Hexwizard Task 1: Hogwarts v Koldovstoretz

After watching almost everyone else walk onto the chess board and transform into their armor, Irina did so for herself. White clad armor surrounded her as she mounted onto her horse. Irina was a knight and thus was able to see the entire board from her height. The armor and attire for this task was the only thing in Irina’s mind that Hogwarts had done right. It was gorgeous and made her confidence sprout right up. Her and the rest of her team would win, because they had the confidence and drive to. Irina needed to win, not only to defeat Hogwarts, but also to commemorate the 17 classmates who lost their lives more than a year ago. She was playing for them and their memory. Therefore, there was no way she could even think about losing. She had to win and was ready to do anything necessary to make sure she did.

XXX”Oh, you are kidding me,” Fedya wrinkled his nose at his attire, holding the book aloft. Was this punishment for his being the final team member to step onto the board? Seriously?

It wasn’t ugly, at least. Fedya would soon admit that it was quite stylish, but its protective qualities could be boiled down to simply ‘bleh’ and when compared to the lances and horses at his sides, he couldn’t help but groan.

A big baby? Perhaps. A founded reaction? Most certainly.

Fedya turned his attention to Irina, who sat to his left on a high horse. ”Is this… the idea of a joke?” He called teasingly, gesturing to his attire, before turning back to the board, ready to play.

As Alan would step onto the chess board, he would feel his clothes start to transform and instead of his somewhat casual yet handsome attire, he was instead clad in a dark robe with some ornaments around the hems of his collar and cuffs. In his hand he would suddenly hold a plain black book, again with similar ornaments and he would try to peek inside of it. Alan would also notice that George was standing next to Alec in the spectator area and was a bit confused about their closeness. George hadn't been very appreciative of being close to people, he didn't even hug Alan anymore. Well at the ball they did interlock arms to walk around, but that seemed to be more about appearance... right? Alan hoped he wouldn't be embarrassing himself during this tournament, with George and many others watching he had to impress people. After all they represented the school and George wouldn't let him live it down if he did something stupid and knowing Dee, neither would she. But at least they were sitting in the same boat this time instead of facing one another in the duelling ranks. Dee would give a silly but pretty smug speech, making him snicker as he nodded at Howard "Back to you," he responded as he picked at his outfit, he wished he could change it, but it was part of the competition so he wouldn't complain. Instead he would turn to the spectators one more time, quickly spotting George in the crowd and waved to him with a stupid grin on his face. Oblivious to the badger's irrational worries.

Action: As strategized

The chess game was to begin soon. Kamila was quite excited. She hoped her team would win. The Koldovstoretz team would most likely win, but there was a small possibility that would not happen.

It was a bit disappointing that chess didn't involve any wand work. Duelling was Kamila's favorite type of competition.

Queens

Queen @Pericles Dralt, ruler of the darkest realms of the chessboard, wearer of the laciest of dresses would emerge from the darkness. He made a lovely, somewhat intimidating queen. "I believe black is my color," it indeed was. "Though I'm not so certain lace is my fabric," we can agree to disagree. He would be relieved to know he was not in stilettos, a mobility nightmare but an additional weapon. They were kind enough as to give the queen combat boots, "at least I haven't been put in heels." Periqueen would move to D8.

Queen Rosella (@Logan Baird), would enter the board and find herself in silk and lace, a grand dress that made her look like a princess bride more than a champion's ally. She was all that glittered as she stepped onto the board. Her counterpart, the dark queen sadly rocked his gown. Hopefully she was on par.

Knights

"Here goes nothing." @Bloom Silverton would climb onto the back of that black horse and be transformed into a Dark Knight, sans the Batman theme music. Donning gleaming black armor, the self-proclaimed "bad-ass" would get a good look at the rest of their team. They were all "bad asses" weren't they. The dark, somewhat menacing wisps of smoke had hanged them for the better. Lance in hand, yah! she would make her way across the board to G8.

Nikolai Ryzhkov (@Avery McCall) would find himself climbing onto the back of a gallant white horse. The obvious dichotomy of good versus evil seemed to play out on the board. He would find himself immediately across from an enemy knight lad in pure darkness. The visage of pure evil facing him, where he looked like he was ready to save a damsel from a tower. A tower that Bloom or Serena was defending. Koyla would hear his name shouted from the stands, he was their hero.

"We've got this," Koyla's tiny voice would declare.

A subtle thumbs up for the most popular guy in this thread. Oddly enough, George Henry who was not even represented on either team. Well, no-matter whoever wins George will have someone to celebrate with.

@Opeila Winters would find herself climb onto the back of a great, dark horse. Clad in dark armor, the crowds would cheer her on. She had a lot on her mind, from the near death experience both her and Dealla almost shared. She had a mysterious pen pal also, it seemed innocent enough. Wishing her luck. Maybe also sending her gifts.

She was 'safe' here, on the checkered board in front of the entire world or so she might erroneously believe. She was not as prepared as she might have thought. In fact, a vision would overtake her (Seer ability) and she would see a pillar of flames, she would hear screams and smell burning oak and hoking black smoke. The image, but a flash, like a photograph that would be there and then gone in the blink of an eye. What could she do if anything? A fire? Where? How? Why does every Hogwarts event involve fire!

Irina Afanasyeva (@Lavinia Cloven) would step onto the chess board, it being a more somber occasion for the girl. Hogwarts was not a place of good memories for her, what she remembered was what she lost. What all of them lost over a year ago during the Blossom Ball when an at of terror took the lives of 17 members of their school - their friends and family. A senseless at of aggression that was believed to have been perpetuated by SCAR, a terrorist organization that threatened the safety of the wizarding world.

Maybe next year, if this game is played again it would be in Mother Russia.

Rooks

Maksim Levin (@Monica Evans) would take his place on the board. Stepping onto the back of a chariot lad in white armor. They would make his debut on the back of a white horse. It was like he was a character from one of those stories he would read about as a child. About the shining hero facing off against a black knight. The books never said that those knights were girls, but he probably never asked either.

A metaphorical cold hose was needed as @Percival Grey found himself clad in dark leather armor. For others, there might be a couple of boys that discovered why they still thought girls were icky. Like it or not, the media was going to make more money selling the images of Pervical holding those dark reigns on posters than in newspapers.

Percival's general misery and distain was contrasted by Rodion's statement of luck to his teammates Ro and Freya. удачи, ребята Good luck guys. and Oksana Vasilieva (@Faye Simmons) who was playing up the paparazzi. "No, stop it! Please!" The media was eating it up. The contrast was obvious and the entire world count see it -- Hogwarts, the school of monsters and un-sportsmanship behavior.

She would eventually have to tear herself away from her fans and actually play the game. She would step onto the board and a transformation would overtake her. A grand, white chariot driven by a hearty, pure white horse. She would feel the safety of the leather armor she now donned, clean, white armor. She was like some storybook elf, she only needed a longbow and pointed ears to complete ensemble.

The champion @Howard White would find himself clad in leather armor, much to the audience's excitement. A flash of cameras, the boy was going to be a centerfold in wizarding ladies monthly. It is only smut when the magazines are for men. Black really was the dhampir's color and society's fetishism of leather was honestly concerning, the boy looked downright dangerous. His claws better weapons than the lance in his girlfriend's hand. Wicked!" He exclaimed, even if he would need a can opener to give his girlfriend a kiss. Teenage hormones aside, once they had gotten over the temporary distraction that was one another they would spring into action.

Let's go!" As good a war cry as any from Howard.

Bishops

@Serena Towers was unprepared for the transformation. She became a holy-woman, at least for today. Sister, not Mother Towers was here with her best bashing book and a snazzy new hat. It suited her strangely enough as her gaze eft the board and fell to the crowd. @Hugh Lowe stood out, mostly because he was as tall as most standing when sitting. He was there to cheer the team on and she gave the part giant a salute.

"That's right, Towers," @Howard White mimicked the part giant's roar. "Listen to the big man, show no mercy!

Things were a bit better when with friends. She was not strong because she had to be, but because she could. The vigorous support of her friends, her peers and even strangers domestic and abroad were holding her up. She opened up her book, and when she did she would read words of encouragement on the page.

Serena, the half-blooded wizard, part-Goblin. Serena the former beater. Serena the broom racer. Future maker, be it as an artist or as an inventor, it was her future to determine with the infinity of possibilities born from her potential. Serena would move to F8.

”Oh, you are kidding me,” Fyodor Sapozhnik (Maggie Hawkins) was not as thrilled with his transformation as Serena was. He was not felling taller or stronger, he was feeling envious. where others had leather and plate, rode on back of or behind horses, he was sent to the library in his pajamas. ”Is this… the idea of a joke? Maybe, there is this one about a priest that walks into the bar... They say "ow" and rubs their head. Hilarious? Yes, of course it is!

@Alan Vanes was too busy being jealous of @George Henry to truly appreciate the transformation he had already underwent. A holy man, when Alan was anything but. He would take a peek into the book in his hands:




What is this fortune cookie crap? Why wasn't George hugging him! While taking note that the entire world was watching, Alan would mentally note George in particular no less than five times.

Kamilia Yavlinsky (@Marina Oriel) would make her way onto the board and she would transform into a white priest. Concerned more about her lack of wand, she might be distressed to realize she is no longer holding her wand but instead a rather large book.

King

The darkness would overtake @Dealla Prince, even as she tried to step back from the board. While harmless, the girl had learned the dangerous of the dark. The threat of the unknown, no matter how pristine, calm and sweet the air. Yet no harm would come to her this time as the darkness would recede and she would find herself clothed in truly regal attire. Her queen, a tad scary but we can't call marry for love now can we!

With a twirl, her fur-lined cloak would swish about her and her crown would remain firmly attached to the top of her head. King D as her loyal subjects would know her was a sight to behold. "Oh, awesome," amazingly uninjured. "I hope someone's taking pictures," yes they most certainly were. the blinding flash of bulbs accompanied hers as well as everyone else's transformation - the media unsatiable in spite the banquet of additional, new content.

She was not the most durable King to step foot on this board, not just ever but even just today. However, there was something about Serena (her Paragon of Health) that made her feel perhaps a bit safer, healthier or sturdier.

She was not particularly intimidated by their King, Rodion as she looked across the board at the younger boy. "Ready to give up yet?" the duellist called out to the Koldovstoretz student. The lyrical tone would probably not last long once the game got started. "Think about it, there's still some time," but there really was not. He was already there, on the board on front of the waatching world. "No guarantees what's going to happen if you don't," Well, that sounded ominous.

Opposite was Rodion Makarovich (@Aurora Ranvier), dressed as the white King. A grand sight. He looked if nothing else... clean in his white tunic and fur-trimmed cloak. His angelic appearance betrayed by his sentiments. It was uncomfortable being the center of attention, having all eyes not only on them but recording them. His whole school was counting on him to succeed and he did not want to let him down but he would see himself against an insurmountable challenge. A school that had been historically favored, on their home turf and comprised of older students. What choice did he have?

He was not going to back down. “If no, will you write a better article about me in your wholesome school paper?”. A better sport than the rest of the opposing team.

This was not going to be an easy match, but he had his friends. He had Irina who made him feel better, stronger even (Paragon of Health). He could do this, he could do anything as long as his friends were at his side.

The announcer would talk about each of the champions, their school and their respective team. How far they had gone and the hopes that they would have for a brighter tomorrow that starts with their victory here today.

Rapid Defenses

Howard White would rush in front of Serena Towers, using Rapid Defense to drive his monster of a horse in front of the part Goblin. The clatter of wheels and the rattle of the carriage, the living barrier would move just adjacent to the girl. There was always something intangible about Serena, this safety and sense of comfort she exuded. She was not formable in size or in physical strength, but she was big in personality and something else... she was a tiny, little thing that made the people around her somehow better. And Howard would feel... better. Stronger in some sort of way (Paragon of Health).

"And you mate," Howard winked at Alan, "Watch my six, will ya?"

"Back to you," He replied and then, yes then turn to wave at George in particular. Howard, the only way Alan was going to notice you is if you started to carry around a cardboard cutout of George Henry. All the leather in the world was not going to change this. Howard move move ahead to F8.

The rise of Percival Grey's middle finger was not going to earn him any friends. It would earn an "Atta-boy" from their champion Howard. He was not one to ruin the boy with good-manners now. With a shake of his reigns, with lightning speed Percival would rush in front of Dealla using Rapid Defense and his chariot would lean over, threatening the spill the youth onto the checkered board. A human barrier in front of the girl, he would not stay there for long as he marched off to E6.

Maksim would rush in front of Irina using Rapid Defense to rush across the checkered board in front of the girl.

Mistress' Wrath

In a brutal exchange, the Queens would exchange Mistress' Wrath. It being one of the few offensive moves they could inflict on their opponents at the start of the match.

Pericles casts Cast Mistress' Wrath at White Queen Rosella (D1). Spell Spread to White King Rodion (E1) using Spell Spread.

The Queen would swerve out of the way of the attack, the billowy gown afforded her more movement than one would have believed. The dark ray would blast past the bell of her skirt and disperse harmlessly behind Rosella.

The King adjacent would not be so fortunate. Pericles had the ability to spread their attack to an adjacent enemy. A devastating skill to have on the chessboard. The searing wrath of the Queen would be felt, but not by Rodion. Oksana would perform the ultimate sacrifice and rush into the path of the attack, defending Rodion with her body. A dark mark that should have marred the Champion, how marked the formerly pretty girl's shoulder and the side of his face.

Rodion would be safe behind the girl. His Queen, undamaged alongside her King would raise her scepter in turn. A violent blast of light would shoot across the checkered board and attempt to overtake the dark queen.

Rosella cast Mistress' Wrath at Pericles.

Intercession

Serena casts Intercession on Dealla. A short prayer to the RollBot gods, Serena would bestow upon Dealla a peace, a strength a veritable, visible shield of gleaming light. The resplendent aura reminiscent of a dodecahedron that seemed to ensconce the teenage King wherever she went.

Using their Wisdom, they are able to shield a single target against an attack. The shielded target must be adjacent. They would protect the target for Wisdom x 10. This would take priority over any other attacks done. Remains on a target until it is exhausted. Can be maintained on more than one target. Does not stack.

Alan would pull his attention away from George somehow for a second so that he could cast his blessing on Pericles. A spell of protection from the 'adequate' book. Intercession would give this powerful piece even more frightening durability on the board.

Regal Aura

Dealla would raise her scepter and the dark stone would let off his violet wave of smoke, like a toxic miasma that would creep along the floor and cover the cells adjacent to the girl. Dealla has cast Regal Aura.

Scaling from Wisdom, for every 5 points in wisdom, the King exudes a regal aura on command. Any piece adjacent (the King is not adjacent to themselves) to the King gains a +1 (per 5 of wisdom) to all of their stats except stamina. This does not differentiate between friend and foe. Serves as their action for the round. This remains 'active' until the King decides to 'turn it off' which is a free action. Only turning on the Regal Aura costs an action.

Rodion would also become a bastion of support for his team as he also cast Regal Aura and a glittering cloud of smoke would dance along the ground. A stark contrast to the black King across from the boy. Come gather close, protect your king and know glory!

Did everyone survive? Well, yes. The Queens had exchanged blows and the Kings had taken their place further on the board. Their auras would bolster their nearest allies and hopefully provide them with a steadfast defense. while Hogwarts might have believed that this would be a quick game, the match had only just begun.

Howard's enthusiastic demeanor shifted to a cool and collected focus as everyone took their place. "Get ready! Any moment now!" The Dhampir called out like a commander to its troops. He had obviously never played wizard chess this way before, but if it was anything like board game, things were about to get real. With a flurry of activity both sides would begin to cast spells and shift their position on the life sized chess board. Auras shimmered and glowed as they fell upon their targets or exuded from individual bodies, but that was nothing compared to the dark spell that blasted forth from both Queen's scepters. Howard winced as Pericles took a hit. "Hold tight, Peri!" He called to his companion hoping he would be able to shoulder the blow. With some satisfaction the Ravenclaw's own spell would miss its first target, but with the skill of a duelist it would spread to one of the white Rook's that had jumped in to protect its King.

Both sides had fired shots. Both had taken a blow. The first round had come to a close, but the next would surely bring much more action. Howard called out the next moves...

Right before their first move, Bloom looked over at the stands to see who was supporting Hogwarts. She saw some familiar faces out in the stands. She thought she saw someone staring her way, but was not sure if it was at her or not. It was a slowly budding friendship of @George Henry. Bloom gave a small smile and waved at the smelly Hufflepuff. It was then she heard Howard begin to state their positions that she went back and focused on the game.

Once the positions were given, she felt the horse under her begin to shake. With one hand holding her weapon, she gripped the horse as hard as she could with her other hand, not wanting to fall off. It began to move accordingly to what Howard had stated. From being next to Howard, she was now two squares above him on the board.

Next to her was Percival. She looked at him and nodded, knowing that the game has officially started and they were going to chance for a win.

Their newfound powers were almost as shocking as the change in their attire. The dark blasts of mana which flew from Pericles' scepter were foreign to him, and while one was dodged by the enemy queen, the other struck a martyr Roof. His eyes widened when he saw the dark splotch staining the Koldovstoretz girl's skin like a wicked curse. It was off-putting, his own attempt at avoiding an attack belated by distraction. Peri winced, baring his teeth, clamping a hand over the injury. Captain Howard's reassurances bolstered him, however, and he straightened his stance. "I'm alright." He drew back the scepter with a cold leer across the board. "We've only just begun."

Maksim readied himself as the game kicked off. The champions were calling out their moves, and pieces began to move on the board. It was quite impressive watching as the White queen dodged such an oncoming attack, unfortunate that the backlash landed on the King, but Maksim smiled seeing how she was able to get in a good blow back at the enemy attackers.

When it came time for his move, he readied himself to defend against anything coming for Irina, fortunately nothing this round, but this was just the beginning. Breath in....Breath out... this was what Maksim longed for, the rush of war.
