Midday Mosey

As Christopher made his way through the bustling streets of London he really wondered what all the fuss was about. He'd been to Boston, New York, and Tokyo, this was nothing special. This just seemed more cramped, there was no room for anything. It was all so congested, he could only imagine what a nightmare it would be to actually live here. He and his mother had traveled by floo powder to the chimney of one of their distant cousins who lived in Soho. His mother wanted him to get a feel for British customs since he'd be spending most of the year here. He hadn't really planned on this but he'd been approached by Aaryan Shamsi about being a reservist for the Mahoukotoro Hexiwizard team. Truth be told it wasn't something he was terribly interested in but his mother encouraged him to sign up and make some connections.
They entered the rundown Leaky Cauldron to make their way into Diagon Alley, where he would get a chance to see what the wizarding world over here was like. Hopefully more impressive than this dump, he thought to himself as they made their way to the archway to enter Diagon Alley. He'd heard this was supposed to be a famous place, but it looked like a dump to him. Remodel it or something if it's such a big deal. Christopher didn't consider himself a snob, but in his mind there was quaint and then there were dumps. This was a dump.
They soon emerged into Diagon Alley. This was more like it, he thought. The shops were quaint and the alley itself was tight, but it was all very nice. He could see that real care and upkeep had gone into it. His mother gave him a few galleons and told him to walk around and meet her back at the Leaky Cauldron in an hour. As he meandered around he thought about everything in his life that had ultimately led him here. He'd been born in America, lived there for a few years until his father died. He didn't remember much of America though. He remembered the fear he felt after his father had died.
Fear was both a terrifying and powerful thing to Christopher. He had heard people talk about fear before, and how it held people back. He supposed that was true to the untrained observer. To Christopher fear was a powerful motivator. The more powerful someone's fears, the more power you could gain from conquering those fears. He supposed his long-term goal was to help people master their fears and empower themselves. Yes, he wanted to surround himself with like-minded people, who would then go out and help people conquer their own fears. But only those that were worthy. You had to want to conquer your fears, and you had to want to do it for yourself.
He had conquered his own fears. His greatest fear after his father died was being alone. Even for a moment. For the first few weeks after his father died, he'd refused to leave his mother's side. He was afraid that if he left his mother then she'd leave him forever as well. Eventually, he'd conquered his fear. One summer, right before they moved, he ran away from home into the woods behind their house. He stayed there for two whole days until at last his fear was gone and he felt safe in his solitude.
Of course, since he'd conquered his fear, that didn't mean he preferred to spend all of his time in solitude. The truth was that being by yourself with only your thoughts for company was really quite boring. Christopher didn't really consider himself a person who had friends. He had people that he spent time with, he might even enjoy their company, but they were just there. He supposed the closest thing he had to a friend was Hiro. He'd me Hiro the summer after they'd moved to Japan. He was of similar age to Christopher and they'd spent a lot of time together. In addition to his Japanese tutor, Hiro had helped him learn Japanese. They spent quite a bit of time together. Christopher could only hope that Hiro would also be on the team so there'd be at least someone he knew there.
