Jack clicked his tongue in annoyance when his spell missed yet again, but it wasn't all bad news. Flash and Willow appeared to soon break free of the slug to which Jack gave a silent, mental cheer. Others actually began to hit the slug, too, and at last it seemed the tide of the battle was turning. The thing became frozen thanks to Percival Gray right after being set on fire by Piérre and suddenly things looked pretty dour for the creature.

Piérre wasn't done there, though. Soon he took up his wand again and launched a vicious attack of sunlight from his wand, bellowing at his target as he cast his spell while attempting to pin it to the ground. Jack winced, wondering if the Gryffindor was wise in getting that close, but then again he supposed Gryffindors weren't exactly known for their wisdom. He was showing off a great deal of bravery, however.

Realizing they were starting to gain the upper hand while he had it frozen, Percival called out to everyone to quickly give the slug everything they had. He then launched an 'Incendio' attack at their enemy and Jack decided to follow suit. "Incendio Duo," he cried, going with what Piérre had finally struck the thing with. Now that it was off Willow and anyone else, it seemed the perfect time to burn the slug to cinders.

While they were trying to char the little monster, though, they were undoubtably also unfreezing it which meant that it might have started to move again soon. Luckily, Galton stepped in to try to petrify the creature with a 'Petrificus Totalus' and Jack's hope that they would finish off the slug before it got to anyone else was instantly renewed.

Against what seemed like impossible odds, Percival Gray found some kind of inner peace which made his clutch spell land on the horrible monster just as Willow and Flash were able to rend her from its clutches. It was momentarily frozen, though similarly many of the others gathered around appeared just as frozen. Eve seemed preoccupied with Marshal and his inaction. The others were ready however, and started laying into the beast as it was finally vulnerable.

Gray would land another fire attack, and Piérre's cat would finally be able to get its own hits in. Though Flash was no fan of felines, he would be surprised at its tenacity to protect its owner. There certainly were all kinds of cats out there, but he was not about to waste his inner monologue thinking about them rather than how to maintain this advantage for as long as possible. Piérre looked to try to pin the creature down with his wand and a bright burst of sunlight, but he would realize too late that the heat from a wand could never compare to the heat of the sun, and it would be more of an irritation than a burn. If anything, the brightness of the light was it's more horrible feature, but luckily everyone had averted their eyes in time due the loud announcement of his intentions.

Just as the freezing spell seemed to be wearing off, Flash would once again attempt to use magic. Even though it always seemed to fail him when it was most important, there was nothing he could possibly do with his own strength that could compare to how useful Gray's spell had been. Though it was a simple spell from first year, Flash would be relying on levitation to prevent the creature from trying to inhabit one of his friends, or the brave allies that were kind enough to help the group against a fearsome foe.

"Wingardium Leviosa."

With concentration, and an aim helped by the fact that it was sitting still, it finally worked. The slug would be lifted from the ground in accordance with the tip of Flash's wand, and there it would stay as long as Flash kept it there. Hopefully nothing would go horribly wrong before then.

Fire, fire, knockback, petrifying charm... and then his yew wand would pierce through the slimy critter's body once the boy saw the coast was clear. Admittedly, the consequences of his actions were not as cool or as fruitful as the Britalian figured that they would be, as a wave of sudden and focused tranquillity filled him just long enough to pinpoint the perfect place to strike... but then again, he had done something, right? The stabbing certainly had to have done something to the nasty red critter. Heck, his action of pinning the thing down had likely assisted in letting Figaro landing his own hits on the abomination. "Bravo Figaro! Good Figaro!" He would praise his little silver bengal with extreme pride in his voice. "Bravo ragazzo! Good boy!"

No sooner had Figaro managed to land tooth and claw on the monster, than a levitation charm would cause the slug to suddenly be ripped from beneath Piérre's hold and into the air. The boy would made a grossed-out face up at it as it was petrified and suspended in the air, now able to get a nice, up-close look at the weird looking thingy... did this thing have any relationship to the rumors and gossip that he had heard in years past about alleged dark creatures that wandered the dungeons of the school? If so... was there any way to study it? What exactly did it do? What was it capable of?

As everyone else began to recover around him, the boy would quietly slip out of the mass and observe quietly from the edges of the crowd, silent green eyes watching and witnessing their conversations and reactions over this critter. Figaro began to groom himself, trying to clean off the (likely) red slime that was covering his teeth and claws, but with a firm hand, Piérre would stoop down and prevent his pet from potentially consuming the material. Putting together what few puzzle pieces he had... the boy didn't like what he could assume... he didn't like this school in general, as a matter of fact, and with the Spring Ball coming up... he didn't want anything too terrible to happen... at least, not yet.

Trouble would most assuredly find him, if it wanted to come for him at all.

"No Figgy... we don't know what this stuff is... for all we know, it's a toxic sluggy." He said quietly to his cat, observing his wand (was it also covered in slime?). Hm. He would have to wipe that off...

And maybe put.. the slime... somewhere... for later curiosity...

Hm... maybe his scarf...

Yes. That would be fine... for the time being until he could collect it into something else.

With quick movements, the boy would unwind the green and silver scarf quickly and then wipe his wand like he was drying a knife, collecting any potential slime from his wand into one location. He would not return the scarf to its position around his neck; that was crazy. Instead, he would tuck it into his satchel at his side for later observation.

With his yew wand now newly cleaned, the boy would turn it towards his kitten with a careful hand. "Now, don't get all finnicky, Figgy. Imma just clean you off. Scourgify!" Squiggling his wand in a general 'S' shape, Piérre would try to cleanse as much of the nastiness from his beloved familiar's fur as humanly possible. He didn't want his dearest one getting hurt because of a command that the boy had given to him recklessly. Piérre would have rather taken a curse on himself than have his closest companion being afflicted by such a thing under his care.

Piérre would continue to watch and listen, but would make no sound; as if he were already trying to slip away like a ghost back into shadow, same has he had for most of the first and part of this second semester...
