PROLOGUE WC:1086
December 12, 2122
On our beloved planet earth, there were two scientists named Destiny and Stina. They worked at Scientists corp, Trying to save the planet. There were things that were unimaginable, so horrible that it was hard to think about them. It was happening outside their lab right as they spoke. As a result of these things, the world would never be the same.
In their research, they found only one way to save the planet. The two spent months and months conducting more research. This research was popular among rich scientists, but every single one that had attempted to do this had given up or died in the process. This was time travel. They tested and failed, only attempting to travel back a few seconds in the past. As a result of this, we’ll always fail. At least one, if not all of the parts on the machine completely fired. This slowed the process extremely and discouraged both scientists.

The two girls were just about to give up but before they did, they agreed that they might be sleep deprived and just needed some more sleep. They both returned to their quarters and went to bed. Destiny, the first scientist could not sleep. The other scientist, Stina, fell asleep immediately. Since Destiny couldn’t sleep she decided to sit up and read more on time travel. Soon her eyes began to droop. She snapped back awake because she saw something. A little spot of white light. Something that could change their experiments forever.

Destiny crept to the light and stopped. She shakily reached her arm out and stuck her pointer finger out and slowly reached towards the white blob of mist. She continued and when her finger hit it, it disappeared. Destiny opened her mouth but nothing came out. She slowly turned and began to walk back to the bed. She climbed back in and pulled the covers up over herself. “It’s just a dream,” she muttered to herself. She closed her eyes and tried to fall asleep.

Suddenly, a voice began calling her name. “It is ok Destiny.” It said. It sounded strangely like her own voice. She pried her eyes open and saw it. It was herself. As a ghost. The ghost of herself smiled and floated over to her desk. It grabbed a pen and her scientific notebook. It set them down right next to her leg, all while saying nothing. The ghost floated back and began to speak.

“Destiny. I know what you are probably thinking. Why am I here? Well, I am here to help you. Help you save the earth.” As soon as it said that, Destiny was wide awake. She knew it! She grabbed the notebook, flipped to a clean page, wrote down the date, 12/12/3122. She also scrabbled down the time. 2:35 am.

Destiny took a deep breath, let it out, and said, “Ok. You may continue. I am ready.” The ghost began to explain the best and only way for time travel. It was risky. If a person from another time period remembered things and accidentally, or purposely told someone the world would sort of glitch, and would break. Destiny wrote that down. The ghost began explaining the exact size of the parts and the fuel they would need. The problem was that there was no way this could get you to come back.

“But Ghost, how am I supposed to return?” Destiny asked.

“That I cannot help you with. But there is one thing I can do for you.” It said.

“Great! What is it?” Destiny asked.

“I can give you the fuel to get there three times.” The ghost pulled out three glass cylinders and set them in a small box that Destiny had on her desk. “Now, it is time for me to go. I wish I could stay and watch you in your building, but I cannot. Goodbye.” And with that the ghost disappeared.

December 13, 3122
The next morning, Destiny woke to the feeling of a hard surface on her cheek. She popped her eyes open and blinked a few times, waking herself up. She had done it. She had found the solution. She got dressed and grabbed the notebook and fuel. She ran as fast as she could to the lab, praying that Stina wasn't already there. She ran over to the analyzer, and began finding the ingredients in the fuel. She wrote them down, they were so far off to what they had been testing with. Destiny immediately tested it and… it worked. She jumped with joy and ran to find Stina.

December 15, 3122
The past few days the two scientists were hard at work. They took three identical baby boys and erased their memories. They implanted thoughts in their mind that would soon develop into big ideas that would help save the world. The edited so each boy, Eil, Nicky and James had been part of their family all along. Eli was put with the Dieaz family, a family from the 1950’s located in Central Iowa, who were farmers. They had never gotten a son, but had always wanted one. Stina was going to fix their memories into believing that they had had one all along. The second boy, Nicky, with the Rameriez family, in the year 2022, in Los Angeles California. The Rameriez’s already had one son who looked similar to Nicky. Finally the third boy James would be sent to the Hillion family, in the year 2122. The Hilton family had no children and had never wanted any. They lived in Chicago.

Now, the tricky part was finding a way for the boys to travel back when they had saved the world. After lots of planning, the scientists decided on books. They created three large books infused with a strong magical power. The books would be arranged in each boy's room.

December 17, 3122
It was time to take the first boy Eli, to his home. Only Stina was going with him because she was the one to erase the memories. Destiny would be ready to come after her if something went horribly wrong. Otherwise, Destiny would be monitoring her closely as well. The scientists were careful not to let anyone find out who they were and if it did happen, Stina would just do a quick fix to their memory.

When Stina finally returned, it was time for When Stina finally returned, it was time for Nicky. They prepared everything and took it home. They repeated the process with James and erased their memories. All they can do now is wait.

Chapter 1- Nicky WC:658
September 12,2022

It was a normal day, as I rolled out of bed. I found some clean clothes, a gray hoodie and black pants, and threw them on and threw my mostly finished homework in my backpack. I would finish it later, if I found time. I grabbed my red Nike high tops and threw them on. I ran down the stairs, and found a plate of waffles on the table with a note from my mom. I sighed, knowing I wouldn’t have time. I grabbed the waffles and threw the apple in my backpack. I grabbed my skateboard, ran outside, and began skating to school.

Skating helped me focus and I enjoyed it. I started skating when I was about six, and my mom got a job. She got it for me to make me feel better about her working. At first it just made me mad, but then I taught myself to ride and eventually worked my way up to learning tricks.

When I got to school, I picked up my board and since I was early I went over to my locker and grabbed my textbooks that were literally bricks. I ran off to my first class, which was English. All we did was work on our vocabulary words and read a passage in our textbook. Next I had physical education. No one ever learned anything. After physical education, it was time for Science. I grabbed my notebook and followed the teacher's instructions. Then I had lunch, then math, then art.

After school, I rode my skateboard home. When I got there I quickly did my homework, then I went ahead and hopped on my Xbox. I played some games and decided to ride to the skatepark. I worked on some hard tricks then went home. When I got there my mom was home. I had dinner and listened to some music. Then I flopped down on my bed.

I sighed and stared at the weird crack in the ceiling. I sighed and closed my eyes. It wasn’t like there was much else to do, and I was bored of everything. Suddenly, I remembered something. I sprang off the bed and smiled. I plopped down on the floor and reached my arm under the bed. Where was it… it had to be here… then my hand hit the box. I grabbed it, climbed back up on my bed, and smiled. There. It. was. I lifted the lid and a cloud of dust exploded in my face. I didn’t actually remember what was in the box, because of how long ago it was. I pulled out the notebook on top, a kiddie one with spaceships on it. I smiled as I pulled open the cover.

I began to decipher the little kid's handwriting. It was readable, but not the best. I smiled and continued. These notebooks were basically my diaries when I was younger. They were actually pretty cool. I continued. Finally, I got to the last one. It was late. I unbound the leather cover and was surprised that a six year old was using a notebook like this I opened it up, and expected to see a page full of writing. But really there were two sentences scrabbled at the top.

Hey, Nicky, if that's still what you call yourself… anyways… I just wanted to check in. Do you still write? Or did you find something else? Do you still like predicting the future? Last question, do you even know who you are?

Wow. That hit me hard. I looked around my room and back down at the notebook. Wow. I was six. Six years old. I reread the words and… yep. I had really written that to my future self. Six years ago.I couldn’t just ignore my six year old self, I had to say something back. I grabbed a blue pen from off the mess of my desk and began to write.

Chapter 2- James
September 12, 2122 WC: 558

It was a normal Monday. I woke up at seven fifty, and got ready in less than ten minutes. I grabbed my backpack and all of my technology. My bag had a pack of chocolate, my laptop, tablet, and my phone. I ran downstairs and my mom greeted me.

“Good morning James! How did you sleep?”

“I slept well, and you?” I replied.

“I slept well. What would you like for breakfast?” She asked.

“I will have a doughnut, please.”

Mom prepared the doughnut, I quickly ate it and then I grabbed my backpack. I wandered over to the teleporter, and stepped in. I held down the button and clearly stated, “School.” I felt the light tingling, and arrived at school.

The teleporter was a new invention that my dad made. He finished it the year after I was born. He had been working on it his entire life. Once it was declared it worked, it was installed everywhere. It was literally a game changer. Cars basically went extinct, and the teleporter was the only transportation. I was glad that my dad had made the teleporter, but I kind of wanted to know what life was like with cars and less technology.

When I finally got to school, I went to my first class, History. I loved history. I wanted to learn about how life was like a long time ago. Like in the 1950’s. I didn’t just want to learn about it, I wanted to feel it. And experience it. Which wasn’t possible. I turned my attention back to the teacher who was droning on and on about how the teleporter was made. “Oh great, like I need another reminder…” I thought. Then, like something in my worst nightmare, the teacher turned to me. He began to open his mouth and my heart suddenly raced. “No no no no no…” I thought and looked down at my tablet which I was planning to take notes on.

“Mr. Hilton. I believe Jackson Hilton is your father, would you like to share your experience with the teleporter?” He asked me. I felt my face turn bright red. Not just red, bright red. I looked down at my tablet screen which was blank except for the date which I had written at the top.

“Umm, sure, I uhh… well, my dad invented it… and uhh I use it every day…” I stammered.

“Ok James, anything else you would like to add?” He asked me.

“Uhh… actually yes. When will we learn about historical events about 200 years ago?” I asked, hope filling my heart.

“Interesting question, we will work on that next year. But you can work on it yourself.” He replied. Then he went back to the board and continued droning on and on about the teleporter.

When history was over, It was time for study period, I hurried off to the study room, ready to continue my research. I wanted to learn as much as I could. Then I remembered that I had booked a session in the practice room. A rare thing. We were allowed to book the practice room, the closest thing any of us had to a school band. There just weren't enough people to have a successful band. I turned around and went back to the practice rooms.

Chapter 3- Eli
September 12,1950

I rolled over in bed and sighed. I knew it was time to get up, but I didn’t want to. I rolled over and faced the wall, as I drifted in and out of sleep. Just then I heard the creak of the heavy door, and a bit of light came in. I knew it was my mom, but I didn’t move. I continued taking slow breaths, in and out and in and out…

“Eli… I know you’re awake, it's time to get up.” She said,

“Just five more minutes,” I grumbled.

“”Elijah I already gave you five more minutes! Now get up!” She replied. She used my full name, and she never uses it when she is just casually talking to me. I grumbled and changed positions, leaning on my hand. Mom ripped the covers off of me. I rolled out of bed, and once I stood up, I grabbed the clothes that were on the end of my bed that mom had insisted I lay out the night before.

There were a lot of things mom insisted I do the night before. Prepare my backpack, do my homework, pack my lunch. I guess it kind of makes sense because without that there is now way I would make it to school on time. Honestly I wouldn’t even try to make it to school on time.

Once I was dressed I stumbled down the stairs and saw my mom at the stove cooking. I smelled the air and the smell of bacon filled my noise. I climbed down the rest of the stairs and walked over to my mom. There was a pile of bacon already on a plate so I just grabbed two slices, ignoring the loud hey I got from my mom. I quickly ate the bacon and moved on to a slice of toast.

When it was time to go, I grabbed my bag, and my mom and I both got in the car. I ignored every single question she tried to ask me. When we got there I just jumped out of the car and ran inside.
I didn't like school but it was better than working on the farm at home. I went straight to the classroom, and when I got there I went in and the smell of chalk hit my nose.

Class got started and we began working on our history projects. Mine was on World War Two, but what I really wanted to know was, if there would be a Third World War. Once I was finished I had time to study. I asked the teacher if I could visit the library and she said sure. I walked as quickly as I could to the library, even getting a few stares from teachers who probably thought about yelling at me for running.

I finally got there and began looking at the futuristic books. All I wanted to know was what it would be like in… say one hundred years. I had a few books on this sort of stuff at home, but none of the books ever told me what it would be like. I knew it wasn't possible.

I checked out three books on this and went back to the class just in time for math.

Chapter 4- Nicky
September 12, 2022

My younger self was right. I had no idea who I was. Writing was going to help me fix that. I rarely ever wrote anything, but this time motivation and inspiration filled me up. I wrote and wrote until my hand cramped and I couldn’t move it. I began to look over what I had written.

Dear younger Nicky,
I just wanted to answer your questions. First of all, thank you for checking in. No one really does that for me anymore, it's sort of nice, but more annoying. To be honest, I don’t like to write anymore. I still write, mainly because I have to for school. I guess you could say that I found something else, skateboarding. It really calms me down and I have learned so so many tricks on it. Do I still like to predict the future? Well, I am going to say no. I haven’t really thought about that in a really long time, but I would love to visit the future, maybe in one hundred years, 2122. I think it would be really cool to see what it is like. So addressing the last question, do I know who I am… no. No no no no no. I do not. I guess I’ll start with the facts. My name is Nicky Rameriez, I am twelve years old, and I like to skateboard. I also like to play video games. And hockey. Can’t forget hockey. I play it. I love it. Sometimes hockey is my motivation to get out of bed. I love it and there is no way I would ever quit. I attend Jaguar middle school, and there are about five thousand, three hundred kids there. I guess that's all for now, I will try to write some more another day.
Nicky out.

I sighed, closed my journal, put it back in the box with my old journals. I slid it under my bed. I glanced over at the clock, checking what time it was. “Crap.” I muttered to myself. I’ve got to go to sleep. I smiled as I pulled the blanket over my body. After a few minutes, I drifted off into a very peaceful sleep.

September 13, 2022
The next morning I rolled out of bed and scrambled down the stairs. I had hockey practice, so I went through my bag to make sure I had everything. When I was sure, I went to the back closet, and grabbed my roller blades. I laced up, grabbed my backpack and headed out the door. I skated to school, and when I got there, I had to un-tie my skates, then I went into school. It almost felt like yesterday's day was repeating itself, but with a new day. I followed the exact same schedule, wishing it would change.

When school was finally over, I laced my roller blades back up. Then I smiled and skated home. I began working on my math homework, which was just a huge list of boring algebraic equations. I knew how to do them, but they were so boring. I sat there trying to figure out what y was. Finally when I was done, my mom who had just gotten home from work, insisted on checking my answer. I knew some of the problems were wrong, but she took my laptop and began looking at the answers. I had gotten four of them wrong, which for some reason made my mom think I was failing math.

“Mom! I am not failing math!” I said loudly as I grabbed the laptop and began to see what I did wrong. “See on this one I added wrong,” I said, more calm than I was before. I pointed at one of the problems. “A stupid mistake. And an easy fix.” I said and began typing the correct answer. I quickly fixed the problem, and began fixing the others.

“See,” I said as I showed her the answers I thought were correct. She immediately began checking over them.

“Alright, alright,” She said. She handed the laptop back to me and I submitted the worksheet. Now I have to start my English narrative. The narrative was supposed to be about a dystopian world, so I basically created my own planet. Once I had written a few paragraphs about how all the planets got destroyed, and they took a huge ship of people up to a new planet, it was time for hockey.

Chapter 5- James
September 12, 2122

I smiled as I pulled out the vintage guitar that the school had. No one else knew about the guitar, and if they did, they showed zero interest in it. I hadn’t played in about a week, but that didn’t stop me. The practice room was sound proof, or at least I thought it was.

I plugged the bright red guitar into the old amp, and made sure the volume was low. Then I played a few notes to test how it sounded. I thought it sounded good, so I began working on this song idea I had. I pulled out my songwriting notebook, one that I had to keep hidden under my bed. If my parents found it… I would be in some deep trouble.

It’s not like my parents hated music, they just… severely disliked it. They both listened to it, but not very often. They also never dance to it, or anything at all. They would freak out if they found out that I was writing and practicing music.

I returned to writing my songs. I would test a few notes, then If they sounded good together, I would write them down. It was a slow process, and I made sure to set a timer for five minutes before the bell rang so I could have my stuff packed up and then sign up for another practice session. When the timer went off, I shut it off and began to put my guitar away. I unplugged it from the amp, powered it off, popped the guitar case open and slid it in, carefully shutting the lid. I latched the case closed and grabbed the case. I opened the door to the practice room as quietly as I could and slipped out. I scurried off to the storage area, finding a good spot for the guitar. Once it was settled into its place, I turned and went back to the hall of practice rooms. Before I went back to mine, I stopped at the bulletin board and scanned it, looking for the practice room sign ups. Only three practice rooms were used at a time, and people had different schedules, so that made it tricky.

When I finally found a time slot that worked for me, I signed the paper and hurried back to my room. I packed up my backpack because it was time to go. When the bell rang, I practically ran to my social studies class.

Social studies was an ok class for me. I did well in it, the teacher liked me, so today was going to be a breeze. We were in the middle of our history unit, so I assumed we were going to work on the next historical event, the war between Ukraine and Russia. I loved stuff in that time period. I pulled out my tablet and my stylus, then I opened a fresh note page. When the bell rang and the teacher walked in, he saw everyone with their tablets out and said

“I know many of you were expecting us to work on the war between Ukraine and Russia. But I have made a change of plans. We will be learning about coming to the United States, something we don’t really talk about.”

I wanted to jump up and start running around screaming yes, but I didn’t. I loved learning about this kind of stuff. We got started with why the pilgrims even wanted to come to America, for a new life. They just wanted religious freedom.

Almost all the religions had died out, but there were still people who believed. I personally didn’t. My parents didn’t so why should I? I know back a few hundred years ago, there were hundreds of Christians, all believing that there was a God who would save them. I honestly think it’s just a bunch of lies, but they thought otherwise.

My teacher began talking about how they struggled so hard when they got here. I zoned out and got lost in my thoughts. “Ugggg I actually thought I liked social studies but uhh there that goes,” I thought to myself. “I literally signed up to take a history class along with the required social studies.”

Finally when class was over, I basically ran out and went to my English class. I hated English but today, I honestly felt ok about it. All we were doing was working on our homophones, which kind of sucked but I put up with it. I stepped into the room and on the board was a page of notes for Two, To, and Too. “Oh great,” I mumbled as I went over to my seat. “I would give anything to travel back in time and live in the 1900s.” I thought.

Suddenly, something in my mind clicked. I could travel back in time! First I would have to make a time machine… “Wait. That’s impossible.” I thought, suddenly discouraged. But it never hurts to try.

When I got home from school, I searched up “Time travel attempts.” The screen loaded and there were lots of attempts. A movie even popped up! It was called Back To The Future. I immediately pulled up the trailer and watched it. It was old, and I was surprised that they hadn’t made a new one. Then I looked more into the movie and saw that it was made in 1985.

“YES! YES!” I yelled. I ran to the TV and pulled up Netflix. I selected my account, and went to the old movies section. From there, I hit search and searched for back to the future. Three movies popped up. The first, second, and third.

“There’s three? Even better!” I pushed play on to the first one and got to watching. If you haven’t seen Back To The Future, I highly recommend it. It is about a boy named Marty and his friend Doc. Doc has just invented time travel, and is teaching Marty about it. Then, Doc gets killed, so Marty travels back in time to save Doc. By the end of the movie I was happy. I could try Doc’s way of time travel!

After dinner, I began working out how I would find all the parts, and where I would build this… machine. After thinking about it for a while, I gave up. This would never happen. I went to bed, feeling disappointed and discouraged.

Chapter 6- Eil
September 12, 1950

Math class. One class I was actually good at. I was good with the facts, not imagining things, and being creative. Math was something I had all A’s and B’s in, because I was so good at it. The teacher started us with introducing a new thing we had seen before but never used. Variables. Whoever put letters in math, I hate them. Letters are literally my arch nemesis, they suck.
