Funny running into you here!
It was a bright November morning, the beginning of the week. Klaus was on his way to the Owlery, a letter addressed to his mother in hand. It was starting to get even chillier as the year aged, and he was bundled tightly with a green and silver Slytherin scarf that was tucked into his robes. He was wearing gloves, too, that had been knit with a Warming Spell by his grandmother. He was six-hundred miles north of home, anyway. The air was crisp and it burned on the breathe in, but he was managing. The sky was orange with hints of sunrise still lingering above him.
As Klaus made his way to the Owlery, he spotted a familiar face. Finally! It was nice to see someone that he recognized. He saw a figure of another student, but he could tell by (what he could see of) her face that it was Dora Everridge. He'd known her for her Uncle Harris, a charismatic fellow that was a good friend of his mother. When the families spent time together, the two would play, especially when they were younger. Well, Klaus doesn't play anymore. That's for kids! And he was very grown up now, thank you very much.
He continued walking to the Owlery, at a brisker pace than before. Partially because he was freezing, but partially because he was excited to see his old friend.
"Dora!" he called out, a smile dancing across his face. He waved widely, his whole arm moving in a motion like wiping a window. "Hey!"

"Dora! Hey!"
Dora turns around quickly, startled at her name being called with such familiarity. Only her Uncle Harris calls her Dora. She sees a boy waving enthusiastically, and she recognizes the tawny hair and light green eyes.
"Klaus Fernsby."
Klaus's mother and Dora's Uncle Harris are friends, and she remembers the Fernsby's coming over to the Everridge manor once or twice when she was younger. As the grown-ups socialized, they would leave Klaus, Dora, and her younger cousin Bradley to play together. Of course, Dora was never that social, even at such a young age. It's a wonder Klaus still remembers her.
"How do you do?" She greets politely, "I didn't know you were attending Hogwarts this year. My Uncle didn't mention it."
Dora notices the green and silver scarf around his neck. Slytherin colors. She swallows thickly, remembering something her grandmother said a long time ago.
"Take Klaus Fernsby, for instance. Only three years of age when he first used magic! He will surely make a great heir to the Fernsby estate. Why can't you be more like him?"
And now, as if proving Dora's grandmother right, here is Klaus wearing Slytherin colors, the House that every Everridge before Dora was sorted into. She knows she shouldn't resent him for it. Perhaps if she had been better, or if both of her parents had been wizards, she would be in Slytherin with him.

Since we're establishing backstory together, let me know if I write anything that goes against Klaus' character or history. I'll change it immediately.
And if you have a color code for your dialogue, let me know that too. I'll use green for now since you're a Slytherin and have green eyes.

"I didn't know you were attending, either," said Klaus, with a smile on his face. He knew the two were close in age, but it just slipped his mind–all of the excitement of getting to Hogwarts, being Sorted, surprising his parents with a Slytherin son and not a Ravenclaw one, he must have forgotten. He didn't see her on the Hogwarts Express, either. It wasn't unlike Klaus to forget big things, either way. Moving his fringe from his eyes, he continued walking until the two of them were side-by-side. Oh, how they had both grown! Klaus hadn't seen Dora in a long time. He was only slightly taller than she.
A twinkle seemed to return to his eyes. "I'm doing great, how are you?"
He was clutching an envelope in his right hand, while he twisted and spun his wand around in his left. It was a soft color, very light. Willow. He had gone with his parents to buy his wand in the spring before his first semester at Hogwarts, and he had kept it proudly displayed in his bedroom before he had to pack it for school.
The sun began hiding under a cloud, making the air even colder, causing a flush in his cheeks. Klaus shuddered, "I didn't realize Scotland would be this cold!"

Interacting with @Klaus Fernsby"I'm doing fine, thank you." It's a bit of a lie, though. Sending a letter back home is always accompanied by a pit of dread in Dora's stomach, wondering how it will be received. 'All the better to keep that to myself.' She thinks, observing Klaus' cheery disposition. It'd be a shame to ruin his mood.
"I didn't realize Scotland would be this cold!" Klaus exclaims, shivering.
Dora shrugs. She likes the cold, the chill in the air and brisk winds. It's never bothered her that much. Her biggest concern in winter would always be if the stray black cat was too cold, but no matter how much it snowed, little Epi would always return to the graveyard just fine. Maybe the cat had a little refuge somewhere, hidden away from the world. Dora wishes she had something like that.
"How is your mother?" She inquires when it seems Klaus wishes to keep conversing. Why he does, she doesn't know. He's acting as if they're old friends when Dora is sure she couldn't have made that much of an impression. It was the Fernsby's who were impressive to Dora. Klaus' mother, Adeline, is a brilliant musician. Dora remembers once she played along with grandfather, who insisted on a violin duet. It was one of the happiest and lucid moments Dora remembers of him.

From their previous interactions, Klaus knew that the Everridge girl was stoic. Still, he kept his sunshine-y demeanor–maybe he didn't realize that he was subconsciously trying to make his mood spread to her. He thought of her family, her grandmother being rather strict. When he went to the Everridge manor, he was expected to be on his best behavior (and he was!), but when Dora and her Uncle Harris visited Tampledown, he could be more relaxed. However, she never seemed to. It was like she was a perfect ambassador for her family. He remembered her cousin, Bradley, and while the two spent time together when the Everridges visited, he always got a strange feeling about him. He wondered if Bradley was at Hogwarts, too.
To tell the truth, Klaus was having a difficult time at Hogwarts. He was getting lost everyday, he was misplacing his things, and he hadn't really made any friends. He spoke to one girl in his House, but she seemingly transferred right away. And he felt shy in class and didn't speak to his desk-mates, but at least he knew Dora. That was, basically, a built-in friend. Not wanting to seem lonely, he stretched and pocketed his wand that he had been playing with, trying to look as casual as possible.
"My mother is great!" replied Klaus, holding up the letter in his hand. "I'm writing to her now. My father's off in Ghana right now, doing some research on..." His eyes scanned the cloudy sky as if the answer was hidden up there. "Oh! Research on indigenous Wizarding practices."
"I think my mum's a bit lonely, though," he said, "it's the first time I've been apart from her this long, and my father's out of the country, so I've been trying to write to her as much as I can."
"What are you up to, sending a letter, too?" asked Klaus, trying again to seem casual. Without having siblings, or being around many other kids his age, he often struggled with seeming "normal." Still, he was overly excited to see a familiar face. He didn't want to scare her off.

Interacting with @Klaus FernsbyDora listens to Klaus, interested by what he mentions of his father. "Indigenous wizarding practices in Ghana?" She replies, thinking it a fascinating subject. It must be amazing to travel all over the world and learn about different customs. She's heard of a wizarding school in Africa, but doesn't know much of it. It's not one of the competing teams in the Hexwizard Tournament this year, at least. "Have you ever accompanied your father on his travels?" She asks curiously. Dora once asked her mother if she could travel with her, but her mother had said she was too young. 'Maybe next year, Dovey.'
"I think my mum's a bit lonely, though. It's the first time I've been apart from her this long, and my father's out of the country, so I've been trying to write to her as much as I can."
Her heart twists when she hears this. Klaus really is the best son the Fernsby's could hope for. He's so considerate to write his mum often just to cheer her up. And, maybe Dora's imagining it, but Klaus seems a bit off. Perhaps he misses his parents? Or, she could just be misreading things.
"What are you up to, sending a letter, too?"
Oh, right. Dora pulls the sealed envelope out of her cloak pocket, the black wax seal of an E stamping it shut. She'd been working up the courage to post it. "Yes, I'm also writing home." She replies, trying not to show her nerves.
