The small bird

Suni had been hearing chirping for some time, and she wondered whatever could it be. Perhaps a bird nest has settled in, and the babies had hatched, making them try to get their mother's attention for some food. Whatever it was that caused the bird to make such loud noises intrigued her, so, when she finally got free time, she didn't waste any second to check out the whatever could be making that noise. What she wasn't expecting was to find a small bird laying helplessly on the ground, simply chirping as if the bird's life depended on it. Well, the last statement wasn't quite wrong, there wasn't signs of the mother nearby, and the bird seemed to be a newborn. The wing was bent in a weird way, to top it all off.
With worried eyes, Suni carefully cupped the bird in her hands, inspecting the condition of it. Although Suni was no expert in animals, she had learned quite a lot from her family, which had learned about them with their experiences on wildlife. She has also read some books about it, so her knowledge should be good enough to see if anything didn't look quite right. She found that the wing was broken, and that the bird would probably not make it if it wasn't at the very least feed soon. Suni wondered what she should do, helplessly looking around for a worm to try to feed the bird.

Karrie was busy chattering with her other friends in the Great Hall, when she suddenly noticed Suni, one of her friends whom she first met under a group of bright red trees in the autumn, accompanied by Crystal.
Karrie was quite curious and wanted to know the reason which made Suni go out in such a hurried way. Karrie excused herself from her friends and followed Suni out.

Suni stopped in the Campgrounds, bending herself down to pick up something in her cupped hands. Her eyes were filled with sympathy and was looking around anxiously.
Karrie thought of helping her out, after all, what could be the reason to make Suni look so much worried?
She made her way towards her and said, "Hey Suni! Do you remember me? I am Karrie."
She thought of first checking if Suni somehow remembered her. Karrie's eyes met that thing which Suni was carefully holding in her cupped hands.
It was an injured bird! It's wing were bended in a way which seemed to be really painful. It looked like broken, the feather covering it was also torn and a narrow stream of blood was dripping down.
She looked up at the trees present nearby, maybe the bird fell down from her nest and by chance it's wings got hurt by a twig or something?
"I think we need to take care of it, until it recovers. It seems to be a few weeks old, we must handle it gently." Karrie said, while examining the bird carefully with her eyes, "I have learnt many books about birds recently. We should feed it and carefully treat the wound first. After that, we can go to the library to find more about it's condition. By any chance, do you know anything else which would possibly help?"
Karrie looked at Suni, expecting to get a very satisfying answer, as usual.

"Karrie! Of course, I remember you! It's nice to see you! You see, I'm quite worried about the bird's condition as it seems like it hasn't eaten for a while, he was chirping loudly before so he was probably calling for help... The only person I can think to ask for help is Takagi! The professor of Care of Magical Creatures, but I'm not sure about the Veterinary being open" Suni looked down at the bird "I was hoping to find a worm or something, but perhaps we could go into the kitchen and ask for some food for the bird. As for the injury, I always have a medical kit on me"
Suni handed the bird carefully, taking out the med kid from her backpack, there were the essentials, some bandages, medical alcohol, etc. Unfortunately, since Suni didn't have a pet she didn't have anything for animal emergencies, which she might consider doing now. Suni then thought about the behaviors birds have, if the bird was so young, it must mean that the mother kicked hin out of the nest. It was cruel, but in nature, when things got though with the constant predators, an illness or maybe even with the first experience being a mother, the bird would simply throw them out. The other option was for the bird to have fallen off the nest, but she wasn't so sure about that. The situation was quite strange. Suni begun walking, explaining Karrie what she knew.
"Do you think the mother has pushed him off? It could happen, that would mean that the bird has an infection of some sorts, or that there were predators. The less negative option it's that the bird simply fell off, but it's still quite unfortunate, don't you think?”

Worm... As soon as she said the word worm, Karrie felt like vomitting. She has entomophobia, the fear/disgust towards insects. Karrie almost forgot that the birds eat worms and the fact that both Suni and she will be talking care of it.
Suni said that she always carries a medical kit and Karrie saw her taking it out of her bag, which made her feel relieved but she still wasn't able to come out of the shock and weakly smiled. She was taking deep breaths. This is the 10th time she is facing the attack, to be exact.

"It's great. But I don't know if it's okay to ask the professor about it, because we still haven't met him and we don't know anything about him. And for him, it will be a very small matter because he deals with magical creatures." Karrie said, her voice shaking constantly.
"I guess I need some air, please excuse me." She said, and leaned near a tree, her cheeks and nose has already gotten red. She tried to act normal, occasionally taking deep breaths.
This phobia shock of her takes almost half an hour to recover through. But seeing the poor injured bird, she thought it was more important than her first
"Let's continue walking, sorry for wasting the time."
Suni asked if the mother of that bird kicked it out because of some infection or predator threats. She also mentioned that falling from the tree seemed quite unreasonable.
"It's true. It's really rare seeing newly borns fall from the nest. It's usually well protected after hatching. I guess it can be predator threat more but if it's mother kicked it out...."
Karrie looked at that little bird with pitiful eyes. "I think we should still search for it's nest, maybe. If we possibly find out that it has some infection, we can take care of it ourselves, of course!"
Karrie's voice was terrible now. Her voice became thick and her head was slowly becoming dizzy. She still tried to hold herself firm, because she can't let alone Suni handle both of them. Suni was already doing a very kind and difficult job taking care of the bird and, Karrie wanted to help her rather than put more burdens on her.
She slowly walked with Suni, thinking about the various ways to treat the bird.

Karrie smiled, knowing that Suni was a really kind-hearted person and also worried about Karrie's health along with the bird. She gave her a water bottle and left the bird in her hands while giving her hand a squeeze of reassurance and Karrie somehow felt relaxed. But she can't be like that. She needs to help Suni and the bird first.
"Listen Suni, let's not worry about me, I will rather go with you to the kitchen and once start feeding this bird, I will go to the Hospital Wing-"
Suni went away, ignoring Karrie and somehow she felt like atlast she burdened Suni. Suni was doing all these for Karrie's well being but she wanted to be of some help too.
She drank some water and rested, while she saw the poor bird gently moaning on her palm. She needs to think of a way to help them. It's not like she's weak, but she needs to be strong for the sake of Suni and the little bird.
Karrie was feeling better now, slowly recovering. Thirty minutes passed so easily, thinking about Suni and the bird.
Karrie wasted no time and took out a piece of paper from her pocket and a muggle pen and wrote-
I am at the library trying to search more about the treatment of non-magical and fragile newborn birds. Hope to see you there too and I recovered really well thanks to you. Thanks for helping me back then < 3

Karrie placed the bottle on it so that it doesn't fly away because of the wind and left the letter under the tree, where she leaned on earlier. She held the bird carefully in her palms and made her way to the library. Who knows maybe, she could find something useful and be of some kind of help.
