the truth either way," Dee called back to Rodion, grinning. "Journalist's honour." Or something like that, anyway. "Although giving up might be the wiser choice here? I'd credit you with that."

With everyone transformed and decked out in fancy clothing, black and ominous or pristine and white, respectively, the game was set to start, and Dee gave Howard a mock salute and the flash of a smile before raising her arms to cast one of her role's special abilities - Regal Aura. Of course, she always had one, but it in this case, it turned visible, streaming out from her as a violet fog. It curled around her shape, then flooded further to envelop those close to her, and Dee watched in curiosity. Fancy, this whole event.

But then, she wasn't the only person on the board, if obviously one of the most important. Next to her, Peri had sent a crashing blast of power at the opposing Queen and King, and was hit by an attack in return. She winced. That looked painful. They were used to that part, though, it wasn't too different from duels, although there were a lot more players at work here.

On her other side, Serena had turned towards her, and Dee blinked blankly at the quote, not recognising it. She did, however, appreciate the shimmering shield that followed the words. "Oooh," she made, admiring the glowing aura, sharp and angled, that formed around her, a visible protection. Oooh, shiny things. "That's so cool! Thanks, Serena." Beyond being pretty, she was also thankful for the buffer it would provide. She didn't plan on being hit, but she also wasn't sure how many blasts like the one Peri had just faced she could withstand before being carted off the board. She flashed the Hufflepuff girl a quick grin. "I hope the purple fog of doom also helps you a bit."

Actions first, movement next, and Dee walked forward and to the left, which extended the reach of her aura to include Howard, Bloom, and Percival. It also left Peri frightfully exposed, however, the smoke dissipating before it could reach her friend and former co-captain. Not optimal, that was. "Peri, you're faster than that!" she called, somewhere between useless advice and friendly teasing, reminiscent of their time shared on the duelling piste.

XXXAs the game began--truly began--Fedya couldn't help but scan the surrounding area. The students around him, the teammates he so well understood and knew by now. He had fought with (some of) them valiantly during the broom race against Ilvermorny months before, and he had fought with them mentally coming back to Hogwarts time after time after time.

As pathetic as it was, Fedya couldn't help the shiver of fear, almost, that shot up his spine as he considered the implications. A large group of Koldovstoretz students, back at Hogwarts for an event. Surrounded by the jovial members of the very school that had gotten their very own friends killed.

Fedya fumbled with the book that he held in his hands, wrinkling his nose slightly as they moved. The Koldov students stood in a cluster, safe with the protection of the others. All together, all as one.
