Tales of a Dhampir & a Part-Veela

What was she even thinking? Going to the West Tower at this time, sneaking to it while everyone was hurrying out of the Great Hall from dinner to do whatever they needed to do before curfew. The previous day a boy, a fellow Hufflepuff, had discovered her veela heritage! She still wasn't hurt how that was possible, well her hair dye did come off. But it was something different...her alluring aura was becoming more noticeable perhaps? Since then, she had reapplied the brown dye to her roots to give the appearance of a fake blonde. Daphne knew that this would happen eventually, just not as soon as this. She wore her usual casual sweatsuit, but it did little to truly keep her warm considering the fact there were no windows in the Owlery. And it was fall as well.. After making sure nobody was in the first floor, she quietly made her way upstairs to the final level. It didn't smell so much like owls here on this terrace and she was able to take a seat, pressing her knees against her chest. Daphne didn't even feel like crying, she was just so..confused. It felt wrong keeping it a secret, sure, but she just wasn't ready to reveal it yet. Not until later years at least, she needed people to know the real her. Not become entranced and attracted to talk to her just because of her dang species!

Tales of a Dhampir & a Part-Veela

Hopefully not startling @Daphne Sapphirus too much
Little did she know that there was someone already up in the Owlery. Simon Kincaid had skipped out early from supper to venture up to The Owlery. This was becoming a place he often visited, not for the peace and quiet, and not for the company of owls, but rather to check to see if a letter didn't fall by the wayside.
He had written a rather angry letter to his father on August 28th, just days before the new school year began and he was a little frightened that he had gone too far. Maybe the disrespect caused his father to no longer want anything to do with him. Maybe it wasn't worth the time nor the energy. Maybe upon meeting him, his father declared him nothing and there was no need for further contact nor communication.
No letter.
Just as nearly all the other times. Simon wanted to kick the wall but he knew it wouldn't do any good. It would only cause him pain or startle the owls and they hadn't done any harm or wrongdoing to them. With a sigh he stepped out to the doorway where he saw a rock.
Still, that frustration was there and something had to pay for it. Leaning down he picked it up and he heaved the stone as far as he could onto the empty grounds below shouting "I HATE YOU!," as he did so. He watched it as far as he could see and and then placed his hand into his pocket and leaned against that doorframe, not liking himself in that moment. Hate was a pretty strong word and he didn't even know the man.
He closed his eyes, allowing himself to steady is breaths and when he opened his eyes, he saw a girl there sitting along the edge of the terrace. How long had she been there? Surely long enough. If she had just come up, she would have had to pass by him. "...Sorry about that," he said softly, feeling rather foolish.

Tales of a Dhampir & a Part-Veela

A yelp escaped from Daphne's lips, a look of pure terror on her face as she heard the boy yell. He must've been real upset about something, possibly letter related? She had been so worked up in her thoughts that she hadn't seen him prior to this; it was like her mind had somehow blocked him out. Daphne took in a few deep breaths, forcing herself to settle down and not embaress herself. She wasn't supposed to be here in the first place, well they weren't. But seeming he looked to be an older year, Daphne still had no right to tell him anything. "No, no! It's fine..I just didn't see you. I'm sorry, I didn't know this spot was taken or that anyone else was here." She then looked towards the direction where he threw the stone out onto the rocks. "Are you alright? Not to intrude but you don't sound very happy." Daphne continued to sit, balling herself up some more to get as much warmth as possible. "I won't tell anyone you're here if you won't tell anyone I am." She said with a forced smile on her face. She couldn't be seen upset, that would lead to questions and questions would lead to her having to confess her species.

Sitting down next to @Daphne Sapphirus for a talk
The yelp made him feel even more foolish, and it was what helped grab his attention that someone was there with him. He looked to her apologetically because no one needed to bear witness to his temper - especially someone he was just meeting. How foolish was he to be screaming into the Scottish Highlands and casting rocks at no one? She probably thought very low of him and had every right to do so.
"The Owlery is big enough for the two of us .... and all the owls," he added as he flashed a smile, trying to give off a calmer demeanor than just moments before. He didn't want anyone to ever be afraid of him and honestly, there was no reason to.
She asked how he was and then talked about being up there and keeping the secret of their trespassing. Students were allowed up in the Owlery, just not after curfew as anywhere and Simon glanced to the watch on his wrist. Nope, still good - at least for a little bit. "It's not past curfew yet, and worry not, you're invincible at the moment. If we stay out too late, you were just helping me with prefect duties, right?" he said and smiled again as this time he came and sat down beside her, hoping she'd be comfortable with that.
"And I'm okay, I'm just....so damned frustrated," he answered, his voice low because it wasn't the easiest to talk about. "I've been waiting on a reply to a letter and honestly, I'm not sure it's one I'm going to get a response to. It's been months since I wrote. Nearly two."
And Simon looked over to her and attempted to study the situation. Obviously something was wrong. One didn't come to the Owlery just to sit on a chilly evening all balled up by themselves for no reason. He'd pry, and see if he could get any information from her. Maybe he could help. "What brings you up here?"

"It's not? I must've rushed to get here so fast that I forgot about the time." Daphne said which was followed by a smile, the girl now feeling more at ease. "Prefect duties...yes!" Her body relaxed and she went back to leaning against the wall, not minding that Simon sat beside her. "I am sure they will write back...I haven't sent a true letter to my parents since I've been here. They send me things all the time but I just don't know what to write except the usual thanks and 'I'm doing good'. But that's not the problem.." She bounced one of her feet against the ground, debating on whether or not she should tell Simon. He was not only in Hufflepuff, but a prefect, and if she lied she doubted that he wouldn't see her around the common room stressing some day. She needed to get it off her chest, lying never made her feel good. "I..Well, yesterday was just so..weird! I fell asleep by the Great Lake and when I woke up, I was soaking wet! So I ran inside and someone found me...he wasn't a bully or anything but he...this stranger knew me." Daphne explained, taking pauses every now and then so that she wouldn't burst into tears. "He knew what I was...I never saw him before but he could tell that I-I wasn't human." She whimpered. "My mother's a Veela and I see the effect she has on others...he must've sensed my aura too. The complete opposite of what I wanted to happen!"

Tales of a Dhampir & a Part-Veela

Attempting to comfort @Daphne Sapphirus
When she first began her story, mentioning about someone finding her, he was a little concerned but that concerned was eased when she said that it wasn't a bully. That made Simon feel better, but then she said htat the stranger knew her. Knew her? Stalking her? But then she went on to explain that he knew what she was, that she wasn't human. Simon couldn't help it and immediately looked over to her, focusing on her facial features to wonder what that 'wasn't human' meant. Was it pointed ears and short stature of a goblin? No. Larger pupils from this lower light in the Owlery and pale complexion of a dhampir? No. Daphne Sapphirius was a pretty girl and none of her features gave her away as they were all quite perfect and then he realized - oh. He had caught it just as she admitted to her mother being a veela.
Was being a veela so bad, he wondered? Surely it bothered this girl that others knew that about her and he found it rather endearing that she would share this information with him. He didn't like that it frustrated her and hoped that perhaps he could offer some help.
"You know, veelas, other than their temper, don't really harbor too much ill will toward others, correct? Treat one well and all is fine?" he really didn't know. Honestly, his research to halfbreeds was mostly on a little knowledge of werewolves and a lot of knowledge on dhampirs.
"But it does seem to bother you and you know, you might be half of that," he wouldn't say the word again because he didn't want her focusing too much on it, "but you're also half human, are you not? Can't you focus on the good traits that your mother has provided you with and combine just that with what your father has given you? You're the person that you want to be... You're, you. You're...." he paused, because he didn't know her name. "...What is your name?" he said with a small smile.

Tales of a Dhampir & a Part-Veela

"Well...yeah, that is true. Although my mother is rather...hotheaded to say the least. She's sweet with us but I've seen what happens when she gets riled up to say the least. She's from Bulgaria and she's always been open with how her people are. Don't get me wrong, I love the culture, and there's beauty in the community but as I grow older, I get...changes." Daphne tried her best to explain it in a way that would make sense. She didn't want to sound privileged or a brat for complaining about being part-Veela, after all other halfbreeds had it worse. "Now I know that others have it worse than me, I promise that I know being half-Veela isn't the end of the world but...this puberty stuff really is getting the best of me. I am half human but it just seems like my mother's side is...advancing more. A bit before Hogwarts, people started looking at me different, treating me with more..leniency if I got in trouble.. It was like they were viewing me like I'm a puppy in distress-it felt like I was entrancing them. My brothers can already charm others do literally do their bidding and that's not what I want for myself! It's...it's wrong. It feels like I'm a siren, I never know if people like me for me or if it's this...weird Veela aura affecting them! If I could actually control it I wouldn't care that much!" She rose her voice, looking pretty angry as she spoke. Good thing she didn't develop her Veela scream yet. "...Sorry, sorry. I'm Daphne. I'm probably just repeating myself, I know I can't hide forever but..until I get this thing under control I have too. I'm sure it'll stop in a couple of years or something, whatever it's called. Veela puberty or changes? At least I won't go feathers-I think."

Formal introductions with @Daphne Sapphirus
Simon knew exactly what she was thinking and he could relate to it like none other. Did he share that? He usually wasn't so forthcoming with it all and yet, maybe it would make her feel better to know that she wasn't alone. Could he trust her with such knowledge? He had just met her. Then again, she had trusted him with her reveal and she was a fellow Hufflepuff - that all had to mean something.
"I can relate - with the changes and all and worrying that it'll take over. To be so complacent with one's human half and worry how the other part of you will affect you and others as you develop it more. If it's any ease, I feel I came to talk to you because it looked like you could use a friend, nothing more."
He went and held his hand out to her, to offer up a handshake and a formal sort of greeting since she introduced herself now. "Pleasure to meet you, Daphne, half human and half figuring out your veela-self. I'm Simon. Simon Kincaid, half human and half figuring out my dhampir self."
This was his third year, and for him, that's when the biggest changes for a dhampir began to take place - with the adult fangs and the unsettling aura. It was a lot to navigate.

Tales of a Dhampir & a Part-Veela

"Oh! Well that really is comforting to hear, as a first year I feel like I don't have many friends. Moreso just acquaintances, but we both have so many years to go! I know that one day I'll be more comfortable with my heritage, I know it won't go away but at this age everything is weird right now." After she had said that, Daphne shook his hand, nodding to him when he said his name. "It's real nice to meet you Simon! I-wait, you're a dhampir? Really??" She gasped and moved closer to him, accidentally squeezing his hand a bit hard. "Vampires are so cool! Dhampirs too! I hear so many cool stories-I think fangs would suit you!" Even after he admitted being a half-breed too, she didn't exactly feel unsettling or odd. Daphne then let go of his hand, covering her mouth in shock. "Actually, I'm so sorry! You- you're figuring yourself out just like me despite our difference in species. I probably shouldn't be saying things that you might be self-conscious about.." She said sympathetically. "It must be a struggle too, huh? There's a lot of stereotypes about anyone with vampire in them but I know it's not true."

Kindred spirits with @Daphne Sapphirus
"I struggle with all of it, actually, but it's cool. I take it a day at a time," he said and smiled to her, trying to show there was no hard feelings and certainly no reason to apologize. It was true. While some days seemed a little more overwhelming than others, it was part of who he was - now and before, and always. He couldn't change it, so he just had to deal with it. It would be the same with her and her veela-ness.
"Can you talk to any family about it? That's sort of my plan for an approach. I didn't really know my father's identity until two Summers ago and we've been slowly, very slowly, building up a relationship. I think it'll help me to know about him, about half of who I am."
Although, his girlfriend AngelFyre McCubbin had some sort of premonition about his father and they had all been bad. He himself had said that his father made him feel "unsettling." Maybe these were all signs he needed to be paying closer attention to.
"I'm glad I ran into you tonight, Daphne," he said truthfully. "It's nice to know I'm not alone in this struggle to not only grow up but to find acceptance in what I am." He leaned in to gently bump his shoulder into hers.
