What was she doing here? Not exactly a question she wanted to answer, considering how much both girls were clearly lying to each other about names, and maybe even more. Yet there was nothing to lie about by admittance of living at the park. There wasn't anything a child could do to Eris, no way for someone her own age to send her to an orphanage or wherever else they sent children of her strange predicament. Nonethless, perhaps trusting a strange American was not a good idea.

"I'm here because my mum let me be here...late at night," Eris said simply, moving backwards to sit on the bench again. The words sounded odd, but there weren't wrong. Her mum did let her be at the park at night, by kicking her out and giving her no rules to follow.

"Why are you talking a walk in the middle of the night?" Eris said carefully, unaware of the time, but understanding it was late. It had been months since she had last seen the small desktop computer her mum had guarded with her life, or the watches that her father had loved to flaunt, or a clock. There was nobody that offered a dirty girl their belongings, even ones as small as a watch.

Rubbing her hands together for the small warmth the friction gave, Eris suddenly stopped moving at the sound of voices. British voices. They were not the voices of other children, no, these were the voices of men. Grown men, muttering, hiccuping, laughing into the darkness of the park. For all her months of living at the Park, Eris had never been out in the open this late at night. Normally she was already under her safe spot--a little bridge towards the middle of the park, jacket wrapped around her and eyes closed.

This was not good. Eris, like most children, knew what stranger danger was. While children were not dangerous, adults were. Especially unknown adults. Hopefully the other girl was smart enough to know to run too. Suspicions forgotten, Eris looked at Amelia with wide eyes. "Move. Now. We have to go." Worry already directed at the men instead of Amelia, there was no time before the figures of three men approached the two girls.

Their eyes averted, away from Eris, quickly attaching on the form of the American, who was clad in nice clothing, wearing doc martens. The leader of the group, a balding man with a stick(>) in his hand, and pockets full of something or another, sneered at the two red heads.

"Money. I know you have it, give it." The two men flanking him also carried sticks (why were they carrying sticks?) and looked at the American and Eris with menacing smirks on their faces. All three were clad in leather jackets, an emblem of a snake placed right over the heart, while a crown floated over the snakes head. Eris paused her frantic panicking for a second, to stare at the emblem. Where had she seen that before? Then the man spoke again, and her thoughts were resigned to worry, once again.

"I won't ask twice. Both of you, money, now." The man finally motioned to Eris, who was sitting, very still, on the bench. From the sneer on his face, it was obvious he knew that she lacked any money and was just tormenting the little girl, waiting for her response.

But Eris didn't understand that. Looking at Amelia with wide eyes, Eris still sat still, unable to form a coherent sentence. What on earth were they going to do? Was there a way to punch out of this? Sizing up the three men, Eris waited for Amelia to do something before resorting to attacking men that were clearly three times her size.

"I'm here because my mum let me be here...late at night."
What kind of mother let their children run rampant at midnight? Well, actually, her own mom would, be that was totally beside the point. It wasn't safe to be wandering about, especially nowadays, with all that on the news... with all the sexual assault and harassment, the rape stories... really, why was she out here, again?
"Why are you talking a walk in the middle of the night?"
Ami paused, wondering what to say. How did you tell someone that your mom was sending you off to some crackpot school to harness your inner freak? Simple; you didn't. She opened her mouth to fudge a simple white lie (probably something along the lines of, I couldn't sleep) when she heard the sounds, the noises.

They were certainly started small, at first. Soft scurrying noises that could be credited to nocturnal critters exploring the night, a rustling of flora that could easily come from a slight breeze. However, as the sounds grew louder and louder and the noises came closer and closer, the rustling turned into dragging limping and the noises into slurred speech.

Slurred adult speech, if one were to be specific. Paling dramatically and glancing at Bella, Ami nodded in assent at the whispered words of, "Move. Now. We have to go." But of course, they were too late- the men had already come too near, and they'd spotted the two girls out in the open, like sitting ducks.

As Ami subconsciously knew they would, the men turned their gaze from Bella onto her, and she mentally cursed her mother's love of fine clothes. Personally, Ami preferred the down-to-earth clothes one would find in thrift shops, i.e. ripped clothing and worn t-shirts, but her mom preferred the high-quality, finer things in life. They compromised by buying trashy clothes from high-end brands, but no matter how much Ami would surf the internet, all of her clothes would still exuberate the higher-upper class vibe.

And now, Ami shivered as the men took in her clothes, from her beat-up Doc Martens to her torn Lou & Grey shirt, to her worn-through Adidas sweater... it was obvious that of the two girls, Ami was the one with money, and her family had money. This could mean either two things: one, the men stole Ami's very-much-present wallet and beat the two up; two, they kidnapped Ami and demanded ransom. After all, that was how the real world worked, right?
"Money. I know you have it, give it."
Money. That's all it came down to, really. Money. It's how the world functioned, what humanity ran on. Everyone's lives depended on a scrap of paper- how sad was that? Plus, what Ami had said earlier was in fact, true. She didn't have her wallet on her and thus had no money; although, she had $100 American dollars in her shoe, not that it mattered. They were in England now, and she needed to let go of the past, for once and for all. Might as well start now.

"We don't have money," Ami said coolly, crossing her arms. "Please leave." Truthfully, she didn't think it would work, but it certainly didn't hurt to try. As expected, the Menly Men™ grunted threateningly, hefting their sticks in their hands. Wait- not sticks, wands. They were carrying wands. Glancing nervously at Bella as the men approached and drew nearer, she hissed quickly, "God, I hope you know how to punch. See you on the other side, I guess."

The man in the middle, clearly the leader, acted as one and drew the first punch. It was almost laughably easy to dodge, grab his wrist, and twist his arm into a new shape when he was so drunken. "Please don't," Ami said pleasantly, somehow remaining calm throughout the whole thing. "I don't like it when people try to punch me." The man, his face twisted in an expression of excruciating pain, suddenly found a tooth knocked out as Ami quickly dropped his wrist and blew through his face with a well-placed punch.

No no no... not again... the skin surrounding the man's mouth was red, lobster-red, and Ami knew that if she reached out to touch it again, it would be hot and swollen. What would Bella think of her? The American freak? There wasn't much to continue wondering about, as the leader seemed to be getting back up on his feet. With a slight grimace, Ami lunged forward, suffering a hard punch to the arm that she didn't see coming, but ultimately managed to get her foot up his ass. With a howl, the man collapsed to his knees, and as he struggled to rise to his feet again, Ami's knife was out, the glinting blade in his face. Whimpering, the man glared at her reproachfully, surging up with an enraged roar. Only mildly taken aback, Ami kicked the man in the stomach and left him wheezing on the ground.

"One down, two to go..." she mumbled, and ran over to poor Bella, who seemed to be dealing with the other two men at once. They were going to get out of this predicament or die trying, it seemed. While the leader didn't seem to register that he was holding a wand, these other two certainly were, and were casting spells to the best of their drunken ability.

With a snarl, Ami launched herself at one of the men, hanging onto his neck and back, dangling about a foot off the ground. Kicking his back and butt, Ami threw an apologetic look at Bella. "This... these certainly aren't ideal meeting circumstances, are they?" she grunted, and noting the small struggle Bella was having with the man, she yelled, "Catch!" Riskily dropping one of her hands off the man's neck, she grabbed her knife, sheath and all, and threw it (rather unsafely) at Bella.

We may stumble and fall but shall rise again;
it should be enough if we did not run away from the battle.

Punching? She had never really punched anyone before, and the idea that her first time punching would be against the likes of grown men was laughable. Sure, she had punched her sister, but that was a thing that most children engaged in, when they got mad at their sibling. No, Eris had never punched somebody for real, nor had she even been in a fight that wasn't fake. If you were counting fights, discounting the small skirmishes that had taken place on the park, or the warfare games that children seemed to love spending hours playing, running around in the fields like banshees, there was an impressive track record of 0 fights to her person. All the better to start now, Eris told herself, ignoring the panicked beating of her frantic heart.

Against her better judgement, a sense of excitement echoed alongside her fear, dancing and twining the two emotions of fear and excitement together, until Eris couldn't tell what she felt anymore, horror melding into apprehension and excitement blending into a reckless bravery and high strung determination to defend the girl next to her--who, seemed perfectly capable of handling herself, now that Eris thought about it.

She was, by no means, a classy girl with fancy clothing, and this situation was extremely new to her. There was nothing Eris could do at the moment, head racing with thoughts. All she could do was nod her head at Amelia's words, heart and brain thumping at 100 miles per hour. They didn't have any money, but before anything could happen, the girl tacked onto the end of her speech, adding that she'd see Eris on the other side. But, nothing had happened yet? Furrowing her brow, praying that they wouldn't have to resort to violence, Eris nodded her head. To be honest, she didn't get the words Amelia had said, but understood enough of it to get the point. The other girl thought they were going to die at the hands of the men.

Eris would be dammed if she died at the tender age of 10, without doing anything with her life, and with that in mind, the lion-like ferocity of childhood coursed through her, an animalistic snarl ripping through her lips and resounding through the empty park. "I can punch, try to keep up." Eris blurted out, stating words that any hero in her footsteps would of stated. Putting her immense knowledge of books behind her actions and words, Eris's lips drew back into what could of been an intimidating smile, if it wasn't for the palpable aura of fear fighting back her aggressive stance, and her small statute that would make punching or fighting extremely hard to master.

Girls of 4'1 did not make fearful adversaries, but that was about to be tested. Calmly, Amelia dodged the first man's punch, and twisted his arm back in a shockingly simple gesture that had Eris's smile fading into an open O of shock. She shut her mouth quickly, admiration shining on her red face, before the last drudges of fear vanished away, replaced by a delightful sense of red hot anger and readiness to fight that coursed through her whole blood. The fight called to her, the flurry of punches coming from the girl sung to a part of her that Eris didn't know existed, and the feral part of her delighted in the challenge as two of the men ran up to her, causing Eris to turn away from Amelia, who could clearly hold her own.

Due to the way she turned away, Eris missed the display of magic, and after a second of hesitation, the girl launched herself into the fray. The men were, clearly, not expecting the small girl to fight back, and the first punch sailed flawlessly into the first man's stomach. While weak, the punch caught him off balance, enough so for Eris to swing a kick to his side. All things considered, the fight was going well, until the second man grabbed the small girl around the waist, tightening his grip around her arms, breathing into her ear with the putrid stench of drink and bile.

"What do you think you're doing little lamb?"

Staring at the black fabric of his jacket, and at the flashing logo of a snake and crown that stared back up at her, Eris felt her rage bubble over, face heating up, burning up. "I am not a lamb, I am a wolf." Whatever that meant, it did not matter, most likely something she had read in a book. Yet the words gave her comfort. Any other words died on the tip of her tongue, as sparks exploded out of her hands, hitting the man square in the jaw.

He let out a grunt, dropping Eris to her knees, as she stared up at him in shock. Had that been a trick of the light, or the magic her mother feared so much? Most likely the latter. Yet, the magic did not scare Eris, and her face broke out into an even larger smile, as the men looked at each other, silently coming to the conclusion that the two girls weren't worth fighting for a measly sum of a few dollars.

The man didn't seem to be done just yet, as he stepped forward. Before he could do anything, a knife was tossed into Eris's hands, and after a moment of staring uncertainly at the metal object, Eris waggled it around, before putting it down at her side, seeing the man's face drain of color.

"Little girls with knives? I think the F*** not."

They were only children, but yet, there was something about the two girls, even though neither of them was aware of the other's magic. The two men took off, leaving their fallen friends behind, as Eris turned to Bella, triumphant smile etched onto her face.

"Not idle meeting circumstances, but at least we won." She replied, feeling calm, even in the aftermath of her first official fight.

After Eris's impressive catch of the knife, it wasn't long before the girls would receive the men's forfeiting words. Waving their white flag of surrender, they departed, leaving the two redheads in the park alone. Panting slightly, Ami couldn't hold back the triumphant smile that bust forth upon the adults' departure. Success! Turning to Bella, she saw the same smile reflected back to her- it was honestly like looking into a  mirror, albeit a fun-sized one, considering the massive height difference between the two girls.
"Not ideal meeting circumstances, but at least we won."
Ami nodded sagely, studying the strange girl in front of her. The one who's mom let her stay out at night, the one who could punch and handle a knife as easily as one would brush their teeth and handle a fork. Tucking her hair behind her ears, she added, "Seriously, we totally destroyed them. I don't think their egos have ever taken such a beating before." And it was true, she was proud of herself. She'd put her self-defense skills to use, and it worked- she'd done it all correctly. She'd come out of it with only a bruise, and for a skinny eleven-year-old, that was pretty darn impressive.

"You did awesome, seriously," Ami said sincerely, and adding, "Do you want to keep the knife? I have another one at home." If those men were to come back with reinforcements, Bella would definitely need it, and Ami was confident she'd be able to use it wisely and with skill. She also had no real sentimental attachment with the blade, which was probably why she felt so okay with just giving it away to a girl she met in the park.

Extending a hand for Bella to shake, Ami finished off rather smoothly, she thought, by saying, "It was really a pleasure to meet you, Bella. Maybe I'll see you again in the future?" But deep in her heart of hearts, she knew that it probably wouldn't be possible, she probably wouldn't be able to find her way back to this park again, and who knew where Bella would be after tonight? With a final wave and a wistful smile, Ami waved her goodbye and walked back home.

Upon reaching the back alleyway that was next to the flat she was living in, she jumped to pull down the stairway, walking up in the one flight to the waiting window. Picking the lock on the outside, Ami returned to her room in silence, closing the window and dropping into bed. Maybe... maybe she'd try to fix things with her mom. Tomorrow.

They could of been friends, the two girls standing in the park. In that moment, it felt like friendship, but of course, when the future came around, their two paths would tie closely together, only to fall apart with the promise of burnt hair and the revenge of the lion pack. Their futures were intertwined, but the girls did not know, caught up in the adrenaline of the fight.

Watching the men run away, Eris's smile back at Amelia was large. Even so, a small part of her felt worry over the obvious crime she had just done, and the violence that had been committed. For her first fight, it had went so well, a fact that scared and excited Eris. How had it gone so well, and why did the violence sing to her soul, why did it feel so right? Something about the fight had excited her. She was sick and tired of cowering. She had hid from her mother and accepted the way her mother had pulled her away from her sister without hesitation, but in the wake of her first fight ever, Eris realized she could of done better.

The strands of red hair turned redder, if only for a moment, as if propelled by her anger to turn red hot. Not even a second later, the hair turned back to normal. The only way Amelia would be able to see the strange occurrence was if she was staring extremely closely at the twisted and tangled strands of hair, but almost at once, Eris's hands jumped to her head, rubbing at her forehead.

A horrible pain raged at her forehead, blistering hot, as hot as the strange drink her mother had given her just days before she had been kicked out. It might have been hot chocolate, but it was one of the things her mother was horrible at making. It tasted too warm, almost like the heat was tangible, and there was mint in the drink.

Her mother had made her drink it all, and Eris had obeyed, not to be rude. And yet, just days later, she found herself kicked out of the house, wondering if it had been worth it to drink the nasty drink in the first place. Black spots danced in her vision, but Eris plastered a smile onto her face, desperate to win the approval of the girl who could become a friend.

She looked old enough to be a fun playmate, not one of the children that tugged on her jacket and forced her to play their own games. Hands slowly moving to her sides, instead of her head, a smile forced it's self onto Eris's face. The smile was all gritted teeth, the pain in her head throbbing so hard that Eris could hardly focus on the words the other girl was saying.

"Yeah, we showed them. It was something right out of a book." Eris replied, swaying on her feet. The pain pounded even harder, before it was gone, as if a wave had hit and washed her back, than was gone for good.

Blinking rapidly, grateful for the lack of pain, Eris nodded her head rapidly at the offer to keep the knife. Holding up the metal object, Eris let out a real grin, not a grimace. "I would love to keep it!" Being a child living alone could be dangerous. Now she would have a way to defend herself from the perils of the night. Before Eris could say another word, the girl stated that she would have to go. It was sad in a sense, as Eris would of wanted to stay with the girl longer, but it was the middle of the night, and she seemed like the kind of person who had places to go.

The odds of seeing the other girl again were high, and Eris nodded her head again, the strange pain completely dismissed as a headache. She was to have a friend! This girl would be a great playmate in the future, and Eris couldn't wait to see her at the park again.

"See you again, Amelia." Eris called out as the girl slipped away, she turned away, walking towards the distant figure of a faraway bridge.
